I say the i5 580 with 6gb ram, its better bang for your back sure it maybe 50 - 100$ more the 580 is newer technology and more ram is a plus if you use intensive programs or like to have many programs open at the same time.

 

or you can get the i5 580m 6gb, call HP and complain and now you have it for $899

 

I posted this in the other thread, but I'll ask this question again because I urgently need an answer:

Have any of you guys noticed that it might be a bad idea to have 6gb of ram instead of 4 or even 8 on the envy. Hp is probably going to use a 4 + 2 gb configuration which takes out dual channel operation. Unless they're going to use 3 + 3...Can anyone confirm this???

 

yes its a 4+2 so no dual channel...dont think its that much of a difference anyways for what I do, but if you really want dual channel then yea you'll need 4 or 8gb

Ordered an Envy 14 Beats Edition today (really need to have a black laptop). Only upgrade from the base package was and i5 580M processor and the extra SLIM battery.

There is a $500 coupon right now (NB375945, expires 1/9) on any Envy 14 if you configure over $1399. Mine came in just over $1000 after tax.

I was bummed that there was no more radiance option because I've heard good things, but I think I'll live with it since I've been on a 1280x800 for years.

Time to put my Vostro 1400 out to pasture (i.e. give to parents) after many good years.

 

Well, there seems to be some delay and mine is supposedly shipping on the 12th instead of the 5th, no explanation for the delay, except some stuff about parts availability. Boooo.

i7-720qm, 750gb, 4gb single dimm, so im not sure if something is going on over there, or if my parts specifically are outta stock or if everyone is just gallivanting around at CES

 

I got the 580m, 500gb, 4gb single DIMM and it doesn't look like it'll ship today (estimated for today), and I rad in a another thread that they had a screen replacement under warranty which was just delayed until the 21st..so maybe its the LCD's

Just got mine delivered at my home, but i am still at work.

I ordered it on January 2 using a $500 coupon off a $1399 setup, so I had to upgrade some components : I put an i7-720, a 640 gb HDD and 6gb RAM.
Later i discovered that the i7 doesnt have integrated graphics (which was a major selling point for me) and that the 6 gb disables Dual Channel memory.

I am torn between opening it or call HP and bargain my way to an i5. Would HP be open to exchange it for an i5 and still retain part of my coupon ?\

It has been a mixed bag. I just recently moved and for some reason microsoft's payment system didn't like my new address, and apprently (they don't tell you this) everytime a payment issue occurs, you cannot attempt to repurchase for 48 hours. I attempted repurchase several times, etc etc

I called them twice, they told me there was nothing they could do about it, I would have to wait a few days to attempt the payment.

I got fed up (I need the laptop for programming desperately soon since I'm in the middle of classes) and bought the beats edition for 1022. With the 480m, 7200 rpm harddrive, which I will be taking out, and 6 gb ram. More than I had intended to pay, but at least the specs were better given the money.

 

Was about to buy the Evy 14 today but then realized it's out of stock. Hopefully it will come back; if not, oh well.

no more coupons for the Envy 14 on the HP website..only small $25 coupons..I actually received my beats edition today ,pretty happy with it. Just to confirm, it still does come with the slim-fit 90W power adapter, the HP rep told me that it only comes with the Beats Editions that include the Solo headphones, but it comes with all beats edition Envy 14's

if anyone wants to buy it on the microsoft store, i would buy it now. I called in about 2 hours ago and the sales rep said they are taking the offer down tonight and they only have a few (3 or 4 is what he said, but there could be more idk) left!

AND you may have to call in to get the $799 deal because at the last step before it charged to my credit card, I noticed it was the original price $1049, and i had to call the microsoft store to get the discount.

 

That is because they have wonky sales software. If you put in anything incorrectly for your billing/shipping addresses, forgot to leave your cell phone number, put your cellphone number in a single block without spaces, then the software will reprompt you for that information and remove your discount.

 

My Envy 14 Beats Edition was also delayed from the 12th to the 20th. Hope its the only delay

I just bought an hp envy 14 beats edition but in the purchase I made a mistake.

I selected i5-580M processor but kept graphic card as it was:
1 GB ATI 5650 - For Quad core processors instead of the switchable dual core processor graphic card.

I called HP but they said to cancel the order and re-order again. Should I do that or wait until I get the laptop and see if it is switchable or not? If not, then exchange it?

I would think the engineers who would build my laptop would know to put that graphic card but I am not sure.

 

is there really difference between the 2 graphics cards? If the only difference is the switcheable graphics then im sure u can easily get it by updating the drivers

I actually ordered before the $500 came out when there was just a $200 coupon out. jan 13th to be exact. Weird thing is my build date was feb 2.
Called hp and they of course couldn't tell me why much less understand what i was asking (darned outsourced support). So when someone who ordered after me gets theirs i'll call and complain and they will care less.

I recieved mine in 7 days exactly when i ordered in nov. it was like a week before my build date.

 

i originaly ordered an i7 on january 2nd using a 500 coupon. Received it on the 13th.
I had remorse about it as I found out in the meanwhile that it didnt have integrated graphics and that the battery life was short. However it wasnt enough of a drawback to return it, so I was going to keep it.

However, 2 days after i got it, the radiance came back as well as another $500 coupon. So I ordered an i5 + radiance right away, called HP and returned the i7. They didnt make a fuss about it as they noticed my other order.
