noooooooooooooooooooo my replacement was perfect! STUPID SCREEN! IT HAD TO HAVE A DEAD PIXEL!!!!


THankfully i have the care package thing so ima just use that for inhome service to replace the screen. im not sending this one back.

 

well since i gotta wait till tmrw to ask the guy to come by and replace the screen, i started OCing the card in my replacement. its OCing amazingly compared to my original. i got it up to 700/1000 so far and its been stable. the temp havent gone above 64C. the only problemim having is 3dmark11 randomly crashing (this is not cause of OC cause its happening on stock clocks also) it just randomly stops running when the physics tests come up (the cpu stressing one)

i got it to p2282, and gpu score of 1999. trying to break 2000 for gpu lol

EDIT: Got it to p2324, 2035 for gpu @ 735 with max temp of 65C!

 

79 degrees C is perfectly fine. Most ivy bridge laptops easily reach 85-90 when stressed. Is it your first laptop ?

 

wow i just got a really really random score... @735/1100 my score was: AMD Radeon HD 7750M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3720QM Processor,Hewlett-Packard 1851 score: P3195 3DMarks . how does this happen??? glitch in the program?? gonna run it again.


btw my regular max (meaning that score up there) at 740/1100 is p2341 with gpu of 2048.. interesting ima try seeing if i get that random score again. wish me luck

nvm i got regular score after that... that must have just been a glitch. atleast ill go in the records for my 3dmark11 score from a 7750m

another thought but i just realized how sexy the envy would look if it was all black. i had the paper keyboard cover thing on (from when we first get it) and the lights were dimmed so for a sec i thought it was actually my envy that was black and with the backlit keyboard shining through it it looked sick. i would def pay a hundred or so extra for an all black envy besides the beats logos (they can stay red) i attached some pics haha.

 

YES!!! I thought I was the only one. It is exceedingly annoying (I wasn't sure if it was the fan or the speakers crackling). Trouble is, I live in Australia and bought a US model so I can't send it back. My solution: play some music... oh wait the wild volume swings are ridiculous and ruin every song.

It is my first laptop haha! I just though that was rather high but i must have been thinking along gpu temps. So 79 is fine and won't hurt the life of my laptop?

 

Wow the black does look really nice, almost like the Dell XPS 15. I wonder if someone can create a skin for the keyboard area to make it black.

 

yeah like the xps but i like the key layout of the envy better. also i think the backlit quality of the envy is better including speakers. I hope there will eventually be a skin or something for it.

or maybe hp could release a black edition of the envy 15 that was slimmer and lighter w/o odd with same specs or same weight/thickness with a better gpu and no odd. I would pay good money for that *drools*

lol i wish. it would be 14 in laptop in 13 in frame with quad core, 650m/7770m, 1080p ips, <4 lbs, <1 in thick, all black besides radiance keyboard lol with a glass touchpad with the beats dial

yee exactly. it could be the Hp envy 14 Spectre, Black edition. and pricing would start like 200$ more than the envy 14 spectre right now and go from there.

Don't forget to make an optional slice battery for those that don't mind the extra thickness and weight, but would like to get insane battery life.

To all of you guys that asked for exchanges, did you also ask for upgrades and did you get them? And how long did it take to ship?

I recently called them and they said they would ship on the 27th, which is 24 days from now. My current envy took 12 days to ship only, so im confused.. I leave on the 24th so it's a dilemma for me. I told them i'd think about it so i didn't get a chance to ask for an upgrade lol

Dang now i hate the looks of mine!! I wonder who at HP decided to go with the 2 tone color scheme. I LOVED the very first envy 15 and the envy 15 beats edition purely because of their looks which WERE one color tone scheme!! Honestly if someone could come up with some sort of cover/casing for the silver part that matched the lid color i'd get it in a heartbeat..

I'm assuming the 2048 is the graphics score for the 3dmark11 and not the amount of ram of your gpu?

 

It is soooo annoying when it is really quite!! I have no idea what it could be other than the fans or maybe the hard drive? I'm sorry you can't do anything from Australia but you live in a awesome place! Do you guys think I should call hp? it is only a minor annoyance, but could it cause problems later on?

 

Does anyone know if you bought an extended warranty with HP, does HP ship the info on the warranty separate from the laptop? The reason I'm asking is because when checking my order status, HP gave me a tracking number for the warranty but the laptop is still in production. Apparently, the laptop is supposed to ship the 6th and the warranty is supposed to arrive the 6th, and I'm hoping they made a mistake and that I'll be getting the warranty with my laptop lol.

 

I have a question for people that recently purchased the 15" Ivy Bridge Envy which seems nearly identical to the original Envy sold in ealry 2012 except that the processor is now updated from Sandy to Ivy. I purchased 2 Envy 15" in the winter but returned the first due to dreadful QC issues (first one haddented USB ports, scratched cover and separation between the 2 main aluminum pieces on the front corners; second one had a fan that was ALWAYS on and was annoyingly LOUD).

Has overall build quality improved with the release of the Ivy Bridge model (I'd think HP would have some of the kinks worked out now that they have been producing the Envy for almost a year)? Also, how is the fan noise?

I love the form factor of the new 15" Envy and considering another go around since the new Ivy Bridge Samsung Series 7 laptops which I was holding out for seem to have continued issues with the all important wifi reception?

I just got an email saying that my order is delayed and won't be shipped till the 20th. I need my laptop before the 24th so this doesn't work out for me. Is there anything I can do to get it earlier?

 

I did a minimal install and it worked great. Just got all the ncessary hardware drivers with no bloatware. I'll take this any day over a clean install and then hours of driver issues.

 

Take an airplane to Shanghai and pick it up in person... lol I'm just joking...

I am having issues of not being able to have any hdmi audio when connecting through the hdmi connection. I checked the systems and can not find an hdmi audio driver. I checked the sound options and set to show disconnected and disabled playback devices. And reinstalled the ati drivers and still no hdmi audio options or drivers installed anywhere.

Anybody run into this problem. This is the first time I'm trying this out.

Can anyone recommend a great long lasting cooling fan? My temps are not crazy, but I am. Is anyone else having trouble getting keys like backspace to work sometimes?

 

Have you thought about cancelling your order and ordering from ebay or amazon. You say you leave on the 24th which gives you a little over 2 weeks to get it. You will still get the 2 year warranty from HP. The specs should be the same. The price would be around $1300 if you can find a good deal. Did you save money using a 30-33% coupon and that's the reason you can't do it.

Your only other choice is calling HP and try and get the quick ship model... Use every trick in the book to get it. Remember if one person says I'm sorry sir we can't do that. Hang up and talk to a different person like Managers...

 

Wow some of my keys are missing strokes... is this a software problem or should i get a replacement? I need it for school and missing keystrokes, especially the backspace makes things rough.

 

I remember that being a bios issue. What bios version are you on. Also try updating to the latest version...

 

I can't be a hard drive problem because I don't have one! I ordered mine with the 256gb crucial m4 ssd. I think it must be a fan issue?

Just like you said, I used the 30% off coupon so I can't really buy from Amazon since I'm using scholarship money to buy this laptop. I also bought the extended 3 year NBD onsite warranty. I'll call them today and see what I can do.

 

If knew how i would haha! and i am on F.06 what should i be on? it seems only my g, h, and backspace key misses enough for me to notice that it is not just my typing error.

 

im on f.06 also. i wanna mod the bios to increase the gpu voltage for the 7750m (so i can get the desktop card ) and i wanna fix the fans so tehy are quiet on idle

Just found out my Envy was delayed from a ship date of yesterday to the 23rd... Should I try and heckle them for a discount or expedited shipping?

 

Same thing happened to me, except it was delayed to the 20th. That didn't work out for me because I'm leaving for college on the 24th so I called them up, and the rep said he could send an email to get priority on my order to have it shipped earlier. He also said he would upgrade me to 2-day shipping. I'm hoping my order is actually able to be shipped earlier than stated, otherwise I'm kinda screwed.

 

What did you say to them? I'm in a similar situation but I leave on the 19th so I won't get it before no matter what. I would like to have it ASAP though to use for school work.

 

I just told them that I need it before I go to college and the guy told me he'd be able to send an email to production to get it shipped earlier. Then I said that other people have been getting free 2-day shipping because of the delays so he also said he would add free 2-day shipping.

 

I got the same delay notification on mine, was supposed to ship 8/8 now set for 8/23. I just got the email tonight so I will be calling tomorrow to see about getting 2 day shipping or rush processing. I am also leaving town and won't be around to accept any package on the scheduled date.
