man, i guess ill just get the refund, and wait, or get me a vaio, this laptop stutter and it has 8gbs of ram, damn it

With all the FREE upgrades added to the old quad's with a new coupon code floating around and the "Demo" button taking you to the promo video/details of the NEW designs, I'd say their release is pretty soon. Especially with Apple and Dell releasing some SB models. HP wants to put these out ASAP.
-
well, after extensive searching on Dell and Sony, imma stay with HP, ill get the refund and wait for the new DV7 to come out. i have a question though. does your guys dv7 stutter when playing music? mine stutters like crazy when playing music sometimes and it gets overworked with firefox for some reason which is crazy since i have 8gb of ram. good thing im trading in

I just noticed that their is a $300 coupon for the dm4 as well. Hope that means they are replacing it with the dv4.
-
First of all, we have no confirmation that they cost more. Second, if it does cost more, they'd just make the customer pay the difference. Third, they've said that they'll honor the coupons.
it should be allowed so long as the new models come out before the end of April and the exchange is made before then. -
The current $300 coupon expires after 360 uses. Maybe that's the remaining stock of the current DV6/DV7 models with the fixed SB. Hopefully they will clear out the remaining stock soon so they can get the new gen out.
Edit: I just saw the same coupon on another site that expires after 450 uses. -

i have an eye on the envy 17. if i were to return my dv6tqe, would hp let me apply my coupon to the purchase of an envy 17?
-
if you're looking at the new Sandy Bridge Envy 17 3D, my guess is probably not, but thats just a guess because this product is just released.
-
-
It is a great value for a Sandybridge i7, 8gb of ram, bluray drive, ect, ect. -
When I first ordered a DV6qe I used a $350 coupon and the next day a $500 coupon came out. I called and cancelled my original order and they offered to give me a $150 discount to make up the difference between the coupons instead of canceling my order. I decided to cancel and reorder so I could upgrade a few things and still pay about the same price. -
Hey quick question to anyone regarding HP coupons. If there was say a $300 OFF coupon for the dm4t BUT it only applies if you spent over $1000.
Could someone say configure 2 of the EXACT same notebook aka dm4t (absolute BARE MINIMUM specs) and have it come to $1,100 and then apply that coupon and have it work? SO it would end up being $800 for 2 laptops? -
-
-
I just want to fast forward to 2 weeks from now so we can know for certain what the new dv6/dv7 will offer as far as screen resolution. -
I just went back and looked at my bank account and the order I just made was cheaper with a $300 coupon than with the $500 coupon I used on my original dv6t QE with the bad chip set.

imho, signs are that HP is sticking with 1600x900 on the DV series and reserving 1920x1080 for the Envy. Right now, the Envy 17 3D Sandy Bridge looks good, to be sure, and frankly I would expect the standard Envy 17 to be Sandy Bridged here soon too
-
I'm in such a dilemma to buy this one or the wait for the refresh. I can't compromise on Touchscreen n Backlit keyboard and the new ones doesn't seem to offer those. But the new ones do have other major improvements as USB3, Coolsense and a better GPU. ( Anything else? ) And once those appear, i guess the these old ones would vanish from the HP Site. And i won't be having any other option to the touchscreen DV6 then. -
Nowhere has it been confirmed that there will be no touchschscreen or backlit keyboard. Just because they aren't listed as features in the promo vid doesn't mean they won't be available. In the previous generation's promo vid, the backlit keyboard was also no mentioned. One salesperson confirmed they will be options (if you can trust a salesperson, hehehehe).
-
All, the sales rep I've talked to, had no idea about the refresh. It's so frustrating, why can't they simply answer if they are going to have it or not?
BTW, just as the present dv6 and dv7, should we not expect a select edition series of the refreshed dv6 n dv7's with those additional features may be? And also the AMD Cpu ones with dv6z series? I mean, if they refresh the dv6 n dv7 series with new designs, it would apply to all the versions of it. I guess they won't be selling both the designs at the same time? Isn't it?
Any experience form the last years refresh? -
BTW, my DV6 (same as the one they are selling now) has Coolsense and the ATI 6570 is a good card with DDR5 memory.
I'm holding out for the refresh before deciding what I'm going to do. -
guys we have similar frustrations in Envy 17 land re: the on-oline descriptions of the product don't match the specs on the ordering page, and numerous other content issues. so far, I have greater confidence in the product demo, however, which on the Envy 17 3D matches the CES announcement.
also be careful about infering stuff from un-official sources -- like backlit keyboards. where did that come from and what certainty do we have that DV series will have it? So far I havent seen strong enough evidence of it. -
Ok, I want to clear up some confusion between myself and someone
The dv6/dv7’s that are out there now they are not the new design w/ Envy like features USB 3.0 ones which were announced early-mid February correct? They are still schedule for “Spring” which I guess means March 20th or thereafter correct?
My friend at work seems to think they are because she saw this
HP Pavilion dv6t, dv7t with Sandy Bridge Now Available -
-
someone should do a comparison -- I see a great deal of similarity between the dv7t-quad out there now and the promised refresh. including USB 3 and HDMI 1.4, beats, etc. check out the product demo
-
Compare the actual configurable options to this: http://h20424.www2.hp.com/campaign/.../resources/HP_Pav_dv7_2pp Brochure_FA_web.pdf -
When i pointed this out to the Sales Rep, he was so cool about it. He told me that we are sorry but keep happening and sometimes even different picture is also shown for the product that is not available. It's known to them and they consider it as some technical glitch at the Webmasters end.
I would even like if someone compares the current Quad ones with the Upcoming Refreshed ones with probability of whats coming & not and whats better or worse? -

HP has got some serious content cleanup to do thats for sure. At least on the Envy 17 3D side, the evidence is stronger that the product demo matches the product that is for sale. but hearing you guys say that the product demo was loaded before the ordering page itself was updated ; thats no good
on edit: just a quick point here, but on the Envy side I find that the "...campaigns/..." pages to be horribly out of sync with the product actually sold, and a bad representation of the selling product (for the Envy 3D Sandy Bridge). In fact, the most reliable piece of content (in my view) could actually be the 'specs' page of the CTO order page. So definately keep pressing HP reps to tell you what DV product is actually being sold, but at the same time don't fall into the trap of trusting one piece of HP content over the other, when clearly the (HP content) left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. -

I have come to the conclusion that 90% of the HP sales reps have no idea what they are talking about. They are either too stupid to understand what I am asking or they are smart enough to dance around the questions without giving definitive answers. One just told me that the dv6 has already been refreshed with the case in the demo but that only the QE has USB 3.0. Then she told me that she has no information on when the 2nd gen Core I dual core processors will be available for it.
She basically made it seem like they already refreshed it and they aren't going to do anything more, though I can't believe that. -
- A better graphics card as an option (which will cost more) while the base card is worse
- Four speakers instead of two
- The touchpad was "fixed" by returning to the separated-button style
- An extra headphone jack
- Two USB ports upgraded to 3.0
It looks like most of the core components have not changed: same CPU, same chipset, same screen, same RAM, same HD, same keyboard and same everything else as the faulty dv7 Quad. Is this what people are holding their breath for? What's the big deal? -

You can't say anything about cost until they are released. The 6490M might only be in the Select Edition, for example.
And just because you don't find a possibly 50% faster graphics card, better audio, a touchpad that doesn't suck, and USB 3.0 worthy upgrades doesn't mean everyone else feels the same. The only other thing they could have done to make it better would be a 1080p screen option. -
Does anyone know what the expected resolution will be on the new dv6?
-
-
that is sad, they get so much right and then so much wrong.
thanks -

That only really leaves the backlit keyboard and the screen. This isn't meant to be a high-end notebook, so expecting RAID is a bit much. It would be nice, but it's not something that would be a deal breaker to most people in a mainstream notebook. And anyway, are RAID and a backlit keyboard really such important features that the other upgrades are irrelevant? Redesign does not mean "change everything that can be changed just for the sake of changing and if even one thing is left the same it's nothing to get excited about." My god, I don't even want to know what you think of Apple... -
