I'd like to create a dv5t owner's lounge and continue conversation in there, since this thread is kind of old/outdated. Any objections?

imho making another post named "owners" isnt such a good idea since most of us are unable to buy the dv5t because the darn riduculous idea of hp to take away the 9600gt....

that or until there's an official notebookreveiew.com review of it

Alright then, thanks for the feedback. We'll hold off on the owner's lounge.

I ordered a dv5t with a 9600M-GT two days ago and I really hope it comes through.

besides... what does HP actually has in its notebooks brand HP???
    the logo? rofl!! :D

    edit: www.powernotebooks.com
    www.xoticpc.com

While its true the Sagers and Asus laptops at XoticPC and PowerNotebooks are good for the price, you lose in the warranty department. So you'll get a great laptop for a great base price, but then you have to pay hundreds for a three year warranty. That alone isn't bad....what is bad is the lack of any ACCIDENTAL DAMAGE warranty.

This alone is the reason I am not buying a Sager or Asus from these guys. Otherwise, those laptops are laptops of my dreams and I would love to own one, but without any accidental damage coverage I just can't chance it. Things happen to a laptop that can't be fixed like in a desktop. If only they offered accidental damage coverage...

Well... i really dont know what u r doing with ur laptops ^^.. ive had 2 notebooks in the last 6 years and none of them has ever had any problem... my father has my first notebook and still running smooth, saying that i can say... screw the warranty ^^..
naah just kidding if u really worried they give u a default 1 year for parts dunno if accident but i really take good care of my notebooks.. i wont be throwing em from a 5th floor or something alike...

Anyway u cant ever be too cautious bue imho paying 300 us more for a 3 year extended is too much (in hp).. i can just take thos 300 and buy a new notebook in 3 years

I've been looking at sager pcs and asus pcs and it looks like sager offers more for the same price than asus?

I'll have to try to find a good cheap gaming sager build. So far it definitely looks like sager offers more for the price than HP...

i found about every site that sells Sager, http://www.xoticpc.com/index.php should be the best place to get them, but unless you buy the sager 8660 or up, your going to get a more cheap looking comp, but for 1400 USD you can have a fast system, serious fast.

ASUS offers 1 year accident. not sure about sager, great deals for ASUS @ http://www.excaliberpc.com/promo/asus-montevina/ and the ASUS M50Vm A-1 and M50Vm B-1 are great, with the A-1 being the best bang for your buck. i spoke to someone there this morning. very friendly.

ive already put the dv5t behind me, now like a few of you said, its either ASUS or sager, with ASUS in the lead. both have Less bloatware than hp and dell, and honestly, hp and dells suck.

I was just looking at the config right now.. they only let you choose 9200M GS for the video card, other than the X4500. Whats going on?

I guess not... some user said they ordered on first day, but hp took it off the site. Strange though, one of the reasons I moved to dv7t

Hey guys - new here. Been looking at the dv5t as well. I doubt I'll do much (if any) hard gaming on it. Still looks like a good deal for me. My question is the screen - (1) Do I really need the higher resolution? and (2) Whats the Infinity display all about and is it that much better?

Also, I plan on buying it at Costco.com. You can build your HP on their website, just as if it were HP's. Plus, Costco has a 90 day return policy AND they double the manufacturer's warranty, making it 2 years, at no extra charge! Anybody else ever take advantage of that?

    1. higher res = more space in screen, smaller icons, everything is extra beautiful, but imo thats something not worth paying for... i like to xpend that extra money in processor, ram or video, but its ur call.
2.infinity display is... imagine a ipod... no frames in an ipo its a sleek desing... same thing happens here.. ur computer wont have frames on display (if u look close a laptop screen is deeper than the frame, so infinity makes it look mosre stylish, thats all), again somethign i wouldnt pay for.. i think powerful computer >>>> beautyful computer
for the cotsco no idea.. its up to u i guess..

Thats what Im thinkin with the resolution. I have 1680 in my 22" desktop monitor, and everything just seems smaller - I couldn't imagine it in a 15" display. As for the infinity, maybe they should call it the vanity display.

If you think 1680x1050 is small on a 22" then it would not be a good idea to get it on 15.4".

My Sager has a 15.4" 1680 display and I love the higher resolution: it is easier to multitask, there is less scrolling, and you can see more detail as asespinalc mentioned above. I got the 15.4" Infinity 1680 display on my dv5t; according to our dv5z review, it has excellent quality:
    http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4486

The Infinity display is very cool. It makes for a seamless display, with basically no borders and looks great. I saw a dv5z with it at Best Buy.

    Second Chat:

    Time Details
07/19/2008 01:27:00PM Session Started with Agent (Melissa Y.)
07/19/2008 01:27:00PM Matthew: "I am confused about the graphics card options on the dv5t series"
07/19/2008 01:27:12PM Agent (Melissa Y.): "Thank you for contacting the HP Home & Home Office Store chat."
07/19/2008 01:27:23PM Agent (Melissa Y.): "My name is Melissa. How are you doing today?"
07/19/2008 01:27:24PM Agent (Melissa Y.): "Sorry, can you please elaborate your question so I may better assist you?"
07/19/2008 01:27:38PM Matthew: "Yes, I am curious about the choices on the graphics card."
    07/19/2008 01:27:57PM Agent (Melissa Y.): "Okay."
07/19/2008 01:28:01PM Matthew: "I have heard some conflicting stories about the availability of the NVIDIA GeForce 9600"
07/19/2008 01:28:10PM Matthew: "I have heard that it was removed due to a shortage"
07/19/2008 01:28:21PM Matthew: "but I have also heard that it was taken off permanently"
    07/19/2008 01:28:36PM Agent (Melissa Y.): "I see."
07/19/2008 01:28:45PM Matthew: "Could you please tell me if it is gone for good or if it's coming back?"
07/19/2008 01:29:08PM Matthew: "Because I am waiting to purchase the laptop until that graphics card returns. However, if it is not coming back, then I don't want to waste my time"
07/19/2008 01:29:38PM Agent (Melissa Y.): "As of the moment, the available options for the graphics card for the dv5t is the Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator X4500 and the 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS."
07/19/2008 01:30:28PM Agent (Melissa Y.): "As my resources are limited, I have no information whether the change is permanent or not."
07/19/2008 01:30:32PM Matthew: "I do realize that those are the only available choices as of right now, but I am wondering if the 3rd option that was there when the laptop first launched will be returning or if it is gone forever?"
07/19/2008 01:30:34PM Agent (Melissa Y.): "I'm sorry for the inconvenience."
07/19/2008 01:30:52PM Matthew: "Is there anyone else I can talk to that may know?"

07/19/2008 01:32:17PM Matthew: "When I called them they said it was a permanent change, but when I asked other people through this chat system they told me there was a shortage. I am confused about which story is true"
    07/19/2008 01:32:40PM Agent (Melissa Y.): "I see."
07/19/2008 01:32:45PM Matthew: "It's just frustrating because I am waiting for something that may never happen"
07/19/2008 01:32:46PM Agent (Melissa Y.): "I'm really sorry for the confusion."
07/19/2008 01:32:58PM Matthew: "It would be nice if I could find out if the option is coming back or not so I know what to do"
07/19/2008 01:33:38PM Matthew: "I am sorry if I'm causing you any inconvenience, but it's just a little frustrating for someone in my position"
07/19/2008 01:34:05PM Agent (Melissa Y.): "It is okay. You do not need to apologize Matthew."
07/19/2008 01:35:15PM Agent (Melissa Y.): "I have checked on our system, and right now there is still no update regarding that. Sometimes, due to shortage on the supplies, it is taken out from the website."
07/19/2008 01:35:48PM Agent (Melissa Y.): "I suggest you check the website from time to time for the availability of that option for the graphics card."
07/19/2008 01:36:10PM Agent (Melissa Y.): "Again, I'm so sorry for the inconvenience."
07/19/2008 01:36:15PM Matthew: "Is there any way you could find out if HP has ordered more of the part? So i know if they plan on returining the option"
07/19/2008 01:36:51PM Agent (Melissa Y.): "No. I do not have access to that information Matthew. You may need to check the website every now and then to know that."
07/19/2008 01:37:15PM Matthew: "Is there anyone I can speak to that would have access to that information?"
07/19/2008 01:38:00PM Agent (Melissa Y.): "You can try to talk to our Sales Support Team. But I cannot guarantee if they will be able to clarify that too."
07/19/2008 01:38:31PM Matthew: "Is there a supervisor or anyone higher up you can ask?"
07/19/2008 01:38:46PM Agent (Melissa Y.): "One moment please."
    07/19/2008 01:38:56PM Matthew: "Thank you"
07/19/2008 01:43:11PM Agent (Melissa Y.): "I'm sorry for the delay Matthew. As for your concern, we do not have updates yet on this matter, and that what's on the website is what we can offer as of now."
07/19/2008 01:43:28PM Agent (Melissa Y.): "Even our supervisors cannot answer that issue."
07/19/2008 01:43:50PM Matthew: "I just want to know if it will be coming back, because if it is, then I will wait for it"
07/19/2008 01:44:05PM Matthew: "But I dont want to keep waiting if it's never comming back"
07/19/2008 01:44:36PM Agent (Melissa Y.): "I suggest you just check the website every now and then. You can try to call or chat next week. Maybe we will have updates by then."
07/19/2008 01:44:44PM Matthew: "Please, someone must know if this option is returning or not?"
    07/19/2008 01:44:51PM Agent (Melissa Y.): "I'm really sorry Matthew."
07/19/2008 01:45:43PM Agent (Melissa Y.): "Unfortunately Matthew, we cannot assist you with that. We really do not have any information regarding that right now."
07/19/2008 01:46:37PM Matthew: "ok...it's just a little hard for me to believe that a change like that was made and nobody knows why"
07/19/2008 01:47:59PM Agent (Melissa Y.): "I'm really sorry Matthew. I do not have the resources to answer that issue."
07/19/2008 01:48:29PM Matthew: "there must be someone who does?"

Sorry about the formatting...It's a little hard to read, but basically HP is being very sneaky about this. I can't get them to tell me either way if the graphics card has been removed permanently or if it's coming back. I don't know if i should be waiting for it to come back or if I should go shopping elsewhere.

What do you guys think? Has anyone else tried contacting them about this? If so, post your chats so we can figure this out. Thanks

I know..seriously. I researched for months and then when I found out the dv5t was coming, I waited for it's release. Then, when I'm ready to order it they pull a stunt like this. It's absolute nonsense. They could at least tell me us for certain if they're bringing it back or not. I'm sure someone there knows...

    @mnp2005:

Yes this is the issue with larger corp's either they don't know who knows or they are "not allowed" to find you that info as their time spent will not be logged...

try searching for some public relations ppl in HP and blast them with an email, with a link here...

you'll find them using your friend google

    that might work

I think that the CS is simply ignorant on this issue. I doubt we will get any real answers unless we get a hold of someone 'more connected'.

I'm not sure, unfortunately. I will see if we have any contacts with HP that have more comprehensive information.

i called them and asked if i can order it with a 9600m gt, and the guy had no idea it was an option. (he was a really nice guy though) he went and asked his boss ,and said they know the 9600m gt isnt there anymore, and that's all they know. they've sent it up to whoever runs the website, but that's all they've done.

I've just found a page where you can contact the CEO of HP Mark Hurd.

    http://www.hp.com/hpinfo/execteam/email/hurd/index.html

    It does say:
Maybe someone shold send him an email about the 9600GT on the DV5t.
You might actually get some answers.

You can't blame the CS though . . . they are only trained to give out the information available to them. If info like why the 9600M-GT is gone is not given to them, then they won't know. Also, the only way they can take your money is if you consent to give it to them. Companies are not out to screw you - they're out to do business.

Well, if one company won't suit your needs, there are others that will.

Call CS, and tell them you have a issue with HP Policy. You'll likely get escalated to a higher department where you can let it all out there, or thats how it works for most places....

Well...i ran out of time and had to decide on a laptop last night. Since I had been researching for so long, I had narrowed it down to HP only. I was looking around at their other options and the dv7t had everything I wanted, was the same price after all my upgrades (only like 20$ more), and it's only 1.6" bigger. So, I decided to go for it. Here are my specs:

HP Pavilion Entertainment dv7t customizable Notebook PC

    * Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (32-bit)
    * Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T9600 (2.8 GHz)
    * 17.0" diagonal WSXGA+ High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1680 x 1050)
    * FREE Upgrade to 3GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm) from 2GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    * 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT
    * HP Imprint Finish (Mesh) + Microphone + Webcam
    * Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100AGN
    * No High speed 56K modem port
    * FREE Upgrade to 320GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
    * LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW with Double Layer Support
    * No TV Tuner w/remote control
    * 8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
    * Microsoft(R) Works 9.0
    * HP Color Matching Keyboard
    * HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope

Total came out to be $1,910.81 after my student discount and taxes ($145! :( )were applied. Everything seems ok now, i'm just happy i got that processor and the graphics card I wanted. My only question now is: Where do i get the drivers for xp??

    Can you believe this?!
Proof that the HP staff don't have a clue of whats going on

Hi Derrick! My name is Jill. How are you doing today?

    10:19:42 AM CustomerDerrick
    good and you?

    10:20:03 AM AgentJill
    I'm doing great. Thank you.

    10:20:08 AM AgentJill
How may I assist you today?

    10:20:35 AM CustomerDerrick
I have been having problems getting decent answers out of HP about the 9600M GT graphics card

    10:21:18 AM AgentJill
Are there any specific information that you need regarding this graphics card?

    10:22:19 AM CustomerDerrick
Why has it been taken out of the customize sheet? No one seems to know and I feel it is your responsibility to let people know why something has been taken away without any notice?

    10:24:18 AM AgentJill
Since this graphics card is very popular, HP, unfortunately, has run of stocks for this graphics card model.

    10:24:41 AM CustomerDerrick
    will it be replenished?

    10:25:23 AM AgentJill
As of this time, we still have not received any advice when will this become available.

    10:25:56 AM CustomerDerrick
I understand but I need to know whether or not you will be recieving more stock?

    10:27:27 AM AgentJill
Regrettably, we here at chat support do not have information if they will be ordering more stock for this graphics card model.

    10:28:23 AM AgentJill
NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS is as good as 9600M GT, as from what I have heard.

    10:28:32 AM CustomerDerrick
The reason I ask is because I need to know whether to wait until stock arrives or to shop elsewhere. Who can I contact that will know? Surely someone in the company must know because this is ridiculous that not one person can give me a straight answer

    10:28:56 AM CustomerDerrick
And NO the 9200M GS is not nearly as good

    10:29:27 AM AgentJill
We do have enewsletter that comes twice a month.

    10:29:35 AM CustomerDerrick
This makes me wonder at the competence level of the staff that i'm being reffered to

    10:29:46 AM AgentJill
Would you like to sign up for this enewsletter.

    10:30:01 AM AgentJill
You will get the latest information regarding our products and promotions.

    10:30:57 AM CustomerDerrick
You should include in the newsletter that HP employs monkeys to work in their customer support such as yourself

    10:31:02 AM CustomerDerrick

They still have the 320GB 5400RPM HDD. It has a higher capacity and it should be just as fast or even faster than the 160GB 7200RPM drive.

    AMG Said:
haha, and first of all hahaha...

ok so what their saying is... that when they did offer the 9600, they knowingly were selling an equal card for 100 USD more?

or, they have no clue as to what a video card really is.

sometimes i wonder if these are just automatited responses, i read their responses, and i picture them with a smile on their face, bobbing there head back and forth, and just saying, h-p h-p h-p h-p h-p h-p h-p h-p...
