    Hey guys,

Just got my CTO Envy 15 delivered last night. Everything seems fine so far except the "o" key on by keyboard.

Kind of hard to explain the issue, but it feels a little off balanced. As in when I press it, the right side travels down much more than the left side and sometimes I have to make sure that I press it on the left side to make the press register.

Anyone else had this problem before?

Several people have done it. It appears to use the same standard 9.5mm HDD caddy that the Envy 14 did. You can find it easily on eBay or for much higher on newmodeus. I purchased a newmodeus before and it's great but I may try eBay this time.

Sounds like the disc was scraping when you put pressure against it. Hope your replacement comes in flawless - I'm waiting for mine still. No upgrades, but if I have to do a third replacement then maybe I'll ask for a hybrid / coupon.

Sorry for the constant question stream, but I was wondering if you can get shells for this like you can for MBPros (and keyboard covers). thanks.

Thanks, that didn't show me the ram speed for some reason though, although it got me all the keys which I needed as I'm probably still going to do a bare bones install.

I used the crucial scan on crucial.com, that scan seems highly innacurate as it also said I had 4 ram slots... I'm about to shut it down and check visually just for fun. Whoever asked for a photo, I'll probably only be able to take a crappy 3MP phone pic so it might not be too good. Oh and you can search in the windows search bar for "hp support assistant" go to troubleshoot and then general specifications for some info. It shows as 1600mhz in there and also with cpu z (2gb hynix, 4gb samsung) And if I remember correctly pakii, you were wondering about disconnecting the battery right, If you unscrew the second panel you can slide it back in without the screws and it still feels pretty sturdy and doesn't slide about, of course doing something like that would be at your own discretion...I haven't put my screws back in yet but it's only been like what thirty minutes? lol

    Alright, got the pictures...

Perhaps this is a stupid question... but how do you know if you're running on the AMD GPU or the Intel Graphics? In Catalyst, I set it to automatically switch, but for some reason I feel like it isn't. As in, I felt lag on minecraft at full settings. That probably shouldn't happen. How do I know if it's running? And is there a way to manually turn it on/off?

I have a Sandy Bridge Envy 15, and I assume the new envy has the same Office version as the last one, which is Office Starter 2010. It includes Word and Excel, with some reduced functionality but all the basic features, and apparently some advertising of some kind. See What is Office Starter 2010? - Starter - Office.com.

I actually deleted it thinking it was a trial version, and I regret it now but the only way to reinstall it (apparently) is a full system restore, which I am too lazy to go through.

Thanks for the response. I nuked it but then I jacked around with the machine just to " get the feel" of it. Now I just nuked the OS and doing a reload. I have office 2010 but if I didn't have to burn a license I wasn't going to. Again, thanks for the response.

Hi guys I have a quick question before order my envy 15. With the option 256gb SSD, will it run SATA III or just SATA II? Do I have to buy SSD and replace myself to get SATA III speed?

If anyone ordered envy 15 with 256gb ssd option before, please let me know.

    Thank you.

Is there a way to keep the Adobe Photoshop Elements & Adobe Premiere Elements bundled with the new HP Envy Laptops if i follow the The HP Laptop Out-Of-The-Box Guide 2.0 for Windows 7? I know there's a way to get the activation numbers with some programs but im not sure
Sorry if this has been answered before.

I ordered the same configuration as far as ram goes ( got the same brands of memory as you samsumg and hynix) and i see 1600mhz on the hp support assistant also, installed CPU-Z and i see 800MHz for each slot is this where the 1600MHz comes from ? is this correct or should i call HP?
Sorry for the noob question i'd like to know before i proceed with the clean install.

:) Thanks Larsinii for the pics :)

I'm not sure what you are asking, but if it is -- can you somehow retrieve the key codes from the Adobe software, then the above will do that.

    Thanks for the replies mraufait
I'm just trying to re install the adobe software mentioned above, i was able to retrieve the codes with the program suggested above also i guess my question was if that's all i needed to re install those after a clean install of windows, and I'm wondering if the programs are located in the SWSetup folder or maybe i'll just have to download them from Adobe and just input the activation codes.

So opened up my 3rd Envy last night, the first two having been Sandy Bridge versions back in January that I sent back because of the orange screen. At least on my machine, Orangegate lives on--reds definitely are more orange compared to both my Dell 1640 w/RGBLED (a fantastic TN screen) and a calibrated Dell U2410 monitor (an IPS screen). If you didn't like the reds on the last machine, you likely won't like them here either.

Maybe I'll order one of the new Dells to do a side by side compare.

Can you post what the hardware ID is on the Envy's screen? The new ones, where the red is far less orange (It is still slightly orange, but only if you are looking for it and compare it side-by-side with a color accurate screen), have a hardware ID of LGD037E.

And I'm pretty sure the new XPS's do not have the fantastic RGBLED's that last gen XPS's did - they have what might be the same screen as the XPSz's had.

I would say yes because of these two reasons.
1, It future-proofs your Laptop for the next couple of years. You never know when you may need it.
    2. It's only $50 plus it's the 8gb 1600 version. plus with any coupon it becomes cheaper...

Depends on your need, skill, and wallet. Based on what you indicate 6GB will work for you. If you order the 6GB option it will ship with a 4GB stick & a 2 GB stick. If you found you needed more you can order a 4GB Corsair Vengeance 1600 stick for $25 shipped and replace the 2GB stick that's in the machine. Then if you can use that extra 2GB stick in a different laptop your really ahead. Even if you can't it was only $25. Or you could order a 8GB stick For $57, again swap it with the 2GB stick & have 12GB in the machine with 2 left over. Lastly you could order two 4GB sticks for $55 and take the all the original RAM out and put it in the wife's/ girlfriends/brothers/ parents laptop. Lot's of choices & there is no right or wrong answer. The above post says to do it, I say do it yourself ( takes 10-15 min tops) as HP in my opinion just charges way to much. The above post is correct if there is a % of coupon it lessens the hit for the upgrade, but if your using a $450 only coupon it won't lessen the hit as you get $450 off if you upgrade or not.

Anybody try out the new 12.7 Beta Catalyst drivers. According to the AMD blog, it has some significant improvements for some games.

I'm thinking of getting a cooling mat for my Envy. I'm not sure if I need a powered mat, based on the fact that the temperatures are pretty fine. If it is powered, I would rather it be quiet than extremely powerful.

    Does anybody have any recommendations?

    [EDIT]
And on the topic of the AMD beta drivers: will switchable graphics still work fine after the installation, and if they do, is there some sort of guide to installing the beta drivers without losing switchable graphics?

    Yes.
    Because it's really that bad.
Yeah it's the full unlocked version for two years, at which point you'll need to buy it again.
Nope, last I saw it had worse detection rates than MSE and it will try to scare you into buying it again. Also it's really that bad.
Yes! MSE is wonderful and it's the only antivirus we install at my tech support job.

Has anyone else noticed the proximity sensor not working? So I'm just supposed to walk away and it turns off the backlit keyboard, right? The driver is installed properly.

EDIT: Nevermind. You have to go to the sensor's software and change the "delay" setting to ten seconds.

avast! Home Free has NEVER given me a problem with W7.
    http://www.avast.com/en-ca/free-antivirus-download
It now has a unique feature, Remote Assistance, you can get help from a friend, via invitation code (same as any remote assistance), to help you cleaning your PC of Malware.
This connection GOES THROUGH THEIR SECURE FILTER SERVER, so you won't get infected when assisting a friend with malware cleanup, or just helping in general.

NORTON is famous for leaving remnants behind in your PC that will cause conflicts with your new AV program. You REALLY SHOULD USE THE UNINSTALLER:
    https://www-secure.symantec.com/nor...&version=1&pvid=f-home&entsrc=redirect_pubweb
This goes for any AV or FireWall as well, Zone Alarm gave me the most grief (ick).

Singular Labs Ultimate List Of Uninstallers:
    http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/
Software writers, instead of creating better programs – often have made an uninstall tool or cleanup tool to help you do a proper job. The problem is that these specific tools are usually not readily found on the websites of these vendors.

MSE is OK as an out of the box AV solution to get you on the Net, and searching, but it doesn't have a lot of features others have....IMHO

There seems to be nothing wrong with the graphics switching; the only game I have seen that has a problem, Shogun 2 Total War, has been reported to have that problem with Nvidia Optimus as well, and is a problem of the game not recognizing that the discrete card is been used, not the graphics drivers failing to switch cards for the game.

I made a post on HP's support forums whether we can expect a bios update enabling us to switch to fixed graphics mode, which fixes the problem for Shogun 2, but I have yet to get a reply. I may try emailing their tech support tomorrow.

Yes, my ID is LGD037E. And you're right, the new Dell doesn't have the RGBLED, my current Dell does. Apparently you can upgrade the Lenovo W530 with the matte version of that screen, but it is a fugly machine.

Just want to confirm for the New Zealand and Australian people here (and may also anyone else that get the same model) that the HP ENVY 15-3202tx is actual is a 1366x768 panel.
The HP ENVY 15-3202tx was taken out of the box and checked, by a store here for the Asia Pacific region.

Otherwise I was going to buy it, as based on this HP product page that lists the exact spec with the 1920x1080, but it turns out the 1920x1080 panel spec is not true :(
    http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bi...=5259184&prodTypeId=321957&objectID=c03389615

This is a big deal for us here, as this is the only Envy 15-32xx model that can be purchased in the region

You can get all the drivers here.

Some have multiple versions on the site, so make sure to download the most recent. I'm not sure if there is a specific order.

I'd really suggest making recovery discs and doing a minimal restore from them. It doesn't add much bloat at all and installs the proper drivers.

The "swsetup" folder on your main drive also contains the factory drivers.

AVG, Avast, MSE are probably the best free solutions but I'm actually using my free 2-year subscription to Norton and liking it. In the past the application was extremely bloated but they've finally trimmed it down and it beats many other virus scanners in performance. Although once they ask me to pay for it I'll probably go back to MSE.

So I finally got to play around with my new Envy and...

    1. It makes a really disgusting grinding noise in the optical drive at boot.
    2. The fan noise is ridiculously loud and constantly on
    3. There's a periodic clicking sound that's coming from the hard drive.

Looks like I get to send it back in for repairs?

Periodic clicking may be the optical drive and may be normal, did you try to put a disk in it? Probably won't help. I wouldn't ask for a fix, I'd request a replacement. They will charge you for the second one until they get the first one back. Ask to speak with a case manager . Good luck

I ordered my Envy 15 this weekend while I was in Vegas for EVO :D

I opted for the i7 processor, with the HD screen and kept the stock 6GB of RAM since I would rather upgrade it myself. It is supposed to ship on the 18th.

    I am so excited :)

Nope, nothing inside the optical drive. I only opted for the fix because the laptop I got, other than those problems I listed, is perfect. No blemishes, no build problems, nothing dented, sticking out, bulging, etc. I'm afraid if I get another one I'll have a nightmare of a time getting one like this.

It seems like the build problems was just when they changed the production line over to the refresh. Seems like people have been getting better units. The fan thing worries me, I personally would take my chances and do an exchange as you seem to have at least 2 sizeable issues. Good luck.

My HP Envy just arrived and I have a serious problem. I don't have AMD Catalyst?! Windows is just running on the integrated graphics WEI gave me a score of 5.9. How do I fix this?

You should be able to download Catalyst from here
It should be the AMD High Definition Graphics Driver, version 8.951.9.1000

I understand WEI (Windows Experience Index) is not the greatest tool to measure performance. My WEI is 6.7 that is on the graphics with 1GB AMD 7750m DDR5 (rest of them are between 7.7 and 7.9; I have SSD installed). Do most of you have the same score on graphics card/graphics gaming?

BTW, I have not changed/switched/modified anything except installing SSD as the primary drive

    i7-3610QM CPU
    8GB 1600mHz RAM
    480gb SSD
    1GB DDR5 AMD 7750m
    1920x1980p screen

    Thanks!!

I have a 6.7 for the graphics as well.

And does anybody know if installing the catalyst beta drivers will conflict with using switchable graphics?

[EDIT] Well, after looking around, it seems graphics switching is maintained. Now, if only downloading the drivers from AMD would work. I get around 30MB in the first 10 seconds if I am lucky, and then the download rate drops to about 0.5kb/s, before stopping because of a network error...

[EDIT] Well, the guru3d mirror doesn't work. Let's see if their slightly newer leaked beta drivers work, as that link does work. Time for some !!SCIENCE!!

[EDIT] Btw, how did you enable overclocking PaKii? I have changed the settings in the config for Afterburner, as well as made sure the EnableULPS were set to 1 in the registry, but all I am getting is the clocks appearing to be set to 0 in Afterburner, and I am unable to change them.
