May be they are trying to review but were among the group, like me, that can't get one because of shipping delays.

Realistically, I don't think the "big" sites will. I mean I don't really think there is a very large audience behind the Envy 15, I remember when Engadget posted an article about the ivy bridge refresh and everyone was criticising it about ripping off the Macbook Pro... :(

What sucks is that they do post new reviews with any Apple product, for instance Engadget even reviewed the "new" macbook air when it was refreshed with the ivy bridge processors... talk ab out fair

Oh I see. That's what I did with my Sandy Bridge one. I purchased this one and returned the other to make it faster. Did they apply the credits you received towards the new purchase to match the price? So far I've gotten $142 back and I wouldn't be shocked if they didn't want to take that same amount off the new one plus the 33% coupon I used.

I think it's more likely that very few people take the time to write the post "hey, I got my computer! It works!"

When I got my Envy 14 (with Radiance, RIP) it came fine, and I didn't bother to post (a lot of people who had issues did, though).

I'm sorry but I almost started laughing when I heard that. That is ridiculous. At first I thought it was a sticker/tag with the part numbers stuck to the fan. I know a few guys with the sandy bridge envys had that issue. They just tracked down the sticker and pulled it out. However, later in the video it sounded more like metal on really fast metal. So I don't know. I hope the return process goes smoothly for you.

Agreed, absolutely a fan. If you feel up to it you can take the back Service cover off of it pretty easily ( see online manual) and inspect the fan area somewhat. You may get lucky and find a piece of paper/foam/debrie that you can pull off/out. If you got a good build, and don't want to wait for the whole return process it might be worth a peak. The fan is spinning up so it can't be a big piece of debrie as it takes almost nothing to keep one from initially spinning up. It could also be a bent fin, misaligned fan, or something else so don't get your hopes up too much but if it was mine I'd look at it before doing the whole RMA thing. I wouldn't do anything to void the warranty and it should of never happened but if it's as simple as pulling out a piece of whatever it beats the alternative. Good luck & here's a link to the manual. http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c03317211/c03317211.pdf

Thanks for the info. I did take the back panel off but didn't find any debris I could remove. The noise is so much louder in person than in the video. I don't know how the assembly line works, but I would assume at some point this would have been powered on during production, right? The noise instantly comes on and I can't believe they missed it.

Your probably right, most satisfied users wont post praise about their

products but after all they got what they paid for, nothing more.

you must agree that is not very encouraging if you read this thread.

I'll try to take the time to post when I get my new envy and is prefect.

For those seeking a way to change the colour (contrast, brightness, gamut, etc..) here are the instructions:

    Right click on your desktop.
Select Graphics Properties (near the bottom).
    Choose Advanced.
Then on the left in Enhancements you will find all the settings.

I know the i5 is 35 watt and the i7 is 45 watt but I don't know what that translates too. I would like good battery life, but if I can go i7 without sacrificing much I will.

oh hmm... i got that too for 3 years... hmm maybe when the new 4xxx come out, ill accidently drop it in a swimming pool LOL.

    anyway another update:

I really love this trackpad. yeah the button is kinda stiff but its become workable. the scrolling and multi touch gestures are smooth. obv not as smooth as mbp but still very pleasant to use. only down fall i have is the stupid line in the middle. whenever i hit it i think i have come to the end of the trackpad.... and selecting text is kind of a pain but im getting better at it. still i love this trackpad. idk why people hate. maybe its cause i am coming froma really crappy one or maybe its cause i tweaked the settings a bit to my own liking

This may seem like a noob question but what does the key on the bottom right of the keyboard stand for or do (btwn alt and ctrl).

Also, is there an easier way to go back on a browser with a single touch or keystroke?

I have not seen anybody (including myself) post about the Envy still having the red/orange issue. I know at least that mine doesn't.
Some others say that blues seem sort of faded, though I personally can't see that on mine - If it is there it is much more subtle than the red/orange thing ever was.

How "portable" are people finding the envys? I know you can't expect too much from a 15" laptop, but is it manageable or would it get to be a real hassle taking it to uni every day?

In notebookcheck's review for Envy 15-3040nr they say that the Envy's display is ultra-glossy and that it is horrible to use it outdoors? So, there is no option with matte display, right? :( I guess I will buy the Sony Vaio S15 ;)

My Envy arrived yesterday. 1 day before the estimated ship date and also a day before tracking said it would arrive. Just now getting to mess with it much since I had prior plans. Quick rundown so far:

-No external blemishes or dings whatsoever.
-Keyboard is much nicer than my 14 was.. night and day difference in feel and lighting
-Screen didn't need to be popped into place
-Screen is sharp and clear but blues are definately on the pastel looking side. Not sure how much it's off and how much it is due to my perception because the 14 was very saturated in comparison. I think it's a mix of the two.
-Bottom panel is a little loose on the left side. Didn't notice until i read a post just now and checked it.
-I rarely use the trackpad but was hoping it was better than the 14 for those times I do have to. It's soooooo much better lol. I cursed the one on the 14 everytime i had to use... total JUNK !!! The 15 is very good and not just by comparison. It's not as good as some Dell's or Toshiba's I've used (mostly the texture) and of course a Mac's is still a good bit better but I think it's nothing to complain about.
-DVD drive wouldn't eject at all. I had to take a smooth coin and press downward back and forth on the felt and flatten it some. It ejected 5 times in a row afterwards but stuck later on. Will trim it sometime today. It's disappointing but not enough to go through the wait of a new one.

Overall I have mixed feelings. A laptop that cost this much shouldn't have issues, especially something as simple as ejecting a DVD. Actually a laptop at any price bought new shouldn't. The jury is still out on the screen. Going to compare it to some other displays and look at adjusting the color.

Thanks to everyone else for sharing info on here. Always much appreciated.

I don't think the display is glossy enough, personally. HP uses an acrylic panel over the screen, not glass. Acrylic is not nearly as glossy as glass. So it's technically classified as a "glossy" display, but it is not nearly as glossy as say, a MBP or the ENVY 14 Spectre; both use gorilla glass.

Someone asked about portability many posts back. I think it's a little too subjective in my opinion but here's mine. An Ultrabook would have been much nicer but too underpowered for me. I can only compare to the E14 I was using previous. Carrying the 15 in the same bag so I'll never notice the difference. I keep the machine on the coffee table sitting on the same Logitech n315 lapdesk. I reach and get it with one arm... no difference in heft really. The only time I notice the machine is any bigger is because it hangs over the left side of the lapdesk by half inch or so whereas the 14 fit perfect. The 15 feels thinner than the 14 which it is, but it feels less "plump" by more than the real difference due to the flatter and smoother palmrest. I'm sure if you are coming from a 13.3" machine or a MacBook Pro the E15 is going to feel pretty large. For my use an E17 would be way too big. For others I'm sure it's perfect. All a matter of preference of course...

I remember someone (Pakii I think) was attempting to overclock this thing and was unsuccessful. Do you guys think its will be possible in the future? Also how's the graphics switching? I know AMD has problems with this. I hope a manual switching software solution will be released because it's a lot better IMO.

So I went ahead and purchased an Envy 15 last night given that the Dell came out at about $400 more. This will be my 3rd try...the first was from HP and the other from Costco back in January but both went back because of Orangegate. As for the emerging Bluegate, has anyone with this problem tried the tuning utility that they released earlier this year?

Just got my ENVY, ordered it almost a month ago...
-The screen is pretty nice, but my bezel was not properly attached. I fixed it with my thumbnail pretty easily.
-The laptop is almost as big as my Sony VAIO Fw-490 from 2009 (16.3"), kind of disappointing.
-There is beats audio branding everywhere, which feels kind of cheezy as well.
    -Aluminum body feels very nice.
    -Bloatware is frustrating.

I'm seriously considering that Vizio now...

The tuning utility won't work with any other panel. In fact it won't install if you don't have the orangegate screen and even if it did I think user's reported that it's just a preset for gamma, contrast and brightness.

I started the bluegate thread, and the problem is nowhere near as pronounced as orangegate. I ordered a new laptop and am returning mine so hopefully the issue will be solved because there are many that have no issue with their screen.

Is anybody having issues using the 750gb drive that came with HP envy as a usb external drive? It keeps disconnecting, reconnecting on my envy. However, when I plug in that same drive to my other pcs, no problems whatsoever. Also, different usb flash drives, and external hdds have no problem on the envy.
