Exactly. And there is some rumor that's not just limited to the Sandy Bridge.

No offense man but every single post

Wait so whats the deal with this heating issue. Is it a laptop cooling design flaw or a mobo/cpu flaw? Everyday goes by and I'm regretting ever purchasing this laptop. I don't mind the poor battery life but if theres other issues that's gonna keep causing problems I'm thinking about just returning it or selling it.
-
Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
I don't know how you got this but the Intel fiasco is limited to Sandy Bridge CHIPSETS. None of the CPU's from both Clarksfield or Sandy Bridge are affected. So I am going to agree with spencerp saying that this is total... -
If you have the envy 14 (im guessing so since it's a 14 thread) you shouldn't have any heating problems without doing anything crazy (i'm not aware of any at least). It could be a problem specific to your computer. I'm not very experienced in this field but try downloading hwmonitor. It will tell you the temps for each piece of hardware.
If you are having bad problems and are within the 21 day return time why not just get a new one? unless of course you got the radiance and then you need to figure out another route. -
Oh no I don't have it yet. I'm in the group of people that ordered on 1-15 and ended up being delayed to 2-15. I'm annoyed because after reading about all the i7 Envy's no one seems to say anything positive about it and this current delay by HP is due to some type of flaw with the i7 at least according to the CSR's I've talked to.
What makes it worse is that HP doesn't even let you change the order once it goes to the factor. I don't see how its impossible to do that especially considering the situation people are in now. It's not like the computer is built only by robots. People obviously handle the laptops and assemble them so it wouldn't be to difficult too go tap on their shoulder and give them a new order list. They make it seem like the order is sent to some magical land where no one knows what happens. -
The only complaint i've heard about the i7 is battery life.
Also, if you are willing to stay on the phone for a long time, not take no for an answer, talk to several reps you can cancel your order and even have it refunded the next day. I actually did this. It took a long time on the phone but i was determined and i get what i shoot for if there is a speck of possibility.
EDIT: I just realized you said you ordered on the 15th so you ordered the radiance which means you will be having to get used to the i7. -
China.
Customer service can apparently only communicate with the factory via carrier pigeon. -
I had heard they were holding all the i7 cores back until intel could do a completely check of the line(to see if any issues present in pre-sandy bridge chips). Its not a recall, but a hold. At least, that's what I've heard.
Note: this is going on second hand info from a different manufacture, so take it with a gain of salt. -
Hahahaha!
Yea HP doesn't even care if I cancel the order at this point. I figure I've gone this far I might as well see what the laptop is like before I decide what to do with it. I was considering buying a slice battery to at least get like 5hrs out of it. -
That makes no sense this late in a chip's cycle. If it were true and it spanned multiple manufacturers you would hear about it on engadget/gizmodo, etc pretty quickly. Also, this delay seems specific to Envy models. I'm fairly certain I could order any other HP notebook with an i7 and have it in my hands in a week.
The simplest explanation is usually the correct one. Obviously HP will be updating the Envy line to SB chips soon-ish. They are probably buying less parts to build the current models while the demand remains the same, resulting in these ridiculous delays.
I haven't read anyone else saying their Envy has been delayed a 3rd time. I fear I may be the first come this Friday. If that is the case I plan to cancel and already have a lengthy email ready for people above the customer service department and other public forums. This is by far the poorest customer service I have had to endure anywhere in the tech industry. -
Yea I plan on reporting my ordeal to BBB if it gets delayed again. As well as a harshly worded letter to the CEO detailing how fantastically HP has failed.
-
Here to tell you, it is likely not the i7. I have the i5 on order from January build date of the 2nd, and it still says a build date of the 2nd. Hp has not been very helpful.
-
I'm debating returning my Envy 14. The track pad is sooo bad! I paid $1033 and even with the $500 discount I still feel as If I overpaid considering some people got theirs for $700. The Radiance is really the only thing that i'm satisfied with. Would HP offer me a discount or account credit if I wanted to return it?
-
sometimes they offer you $50 back..if you get lucky they offer you $100
-
Sweet merciful moses it finally shipped. Mine was an i7 so hopefully the rest of you will be getting your notifications if you haven't already. Weeee.
-
I also got my envy 14 i7 shipped today!!! I am so hap[py, although I was hoping for a second delay so I can get that 10% back, haaha. Anyway, it says it will be here by Feb. 16th.
-
You guys are so lucky! I honestly think HP is just gonna send me a plastic cut out of my Envy.
-
WOW...it shipped today!!!!!!!! I ordered an i5 with radiance on the 16th, got the 15% off my next puchase email (for the "delay"), lost all hope even though it was still "in production" with a ship date of 1 Feb, check these forums for weeks only to see more bad news, and was then saw that I now have a tracking number and est delivery date of 16 Feb. Yay!!
Now here's to hoping I have no major issues (especially with the screen) once it arrives.
Don't fret too much about the trackpad. When I first got the Envy 15, I hated the trackpad as well. But when you tweak some of the sensitivity and scroll settings (in the advanced menus), you can easily get it to your liking. All in all, it took me about a week to get used to the new trackpad. But don't forget to update to the most current driver (a new one just came out this week for the Envy 15 and I think the 14's use the same trackpad). -
Gratz to all you that are getting your soon. I ordered mine a week ago...so 3 more weeks to go.....bah...
-
Night Racer, I'm only two weeks away from my ship day, so I'll tell you what. If mine gets delayed you are more than welcome to use it to argue getting some of your money back.
I knew I should have gone with the quick ship model. -
I was about to get the quick ship model, but i couldn't pass up the extra one year warranty for the same specs and price :I
-
Wait wait wait wait. Your order WASN'T cancelled, you got exactly what you ordered for exactly what you wanted to pay and now you're whining about how much you paid for it because people that got screwed got a MINOR discount.
We'll even excuse the fact that no one who got a Radiance paid $700.
You make things worse for everyone. -
Hooray! Just ordered my quick ship Envy 14 and it shipped today. Followed up by grabbing a Microsoft Comfort Optical 3000 and Plantronics Headset off of Newegg and the Wacta Black sleeve off of Amazon.
I'm so happy right now! -
My brother from another mother, that's exactly the same thing I did.
-
Ohhhh Myyyy Goddddd!!! My Envy finally shipped!!! I almost fapped I got soo excited.
-
Omg I think I hate you.
LOL nice -
*SHHHHH let the smart guy return it so someone who got cancelled can pick it up in the refurb outlet and give it the love it deserves.*
I'm with you Tsa1 return that hunk of junk. macbooks have wonderful trackpads! -
You sir, are my hero.
p.s. Doesn't understand why people have problems with this track pad, I love it to death. -
Got the shipping notice for my Custom Envy14 w/ Radiance Display around 8:30pm PST last night -- Coming from China (as speculated on this thread) and scheduled to arrive on 2/17 -- can't wait.
I went w/ the Core i7-720QM configuration, since I'll be running plugged in 90+ % of the time and would love the extra POWER. Maxed out pretty much everything else, and plan to install a Crucial 128GB SSD upon arrival. Will look to do pre-SSD (OEM Windows 7) and post-SSD (Clean Windows 7) benchmarks and see what can be gained.
was counting the days... now i'm REALLY counting the days and watching FedEx. -
When did you order yours? Middle of January?
-
Yeah, I would love to know that.
-
I think cork ordered the same day as me and our laptops are on the same shipment. I ordered on Jan 15. Scheduled to arrive feb 17
-
Today was my estimated ship date after my second delay and no email or communication of any type from HP.
So now quite a few people who ordered after me have had their Envy ship.
This leads me to believe the extreme delay is now related specifically to the beats edition.
Is there a world wide shortage of red LEDs and black spray paint I don't know about?
I'm both fuming and interested to see what will happen from here, if HP will flat out say they can't fulfill my order and cancel it or delay for a third time.
Either way, unless it miraculously ships over the weekend, I will be calling and cancelling my order on Monday unless they can pull something amazing out of their like 50% off. -
There were some sick beats for cheap on the refurb outlet. If they don't make keeping yours worth while you could get a nice one cheaper. Heck i returned a really nice one a month ago. Good luck.
-
Congrats to all of you whose laptop is shipped. Mine still shows "In Production".
I ordered jan 15th without radiance so I was hoping to have it by now so I called HP Customer Service and they didn't know anything so called HP Resolutions and they said my new ship date is Feb 26th! That is more than a month!! Ridiculous.
They did send me 15% off coupon and I also got $50 refund once my laptop ships so my i5-580 hp envy beats comes up around $900 now which is not bad but considering the huge delay its awful!! -
Wow. HP is really dropin the ball cause of these production issues. Considering you're gonna get the laptop in March I would consider just canceling it and wait for an SB laptop.
-
Thought about that but I ordered using the $500 coupon plus I got $50 refund so total was $900, with SB chips I am sure its not going to be less than a grand
-
I honestly dont what what id do if that happened to me....id be so pissed omg . THe asian new year is over now isnt it? shouldn't things be going back to normal?
-
Celebrations ended wensday, and most people worked a full week this week, or if not, were on part time.
-
So my order moved from anchorage to Memphis. I live in socal. Is this common procedure?
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
yes. there's a major distribution center in memphis.
-
Its wierd that they ship parts from memphis to shanghai, make laptops there and then ship them back to memphis!
-
Why would you think its wierd?
Its just business. No doubt its cheaper for HP to have the computers built in China then in California. Sure, it would be great to bring this part of the computer industry back to the USA to create more jobs for Americans.....but that's not likely to happen if HP is saving money doing what its doing now.
Besides, its not just HP, or the computer industry itself. Just look at the goods in your house. From toys (hopefully without lead paint!
), to major electronics, etc. Maybe a business major/expert here can explain a bit more as to why this is....

It has to do with their undervalued currency, low cost of labor, no environmental laws, etc.
-
For those who asked, here is the sequence of events...
1. Ordered HP Envy 14 w/ i7 & Radiance at 6pm PST on January 17th
2. Was scheduled to ship on February 2nd
3. Recieved delay notice saying it would ship on/before 2/16
4. Shipped from Shanghai on 2/11
5. Arrived in Anchorage on 2/12
6. Arrived in Memphis on 2/13
7. Departed Memphis on 2/13
Still waiting for arrival in the Pacific Northwest... so... interesting 'routing'... Scheduled delivery according to FedEx is 2/17. -

-

-
