I'm just gonna plug mine in and use it straight away. In the other thread, they were saying that there's really no point in letting it charge up anymore. It might help in the long run, but the battery life game is very minimal.

yeah, it's shaped like that, nothing is holding it down. the outside box had some dents but inside was flawless.
I plugged mines in and used it right away since I know I'm returning it -

First one arrived after 6 hours on the in-town FedEx truck. I'm offering it for sale to anyone who can't get the sort of deals we get in the States (or someone in the US who's just impatient). If I don't get any serious takers in 2 days, I'm shipping it back to HP.
Now I have to wait for the 30% BCB one to ship, on Thursday if HP's schedule is correct. -

and regarding defective systems, how do you RMA it? do you pay for a new one and return this one? or do you just yell @ hp and they send you a new one?
i'm asking cause i'm still waiting to order with another bcb...and if i get a defective one, i don't want to have to buy a new one that wouldn't have the bcb discount to replace the broken one, you know what i mean? -
Mine came dead on arrival. Now have to wait 7-9 more business days.

I was just trying to bring light to the situation, I'd be furious if my laptop came like that. Problem is that you can't just go to Best Buy and get another one. You have to argue with the CSR's if you got BCB to get the same discount on a replacement laptop.
I hope he (she) gets it resolved quickly and painlessly through HP. -

That's actually my concern, doesn't BCB discount rolls over to replacement unit? If you are not reordering that is and simply replacing with a new one.

My HP shipped today. Now I just have to wait the 5-7 days to get it.
CANT WAIT. Hope I don't get a dud. Sorry to all those out there who have gotten defective units.

From my understanding they have you order a new one, and just return the old one. Usually they'll apply any coupons or discounts, but I'm not sure how they'll swallow a 30% reduction. I'd rather get a direct reduction though than having to wait for my BCB to "mature".

Apparently they do do exchanges, except you'd have to send your current on in and they have to build a new one for you.

No. Either i send back and they repair and send back or I RMA and they build a new one.
I called customer retentions and they said if I get it repaired and repair doesnt work right and it comes back and something else happens outside the first 21 days, I cant RMA it.
If I RMA it they have to rebuild the customized machine and she quoted me build date of August 13th (I ordered this one on June 28th), so will likely be two months between initial order and finally getting working (maybe) machine. -
so it would take another 2-3 weeks?

That's undoable for me. If the first one comes out bad, I'll be lugging around an 8.5lb brick for 2-3 weeks.

Correct. I have no idea what to do now, RMA or Repair. I am scared they will do a shotty job on repair and I will be sending this thing back in 3 weeks. If i get it rebuilt I am out almost another month without laptop.

They CAN do replacement - you use the defective one until the replacement arrives - but you have to somehow whine them into doing it. They did it for me on my second Envy 15 (I ordered two) that arrived with a busted screen bezel. I said something along the line of "HP has been sitting on my money for a whole month before I got my order, and now I gotta return it, wait for it to be credited, and have HP sit on my money for another month..."
I'll avoid ordering from HP from now on. I really don't like that they charge you immediately upon ordering, sit on your money for who knows how long before you'll get your order, and if there's any issue with your computer, good luck getting an exchange.
PS the way HP originally setup my exchange with the Envy 15 was that they actually *charged* my credit card for another computer, and then they issued a refund when the replacement went into production. What a stupid system. Smart for them I suppose - can't hurt to sit on a thousand dollars here and there. -
RMA it. Otherwise you could be stuck in repair hell. Odds are high enough. And it's something you don't want. The horror stories that are out there will make you cry.
If you get a new one, you stand a 60% chance of getting a relatively perfect unit. As according to the poll.

No change for me, still says In Production. Just be patient there is still 3 more days for them to build it.

I ordered mine on the 2nd BCB day and it is still in production for July 23rd. The suspense is killing me..have there ever been any cases of the laptop actually getting out of production early or would that be setting my hopes in HP too high, although I would be happy if they could even get the laptop out on time without delay.

BCB dates were BCB 12th and 13th. I ordered on the 12th, got an estimated ship date of 22nd, and no updates since it went into production. Hoping it ships before the 22nd as I'll have only about a week and a half for the package to get to my place.

Ordered at 30% BCB, ship date of 22nd. Still no change as of 7/19, 20:43 EST. Really hoping it ships tomorrow or Wednesday, as 2-day shipping will have it landing next week if it ships Thursday, the 22nd.

Bah, I chose the free shipping. I'm thinking to call back for 2-day. I can wait an extra day or two if needed, however the stupid FedEx Ground depot is like an hour from my house, but two-day and overnight is only about ten minutes. Just in case I'm not home a couple days in a row to accept the package, I'd rather only drive the ten minutes... Maybe they'll offer a free 2-day shipment. I doubt it.

I just got off the phone with the 888 number I provided you and I told them about finding the sleeve for $12.62 compared to buying the sleeve directly from HP for $30. They gave me $15 credit back.

Just re-ordered to replace this DOA envy. Estimated build date July 30th. They upgraded to 2-day shipping for free and my new build will have the 450M instead of 430M.
They took away my $75 credit for the CPU price match and only giving me $25 on new order($50 upgrade to 450M), i should have fought and complained more but its been 4 hours on phone now...
Wish HP could have at least thrown in the CPU upgrade for free.. Going to ship the DOA Envy back tomorrow. -
Ordered 2nd BCB day, est. ship date 23rd, still in production....
It's almost 9am in Shanghai right now so maybe we'll see some status changes this evening if they ship some today. -
dang...that sucks...my envy was etched multiple times on the spacebar, and one etch mark about a 1cm, and i called in HP, and they let me keep my laptop for now for the 21 day return policy and order another one for the same price along with my credit.
What's weird is that my build (i5 450M, 500gb, 4gb ram 1 dimm) was $22 less that what i originally paid. Before it was $1115.99, now its $1093. So that's an additional $22 that stacks on top of my $220 in credit. I dont know what dropped in price, but I'm content that they didnt make me go through the whole exchange shabang. -
I actually didn't get a chance to try, but I can do it now. Hopefully, i'll get the same results.

I just got the email saying they credited back the $15. But, tax for the $15 wasn't credited =(. That's like $1.40... (and $1.40 can buy me a burger at Wendy's or McD's)
