880/1000 stable overclock. P1854 3dmark11 and Ultra High settings in Skyrim with 25-33 fps (pretty playable to me). My temps don't get past 82c while gaming. Not sure what the fan is doing... I'm sure if I lowered my resolution I'd get better fps but I don't see a reason to. Only issue I've had was while running the stress test for ATI tool, when I abort the artifact scan (which doesn't detect artifacts for over 30 min) and it switches to the FPS test, the driver crashes. I think that may have something to do with ATI tool itself. I'm going to try another stress test to confirm later today.

I keep crashing -
i was playing bf3 on a 1080p tv using laptop 6770m gpu, no overclock ,jst base setting 750/800(done oc earlier),using cooler master notepal L1, using coolsense coolest mode , then also my gpu temp had reached to 94 C .Please tell me what to do ?

^ Disabling TurboBoost will help.
-
I can't find the cfg file.
-
-
don´t get the 2gb version .. i can`t overlcock the ram more than 850 mhz ... the core goes up to 930 with overvolt .. thats crazy ... but more mhz on the ram would be rockin .... -.-
edit .... disabled turbo boost by selecting silent mode in coolsense ... out of the sudden im running 870/1000 stable ... seems so ! -
No overvolting with Catalyst 12.6 from the AMD website
-
Have u enabled MSI Afterburner extended overclocking?
-
Yes I've proceeded to do that, no overvolting with MSI Afterburner or Saphire TRIXX.
-
Do you have AMD Overdrive in your CCC now? If no, that mean /xcl failed. Try do it again.
Sapphire Trixx 4.30? -
I once had AMD Overdrive and it crashed my laptop straight away, tried to re-install it but I had error 1721.
Yes, Sapphire TRIXX 4.30. -
What exactly u tried to reinstall?
-
I tried to re-install AMD Overdrive but it gives me error 1721, then rolls back the install and nothing happens.
-
It come preinstalled with Catalyst Control Center.. you just need to run MSI Afterburner extended overclocking and reboot your system. After that you can see Overdrive in CCC. Only work in Fixed switching.
-
I have done so by copying the commands in the tutorial, I've checked that its on fixed mode and I still can't see Overdrive in CCC
-
Can you check your driver version in CCC?
-
Driver Packaging Version 8.98-120522a-139735E-ATI
Catalyst Version 12.6
Provider Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
2D Driver Version 8.01.01.1253
Direct3D Version 9.14.10.0920
OpenGL Version 6.14.10.11733
Catalyst Control Center Version 2012.0522.2128.36590
That's all I could find in Catalyst. -
I'm out of ideas.
Try do /rcl and follow by /xcl after reboot. reboot again when prompt. -
I'll try that once I wake up, its 3:34AM over here, bed time for me!
-
lol. bed time for me too.. its 2.20am over here.
-
ok I followed the guide... but when I still open msi after burner it still only gives me core clock at 725 max with the slider, and 800 memory clock...
-
hp dv6 6173cl
still cannot get the voltage to change in 12.6 either.
I had to install overdrive it did not come preinstalled
I can overclock normally just want to change voltage.
By the way what are you talking about with abbreviations are confusing
/rcl - No clue what that means
/xcl - No clue what that means -
darxide_sorcerer Notebook Deity
/xcl stands for e Xtend Clock Limits and is a switch you use with MSIAfterburner.exe to enable extended overclocking past AMD CCC's limits. similarly, /rcl stands for reset Clock Limits.
-
It won't work if u're using dynamic switching.. are you? And no, you don't need to install AMD Overdrive... seriously.
-
I've done nothing except what was in the tutorial and still cannot change voltage.
I can overclock just fine memory and core.
I'm in fixed mode
12.6 New install and cannot find AMD overdrive still.
I CAN overclock just fine so I did the /xcl right since overclocking works fine.
Never used amd overdrive and never had to deal with it so I know nothing about it. -
Can u change the voltage with latest Sapphire Trixx?
-
The file in the first page guise to download does not work. Any one have another link?
-
Here u go.. MSI Afterburner
-
Thanks!! -
Ok i have a problem now with overclocking. Inside the MSI application, once I set the core and memory sliders to my desired settings and click apply, the hardware monitor inisde the MSI application does not change.
For example, If I change the core clock from 725mhz to 750mhz and click apply, it still shows it clocked at 725mhz in the hardware monitor screen.
Now it didnt do this when i first installed it. Since then I troubleshooted by shutting down the computer, killing the MSI app, and even uninstalling it and re installing it. No luck
What should I do?
Thanks!! -
Which driver version u currently using?
-
How do I check that?
-
1. Catalyst Control Center>Information>Software
2. Dxdiag>Display tab
3. press Win+R>Type "msinfo32" and press enter>Navigate to Component>Display>Check driver version for AMD GPU
4. Device Manager>Right click on AMD GPU>Properties>Driver Tab
5. Download and run GPU-Z
6. Download and run GPU-Cap-Viewer -
Btw, is your PowerPlay disabled? If yes, enable it back.
-
The driver version for my AMD GPU is 8.882.2.3000
And sorry but I have no idea what power play is lol. -
So.. did you edit MSIAfterburner.cfg and enable Unofficial Overclocking?
-
Yeah I edited the .cfg file
-
Hi all
I have a Pavilion dv6 with a 1gb 6770m. How can i increase the voltage on the gpu from 1050mv to 1055mv in leshcat catalyst 13.1 I am using sapphire trixx and was able to do it on the old hp drivers. Please help or at least point me in the right direction.
shot! -
Code:c:\Program Files (x86)\MSI Afterburner\MSIAfterburner.exe /xcl

Don't know if anyone is still reading this thread...
I recently OC'd to 850/900 and saw some issues in a couple of games:
1) I got a blue screen that mentioned a display driver error while playing Mechwarrior Online
2) I was getting a black screen for about 10 seconds while playing DCS World. Then the game would come back, then a 10 second black screen a few minutes later, etc...
I did what you're not supposed to do and just used the OC settings from the first post of this thread, instead of slowing ramping up and testing. I'm going to go back and do it the right way, but I wanted to know if the issues I saw are due to CPU overclocking, GPU overclocking, or possibly either one. That way I know how to make adjustments.
Thanks! -
-what drivers are you running
-what are your temperatures (GPU AND CPU, they share one cooling system)
-are you running stock voltages or did you ramp them up too
-do you have the original hp software or did you update it (if updated, it bugs out and deletes cool sense, which can lead to immense heat buildups)
To show both gpu and cpu in the on screen display, get hwinfo, run it in sensors only mode, go to config, search for cpu temps in the list, find "cpu max", click on it.
Klick on "show" in the "riva tuner osd" tab (afterburner has to be running!)
repeat this for "cpu package" -
I didn't get good baseline temps with my overclocked settings that were causing the errors. I do occasionally monitor temps with CPUID, and didn't see anything that looked much higher than what I normally see. Since I'm starting this process over, I downloaded Prime95 and FurMark and got baseline temps for the stock clocks. Right now I'm at 89C for the CPU after 15 min of Prime95 and 80C for the GPU after 5 minutes of FurMark. This is pretty consistent with what I see when gaming. These temps are without my Cooler Master U2, which usually helps bring things down a few degrees. I'm not planning on adjusting voltages at all; I don't like the risk/reward there.
I do have the most "up to date" HP software which has resulted in me losing Cool Sense. Should I roll back? To what version? Since I always gamed in "Performance Mode" (which was the hottest mode), I assumed that there would be no difference with Cool Sense installed or not. If there is still a benefit to have Cool Sense installed, I'm willing to roll back to an older version.
Anyway, my plan for now (after getting some additional advice on another forum) is to ramp up clock speeds by 25mhz, check in Prime95 and FurMark, and then check game performance. This could take me a while, since I don't consistently game every day.
Any other thoughts/advice from those of you with the same/similar laptop?
Thanks!
edit - is this the best way to get CoolSense back? http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02638953&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en#N450 -
Be sure to disable upgrades afterwards. Since you should already have all driverupdates installed and I doubt that HP will bring any more patches, running the old version should not have any disadvantages for you.
And coolsense is definitely recommended, for me the coolest mode gives an average of 10°C less on both GPU and CPU under load compared to performance mode.
If you are concerned about loosing your turbo boost (which you won`t miss in most games, only the more tactical/strategy based ones like CivV or Anno 1404 require that much processor power) you can run coolest mode and enable it manually with this program:
Downloads | Tech|Inferno
All you need to do is check the multiplier box and set it to turbo, the click turn on.
You now have max performance and max cooling (the way HP should have set it in the first place...)
About your drivers, I would recommend using the ones provided here:
leshcatlabs.net ← Keeping it Simple. Ads free.
since the HP drivers are 2 years old. You can use the 13.4, which are guaranteed to be stable, or just get the newest 13.6beta2 ones, they work fine for me.
be sure to follow the instructions for uninstalling the old ones and checking your intel HD version from here:
UnifL Manual
I hope this was helpful to you.
Ben -
The games I do play (FSX, DCS World, other flight sims...) do tend to be CPU intensive. In the past, I definitely needed CoolSense to be in performance mode to get acceptable performance out of those games. I will look into Tech Inferno to see if I can get the best of both worlds.
And thanks for the links to the graphics drivers. I was under the impression I would only be able to use whatever CCC HP pushed out to me and that having switchable graphics would cause issues if I tried to upgrade to newer ones. But it sounds like that may not be the case.
 -
However, I found that my CPU temp with "Coolest Mode" and Turbo Boost enable via Throttle Stop was the same as simply leaving the laptop in "Performance Mode". The way I use my laptop, I don't think Cool Sense will really do much for me anymore. I'm either just surfing the internet (which doesn't cause heat issues) or I'm gaming and will need to have Turbo Boost enabled, which gives me 90C no matter how I set Cool Sense.
Regarding the driver updates, before I go through that effort, I'm just curious what noticeable differences I might see. Should I expect to see a performance increase?
Thanks again for your help! -
F.e. Skyrim had a performance increase of about 35% after they optimized their drivers if i recall correctly.
It may depend on the games you play though, not everything gets enough attention for AMD to justify a driverupdate, but the major releases do.
Myself i noticed a 5fps increase in borderlands2 with the newest drivers, not bad for nothing but a software update. -
One question - now that I have the 13.4 WHQL drivers installed, is there any reason to keep the "Catalyst 13.4 WHQL UnifL v2 Installer" application installed on my system? I'll keep Catalyst installed, obviously, and Driver Fusion in case I want to upgrade to 13.6 or whatever later. But do I need the 13.4 installer program still?
Thanks! -
No, you don't need the installer. (C:\drivers? as I remember)

Hello everyone.
I've overlocked my HP and got this result in 3DMark 11:
Standard Clock -- P1587
Overclock Core:850 Memory:950 -- P1835 (picco 83°)
Overclock Core:840 Memory:1000 -- P1837 (picco 85°)
Overclock Core:840 Memory:950 -- P1858 <----------------( I Don't understand this, why i had a better result with less Mhr? the animation in the test was even less fast)
