How long does the computer stay "in production"?

Just ordered my Envy 14 Beats Edition today. It has an estimated ship date of October 29. Going to put my Envy 15 on ebay.
Is there anyway we can order the radiance LCD separately? It might be too much of an adjustment for me to go from 1920x1080 on the Envy 15 to 1366x768 on the Envy 14. -
I went to my local Staples today and took a look at the Envy 14. I am even more excited about getting one. I can hardly wait until mine is shipped.
-
Where are you located? I didnt know that Staples carried these in store?
-
I just got my Envy and I'm completely in love
Haven't really gotten used to it yet but that will only be a matter of time, I love the looks and the feel of it and a friend who went to pick it up with me feels the same. -
I am located in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. I didn't know they carried them either. I was just browsing the laptops and there it was.
-
Wow. Amazon is not ftw. E14 bumped from $945 to $983 to $1050. Just in time for the holidays, huh/eh/hm/hah? Shady.
Wonder if they honored ppl's purchase of the $945 version? (I got some amazon bitterness, if you wanna sit around to hear my rant lol). -
Just got update today. My ENVY 14 will be shipped from Shanghai today! Horay!!! I placed order on Sept 28th and I might be in the last batch order for the radiance LED LCD option! Just feel lucky!
-
When'd you order?
-
Wow! I ordered my E14 on October 12 and I got a email this morning saying that it has shipped. My estimated delivery is the 26th. I am so excited.
-
Ordered my Beats Edition on the 14th, still in production with a ship date of the 28th.
Seems a bit long, but assuming the trend of everything getting done sooner happens, i'd get it before the months end.
But we all know what happens when you assume
i5 560m (2.6 processor), 4gb ram, 640gb HDD. I think at a later date I'll purchase a radiance display and install it myself, can't say for sure. I'm planning on using mine for music production/DJ'ing and light gaming.
I don't think I need as much real-estate but with as much as I'm investing in this thing it may be worth it in the long run. -
Do the manuals that come with the envy list how to take apart/replace the LCD?
-
Probably not, but usually the .pdf ones you can download do. That's how I've gone about dis-assembling any other laptop I've owned.
-
I received slice 6-cell battery for my ENVY 14 yesterday.
There are four black plastic sittings on the back of the battery in each corner. However one is missing. Some careless packager must missed it! Let's hope the ENVY 14, which assembled in Shanghai, CHINA, has better QA process.
BTW, how to check bad pixels? Any free software available ?
-
I just found out that there was never a high resolution option for the Beats edition. I think I'm just going to return the laptop. Since I use my laptop almost 100% at home the benefits of the Envy 14 aren't useful to me.
If they didn't have ridiculous sales tax in NY, I'd buy a MBP 15. -
I was considering that, too. Is there a place that has the Radiance or an alternative hi res display for a 14.5 screen right now? I looked a few days ago and only found the 1366 res.
I ordered on the same day as you (I cancelled my Oct 13 order and re-ordered with better specs on Oct 14)
-
As it was just said, Beats edition never had an option for an HD display. Only reason I am buying the Beats edition is I really cannot stand the paisley pattern on the regular Envy.
I am assuming that at some point, HP will start selling Radiance displays again, the demand was too high for them to not find another company to buy from.
There is a possibility that on eBay or some other place you can pick up an after market Radiance display and try installing it. Otherwise you'll have to wait for HP to find another manufacturer of HD displays and order it from their parts center.
Personally, the 16x9 display isn't a selling point for me. Sure, it would be nice as hell to have it, but I'm upgrading from an old, old DV series with 1280x800 resolution. So really anything is better than what I'm used to. -
The main problem with planning on upgrading the LCD on the beats edition later on is that since HP never had a high resolution option to begin with for the beats edition and it's a different part than the non-beats version, the likelihood of there being a higher resolution beats edition lcd is pretty low.
My order hasn't shipped yet, but I'm almost positive that I'll be returning it. I'll leave final judgement when I actually get to use it, but I think it'll be really hard for me to go from 1920x1080 to 1366x768. It'll feel as if I'm using a geriatric's computer. -
If you're main use is going to be at home, I'd imagine you'd have it docked anyway. But I don't know what your plan for usage is.
And are you sure the LCD's are different from the standard E14 and the BE?
I would assume that HP would use the same 14.5" 1366x768 screen in each system? So why would it be out of question to just use the same 16x9 display that they put into the E14? -
I use my laptop at home but I travel a lot so, while the battery life isn't important to me, portability is and I still need a decent screen space to get work done.
Also, I'm almost certain that the LCD you can order from HP includes the whole top lid. So you wouldn't be able to just order the LCD radiance for the regular Envy and put it on the beats edition. Well, you would, but it'd look like some kind of franken-notebook.
There's also no guarantee that we'll be able to buy a high resolution option for the beats edition at a later date. In which case you're stuck with what you ordered. -
Has anyone here ever bought a refurbished PC?
I found two offers on ebay: one is a refurbished HP ENvy 14: i5-450M, dual core processor, 4GB DDR3, 500 GB 7200RPM SATA HDD, ATI 5650, 1600*900 display, 90 days warranty (full warranty supposedly purchasable)
The other is a "said" new HP Envy 14 (still in box, supposedly) pre-configured: i5-450M, dual core processor, 8GB DDR3 (which I think is a bit much but ok), 160GB SSD (Intel), ATI 5650, 1600*900 display, with warranty and support.
So should I trust the refurbisehd or the "new" [purchased on 9.24.10] (could be potentially faulty)?
I'd appreciate suggestions.... -
You sure? I feel like if your just order the screen they aren't going to send you a whole lid. I could be wrong but IDK. Even still, couldn't you just pry the lid apart and take the screen out and plop it in the BE?
Either way, the Radiance display wasn't really a HUGE selling point for me. It's sure nice, I saw a E14 at Bestbuy with one and put it next to a MBP and was more impressed by the E14.
As I said, I just really can't stand that floral pattern that comes on the E14. I just love the color scheme of the BE and I got mine with some 200$ coupon I found on the internet, So I ended up spending like $50~ for a custom look, which from what I've read is 10x better in person than in photos.
Also BE supposedly has better temps because of the extra thickness that it has for some unknown reason. -
@Swailly
I'm always REALLY sketched out about refurbs.
I'd go with the new one assuming that the warranty you mention is the HP 2 year warranty.
Be warned though, if something goes wrong (according to many horror stories), people have shipped their Radiance E14's to HP only to get a Brightview back. -
I know the risk. That's why I'm not in a rush. But I'm considering my options. The new one seller is still to tell me more about the warranty but appears (and is technically) credible.
He says it was his dream PC that he also bought on ebay but he recived some bad job news so he can no longer afford to keep it. And then just describes in surprisingly even more detail than HP themselves.
My 1st option is still waiting for my cousin in Germany to give a signal and 2nd to consider a Vaio EB. -
EB was my verrrry close 2nd to the envy. I got to handle one right after I played with an Envy and the Envy's build/style just blew it away. Not a bad lappy at all though, I guess my view on it was tainted after handling the E14. My friend has one and swears by it.
-
This might be destiny! Just great that you've handled a Vaio EB. I've been dying to ask someone (not from the Vaio forum) how good the PC is. I'm mostly interested in the display and audio quality as it's totally configurable in the UK. And would cost me less as it stands. And it's official battery life is below average.
They offer the choice to upgrade from a 1366*768 screen to a 1920*1080 HD screen. Is it as good as the radiance? Or at least quality? -
ii have the same questions
-
I can't really give you an in-depth review of it.
My take on the EB was that it was a nice laptop. Build quality was lacking in comparison to the E14, but if you're looking for a fair price on a decent laptop, you really can't do wrong with it.
I can't give you a good comparison on the HD EB screen and the Radiance display. I didn't get to compare them side-by-side. IMO though, the Radiance gave an overall clear/crisp picture for the few minutes that I browsed Youtube and watched some HD videos.
I'd imagine that the HD display of the EB would be excellent in any given situation. I mean...come on its a 1080p display. MKV files would probably look delicious.
If you don't have any qualms with plastic laptops (hence the reason I'm purchasing an E14) and you're doubting the Envy. Check out the EB, I really can't speak anything bad about it from the few minutes that I was able to play with it. -
Waiting for my refurb to arrive so until then I wont know if its a lemon or not.
Could toss in a 3 year Care Pack warranty and a x25-m SSD and it would still be less money than our local rip-off prices. -
I got my Envy today! That was quick. I was not expecting it until next week. I think I am going to do an unboxing. But first, I have to go get a haircut.
-
^hey when did you order? And when was your eta?
ETA: Nevermind I looked back in this thread, I must have missed it earlier..
I ordered my envy 14 on the October 14, had a ship date of the 28 but i got an shipping email around midnight last night.
I with standard shipping i'm hoping that i get my laptop in a few days it's in AK right now.
-
Luckyyyyyy
I ordered mine same day and I haven't gotten anything yet
I'm hoping I get some good news today though. -
Wooo!
My Envy was built/shipped to Alaska on the 26th. Left Alaska last night and is en route to my door now. Considering it's build date was the 28th, I'm pretty stoked.
I live in PA too, made it across the country in 1 day, and I ordered with standard shipping. -
Great!! I rec'd mine Monday and I thought i posted about that, but I must not have hit send
I have the i5 M460 and 6BG RAM this system isn't as snappy as I thought it should be, and this is before I installed my usual RAM hogging programs--digsby, tweetdeck, and a Chrome based browser-SR Iron in addition to launchy..I might do a clean install in the near future and I'm having issues connected my bluetooth headsets I keep getting the error message "this operation failed to initialize" I'm gonna do a search around here to figure out what the issue is.. -
supposedly mine is in production till nov 11 =(
-
Do a clean install. Right when I got my Envy with i5 460 and 4gb ram I was initially disappointed at how laggy it was. I did a clean install right after and its a night and day difference. HP had so much junk on there with their stardock crap and their "help" software.
-
Yes Yes YES!!!!! Just received my confirmation e-mail... I'm officially a quasi-owner!
I'm sooooo glad right now. I haven't been this excited for a purchase in ages. I'd like give a special shout out to aetsch for giving out the tip to try the HP Business Outlet. I managed to score a pretty impressive deal complete with Radiance and 160 GB SSD. So again thanks!
So as tradition mandates my full specs: i5 450M 2.4GHz 160 GB SSD 4GB 1600*900 screen
-
How much did your system cost you, from the HP Business Outlet?
-
How do I do a clean install?
-
Ordered mine the 28th with the $300 coupon, CTO, says will ship the 8th.... can't wait~!
-
I ordered mine nov 23 with build date on dec 8th and recieved it today. 7 days before
-
ordered mine from HP store, but it still says "Pending" on my paypal... gay >_<
-
New coupon code posted: NB1269
Good for $300 off customized HP Envy 14 $1,299 or greater
Believe it excludes HP Envy 17
Expired 12/15 or when 675 are redeemed, whichever happens first
Just used the coupon to purchase my customized Envy so it works! -
I just tried it at HP.com for fun, and yeah, it does not work on the Envy 17 3D
-
you guys and your damn coupons!
In Australia you can't configure ANY of the envy laptops
QQ moar lol -
Thanks for the post!
This also works for the beats edition!
Did you see that 2 day shipping is also free today( even without the coupon)?
Oh and this doesn't work with HPA -
Nothing ever works in HPA ha-ha, I would order through Hp but you can't customize the machine which is a real bummer because they only offer the E14 and E14B with a i7, so Im just going to JB-hifi and look around, because they have the i5.
If I pick one up I'll do a unboxing/review video if you guys want. I'll also put in a comparison on 1300x700 or whatever it is. Im typing on a 15.6" laptop now with a 1280x800 res, so yea lol. -
Same here in Japan. No coupons and you can only configure the amount of RAM, version of Windows 7, warranty length and add/delete the slice battery. I wish HP would allow more configuration options, as I probably would have gone with the i5 instead of the i7 for more battery life.
-
What's the better deal overall?
$300 off via HP coupon (i5-580, 6gb ram) $999+tax, or E14-1110nr for $930 no tax+FS at amazon.com (i5-460m, 4gb ram)? Which is better bang for the buck? -
I say the amazon one. The i5 460m is more than enough. 4gb ram is plently also.
