My understanding is that the casing of the envy 15-1XXX models is made entirely of a magnesium alloy, no aluminum at all. Only the screen bezel, the four rubber feet and the hinge connecting the screen are not made of metal. Not sure what material was used to make the touchpad.

Is the 3xxx as "metallic", or is it made of more plastic (ala envy 14). -

i'm not very convinced that there will be a refresh anytime soon...

i've extended my 21-day shipping return policy another 21 days after around may 21st lol so i have until the second week of june to decide if im gonna keep my current envy or wait for the upgrade.. but damn that was a lot of work to make that happen
hopefully they release it this month so i can return my laptop on time -
What do you guys think about the envy refresh compared to this eurocom? Eurocom Racer 2.0 laptop receives Ivy Bridge, offers Radeon HD 7970M graphics -- Engadget
Obviously, the aesthetics can't hold a candle to the envy, but what about the internals? 2gb 7970m! -

I'm faced with a challenge:
A) Return my orange 15 and get my money back (sort of, they're apparently keeping 50$, cause me).
B) Swap it for an envy 17. HAALLPP -

Will HP be using Radeon? -
hp is predicted to use radeon for envy. all the new laptops being released are actually with nvidia cards. the only exception is inspiron 15r se which has 7730m.
i think the laptops are going to be released then amd releases their trinity apu on may 15 i believe just waiting on it. the latest ima wait is comptex in june
-
ive only seen nvidia cards on other brands as well
im not sure what im hoping for in the envy lol -
im only hoping for atleast gt 650m level of performance of gpu and screen fix
and ill buy it no questions asked -

have any pics leaked?

i'll buy it no questions asked just because it would have the exact performance specs i would need.. sighh its taking too long to come out!
-
I wouldn't be too enthusiastic about the release date. The Envy 14 was refreshed slowly, 5 months after Intel released Sandy Bridge.

If they offer 30% off, I might just buy a refreshed Envy 15 instead of a desktop. It'll save me the hassle of filling out rebates and hunting for other parts.
But here's an unaddressed worry of mine: Will it ship with Windows 8, or will they at least offer us a voucher so we can obtain a copy of Windows 8 from HP when it releases? I'd like to be able to take advantage of a new OS if I buy close to its release date. -
-
Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
That seems to be a typical offer once you get within 2-3 months of a new Windows release. I imagine it depends on Microsoft - manufacturers aren't going to sell Windows 7 PC's with free Windows 8 upgrades unless Microsoft is giving them the Windows 8 licenses for free or at least almost free.
Please don't rely on rebates if you're going to build a desktop, though - retailers give rebate companies something like 1/3 of the total value of the rebates offered, meaning that they have to reject most of the rebates they receive to turn a profit, and they do turn a profit. Unless you're saving a significant sum, mail in rebates aren't nearly worth the headache of trying to get your money back, and the long turn-around is designed to make you forget you were supposed to get the money back at all, meaning even the most diligent shoppers are gonna get jilted on rebates. In the end, it's best to just buy whatever offers the best deal out of the door. -
I vaguely recall HP had had some kind of rebate option for late Vista buyers when Win7's release date was really really close. Hoping we have something like that for the Envy. Estimated release time frame is October 2012.
Worst case scenario is I end up buying the notebook with Windows 7 and later buying my own Windows 8 upgrade copy from my school $20 give or take. Not worth it to skip the early rebates just to buy an Envy way later with stock Windows 8 installed.
It won't be the same as having a full version of Win8, but knowing myself well, I'll probably upgrade/install Win8 once during my notebook's entire lifetime. But I'd personally prefer a FULL copy for cheap. I'll be in my last year in grad school if it really does release in late 2012, meaning if Microsoft decides to have some kind of blowout sale on Windows 8 for students again as they did years ago, I might be able to pick up a copy! Here's to hoping HP is smart enough to obtain Windows 8 code early and instruct its software engineers to start coding Windows 8 drivers for the Envy 15. -
Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
If I'm not mistaken, Windows and Office are always cheap for education (teacher, administrator, or student) purchases in the US, but maybe the blowout sale you're referring to was an even better deal than they usually offer that crowd. -

My laptop screen crack, keeps getting worse as each days passes...Release it already HP or announce it.
-
Sounds like you're due for a refresh. -
we're all due for the refresh! i want it! i want it now! come on HP!!
june 1st is my last day to return my hp envy 3XXX 17.. should I just return it? -
Weird...my last post didn't show.
As I mentioned earlier, I do recall the Arrandale refresh began around July. They publicized the 1st generation Envy 14 starting around March/April. It's not the refresh that's late, it's their publicity that is! They need to get the word out soon. -
-
Seems like the grass is always greener on the other side. I have the Envy 14 (14.5") with the 1600x900 Radiance Display. Love the color reproduction and brightness which together made this the best screen on the market at the $1,000 price point back in 2010. But I would really benefit from a 15.6" 1900x1080 display for school. -
guys i just realized the base cpu on the envy 15 is a dual core i5, what if hp is waiting for dual core ivy i5s to be released first so then they can release the envy lineup? does that make sense? lol
-
We can now confirm that HP is working on an Ivy Bridge version of the ENVY 15, and it will be available very soon. You guys have already found out most of the details:
ENVY 15-32XX (ENVY 15-3200 series)
New SKUs:
Code:SysId02=0x1851 SysName02=HP ENVY 15
- Intel 7-series chipset
- 3rd generation Intel Core processor
- AMD Radeon HD 7750M (ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp56501-57000/sp56896.cva)
- Intel USB 3.0 controller (ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp56501-57000/sp56907.cva)
Based on the documentation, there is some speculation that the ENVY 15-32XX may be offered with an optional upgrade to the AMD Radeon HD 7850M. However, I think this is only reserved for the ENVY 17-32XX series. Although, it may be possible to put an ENVY 17-32XX motherboard into an ENVY 15-32XX chassis and vice versa.Last edited by a moderator: May 7, 2015 -
Kind of soon, isn't it? Are they going to allow pre-orders end of June, or actual orders?Last edited by a moderator: May 7, 2015 -
I also updated the thread title to attract more discussion into this thread. -
Awwww. Got me all excited! -
omg this is a dream come true
please let it have 7850m or atleast the 7750m compete with gt 650m :S. do u guys think it will match up? notebookcheck doesnt seem right idk
-
Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
7850M would make the Envy 15 a major force to reckon with on the notebook market, and if the IPS screen were replaced with a Radiance-quality screen with no major color issues, it would be unbeatable in its class.
-
Huh? Isn't the previous IPS screen a "radiance" display?
Or is the current display inferior to the Envy 14's (1st generation)? -
)
-
I really hope they get that part right, even though I decided today to hold off on upgrading. I'll be keeping a close eye out to see whether they've fixed this issue. Even if they decide not to offer panel replacements for current owners, the least they can do is get it right the second time around.
NOW AVAILABLE: ENVY 15-32XX Intel Ivy Bridge (AMD 7750M)
