My conversation went like this:
Summary:
Me: Hi I am calling to see if I can change my configuration.
Rep: Sorry, our system doesn't allow any configuration changes once the order is placed.
Me: Ah ok, so would I need to cancel and reorder?
Rep: Yes, or I can offer you $100 credit to keep the system
Me: Ok sounds good.
-
I would call them but I am worried about BCB canceling somehow..which would REALLY suck considering you have to wait forever to see if it even is accepted.
-
In this market, I think haggling with companies is perfectly acceptable. Hell my local news has encouraged one to do so at retail stores, as they all have the power to go below what the sticker price says.
-
the way I see it $100 off was fair request, considering that HP lied to us about that $999 price
-
Oh I'll see if I can get anything with threatening them to cancel my order.
-
personally im keeping both my orders and plan on selling one since i got $370 off one and $250 off the other and a possible $444 bing cashback if it goes through (fingers crossed, because of the stupid student discount crap) so either i end up with a get price for my comp and make $500 from BCB or i just get a great price and sell the other for a little $100 profit, either way things should work out. And dont call me greedy because i put in 2-3 hrs on the phone to get these prices plus the extra hours spent every day following this forum, so with how much effort i put in i think im entitled to some money. and its not like HP didnt screw me over, my order that i made on the 29th got delayed till the 23rd for shipping and others that ordered a week later are getting theres 2 weeks earlier.
-
Agreed. Plus, its my understanding from speaking with my sister (A practicing Buddhist), that karma only applies to dealing with individual, sentient entities, not organizations set up for the sole (or soul, tee hee) purpose of creating wealth for a handful of people, at the expense of others....like HP.
-
And you don't call me mad that I didn't even get a good enough deal (assuming that you're saying that I'm "envious"
) and don't have the balls to call up HP and to ask for more money from them. I've never been in such a money crunch so I guess it's a bit hard for me to understand. My mistake! I apologize for not understanding your situation.
-
Well, I suppose that I approve of the way you're calling. I was for some reason under the impression that you were asking them to price match the Bing discount, even though you already got that, since they have no way of knowing.
I may try to get the extra $100, since my 2nd order has been dropped to the factory. Was it really that easy? It's almost like HP marked up the price, knowing full well that it should be lower.
Btw, what's the email address to the conversation that was had regarding Bing and the situation? I want to make sure they tell me the same thing. -
My laptop is in anchorage as of...3 minutes ago!!!! hooray
-
I talked with 2 HP CSRs and asked them if I could by any chance get a bit more money off from the laptop and they both told me that they couldn't do that. It was until the 3rd HP CSR that I threatened to cancel and reorder and that's when he offered me the discount. It wasn't $100, but it was $50. I declined. You'll have to do a bit of lying perhaps to get the discount. That's the only way that I could do it. Kindly asking for more money back wasn't working with me.
Good luck! -
Haha, I learn something new every day...karma doesn't apply to corporations. How interesting. So where does the company stop and the individual begin? Certainly the $100 that people are receiving would likely end up in a CEO's pocket. Thus, you're effectively taking money out of their astronomical income, which in turn makes them care less about their job at hand. They then proceed to take it out on the lower employees, with whom you're dealing on the phone.
Life is nothing but the integral of days from birth to death; companies, the people who make it all happen. -
Congratulations!
Only a few more days then.
-
wooooo! mine too!!!
-
purchased yesterday and Mines already in production. how long should I expect to be there
-
Meh, I'll try once. If the first time doesn't succeed, then I won't bother. I guess I'll say that I want to downgrade to 6 GB of ram, since it doesn't make much difference to what I'll be doing on it.
Thanks
-
ME THREE!!!!!! I have a feeling I will be receiving my Envy tomorrow, one day ahead of schedule =D
I'll be really sad if it doesn't though =[ -
Mine was in production 11 days, then it shipped
-
When I called 888-227-8451 I got straight to the person, no hold time, no waiting music and I didn't have to lie or beg

Lol I doubt it... today/tomorrow it will travel to Tennessee, or the closest distribution center (hopefully Charlotte, where I live, for me) then it will ship out to you on friday. But since theres a distribution center 10 mins from where I live, theres always hope for me tomorrow!
-
Good luck.
To clarify to everyone, I never said that greed was bad. HOW you get the money though... is what's important. I'm sure there are a lot of people (NOT SAYING EVERYONE... saying that before people start flaming me that they didn't do this, they didn't do that) who weren't completely truthful to HP. -
I'm pissed, mine is in anchorage with you guys but my expected delivery date is the 20th? What the he||? (shipping to baltimore btw)
-
I called and said I was unhappy that the battery life is really like 4 hours instead of 7 and that the price was a bit high (which it is, even with the 30% BCB, I have CA tax and waste fee and wanted to keep my initial outlay, i.e. before cashback below $1,000) and that I would like to cancel my order. She then offered me a 10% discount.
-
i live in california...so its on the way. unless they love to burn fuel...they will just ship to california =D
-
were you delayed? mb the delayed orders got upgraded shipping and youre still on regular shipping?
-
Cheer up! My E14 is on the exact same plane, but delivery is expected Friday. I doubt they're going to hold it for 3 or 4 or 5 extra days just to keep to the schedule.
-
You're complaining about the price to HP after you purchased it? I live in CA and have to pay CA tax (8.75% in my area), $8 (come on) waste fee, and knew that if I couldn't really purchase it, that I wasn't going to buy it. Complaining about manufacturer's stated battery life? I wont even go there.
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
mine too.
awesome -
Hey, gotta come up with some alibi, right?
I'm personally having moral qualms about calling to get more money out of them. I still have another week to think about it. -
I see no problem calling to request a better price. I jumped quick to get the 30% and then work with HP to get the price to where neither of us is really completely happy (ever heard of compromise?) they set the price $100 higher then they initially claimed and I called in and basically got them to drop it back down to where is should be. If they were not still making a profit, then they would just say no to a credit.
-
No money, but I got assurance that I have a beautiful, powerful computer coming my way. And I got wished a wonderful life.
Oh well, I'm more than happy with the price I paid.
-
I don't really understand. You said that you wanted it to be around $1000, correct? The base price is $1,099. 30% Bing Cashback on $1,099 is $329. It would've easily gone below $1,000 by the end. How low exactly were you trying to make it go? I'm just trying to understand your situation. If it was $999 with just a 10% academic discount, what exactly is the difference? You're already getting a huge discount, even if it was $100 more base price.
Like I said. It's just greed. It's not bad. Just don't deny is all I'm saying. -
Jul 14, 2010 11:47 AM (local scan time) --- Anchorage, AK!
^laptop #1. I'll play with her, then send her back.
It would be a great time to shop HP's outlet in about a week...all these new laptops getting shipped back and resold. -
Mine is as well, which means I might end up getting it before the week is out!
-
Me too. I'm perfectly happy that I was able to jump on the huge discount granted by HP. It was this laptop or Apple Macbook Pro (which would've cost me over $2,000 by the end).
-
What?I ordered on the 12th and mine is "Order dropped to factory", not even in production. Did you get the very2 basic config?I got i5-520,160GB SSD.
-
My first envy is in Alaska now too
-
Oh come on now, you attempted to get $100 off and failed, come off your high horse.
Haggling for the best deal possible is extremely smart, get with the program and realize that this is a capitalistic society. If they felt they were going to lose money, they wouldn't give out the credits. -
I will absolutely try to get the best price possible when buying a large ticket item like this. All my cards are on the table - I have emailed HP making sure that my 30% BCB will not be cancelled due to the 10% credit being applied to my account. If they deem me greedy and choose to deny one of these, then I will go from there, otherwise they will choose to sell at that price, meaning they are still making a profit.
$1,000 initial outlay BEFORE BCB was my goal, as in the $999 they initially said would be the purchase price -
me too i was wondering the same thing, maybe we get ours early
-
Yeah, I saved $100 over the cost of the first envy I ordered (after $225 refunded to me). I got 8 gigs of ram in the second, vs 4 in the first. Worth the wait, if you ask me.
I would have loved a MBP, but it doesn't support all the software I need.
So it was between the dm4t and the Envy for me...build quality for a college student ftw.
-
with BCB my laptop was $1078 with i5 520 6gb ram 500gb hdd ill take it.
-
haha, when I tried to cancel my order, they didn't offer any kind of incentive to keep it. I guess it all depends on who you get?
-
same..she just told me if I really wanted to change it I could send it back once it arrived, and then she outlined the shipping process. She did wish me a wonderful life, though.
-
i5-450
6gb ram
160gb ssd -
I was offered $50 and declined. I don't have a horse.
Did I ever say haggling was bad? Hmm... when I look through my post history, I did not. Again, it's the method and reasoning behind it.
I guess my ethics is different. Not saying it's better, just saying... different. HP is just such a great money to allow people to haggle even after the purchase price was agreed upon in check out by the buyer.
We can all agree on that, right?
-
You say it's a matter of ethics, which it is not. We agreed to buy a laptop that we get 21 days to decide if we want to keep it or not. That is their policy, if during that time period we try and get a better price so be it. There is not an ethics issue going on here.
-
before buying this computer i had a terrible view of HP as a company, i thought there computers were crap because they have ridiculously hot batteries and crappy all plastic construction (i owned a pavilion in the past). I ended up selling it, but before i did i had to restore it to put it back to factory setting. In order for me to get through the whole restore process i had to have the computer sitting up like an upside down v (^), with a fan blowing at the back so it would not over heat and shut off. before trying this method it shut down 3 times in the middle of the restore process, it was just terrible. but after buying this Envy and getting these great prices, it has made me want to buy another HP in the future when i probably would have not. So if anything they gained a loyal new customer, probably not the most profitable customer but a repeat buyer at that.
-
I'm trying to figure out how to get a bigger discount. Got 10% off for EPP and an additional $110 off after calling in. Also got 5% BCB going so hopefully that comes through.
Any suggestions?
