"FREE Upgrade to Blu-ray player & SuperMulti DVD burner "
where does it mention anything about switchable graphics
-
abaddon4180 Notebook Virtuoso
I am not seeing anything about a free bluray upgrade and it not mentioning switchable graphics is an oversight by HP.
Edit: My mistake. I did not realize you were talking about the dv7QE. I missed your note. Even so, bluray isn't always going to be included. That is just a promotion. -
Are you just assuming the switchable graphics? what's leading you to this conclusion? I have noticed the higher battery life, which would easily be explained with switchable graphics (considering most other components are same or better)
-
Yea, that's what i thought, i removed it from my original post.
well i'm getting it today probably, so i get free blu-ray
is the blu-ray player also a writer? -
Quick question if you don't mind me asking....
What made yo go with the i5(SE) over the i7 (QE)? Battery life?
Did the coupon code not work? (I would think they would be about the same price) Best Deal: $400 off HP Coupon, HP Coupon Code and HP Coupons -
Not mentioned at all, yet the graphic driver for the dv6/dv7 with 6490/6770 contains both amd and intel drivers, which indicate switchable graphics.
Funny if they mess with the CCC, then well....
-
I remember reading that the esata is a combo with a usb. (EDITED: Guess that was pre-refresh)
How do you know there is switchable graphics? -
We don't until someone gets to play with it.
As I posted before ... it was hinted by their graphic drivers. -
I just checked...
That $300 off coupon code works on the new dv6 quad.
Because there is no back-lit keyboard....I won't be getting another 6.
I may get a 7...or go with another brand. At this point, there is no reason for me to get a 6 over a 7. -
If they brought it to 500MHz, they would have called it a 6750M. My money's on undervolted and 650/800.
-
AMD Radeon HD 6570M v AMD Radeon HD 6770M. Based on those charts, the 6770M has additional pipelines. The speeds are not so black and white as we don't have any specific documentation on how the revised version will be clocked.
Performance in non-gaming applications shouldn't see any appreciable difference. My interest is in how improved the 6770M is with games specifically and if switchable graphics is enabled now. HP does not state the feature specifically, but I noticed something in the specifications. Under 'Adapter' there is '90W AC (Intel Graphics) / 120W AC (Radeon Graphics)'. Why state this unless switchable graphics is enabled? -
After some checking, Singapore lists it as switchable:
Product Bundles - Promo 2011
The switchable will make me want to get the 6770. I am just worried about battery life with the stronger graphics card. If it is switchable, then I wouldn't think twice about it. -
so just to recap again (based on new info):
new features -
2x USB 3.0
CoolSense
Better graphics card
Quad speakers
new "dark umbar" look
probably switchable graphics
almost certainly backlit touchpad
better battery life (about an hour extra from what i remember)
Removed features - E-sata
Not included -
1080p
dual-band card
backlit keyboard
NOTE: I am specifically referring to the dv7qe -
That looks about correct....but you need to add the Infinity display to the list.
I just had a chat session with HP...no back-lit keyboard for neither the 6 nor 7.
One thing to keep in, the new 7 comes out of this a lot better than the new 6 because the old 7 didn't offer a back-lit keyboard to begin with. -
Also:
Camera is now HD
Dedicated left, right mouse buttons
-
Very disapointing that there is no dual-band wireless card option. I spent good money on a dual-band router. Now the laptop I wanted, which is not cheap, doesn't even offer it as an option. Even my two-year old DV5t has a dual-band card.
-
Well, the "list" price for this DV7 config is $1494 before any discounts (or instant rebates) or tax. Since HP is supposed to be honoring our old $500 off coupon codes ($1399 or more), this model will (should) be $994 before taxes. That will be almost $1100 dollars shipped for a laptop without a back-lit keyboard in 2011....I don't know about that. But the platform itself is very powerful, and this has a blu-ray writer.

"17.3" diagonal HD+ HP BrightView LED Display (1600 x 900)"
that's not infinity display, in fact that's no longer even an option

NOTE: I am specifically referring to the dv7qe -
For those of you who purchased a defective dv6 or dv7 SB a while back using the $500 off coupon you should be able to apply that coupon to the new Envy 17 3D. I was able to call the HP Resolutions Center and explain to them that I wanted to return the defective dv7 SB I had and use the $500 coupon on the new Envy 17 3D. After the second call (first time failed), the HP rep not only applied the coupon but she applied it to an EPP order. I got the Envy 17 3D in my sig for only $1005.79 ($660 savings) and it should be here tomorrow!

The previously posted graphics driver releases plus the better battery life plus the Singapore page listing it plus the brochure listing them leads me to believe that it almost definitely has switchable graphics.
-
I called HP today to finally arrange my return for my dv7 (recall issue). The first time around (in Jan.), when I applied the $500 off coupon online, it took away the $150 instant rebate. This time, the sales rep took $500 off AFTER the $150, so a total of $650 off. I'd been on the fence between this model and going for an Envy 17 3D, but I really didn't want to step down to the 2630 and I thought $350 more for the 2820 was too much. Overall, I'm really happy--I'm out a total of $60 more than I was for the first model for a system that's much more powerful/feature rich than before.
-
can you give the exact specs for this laptop?
-
Correct...
I should have been more clear. Infinity display should have added to the "removed or not included" list.
It was available on the 6 if you had the touchscreen, and it was a $50 option on the 7. But it is no longer offered. -
That is pretty good right there...
If I can get $650 off (instead of $500) I may be tempted to go with a new envy.
Yes...specs please....
Edit...got it..... -
the base price is $1,649.99 tho on the website, how'd you get a base price of only $1439.99
-
No backlit keyboard
You took a step backward, HP. Disappointed. Looks like I'll be going with either Dell or Toshiba. -
"Very disapointing that there is no dual-band wireless card option"
Is this correct? I would have thought if you were selecting the Intel 802.11b/g/n WLAN and Bluetooth(R) option you would be getting the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 wireless card which is dual band. Is there something that says that the new dv7 does not have dual band option? -
Employee Purchase Program (EPP) order. You can also get the same discount if you're a college student using HP Academy. Also, the base price of the Envy 17 3D got bumped up $50 as of this morning.
-
b/g/n means 2.4 GHz ONLY
a/b/g/n means 2.4/5.0 GHz (Dual-band) -
Wow, who was your rep?
You managed to get EPP + $150 instant rebate + $500 off?
You made out like a bandit.... -
Does anyone know if this has SATA-III? I am asking because I want to put either an ocz vertex 3 or and Intel 510 ssd in it at a later time.
-
Where on AMD's webpage do you see anything seperating the 6600/6700 series with specific clock speeds? You generally cannot use notebook check as they are unreliable and unconfirmed in most cases.
-
Just a thought. Typo's are not unusual (missing full spec description). I just assumed that HP would match what Dell is doing.
-
this has always been MY understanding ... Who cares about 'a', anyway!? ... however 'n' may also be able to use the 5GHz band ... but I only was told this recently and have NO direct experience.
-
so, is it worth getting this new dv7? or should i just get an xps 17? god am so lost.
-
almost positive it's not a dual-band card
-
I talked to an HP rep and he says there is no backlit keyboard available in the parts store. not sure if he knows what he's talking about tho
if anyone can find it, lemme know the part # please -

I will more than likely order Intel's 6230 wireless card and put it in myself.
You can pick the card up for around $25

Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6230 – Overview
I am assuming this DV7 is a 2 wireless antenna design, rather than 3?
3 antennas are normally reserved for very high end laptops.
Does anyone know what wireless Intel card they are using in the Envys? -
AMD lists that the max base clocks for the 6600M/6700M cards are 725MHz core and 900MHz memory, so it's reasonable to expect that. At any rate, Notebookcheck is usually correct in terms of specs post release. For example, they were spot-on about the 6750M having a 600MHz base clock, based on the new MacBook Pros. I'm positive that it won't be less than 600MHz for the base, and if it is, I'm avoiding HP for good due to them resorting to what is essentially false advertising.

I think that XPS 17 is so thick and ugly. Plus you have to pay extra for the 3D screen if you do in fact want 1080P (full HD) -
I just ordered a DV6
Is it possbile to install B156HW01 V1 in it? -
xps is really damn thick and ugly. that's what's swaying me towards hp
-
i believe 572509-001 HP New 802.11A/G/N WLAN HF minicard is in the envy
the one you posted, you are sure it works for 5.0 GHz and would fit into the pavilion dv7s? -
Correct except I got + $160 instant rebate + $500 off for a total of $660 off.
I feel like I robbed them. The rep's name was Nancy.
-
My 3 year old dv9000 has dual band plus 3 antennas. The card can always be changed I guess. Kind of dissapointing this shiny new model doesn't come stock with dual band.
I could care less about backlit keyboard, but i have a question.
2630m or 2720m. is it worth the $150 upgrade? widi comes to mind too. -

It def has 5Ghz... as far as it fitting, we need the model numbers of what cards HP is putting in the DV7 and can find out if this one is the same size. It looks like HP offers one with bluetooth and one without... I would assume they are both intel cards.
Looking at Intel's wireless cards ( http://www.intel.com/products/wireless/index.htm) the 6230 and 6205 are their two high end 2 antenna design cards before you go to the 6300. The 6300 has 3 antennas which I am sure this DV7 is not going to have. Both the 6230 and 6205 are dual band... not sure what the other diffs. are though. -
I agree that post release they will generally correct the information. I also agree that it is 'unlikely' to be lower than 600Mhz, but I never put anything past HP. I think they make a decent laptop, but they have done some pretty lame things. The HP Envy 14 has a severely downclocked 5650M, and while they is listed as a possible clock speed on notebookcheck.com, I am not sure it was 'always' that case. I think a few MFGs made some low clocked variants and they updated the website.
Doesn't matter in the end, I will wait for someone to receive theirs (2-3 weeks) and hopefully post a GPU-Z or whatever screenshot. If this thing is 725/900, it will be a screamer, especially the DV6, as it sports a 768P screen. -
Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 1000 – Overview
this is what the current dv7 has (WITH bluetooth)
also if i get the say, Intel® Centrino® Ultimate-N 6300, how will bluetooth be affected? is it part of this card or a separate piece??
