so far i have been able to match the 650m. but this again is with no driver support.
as for the battery life question, im usually doing more than one thing at a time while web browsing.
with fb desktop messanger open, around 5 tabs in chrome, and downloading large files, at 30% brightness (40% is mroe than enough but i like to keep it less. Full brightness actually hurts my eyes even in bright lights LOL. i only use ful brights when gaming/movies.) and a mix of music, is around 4-5 hrs the battery life info is constantly fluctuation but i think u should be able to get a good 5 hrs.
-
Thanks. That makes me very happy. I was concerned battery life would be significantly less than the xps 15. It's going to come down to the screen....
-
i would be willing to bet the envy as a better screen
-
Hey can you Envy folks answer a few quick questions for me? I know I'm being lazy, but seriously, I promise I tried to Google (didn't find much) and I mean this is a massive thread to look through...
1) Is it easy to perform an SSD swap into this laptop (also is it SATA III 6gbs)?
2) Is it easy to upgrade the RAM in this laptop?
3) Does anyone make an "optibay" like enclosure to swap an additional hard drive into this laptop's optical drive area?
4) Is there any way to remove the red ring around the sunken keyboard area?
Thanks in advance -
1-3) yes, 4) no
why would u wanna remove the red ring?
-
I just find the red ring visually a bit off putting. Sorry! haha. It's kind of like taking a brand new car and then slapping a bright red bumper sticker on it. Guess I just prefer cleanliness. I was holding out for the XPS 15 (and I still prefer the looks to the Envy) but the prices are a joke and the next best laptop I can find seems to be the Envy.
Can you point me to the vendor of the optical bay HD enclosure?
Are there any online guides to for the SSD/RAM upgrades?
Also, the trackpad...is it really that bad? Bah...I'll be using a mouse anyway. -
I'm trying to start a live-chat with HP about my return but when I hit "start chat" it just takes me to a shopping page... is there something I'm missing?
-
From my experience live chat agents are complete idiot I would call em >.<
-
the upgrades are all around this thread and the 3xxx owners thread. i really dont got time to look for it but its there. and i love the trackpad idk why epople hate it
-
Actually yes, I missed it to the first time as I was on my IPAD. You have to scroll way down past all the shopping page and a little chat window will be there.
-
I would go as far as saying voice calls are not much if at all better. Not impressed with the lot of them.
-
Have anyone noticed that the enter key is extremely sensitive? Or is it just mine?
-
I'm really interested in the HP Envy 15 and both the Sony Vaio S 15. Any reason you guys picked the Envy over the Vaio. On the HP store the envy 15 with i5, hybrid drive, 8GB ram, and 1080p screen comes in at just under $1300USD (with a coupon and tax included). However a similarly speced sony (albeit with a weaker 1GB graphics card) is only $1200 including a two year warranty. I also get a free PS3 which I can sell to bring my grand total under a $1000. The sony is lighter and thinner, but it doesnt have the "premium feeling" that the envy has, it also has trouble with displaying the color orange. I'd rather go for the Envy, but is it too big and bulky? Also are there any new coupons coming out that will make further reduce the price?
-
Most or at least a lot of us bought when there was a 33% coupon code. Also mrebates gave another 7% at the time, now 3%. The current code I believe expires sat or Sunday. Good chance there will be a 30% off after that. HP CTO has 2 year warranty. Cooling on Envy great. What was the GPU on the sony, Comparable? No more orange screen. I'm sure others will chime in here.
-
the gpu on the sony is like half as powerful as the envy. my friend is going for the sony because he wants ligther weight and he doesnt game but he wanted 1080p screen. i went with envy cause its more powerful and i game and it looks nicer and i got a really good deal. around 1.3k for the laptop in my sig
-------------
also for people who would like to know, im getting 25.6 avg fps on the heaven v3.0 benchmark with the same settings used on notebook check. that puts me above the highest 640m and right under the average for the 650m. However, most of the 650m's have to auto OC feature so i think that might be helping them. lemme start Ocing again -
Hp has a free xbox deal as well so you know. I chose the envy because of the look, feel, nice addons like the volume wheel, and the gpu since im a moderate gamer. I first choose the dv6 because of the 650m, but after some heating problems i returned it and got this envy for its cooling system which was reported to be very good. It really comes done to personal preference and which hardware is most important to you. If you dont game then id recommend going to a store and seeing them in person. Then choose the won you like best as long as the price is about the same.
-
Can one of the owners answer a question for me? Can you download drivers for the graphics card straight from AMD or do you have to use the HP provided drivers?
-
Not an owner yet but im pretty sure you can use amd drivers, including the beta ones.
-
i think u gotta use hp drivers but u can install the amd ones over it. however, i cant get it to work lol. and i dont wanna mess with my laptop so if someone could uninstall hp drivers and install the amd ones i would be grateful
anyway i was able to push it to 663/1065 and its pretty stable. -
If you use AMD( or others) drivers (assuming they will install) you have the possibility of losing the switchable graphics function... which seems to be implemented by HP. Non-HP drivers can be used, but make sure you can roll back if you get into trouble...
-
Is there a comprehensive guide to getting a good deal on an HP somewhere in the forum?
-
I wish there wasn't blatant beats branding all over this laptop. I can see it 3-4 times sitting in front of it depending if I'm changing the volume or not.
-
soo i finally got around to making the review video for my envy that u guys were asking for... ill upload it in a bit
-
Look forward to it, thanks man. Any screen comparison shots?
-
yeah i put some in there. I think i got everything besides how beautiful the backlit keyboard is at full brightness haha 30% saved. stupid 1080p makes such big files -_-
-
Does the review show a side by side with an Envy 14 Radiance, by chance?
-
Silver sharpie marker? Intel inside sticker? Probably in the branding deal with beats that they must plaster it everywhere.
-
Not really, it is spread throughout the forum but I will recap.
% off coupons usually get you the most off on the Envy line no matter what.
HP will not let you stack or use multiple coupon codes simultaneously.
% off coupon is better than getting the free Xbox due to what the coupon gives you in savings compared to cost of Xbox.
HP is not bound too but has been for months now rotating codes, most common are $400 off, $450 off, 30% off, 33% off, occasionally 35% off.
Coupon codes last between 5 and 11 days usually and can be found by google.
If you order using a mrrebates or other site you will eventually get a % off back check. Mrrebates does 3-7% depending on time.
If you have an AOPEN American Express account AMEX will credit you an additional 11% the month following the bill you paid.
Other credit card companies also offer cash back (see your card for details)
AMEX and some other credit cards add a free extra year warranty to either the stock warranty or an extended service plan if you buy one.
% off coupon codes do not reduce the price of an extended service plan.
2 day shipping from what I read on the forum may save you 2 days at best.
Anyone buying a new pc, HP or otherwise, can sign up to get a copy of Windows 8 Pro for $15 when it comes out.
I think that sums it up but if I missed something I welcome other users input. -
nope its next to my crappy toshiba and desktop in my sig tho. This is my first video review dont be too harsh
HP Envy 15 With Ivy Bridge + 7750m (June 2012) - YouTube
enjoy!
like and comment please haha -
Pretty good. Don't forget to change the battery on your smoke detector since your over clockin.. LOL. .. I think I hear it beepin. On a serious note, if you leave a disk in to optical drive does it still make that sound every time?
-
lol yeah my smoke detector likes to beep idk why -_-. and for that im not sure lol... ill check in a bit
-
What type of FPS boost did you get with that o/c?
-
Hi mate, I suggest you wait for next week, where there will undoubtedly have a much better coupon because of July the 4th. I suggest you visit this site, since it posts the HP coupon updates. I think I'm gonna jump on board the Envy ship as well next week...

-
about 4 fps (around 20%) in ungine and around a 200 pnt score boost in 3dmark11 i dont really got games to check it out in besides tf2

from what u guys saw in my video, would u reccomend me exchanging it? do ur guys notebooks make that dvddrive nose? -
I'm having second thoughts about my exchange since mine is near perfect minus the screen - perhaps I should have done a repair instead since byunnbi notes that they're pretty quick about it. I'm going to contact them again today and try to get a supervisor to that the URL for the thread I started so they can make sure I don't end up with issues. I'll let them know I'm going to keep returning until I get a satisfactory unit.
I'll check the DVD drive when I get home. I know I've had laptops do that in the past, but I haven't payed attention with the Envy. -
Hey guys, I don't want to claim a total victory just yet, but we may haev a winner here! I only had about 45mins to play with it since I had to go back to work, but here is what I've tested/noticed so far:
- I inserted/ejected a DVD about 10-15 times, letting it stop spinning too, and have had no issue with the drive.
- screen came perfectly aligned so I didn't have to pop anything back in
- the colors looks great. To be fair I am comparing it to my 5 year old HP laptop, whose screen has slowly been decreasing in brightness over the past few months. The colors aren't 100% identical, but they look pretty damn red and blue to me.
- I ran CPU-Z, and veirfied that I got the CPU and RAM that I ordered (3610 and 16GB of 1600Mhz RAM)
- no loose covers on the bottom
- its not 100% flush between the middle and bottom parts, but thats just on the right corner, and its absurdly slight, like a fraction of a millimeter
I still need to verify the WiDi adapter was installed since I didn't see it in my device manager, but then again, I'm not sure how its supposed to show up there.
@Pakii: I did notivce the 2-3 second DVD drive spin when I first booted it, but I didn't here it on a restart. I'll try from sleep and a cold boot later tonight.
Here's a question for you guys: I've read all about the minimal restore, but I just want to see what experience people here have had with these new ones in terms of driver reinstall. I know to save the SWsetup folder, but I'm curious what people's experience has been with it.
Thanks! -
Hey ya'll. I just ordered an Envy 15 with the 1920x1080 display. I also opted for the 3610QM.
So far, I've had the DV6t-7000 but returned it. I was not satisfied with it and ended up purchasing a Lenovo Y580. I did a few comparisons between the Y580 and DV6 on YouTube.
I'll be comparing the Y580 and Envy 15 once it arrives! So far, the Y580 trumped the DV6 in screen quality. Colors were rich but then again, it's just a matte vs gloss argument. Both had their perks. Sound was fuller and richer with the Lenovo.
Let's see how the the Envy and Lenovo fair against eachother! (nerdgasm)
-
Does the new Envy 15 have Intel and other stickers on the palm rest of the laptop? Also, for anyone who ordered the wireless display support, is this just extra software?
-
AOPEN? I have an American Express, and I can see a bunch of models on shopAmex but one of the sellers it's listed from is the Home Depot so I'm nto sure this is the same thing...
-
stupid amd needs to release official drivers -__-
-
There are 2 stickers one for intel and I cannot remember the other one. I pulled them off after I opened it up. They are easy to get off, I used my fingernails.
I didn't order wireless display support. -
Is the 400 dollar coupon the best around, or do you guys think that a new one for more will come out soon? I'm in the US btw.
-
Any takers? Heading home soon and I would like some of your thoughts before I start this.
-
i recommend u do it, back up the drivers folder just in case but when i did it, it installs all of the HP software but it leaves out like norton and other thirdparty stuff. so its basically clean windows+ hp software+drivers. I dont like norton so i was fine with it gone same with office
-
-
Excellent! Thanks dude. An update to your earlier question. The DVD drive did make the spinning sound when I woke it, but it was for about a second. I really don't see it as an issue.PaKii94 said: ↑i recommend u do it, back up the drivers folder just in case but when i did it, it installs all of the HP software but it leaves out like norton and other thirdparty stuff. so its basically clean windows+ hp software+drivers. And one more quick question on the recovery disks. How do I actually create them? I see several ways to do it, but they seem similar, so I'm not sure which is the correct one. EDIT: Searched the start menu and found the official HP program for this. Was pretty well hidden... -

Yeah, microsoft have really stepped it up with the newly announced Microsoft Surface, SmartGlass, and Windows phone 8 and ofc Windows 8, I think they have allowed computers FROM WINDOWS XP to be able to upgrade to Windows 8... an the upgrade is just another bonus for people to buy new PCs like us. I own an iPhone 4S and iPad 2, but I think after Apple deliberate cripple them to force ppl to buy new products, I will go to microsoft
Sorry nerdgasm over

I ordered my Envy 15 on 6/3 (just after midnight, so technically 6/4), with an estimated ship date of 6/14. That was delayed until 6/27. Now I just got an email saying it is delayed until 7/6 (after being assured by HP customer care that it would ship tomorrow). I'm trying to figure out what about my config is taking so freaking long to build. Has anyone ordered and received a config like mine:

I ordered on 6-15 and got mine 6-26 with an estimated 6-27 ship date. My config is pretty much like yours except the cpu. I'm guessing the high end i7 you ordered is the hold up. Maybe someone else that has ordered the same cpu can chime in.
Out of curiosity I ran 3DMark06 since I hadn't noticed it. 12693 is my result.
Which version of Afterburner did you use PaKii94? The Unlockunofficialoverclock line wasn't in the config file of the one i installed. Would you care to share instructions? I'd like to see where my card gives up.
Thanks
