So does anyone know how to get the 7750M working? I have all the latest drivers, games set to high performance in AMD Catalyst, laptop is plugged in and set to high performance in battery settings.
-
-
it might be just the game man... try running some other game or a benchmark. if that also fails that mght mean u got a dud vid card

I downloaded Medieval 2 Total War and it seems to run better than rome even though it is a more graphically demanding game. I have a few questions:
1. When gaming on medieval 2, the fan got REALLY loud (could hear it across the room). Is this normal?
2. I can play the game at 1080p with all settings to highest and AA to 2X or all settings on just high and AA to 4X. Which is better? Detail settings vs AA at the same resolution. Frame rate is approximately 30fps for both settings when zoomed out and as low as 15 when zoomed in during battle although it doesn't seem choppy.
Thanks,
Nick. -
1) since everyones impression of "loud" is different, i cant really provide much input on that but my fans do go up pretty "loud" but the speakers at even like 40% drown out the fans.. (well for skyrim anyway). also, yeah they are loud, but they are keeping the laptop cool as hell.
2) if u are fine with the fps, go highest and 2x vs high and 4x, that would be the most different. if u want better fps, high and 2x -
I used the search function on this thread but still have a question.
Is it possible to use a discount coupon and still get the free Xbox 360? I know they are both redeemed by coupon codes and you can't stack them (?), but have some people been able to get both? By calling? -
I realise that "loud" is subjective but to simplify it, the fans go to their absolute max and are the loudest laptop fans I have ever heard in my life needing at least 60% volume to drown the noise out! But I am getting good temps on idle: 35 Celsius. Gaming I hit 70 Celsius which is a bit concerning?
-
hmm maybe... i didnt play much at stock clocks but i think i hit 65 ish? not too sure i have played with OC 90% of time. and the max i have ever hit was 75c in a 80f room lol. usually like 72-73
as for max, u prolly have some problem cause ur temp is alittle high but what is ur environment temp? i think my fans have only hit max speed once (at that hot day) and they go like 80% for when temp goes above 70 otherwise at 50ish i think -
Can anyone post about the colors from the IPS screen, in this new Envy version?
Is the "red issue" color gone??
Thanks -
read (or atleast skim) the pages of this thread my friend haha. and yes the red issue is gone. now a lesser issue (but an issue none the less) some peopel ( a small minority) are seeing a blueish tint with blue being washed out... i dont have it and many others dont either
-
Thanks for the answer! Just what I needed to know.

Environment temperature is quite cold, 15 degrees Celsius. I am sure it is the 7750m engaging when I play medieval 2 total war but I don't think it does when I play rome because my fans never speed up and I get low framerates. I primarily bought this laptop to play Rome Total War (my favourite game) so it is disappointing that I can't. Do you have any ideas on manually overriding graphics switching to make it use the 7750m when playing rome?
-
How are you guys monitoring the temp for the 7750m? HW monitor doesn't show the gpu temps for me.
-
Around what kind of battery life are you guys getting? Standard stuff like messaging, web browsing, youtube, etc.?
-
while I haven't actually done just web browsing and stuff for the whole battery life it's been showing about 4-5 hours and I think it's pretty accurate considering I got around 3 hours or so while watching some videos.
-
I am only monitoring CPU temperature with Core Temp
Power saver and low brightness, using facebook and microsoft word = 5.5 hours battery life. -
What's the best way to get GPU temps?
-
I use an app called BatteryBar to monitor my battery and it is really accurate. I am getting around 4:45-5:15hrs set on "Balanced" while doing light internet work (Remote desktop sessions), E-Mail (Outlook 2007) and IMing.

I have a question for the owners, has anyone opened it up to add ram or replace the HD, and if it is possible would HP know you've been in there?
-
It is possible, and easy to do. Removal of the hard drive only requires removal of the bottom plate.
Removal of the RAM requires removal of the secondary plate on the bottom of the unit which has 4 screws holding it in place.
HP know how the unit was configured by the PN/SN of the laptop, so they know what should be there.
Replacing these items does not void your warranty if that is what you are getting at. -
So I got my envy. Everything looks great except for one thing..
THe trackpad is raised on the bottom left side. Like if I run my finger along the edge of the trackpad, I can actually feel the edge of the inside part. It seems like I can almost lift it out if i get my nail underneath it.
It works perfectly but it looks sort of awkward as it slopes down from left to right.... will this be a problem long term? Should I not risk getting an even bigger problem if i exchange it? -
Do any of your laptops run completely silent or is there always audible fan noise?
-
damn i slept in and missed my laptop delivery
. will have to wait till tomorrow
-
Replacement Envy came today and guess what...it has the EXACT same issue with the optical drive (foam too thick, discs cannot be ejected unless I push it down a lot)! This was the main reason for my replacement because I feel like if I'm paying well over $1K I deserve a flawless machine. Do they seriously not have any quality control?? In for one more replacement and if that one is messed up I'm returning this thing for good.
EDIT: chatting with HP rep., trying to get a replacement and meanwhile trying to keep this broken laptop until I get the new one because I can't keep being without a laptop for weeks and weeks and she offered to send me an old "quick ship" model instead. What is up with this terrible customer service. About ready to take my money and run.
Now this second rep is telling me there is nothing wrong with the optical drive and I just need to press the "eject" button and take the CD out of it's tray. This is after I explained 5 times this is a slot loading drive with no eject button. She then informed me that I cannot exchange my order because only one exchange is allowed. Is there anywhere where this is stated? I can't believe HP is trying to get away with this. Has anyone received another defective replacement and was able to get a second exchange order? -
Mine used to make constant sound but there's an option called "fan always on" in the bios you can turn off. After doing that, mine runs virtually silent when it's cool.
-
yeah the reps are stupid. i forget which number to call but there is a number for actual techs who kinda know what they talking about. anyway, u should be able to get more than one exchange. ask to speak to a manager straightaway, they will either let u talk with them or give u some incentives
. i missed my replacement so i cant tell u if this is on my replacement but yeah. call them up again. ask for fast shipping and some part to upgrade.
yeah that option does really help. i had it off but then yesterday i tried it on to c what the effect would be and i really did notice the fan after. -
Has anyone heard anything more about international releases? I'm from NZ and really want to get one of these, but all we have here at the moment is the 15-3202tx which has the crappy 768p panel, and it's not even shown on the NZ HP website. I looked at the UK HP site and they don't seem to have the Ivy Bridge models yet either, so I'm hoping that there might be a 'non-US' release sometime soon?
-
ok with lowest brightness (enough to see everything comfortably in my room), backlight off, proximity off, desktop facebook messenger on, killing floor running in background (not very gpu demanding game but still a game), 1 open tab in chrome, steam on coolsense off, im getting around 4.5 hrs of life.
the screen and speakers must drain alot of battery cause when its on full brightness and max speakers im only getting like 1.5 hrs streaming hd video lol.
i wish the battery life was more but ehh ill have to learn to lower brightness
and i should be fine in class. my replacement comes tomorrow, lets c what i get from that
-
Just got my Envy and so far its great. Quick question though. Even with "fan always on" disabled, I can hear my fan when I'm just normally browsing the internet. Is this the norm? Most of the reviews I've read say that the Envy is pretty much silent...
-
I'm having the exact same problem. It is bugging me and making me consider buying a different laptop. I am also blessed/cursed with sensitive hearing so it seems especially loud, even though it is easily drowned out with music.
On a side note, does the hard drive produce any sound? I imagine 7200rpm must do something. So maybe this is hard drive noise and not fan noise. -
Yeah 4.5hrs is actually a little short, I've heard from other people that just doing standard stuff they get 5-5.5 hours though. Hopefully it will hold up b/c i need it for classes like you lol
And best of luck to your replacement! Post your batt. life for your new machine, maybe it'll be more

Hello
I just recieved mine today, all is well, but has anyone tried to play games with the screen/lid closed? I have hooked it up to my 27" monitor and want to play some games but i´m worried about the heat.
I´ve read that some laptops vent the air up behind the keyboard.
Regards.

Sigh, I have some very early signs of disappointment with this computer already.....
I have gone into catalyst.... I have made sure I designated league of legends as high performance.... i have set the computer to high performance in control panel... I have set high performance on battery and on charge...
League of Legends is still lagging. It sticks at 60fps a lot, but at many times in battles and what not it will dip down to sub 40 fps.... and this is just absolutely unacceptable to me.
Im trying to look for people with issues, but these cards are newer so theres not a lot of info. I hope someone can shed some light and help out.... If this computer can not run such a simple game at 60 fps constantly, I will not be keeping it. I know this video card can handle it easily. -
I did replace my hdd with an ssd. It still makes fan noise occasionally when browsing the internet, it really depends on how cool your room is.
-
Haven't used mine for gaming much since I got it, so the only games I have are Portal 1 and 2. Both run at ultra settings @1080p with a constant 60fps with no lag whatsoever. All I did was designate them in the control center as high performance and that was it.
-
the harddrive does make a bit of sound but to hear it u gotta put ur head next to the right palmrest.the fan r just always gonna be on but they will quiet down depending on room temp.
hmm well i decided to run a battery test, so with backlight on, facebook messenger on, 7/10 brightness, battery eater "readers test" going, i got 306 mins which is 5.1 hrs....
notebook check got 6.75 hrs with wifi off and min brightness so im thinking it might just be the screen sucking energy. ill run the test on my new one
. im unpacking now
i havent tried it with lid close cause i use the screen but i think that would be a bad idea cause i think the intake is right where the display is. if i look down at the edge with screen open i can c the openings so i would assume thats something. but then agian, they are also open with the screen closed. iw ould just try it out and c if it gets hot
hmmm card should be able to run it fine. can u run some other game and c if that runs fine? cause if that doesnt run also, it might be ur gpu not active or something -
ugh why do u do this hp -__- my hybrid harddrive is either malfunctioning or not connected properly. everything else is fine except for this tiny tear in the plastic of the screen bezel near the hinge. i wouldnt mind it if only the damn harddrie worked -__-
-
What's the gaming performance on the newest version? I've wondering about getting one soon...
-
well called up hp again. my laptop would decide to load up this itme but ima send it back for a new one just for the hell of it hopefully with another upgrade/discount
-
its right under 650m in performance but it stays very cool. if we could unlock voltages we would be able to aggressively OC it
-
The only problems people have reported as far as i have read in the two huge threads on this laptop, if you have coolsense on and you move the laptop at all and it is sorta hot it can cause a severe drop in fps. The way you described it, it isn't that. How is your internet connection? I suck at tech stuff but can't that cause fps drops? I have no clue i'm just trying to help
Sorry if i didn't
-
Dropping to sub 40 fps on intense battles seems normal to me. If needed lower the resolution to 1600x900 - I really don't expect to run any game in the last 2 years at a full 60fps at high settings.
-
alright i decided im returning the replacement in exchange for another replacement... no money off this time
. anyway the reason being, the harddrive was malfunctioning when i first started it up and ran setup and etc. i got hp to trouble shoot it and now its fine (using it right now) but i dont want the harddrive to randomly die on me while in school. physically the body was almost perfect. no dvd drive problems (i tried burning ejecting reading etc. its running smooth). no dented/bulging ports, no smudges/specs/imperfections. the only two things r the glass bezel thing was popping out i pushed it in and its fixed. and there is a small cut of the plastic bezel near the left hinge for display. it doesnt affec performacne and i cant see it without looking down on it but again the harddrive is what made me return it.
i did oc the card again and what not and it turns out this one oc's better than the one in my original one. i got it up to 696/1000 (didnt touch memory might do it early morning tomorrow b4 shipping it back to hp) here is the result: AMD Radeon HD 7750M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3720QM Processor,Hewlett-Packard 1851 score: P2245 3DMarks the gpu temp didnt go above 75c according to afterburner.
as for screen. its perfect. again no color issues. the overall color is on the "warm" side (very little) but i think my original was like that b4 i tweaked the settings a bit but nothing much. i would put comparision pics but there is no point because they almost the same thing besides the replacement being a tad "warm". -
Question for yous: I have to order an adapter for VGA... However I don't know if I should either order one from Displayport to VGA, or HDMI to VGA?
What would you suggest?
HDMI Male To VGA Female Video box Converter Cable (Chip inside) For PC DVD 360 | eBay
HP Display Port to VGA Female Cable Adapter- P/N:481408-003 | eBay which should be this: HP Display Port to VGA Female Cable Adapter 481408-003 | eBay -
I am having the exact same problem with Rome Total War. I did everything you did, "made sure I designated total war as high performance, set the computer to high performance in control panel" and I get 10 fps when I should easily get 30 considering it is a 2004 game. It is really frustrating and I am certain that only the integrated gpu is engaging.
Great if you can actually get the 7750m to work, otherwise, forget it and buy a desktop. -
Just noticed that HP's stock on their NZ website has gone from 22 models to 14... a sign of an update?! fingers crossed...
-
What program is used to check the temp of the computer? I just want to know what temp my Envy is at
-
Core Temp, it's free: Core Temp
-
Is there a way to check GPU temp though? I use speedfan or coretemp for other temps. Thanks.
-
Woot finally ordered an Envy thanks to the 30% off coupon and the total came out to 1430 with 3year ADH+Onsite and tax. I also ordered through mrrebates, and does anyone know how to confirm that you are getting the rebate, because I didn't get an email or anything after ordering? Hoping for a flawless unit here.
