It wasn't about space on the plane.... The US customs officials didn't finish up with it on time!

Or if it makes you feel better you can blame Canada. (need I link the southpark vid?)

It's just after midnight here, and for some reason, tracking shows it still "in transit" (in alaska)
Eugh, whatever. I'm going to sleep now, and watching inception tomorrow
If it gets here, great, I'll be ecstatic. If not, I'll live

For those of us in the boat with ChemE and myself, whos packages made it through customs after the plane left last night, I have some additional info....for whatever it's worth. It might save some of you a couple of phone calls maybe.

I just spoke with a Fedex Stupidvisor. I have been informed that even though there are flights out tonight to our respective hubs, our packages will NOT be on them. She stated that this is due to the fact that the packages were shipped by HP as "weekday delivery only", for whatever reason.

I asked if I could personally pay the difference or a premium to allow for either a Saturday delivery, or at least to have it brought to the local Fedex office, so that I could pick it up Saturday. She stated that this was absolutely not an option, and that my ONLY option, is to wait for the Monday delivery. Period.

I'm buying a high powered rifle and scope, and going to look for a clock tower now........ (jk).

Ugh. Mine's still in Alaska, hasn't left facility (just says "in transit"), and there is the SAME ESTIMATED DELIVERY. Why?!!!?! There's no way it'll make it to me today by 4:30, so why haven't they changed it?

Nooooooo, it's out for delivery and I'm not there.

At least it's FedEx and if I miss it, they allow me to pick it up afterwards (except the Home branch) unlike UPS.

Once it's out of HP's hands I don't think you can go complain to them. If they made their target build date and sent it to Fedex I think they fufilled their end of the deal.

For the free shipping I think you're supposed to allow 5-7 days (business or not?). Mine shipped on the 9th and got here on the 15th so you might try being a little more patient. Ordered it on the 27th of June.

Yes, but for many of us, the shipping delays have been due to HPs mishandling of the customs paperwork. This is what happened with mine. It's why mine missed the plane last night. And it's why i'm not receiving it until Monday.

Well, its this reason, plus the inexplicable issue of HP stating that it was to be a weekday only delivery, which prohibits Fedex from allowing it onto a flight tonight, so that I could have picked it up tomorrow at the Fedex office.

Dude...I totally feel you...they were playing with our heads man. I have that "In transit" after "Int'l shipment release" too. I JUST called Fedex, and they said that it missed the flight and I'll be seeing it Monday. At least they told others the truth.

So I woke up this morning and saw:

    Jul 16, 2010 8:36 AM
    At local FedEx facility
    NORWICH, CT

Then, I checked about 5 minutes ago and saw:

    Jul 16, 2010 8:43 AM
    On FedEx vehicle for delivery

IT'S BETTER THAN WAKING UP ON CHRISTMAS MORNING AT 5 YEARS OLD! The best part is, so long as there are no problems with the system, I can finally, FINALLY stop my search for the "perfect" notebook and just enjoy what I have. Whew.

Exactly. Plus, when I called HP abot a week ago, they told me that they upgraded me to priority 2-day shipping and ASSURED me it would be here sometime this week. They obviously lied about that. I don't blame FedEx for this mishap at all; in my mind it is HP who should take responsiibility. I mean, I'm glad some of you are getting yours before you expected, but I and some others ordered the day of and after release and are having to deal with this . Unacceptable imho.

Yep. If it weren't for getting stuck in customs (again, HP's fault), most of these notebooks would have been at our doorsteps on Wednesday / Thursday. Friday is still marginally acceptable, but waiting until Monday is ridiculous.

HP really needs to step up to the plate, at least for their Envy line. I've placed two orders for customized Envy notebooks (one 15, which I returned, and this 14) and both experienced delays. Their customer service is very friendly and helpful compared to many companies, but they absolutely need to cut out the false promises and other BS. Apologize, issue another $25 coupon or discount, and stick with the facts.

With my Envy 15 order, I was promised numerous times (seriously, at least 5-6 times) that it would ship THAT WEEK, despite, delay notices I had received. In the end, it shipped almost a month after I originally placed the order.

Are you on the west coast? It's 6:46 am so I apologize if you mentioned it before. When I called Fedex, they said it as absolutely impossible to have it delivered by today. Right now it's in my city's sort facility waiting to be delivered. I say don't give up until tonight. They assure the worst case scenario to protect the name and reputation of their company if they don't make it. Good way to do business IMO. Just stay hopeful.

Couldn't agree more. I received exactly the same promises from HP. Worthless, they meant nothing.

And despite the fact that they supposedly upgraded us to two day priority shipping, we find that the shipping will ultimately end up being 5-7 days, due to other restraints placed on the shipping orders by HP. 2-3 days hanging out in Anchorage because of Customs paperwork missteps, and then an additional 3-4 days shipping time, due to the weekday only stipulation. <sigh>

    (where's that cry icon?)

I got the 430m as well. Hey, an Envy is an Envy! Right! :)

Umm, lessee.... How about some emotional feedback on what feelings the Envy elicits as you get to touch it for the first time!? And, what does it make you feel, or think about as you run your hands over its beautiful metallic exterior? What does it smell like?

I would love some visceral feedback along these lines. =)

Edit: Woo Hoo!! One hundred posts!

My sentiments exactly! I started looking for a laptop (my first) about 8 months ago. I wonder if this story will be familiar to you all.

I looked around for a few weeks and ultimately settled on the Core 2 Duo Sony CW, but the graphics card I wanted, the Nvidia 230, was out of stock. I waited and waited and waited but that never changed. Then they came out with the Core i versions, so I figured I'd get the brand-spanking new i5-540M and the upgraded GeForce 330. I tried to buy that, but it was only available on CTO with a lower-end graphics card (the 310) and bad resolution. Then, it popped up on the Best Buy website (but only the website), with the 330 and higher resolution but with the 520M, not the 540, and then only in two colors, neither of which I wanted. I debated it for weeks and decided to wait for something better. A nasty e-mail to Sony's customer service division - ignored, I'm sure - was my only revenge. So I started looking elsewhere. I saw an appealing video for the Lenovo Y460 (i5, ATI 5060, neato white keyboard), but when that was launched it turned out that it had heat problems, a crappy screen and a different design. Then I fixated of the Asus N82 for a few months, but it was pretty much the same story there. Next came the new Acer Timelines, but the screen wasn't up to snuff (I use Photoshop alot, so 1600x900, brightness and color dynamics are important to me), the 4820 had heat problems and the 3820 was taking forever to get to the States. Finally I heard about the Envy 14! It seemed to have everything I wanted, but given my previous experience, I figured I would end up disappointed. I've been looking over every little detail about this computer for months now, griping with all the rest of you about the mis-advertised battery life, the paisley design (which I've come to like), the processor options, lack of blu-ray, etc. But looking back at where I started, and judging by everything I've read from new owners, it looks like I'm going to end up with a laptop that far exceeds what I was anxiously looking forward to 8 months ago. I've been refreshing this thread far too many times a day for the past few weeks and refreshing FedEx's tracking page far too many times an hour for the past few days. But my search is over, delivery is this afternoon, and it's about time!

Mine still shows at the depot. Called Fedex and they said it hasn't left yet. But it should still be delivered today (crosses fingers). If not I can pick it up tomorrow at the hub the Fedex rep said. Not ideal but better than waiting till Monday.
