hmm i noticed more of a 5-10 fps boost in games with my 669/1000 OC in skyrim

just enough so ultra is above 30 fps when outdoors

Ultra at 1080p? That's with OC? I don't believe I get anywhere near that. I'm running most of my games at 1600x900 to smooth it out. I'll have to play around with afterburner some more, although I don't really like having enable_ulps on all the time as it eats more power.

PaKii I just added to your rep. You seem to be the 15t-3200 champion on here right now. I'm still waiting for mine to ship.

For those asking about the 550M, I have one in my Y470 and it scores 1200 in 3Dmark11 and 1400 with a mild OC. I believe people were getting around 2000 with the 7750m.

I saw a few posts while searching on google about adding a little extra voltage. I'm kind of disappointed that we have all these new cutting edge video cards but no good drivers and no decent guides on a good OC. I think this is the only laptop with a 7750m, and many 640m/650m are having throttling and heat issues.

why thank you lol. and yeah the 550m is no match for the 6770m let alone 7750m. We should (hopefully) get supported drivers soon. and u dont really need a guide for OCing its pretty simple. The envy 15 has excellent cooling. if only we had a few more millivolts :(

Good news to New Zealand :D (and maybe elsewhere?) the 3200 series has appeared on the HP NZ website!

HP ENVY 15-3202tx Notebook PC (B6U24PA) | HP® New Zealand

There's a 3208tx as well, but that has the 1366p screen = waste of time. I wonder how long it will be before a vendor stocks these, seeing as you can't buy from the HP site...

Thanks Pakii94 for answering all those questions, the metal panel reassures me and there's just no way that i could wait until next summer for a haswell...

I did a little googling and found the amd comparison table (i had missed it before) and was surprised that the 7750m got slightly higher GFLOP performance with comparatively low clock speeds to the 650m. No wonder you are trying to unlock those volts XD

For people like me... heres the specifications

Hey PaKii94, my new HP Envy 15 is gonna arrive tomorrow, but I have a quick question about the trackpad.

The trackpad is basically one surface with a small section with the left and right buttons. But I'm wondering would I be able to keep my left hand on these buttons while using my right hand to move the cursor? Or is the section from where the buttons are also sensitive for movement?

    Thanks!

regular usage u can get anywhere from 3hrs (80% brit, wifi, music blasting) to 6 hrs (0% brit, no wifi, just microsoft word) i can tell you that it gets me through around 4 hrs worth of classes a day + alittle more for hw b4 i gotta plug it in

u can but i find it easier just to tap to click. and if u move the left finger even a little bit it registers it as a multitouch gesture (like pinch to zoom)

hmm, without enableulps set to 0, i can't get msi afterburner to detect the card to modify the clock speeds. what method of overclock are you using?

I receive my Envy 15 and I was playing around with it, and I noticed that with power saver settings on, The battery meter is at 100% and is claiming 3 hours and 42 minutes left which seems low compared to what you guys claimed. I'm at 50% brightness and using wifi atm. Is there anything I have to do to get more out of my battery?

well you seem to have a particularly good card. enableulps should be an AMD setting to put the second card into low power mode, which causes issue with detection when overclocking. i've tried several OC methods and clients including reverting to old drivers and .dll files but can't get it to work without enableulps = 0.

finally got my 3rd envy yesterday (after a two week delay from it's original ship date). it looks like I finally got one that will eject a disc from the optical drive without getting stuck and no other problems (fingers crossed). If I had known that back in June when I first ordered my Envy that I wouldn't have a functioning laptop by the time the semester started for me (in August!), I would have bought something else. Dealing with HP customer support was a nightmare too and basically I had to buy a whole new computer because they only allow you to replace your initial order once (which they never tell you anywhere, and can't show you anything in writing about this "policy"). Aside from that the envy is really solid if made properly and has a really sleek look which is what initially drew me to it.

I saw that Catalyst 12.8 is out. Has anyone installed and tried it out yet.
It says its not compatible with switchable graphics laptops, so I'm not sure if that's referring to our Envys then.
I'm not at home, so I can't check, but what version did new ones ship with?

    Thanks for the info!

So your graphics switching still works? Did you notice any improvement in any applications or games?

Also, what's the correct process for uninstalling the old/installing the new drivers. I'm always more reserved when it comes to graphics drivers procedures.

thank you! I will still need to think about it. The envy 15 does have its advantages over the Asus. First, the cooling of the envy is excellent, as are the build quality and material. I only paid a little over $1k.

The Asus U500 with the gt650m is going to be at least $1799 IMO, and there is a big question mark over its cooling capability and battery life in such a thin design (the i7 is a quad core, not ULV).

The biggest advantage of the Asus is portability and Windows 8. As much as I dislike Windows 8 I will need it in my line of work. Decisions decisions

Bloody hell, that is exactly the type of laptop I was looking for when I bought the Envy. I7, 650M, SSD, no optical drive, ultrabook form factor! Why did I waste so much money when I my dream laptop was just around the corner? :( Cruel world...

I wouldn't get too carried away yet. If it has Windows 8 then it is AT LEAST 2 months away from release. Probably longer, and possibly much longer if you live in a backwater like Australia :(

The Asus looks damn nice. If HP had decided to get rid of the optical drive they could have made the 15 a bit smaller. It looks like the Zenbook has a matte screen. If they get the weight and performance right I may have to jump ship as well.

Also, has anyone installed Windows 8 preview with all aspects working?

It does look nice, but other than some minor issues with the audio spiking and brightness changing while on battery (both of which i've fixed), I feel my Envy is a pretty damn awesome machine. Boots up in 30-40 seconds, absurdly fast in-system, plays well with the games i've put on it (only portal 1 and 2 for now), and is great for streaming stuff off the 6TB of harddrives I have hooked up to my old laptop (which I now use as a server) with a 300MBs wifi connection. The WiDi adapter is great too for wathcing any file through my AV receiver.

And for the $1,400 I paid for this beast, I can't think of a single reason I'd get rid of it.

That also looks promising. although ASUS has the matte display and the Zenbook build quality of currently released models beat the Envy XT line.

Can everyone here give a report about the gaming they have done on the new hp envy 15 3200? I know some people have had graphics switching issues. Which games work best, what feels like it is underutilizing the card (I've seen more complaints about that on the 7970 that is in some of the other brands besides HP), how satisfied are you gaming on it? What seems to top on this unit is how cool it runs gaming, I'm really impressed by the thought of that.

Today was my estimated ship date. I ordered on Aug 17.

Anyone check out the Catalyst/Enduro article on Anandtech?

    AnandTech - AMD

I'm glad that AMD has gotten their wake up call. But until they have properly working products, no manufacturer should be using them unless they want to lose market share and get consumer complaints.

I'm hoping the 7750m performs acceptably and does not have all the problems that seem to plague the 7970m.

My experience reading is that the 7750m's main hitch is not detecting when to switch, although maybe this is a problem with less products than more of them, rather than throttled performance. But I'd like more people here to speak up about what they've gamed on. Our friend pakii seems to be the only person on youtube to actually have posted a video of the laptop in action, and no one has done a gaming check with it online!
