my cpu is saying 7.6![]()
and if u install over the hp drivers, the 12.7b shouldnt affect switchable
-
Yep. After I managed to find a working mirror (the AMD download link isn't working for some reason, the download speed keeps dropping until it stops due to a network error) the switchable graphics were still there.
Btw, Btw, how did you manage to get overclocking working? I have changed the settings in the config for Afterburner, as well as made sure the EnableULPS were set to 1 in the registry, but all I am getting is the clocks appearing to be set to 0 in Afterburner, and I am unable to change them.
And are you getting an jitter in game? I'm running it the High preset, just with the AA and AF turned down one level. I'm getting consistent 38-45 FPS, yet when moving or turning I'm getting some jitter, that honestly gives me a little motion sickness. FPS isn't affected at all. -
u gotta put enableulps to "0" not "1" and are you talking about skyrim? cause yeah idk it feels alittle jittery but i got fraps fps counter on top so ik it snot the fps randomly dropping.
and i play on ultra with all setting maxed besides reflect water stuff and no aa/af
here is what worked for me which i posted in 17 thread:

I'm ordering my envy soon so what should i do once i receive a new laptop? (i.e. update drivers (the switchable gfx have problems?), check for damages, i suck with this kinda stuff so would someone kindly make a checklist of some sort? Thanks!
-
I never had to edit the enableulps thing in the registry editor. just change the overclocking mode in Afterburner.
But im having a problem with the 12.7 beta drivers though. Restarting my comp causes blue screen every other time, and the other time i get a message about a windows error but no blue screen. I down graded back to 12.6 and its working fine, i think i installed the 12.7 beta and then another hp video driver with that causing some conflict, so im probably gonna try re-installing those again.
I got may computer last Thursday and meant to have a review for it Monday, but its a crazy week, so im probably not gonna get it down before Friday, but i did want to mention real quick about the felt issue that was a big deal earlier. I think i got it pretty bad because my disk would come out, but the felt causing the disk to get pushed up causing a long scratch on one side. I guess d3 uses the internet to install or it just wasnt damaged luckily, but i fix this pretty easily with a small pair of scissors. Now it works perfectly, even a week later.
Other then that and the 12.7 driver issue, which is just a software glitch, i probably screwed up i absolutely love this laptop, and think its a big improvement over my dv6 (especially the temps!). I will write a fairly in-depth review soon hopefully comparing the 2. -
hey guys, what is the battery life of the HP envy 15-32xx with the 8 cell battery? Battery life for word processing usage, internet streaming usage, gaming usage?
-
word processing: 5-6 hrs, internet streaming: 3-5 hrs gaming: u dont wanna game on battery
depends on what brightness u like, where ur streaming from, quality etc. -
Well, I wasn't able to get it to work. I changed the stuff in the config, set enableulps to 0, and Afterburner still displayed my clocks as 0 and didn't allow me to change them. I then found that apparently AMD removed the dlls that enable unofficial overclocking and tried those.
Now I've just done the minimal restore I was planning on doing before I went to college next month (in fact, 1 month from tomorrow exactly! WOO!) early. I'll try installing catalyst 12.1 (as it has those dlls) before installing 12.7. Then I'll see if I can get overclocking working.
And for the jitteryness in Skyrim, I'm wondering if it is due to playing with a mouse... If I can find someone with a usb controller I'll have to test that. -
I ordered my envy about a week ago with an expected ship date of the 16th. Will I get a notification when it ships? I can't wait!
-
lol 1 month and 6 days for me
where you off to? and i dont think u needa instal 12.1, u can seperately dl the dll files from online ( i forgot that i did it)
and im also using mouse -
I'm going to Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
I felt it was safer to go with just installing 12.1, so they end up in the right place. I'm just reinstalling 12.7 now as Skyrim downloads. Here's hoping it works this time!
[EDIT]Well, it seems I can't overclock unless someone figures out how to enable overdrive in catalyst. Setting some of the enableulps options to 0 in amdkmdag causes a BSOD several seconds after you log in. However, only having enableulps set to 0 everywhere else does not cut it, as Afterburner still would not allow me to overclock...
High on skyrim is still pretty good looking, especially since I haven't noticed any performance change between not using and using the high rez texture pack. -
Guys I need help, I'm playing super street fighter IV arcade edition....
And I have the program configured to "high performance" in the switchable graphic option but it's only using the intel gpu and not Radeon...
It runs okay... Kinda... At 30fps on highest setting... But I wanna use Radeon../ the in game benchmark says its using intel. Plus Radeon should run this game easily at at least 60fps?.....
Help a bro out?

How well does the graphics switching work?
Edit:Will it always run the amd graphics while plugged in? -
Is it an openGL game? I know that Shogun 2 Total War is openGL, and will not recognize a discrete graphics card when dynamic switching is enabled, whether it's optimus or enduro. This was fixed in earlier Envy's with a BIOS update that allowed the ability to switch to fixed mode.
The only option really is to wait for HP to update the BIOS with a fixed option. It may help speed them up if many people reported this issue, and how it was resolved on previous envys.
[EDIT] Dill, it works very well, except for in programs like Shogun, in which no graphics switching works at all, regardless of green or red. -
Okay cool thanks
the switching graphics things is my biggest concern about this laptop haha
-
For anybody interested, I found a fix for the jitteryness in Skyrim.
To Those Who Think You've Got Skyrim Playing Smooth - Steam Users' Forums
You basically set the game to run in windowed mode at your screens resolution, then launch with the fix's provided exe, which positions the window as if you were playing fullscreen. The jitter is pretty much gone. -
alright thanks man+rep. ill c if it actually worked in a bit
-
I'm looking to but the envy, but I just had one quick question before pulling the trigger. Should I purchase the i5 or the quad-core i7. I'm not really going to be doing any serious processing, but will the i7 give me an advantage over the i5. Also is the quad core i7 more "future-proof" than the i5.
-
the card will be the first one to be underpowered in the future. that being said, the jump from i5 to i7 is a significant jump (30-40% i believe)
-
Yeah, it's definitely worth getting that performance increase if you can afford it. However, get anything higher than the lowest quad core i7 isn't worth the price per percent increase, unless you have a certain budget you need to use up (such as a university given grant for buying a laptop. In that case, upgrade away!)
-
Is there a subsequent hit to the battery life for upgrading?
-
Those of you who were asking where to buy retail, I saw the 32XX model E15 and E17 in Frys Electronics, City of Industry in California.
-
Not to be sceptical, but are you sure? It still does not list the 32xx model of the E15 on its site, or any other site on the entire internet, on that note. Plus, if it is, great! Do you happen to remember or recognise the model no.? The built to order models are either HP ENVY 15-3217nr or 15-3247nr, but both are literally the same apart from the hard drive. If you remember it to be one of these, then it is legit
And lastly, do you remember the price, either exactly or relatively? Hopefully, its cheaper than $1299, which is the normal price for the old 3040nr...
-
Unfortunately I didn't take the time to memorize the number, but it had the 7750m and Ivy bridge processor. Price was ~$1400-1499. If you need more specifics you could call the store.
-
Yeah the 15-3217nr and 15-3247nr both have these, the only difference between them is that the 17 has 750gb at 7500rpm and the 47 has 1TB at 7500rpm (?)... Good thing is that both have the i7 3610QM as well. But ~$1400-1499?! Wow, that is quite expensive, and I know that in America you have extra tax and VAT ON top of that (In UK it is all included) so that's gonna be a heck of a lot. If it's that case I think I will honestly stick with the 3000, my parents would definitely not allow me to get this... nor I for that matter
Haha I actually found a guy selling a BRAND NEW 3200 for $800(!!) on Craigslist.. Let's hope it's legit... :S -
i highly doubt its legit unless its the lowest specs. (i5, reg display etc.)
-
Out of curiosity, has anyone put a bluray drive in their Envy 15? If so, which model fits?
N -
i remember someone saying they trying to put in... never got feedback on it.
on another note, what kind of battery life are you guys getting? -
Yeah, I remember someone mentioning the BluRay drive and I'm curious too.
As for battery life, watching 2, 20ish-minute 720p anime episodes over HDMI or WiDi, with laptopscreen brightness turned down almost to the bottom, and WiFi on, it drops battery to about 75-80%.
At that rate I guess with some luck I'd get 8 eps on battery, which is about 3 hours. -
Any 9.5mm drive should fit. Expect to pay $200-250-ish as they're relatively new.
-
hmmm im getting like 3.5-4 hrs with 70% brightness, music in background some youtube vids, and a couple of tabs and messengers idk if thats average or not.
im barely able to finish a 720p blu ray rip movie with full brightness and full audio. is that expected cause of high powered display and audio? -
How long does it take in production? mine has been in that stage for two days now? does hp usually ship on their date or before? i really want to play the gw2 beta on it but my shipping date isn't till the 25th... :'(
-
Will keeping my battery in and gaming for long amounts of times kill my battery quickly? Or should i keep unplugging the charger then plugging it back in when its about to die etc. Thanks!
-
Sounds just like my laptop so...
Hey can anyone tell me how I can set up things for the f9 and f11 keys? since they're blank i'll set it to launch chrome or something... -
If anyone wants one of these and doesn't want to wait for 2-3 weeks, CDW has the 15-3247nr in stock. I ordered yesterday and paid extra to get it today and its perfect
3610QM, IPS, 7750, etc.
https://www.cdw.com/shop/products/H...enkwrd=ALLPROD:|15-3247nr|All Product Catalog
The DVD is fine (ejects OK), the bezel is perfect, no blemishes or dents on the chasis, the blues and reds and greens all look amazing. I've never had an IPS screen on my laptop and I'll never go back.
I have both the envy 15 and the new xps 15. Going to take some comparison shots ASAP. But I'll say this off the top, there is no comparison at all between the screens. Envy's IPS wins all the time.
N -
Hey ma, just curious, but I read in the specs of that model that it has a "1TB at 7500rpm" harddrive. Is this true? Or is it wrong and actually just 5400 rpm? Because I know that during customisation on the HP site it only has the 1TB at 5400rpm...
-
would love to c those shots
. dell should have kept the old screen. it killed hte option of the xps for me
-
just for curiosity, does Envy 15-32XX has a switchable graphic card?
-
it has amd's version of optimus so yes
-
It is 1TB @ 5400rpm. That didn't matter to me since I'm putting an SSD in it.
N -
Does anyone know any decent fans that can keep this laptop cool while gaming?
-
Does anyone know exactly how to get the AMD graphics card recognized when setting up a game? Every time I try to set the display adapter settings for a game, it only shows the intel 4000 card and not the AMD. When I pull up the 'configure switchable graphics' option and set the .exe to high performance, it still only recognizes the intel card..
-
From what i have read on these forums if you just play the game it should end up picking up the amd card. So you may want to just try that. I personally have no experience with it myself, but i am hoping to get mine soon!! Hp takes a long time to produce laptops or i am just impatient
Edit: sorry if you have already tried this, but this is what other people have been saying and i know i wouldn't just open the game and use the intel card. I would try to get it to switch
so yeah
-
honestly if u dont oc it u dont need more fans. the fans on this keep the gpu/cpu cold. even with my almost maxed OC, the highest its going is 75C and that was when it was 80F in the room
the launchers always say that. what game are you talking about? just start up the game and if u did it right the amd card should run. there are very few games that are impossibel to get them recognized -
Does the switchable graphics work well the other way? So when i am not doing graphically intense things i am not burning away my battery life? And when i do actually get my envy is hps driver site up to date on the latest and best drivers?
-
idk i was one of the first batch. they realsed a driver update like when mine shipped. and there was also a bios update. urs might be up. and yeah just make sure to put it on powersaving just in case
-
i have the January Envy 15 3000 with the 300GB SSD installed... i was thinking about buying this newer 3200 series for the better reds IPS screen and faster AMD 7750 card.
Can i buy one with a small hard drive in it and swap out my SSD from the old 3000 series to this one? Is it plug and play like that? Or do i need to buy one with an SSD in it so the connectors are the same? I am assuming the brackets that hold the SSD in place are the same as well... -
Swapping out the drives won't be an issue. The only difficulty is the existing OS installation and drivers on the two drives which could cause some headache.
-
Thanks for the input on the switchable graphics. I'll take your word for it that it is using the AMD card in game. I've only tried Borderlands and Deus Ex Human Revolution, but both run perfectly.
One other question because it is driving me a little nuts: Is there any way to reduce the fan noise to a lower register? I turned off the HP coolsense setting, but the fan spins at a low medium rate, when just simply browsing the web. I was hoping for a dead silent fan but it's not the case with this laptop.. -
well my replacement should ship today... hopefully it does :O otherwise ill have to milk hp for more money
