I got an email for a 15% coupon because of the delay. Think it's possible to use this on my already purchased envy and get credited?

The GPU is definitely being choked. Ran Novabench and I'm getting half the framerates of another user with the same GPU. GPU utilisation, according to the AMD system monitor, barely reached 40%?

check afterburner sensors, and which other users? and what is ur results? ill run on mine

Sorry, posted in wrong thread.

oh god the guy that they sent to replace my dead pixeled screen doesnt know anything about what hes doing. hes saying the envy is a new model so he doesnt know about it, he spent 20 mins online trying to find a guide, when i linked him to the maintainance guide thats when he started understanding a bit. i really hope he doesnt reck the machine. it was perfectly built with a card that was ocing fantastically. hopefully no problems when its put back together again! :S
-
hahaha hells naw... I thought home technicians were smarter than that... Make sure if he damages something else while fixing the screen you report it to HP...
-
oh i will its just that i have run out of time. im moving into college in a couple of days so i dont have time to send it in for repair/replacement if the tech guy screws up

Got Envy 15T-32xxx through my friend, who lives in USA (i live outside USA). When he received it, laptop has a problem (of course
), the "4" button backlit was broken. Then I asked him check display for dead pixels. He says, that there are three dead pixles (monochrome). Even after that, I decided to stick with it. (Cos he couldn't stay in USA till the date, when replacement could reach his hands). So he arrived with my laptop.
About button backlit. I tapped on keyboard in that region. Then launched heavy applications (3D Mark, Prime). Seems backlit LED element little defective. Now it's working, but little dimmer. It's okay.
About dead pixels. As I expect, it was only dust.
About color reproduction. Reds are fine (slightly brighter than needed). And about dark blue colors. Reporting : in comparison with my older toshiba satellite A300 15.4 TFT, dark blue colors appears slightly gray.
In comparison with mate's macbook 13" (2009), aliminium body seems a little softer.
Sound: It's not that better, than my toshiba's harman/kardon. Little dissapointed. But appreciated a more sound detalization.
Fans are noisy. In future planning to correct them.
One thing, that play a great role - cooling system accessibility. I like, that hp even pointing on fan cleaning ability in hp helper. On my old toshiba, I was need to disassemble whole device, to reach fans (f#cking toshiba does so always, as i know).
Seems I'm lucky, cos I read here many negative situations with defects of this model. (Although, at least body manufactured in Foxconn, i.e. iphones assembler).
Overral: all is as expected. I like it and recommend. I'll be glad to help anyone, post your questions. (I very well know about PC's hardware). Thanks for attention. -
do u know how to mod the bios? (cause u said u plan on correcting them
). I also want the fans to quiet down along with upping the gpu voltage alittle.
and i also had a toshiba b4 this and it was a great pain to clean the fans. My replacement had a dead pixel but the repair guy fixed it and i dont c any problems where he might have screwed up. hopefully i got the perfect machine now. -
No. In case of laptop VGA, it's dangerous and ineffective. FIve or more years ago, overclocking was my hobby. But after first laptop this hobby dissapeared. But for now, as I understand, it's possible to realize, cos we have HD4000 in case of false start of Radeon. But I don't want to torment Radeon, because of couple FPS in games, paying it by lower battery life and high temperatures. Temporal overclocking is necessary. Don't look in direction of GT650, and it's high possibilities of overclocking and higher (2000-2300 as standard) 3D Mark scores, it's worth nothing, if game on your laptop is unplayable on max settings, be sure, GT 650 will have the same (although couple of FPS higher), overclocked it, or not.
-
"no" as in no u wont do it or no as in u dont know how to
. im getting 2300s with my OC but the temp stays less than 70 with like 10 mark11+unigine heaven benchmark runs. I just wanted to up it alittle more. but if u dont like doing that its fine.
my other reasoning was to unlock advanced options in the bios so i can quiet down the fans at idle. They are pretty annoying -
To PaKii94
"No" means, that it has no interest to me, although I have an radio-engeneer degree. Would be more interesting to make some hardware modifications. Don't forget about power circuits life, they don't like overload, that you'll not notice. That's all for now. Anyway, good luck. -
oh alright, what hardware mod's are u thinking of?
-
So has anybody replaced the disc drive with a Blu-Ray drive? After install and using one in my parents desktop, I'm no considering upgrading the drive in my laptop to Blu-Ray in a couple years when my warranty expires.
Hopefully 12.7mm Blu-Ray drives will be cheaper by then! -
How much it costs now?
-
It doesn't matter now. But, it would be interesting to make some hardware-changes in VGA power circuit and one more thing. I've noticed (from several net sources) that 7750M and 7850M chipsets have exactly same quantity of transistors (1.5bln). That mean, they based on the same chip, but 7750M has some blocked shaders (as usual). Remember old times, when it was possible to unlock blocked shaders? But at today I think shaders blocked on crystal. It's just some interest, no more. Just waiting for more info about desktop version of this chip. (Suppose somebody will make desktop 7750 to 7770). Anyway, Envy 15 is a great machine, which combines good hardware in compact case (that's why I'd excluded Envy 17T from my field of view).
-
oo it would be interesitng if someone did that but then again wouldnt the argument u were making for not modding the voltage come into play again? but yeah with hp's qc, i actually looked into other laptops but nothing else comes close besides the mbp but that has osx, and extremely overpriced
-
Just need wait for GPU-Z screenshots of someone's real radeon 7770M GPU voltage.
-
haha im guessing by the time that happens, the next gen envy will be out. and i dont think it really matters anyway to get the 7770m voltage cause ive already surpassed the 770m's clocks
-
Currently, it's $150 on newegg. So only about 20-50 more than a desktop one.
-
Maybe-maybe.
-
For everyone fed up with AMD's buggy Enduro implementation, please contact HP about adding a "Switchable Graphics Mode" option in the BIOS:
Also add a request here: [REQUEST] HP Envy 17t-3200 BIOS advanced menu
And make a report to AMD: AMD Issue Reporting Form for AMD Catalyst -
I removed my optical drive and put in a second HDD. The process would be the same for replacing the optical drive. The laptop is well constructed, and if you're patient or have experience it's not difficult to open, although you basically have to deconstruct the entire system minus the screen. I didn't take any photos, but the service manual should be guide enough. Also, I believe you need a 9.5mm bluray which is in the $200-$250 range?Mistercheif said: ↑So has anybody replaced the disc drive with a Blu-Ray drive? The only real problem I am having is a constant clicking/rapid, intermittent grinding (not loud but irritating like a fly buzzing) which I think is coming from the fan. Someone else mentioned it, any idea for a fix? I'm not really comfortable with pulling apart my laptop and I can't return it to HP as I live in Australia (this is a US model).PaKii94 said: ↑im still here i think its just cause we are used to our envys now nothing new out to change anythingClick to expand...

The rest of the world is still waiting/hoping that we actually get a release -
I've got mine on order and hopefully it will ship sooner than the expected shipping date of September 7th. I'm pretty eager to receive mine after hearing about the poor QC problems and the possibility of a screen with color problems.
But you never know these days. I can't figure out why the 7750m isn't in more computers if it's almost as good as the 650m but seems to run cooler. Yet it only scores a little above 2000 on 3dmark11 and the 650m can get 2300.
My sandy bridge + 550m really chokes on some games because it's really lacking in the number of shader units. At the time this thing was the best choice especially if you didn't want a dedicated gaming laptop and wanted something under 15". I'm really hoping the 7750m is somewhat capable enough to run the current games at medium/high settings and overheat. -
After much debate and research, I've decided to take a chance on an Envy 15. I haven't had a chance to read the whole thread so I don't know if these two questions have been answered.
1. Is there much difference in gaming and regular use between 6 and 8 GB of RAM? I'd rather save the 40 bucks in upgrade and put that toward 16GB at a later date if there's a need.
2. Is the hybrid drive worth the 40 dollar upgrade? I've read a review on Anandtech for the Seagate Momentus XT and it seems to be a decent upgrade. Is this the same or a similar drive?
Thanks to PaKii94 for the great review on youtube. It was one of the reasons that convinced me to try the Envy. Hopefully I don't get a bad one. -
One more question:
Is the standard bluetooth module one that can be used for the Dolphin emulator? I'd like to play some of my Wii games on the go. -
Ok so my laptop shipped on the 18th, and it says the estimated arrival date is August 23 around 4:30pm, although I'm leaving on the 24th. The latest update on the shipment is: Aug 21, 2012 3:00 AM
At local FedEx facility
SHANGHAI CN
Based on your experiences with shipping times, do you guys think the laptop would make it from Shanghai to New Jersey by Thursday? I'm not sure if FedEx is even taking into account customs. It just seems like their estimated arrival date is too optimistic. -
I bought someone's custom HP Envy 15-3200 US model (I didn't get to choose the components). It came with 6GB of 1600mhz ram and I have never found it lacking. I have played Napoleon Total War at 1080p, high settings, large armies in addition to having google chrome, windows media player, word and powerpoint all open at the same time, my total ram usage averaged only 4GB. I have done the same thing with Crysis and have never gone above 5GB of ram. I would say save your money and buy an SSD. Much better performance than 16GB ram and a hybrid hard drive.HorondoRumbuckler said: ↑After much debate and research, I've decided to take a chance on an Envy 15. I just ordered a 15t-3200. I was debating between this and the dv6t-7000, which only had a $175 coupon. Since the 15t had a 33% off coupon (equiv. to $495 coupon), the price came out to be lower than the dv6t so it was a no-brainer decision.
-
haha no problem and good luck! there will be minimal difference between 6 and 8 gb and since they are both 2 dimm, ur gonna have to remove both. if u plan on upgrading to 16 gb anytime soon then don't go for the 8 gbs. follow Mr.Nick's advice ^ and get an ssd right now if u can, that would make the biggest difference. If you cant budget it, or if u need extra space right now, or if u want the prices to lower, then yeah go for the hybrid drive. I find it boots/resumes in seconds, and it does load things faster. Also, when u do upgrade to ssd, it has a nice resale value atleast 75$+ so u will be getting back more than the "upgrade" priceHorondoRumbuckler said: ↑After much debate and research, I've decided to take a chance on an Envy 15. The first page of this thread suggests that HP is still shipping out 15t-3000 series even though we are clicking on the 15t-3200 link. Is this still true? Placed an order today and want to be sure I will receive a 3200 model. Thanks.

Just ordered my Envy. i7-3610QM, 16GB RAM, 256 GB SSD.
I want to removed the optical drive and install a 500GB SSD. How difficult to do this? Which caddy looks best with the Envy? -
Thanks for the advice, Nick and PaKii. I got one with a hybrid hard drive and 6GB after I did a little bit more research. I might add a SSD at a later date, don't have much use for the optical drive. Now the long wait begins...

I am thinking of buying one of the Envy 32XX laptops. I have seen on the web that previous versions had 4 dimm slots (2 "user accessible"). can anyone tell me if the 15t has 4 dimms? thanks.

Still not so sure about the 7750m, some people have said its bad, others it matches to 650m, and yet still that say it has more overclock potential??? Can anyone sum up how performance is on this compared to something with the 650m (dv6)... Is the plastic part of it underneath the body also well-built??? I'm trying to get a laptop to last a few years and so I want the premium build, so i'm really just wondering whether or not i should wait for the late-2012 upgrades.
-
stock clock to stock clocks, and the difference between the 640m and 650m (ddr5) being 100%, the 7750m is like 85% better than 640m, and 15% less than the 650m. However, this is at very cool temps... hovering around 65.KylePR said: ↑Still not so sure about the 7750m, some people have said its bad, others it matches to 650m, and yet still that say it has more overclock potential??? By maxing the OC with stock voltage, (that varies but my highest is 740/1125) its on par with the 650m +default turnbo boost with temps still being relatively cool (max is 75 and thats on a hot day with no cooler)
If we could up the voltage a bit (so it can combat like the higher voltage 660m/650ms) the card can should be still be even more OCable.
I highly doubt there is gonna be a late 2012 upgrade (maybe it will just come standard with win8) considering this is the 2nd revision in one year. u will prolly see the 4000 series at the beginning of next year.
I don't know what plastic part you are talking about but the body is all metal besides the wireless antenna covering on the tip of the lid and the latch button for bottom panel. Compared to the dv6, this is much cooler, offers almost the same performance, ips display, better speakers, and better build quality and durability.
well im back to homework, hope that helps. a little rep wouldnt hurt

Thanks for the info. As for the plastic i meant the black casing underneath it that contains the battery/hard drive etc... it seems to be plastic from pictures but perhaps its not? Considering that Haswell won't come out for quite some time i'm guessing all that will be gained is an updated design, in which case i wont wait until next year, was just worried about minor spec upgrades like the graphics card but your post has reassured me that it is good... i had heard people put it on par with the 550m which seemed low to me, but i have almost no experience with the nvidia/ati naming systems.

the casing is all metal besides what i said before haha so yeah the two bottom panels are metal. and yes next upgrade will be haswell and 8000/700 series gpus. the 7690m (from previous gen 3000s) was on par with 6750m which was comparable to 550m. the current one is right below 650mKylePR said: ↑Thanks for the info. I haven't been to the thread in a while, but I was wondering if anyone could tell me more about the CD drive making a somewhat loud creaking noise when getting off sleep mode. Also, I was wondering which driver/bios works best with the video card.

How did you get your overclock so high? If I remember you used to max out around 670-675, which is about where I am.PaKii94 said: ↑By maxing the OC with stock voltage, (that varies but my highest is 740/1125) its on par with the 650m +default turnbo boost with temps still being relatively cool (max is 75 and thats on a hot day with no cooler)

Also, I believe the two black bottom pieces of the housing are made of magnesium so they'll feel similar to plastic. -
i think its just card quality and the standard voltage. my original one oced to 667/1100, my 1st replacement was 674/1100, my 2nd replacement (the one im on now) is 740/1125. If only i could OV it just alittle more I would have a desktop 7750 hahapongalong said: ↑How did you get your overclock so high? oh btw its not very stable on the 740/1125. it crashes half the time while running 3dmark11 and heaven. i havent been doing any intense gaming so i havent been able to test out what is a stable OC. I would assume 725/1125 as stable.
This glossy screen is really annoying im ordering a antiglare screen cover from ebay ill let you guys know how it goes. -
Lucky you =) that's a pretty big boost. At 670-ish I'm not noticing a huge benefit. 3-5 fps maybe, only useful for games where I'm only getting ~20 fps to smooth it out and not worth the questionable stability.PaKii94 said: ↑i think its just card quality and the standard voltage. my original one oced to 667/1100, my 1st replacement was 674/1100, my 2nd replacement (the one im on now) is 740/1125.
