I hope people on this forum are just over exaggerating it and the noise is not as bad as it sounds. As one poster mentioned, people who are computer savvy often notice minor disturbances that the average user wouldn't care to notice. Luckily I'm a computer newb who just wants something small and powerful enough to play SC2.
I guess us late buyers will just have to wait and see for ourselves.
-
Haha. Yea I think the only game I'll be playing is sc2 also.
Oh and the writing essays and trying to find an open class to register game. lol -
Estimated ship date is today, will see if they are back on track or delaying still...
-
So us buyers who ordered on the 12th/13th of July are 2nd-batchers eh? Hopefully the build-quality is still good
. I ordered on the 13th and ship date was always the 23rd and still is (crossing fingers there's no delay!)
-
22nd, mines not shipped yet...
-
man i was really hoping id wake up to a shipping notification this morning. so those who had a ship date of 7/21 havent had theirs ship yet? i still have this bad feeling that all of ours will ship out on monday
-
I have a question, when HP says build date/ship date in the order information, what exactly does it mean? Do they ship the laptop by that date or its just that it gets shipped from manufacturing site?
-
isnt the 2nd patch always stronger quality wise? Mine ships tomorrow aswell...
and whats so great about Starcraft 2? Nobody will shut up about it XD -
I canceled my 1st 12th order that had a 22nd date. Reordered around an hour later (still the 12th) and my build date is now the 23rd.
-
Yea we are the 2nd batchers.. Maybe HPs reading this forum and making the laptop better for 2nd batchers
I had a 21st ship date... Not shipped yet
Yea.. I had a 21st ship date. And it still says 'in production' Kinda sucks.. I'm really hoping it goes our before the weekend at least.. -

Dead in the water already?!

my first envy's estimated ship day was the 20th but it shipped the 19th and it arrived this morning. i had standard shipping so im happy it only took 3 days. more like 1 day though because the first 2 days it said it was in shanghai.
my second envy's est. ship day is today. if this so called 2nd batch ships today, do you think they will ship as fast my first one (with standard shipping)?
i need my second envy by the 30th. -
Is it common to ship that quickly? Wow. -
i fear that best case scenario for 2nd round orderers is early next week (shipping or arrival that matter, most likely the former)
-
Has anyone had their laptop ship out on a day other than Monday??
-
what region of the US are you in?
-
haha thanks for giving us hope. 3 days from CH to US is pretty impressive.
I also hope the tracking updates are just lagging and that they already shipped it out. -
east coast
-
im thinking they will ship out monday and arrive by friday
my first one arrived in 4 days. and like that guy said they seem to chill in china for a day or so but once they get going they arrive fairly quickly -
somebody should call them to make sure that the status updates are on time...Maybe we can get some answers that way. I would do it myself but I'm stuck in class.
-
epic sigh.
-
Ok...so for those of us who received ship dates of 21st/22nd/23rd, how soon do you guys plan to phone in to say WTH and ask for 2-day shipping? If not today, Friday?
-
I did call this mornin actually. My ship date was yesterday and the rep I spoke to told me that there are no delays.
She spoke to the 'shipping speacilast' and said that sometimes they don't update there order status for awhile. She also got in contact with fedex, but said they couldn't give her any feedback as of yet.
She also assured me that if you place an order between 10-14th or before those dates, you laptop is already built, but I have no idea what shanghai is wait for.
She also assured me that if you ordered with free shipping, the maximum is 7 business days for delivery from your ORIGINAL EBD/ESD.. and if there were any delays they would automatically upgrade you to 2 day shipping to meet the original delivery date.
They have a list of order numbers on delay and mine wasn't on there, and I also asked if there were delays for ANY of the envy 14 lines. She put me on hold to contact her supervisor and to contact the shanghai factory manager for the factory report as of 7/22 (shanghai time) and there were no report on delays or shortage of components.
She told me that packages ship in bulk.. I guess to conserve cost. And also the order status isn't always correct.
She told me to call tomorrow if nothing has changed in my order status or email.. And the usually time that things update on the website is between 8pm and 10pm est.
And also if your getting some kind of credit back to your account, it's up to 72 hours when HP and you receive a tracking number.
Of coarse, I'm taking it with a grain of salt. Maybe even half a grain.
But here's to hoping I get it before the 30th cuz I'm gonna be gone for 3 weeks on a trip. -
I ordered the ENVY 14 last night instead of a Macbook Pro 15" but I have to admit that when It came time to push the button i had a slightly harder time than I imagined. In the end, the fact that the ENVY offered newer Intel processors was really the deciding factor. Short of the spec sheet though, is there any other reason most of you chose the ENVY over the Macbook Pro? HP doesn't have the best rep when it comes to quality control. I love windows 7 but OS X does have a certain coolness to it also.
-
That's what I would have guessed. There were probably a swarm of ordered placed on the 12th and 13th due to BCB, and they probably want them to ship all together.
Price was a main factor. I got a 160 GB SSD, and my final after price after 30% BCB was $955. A similarly spec'ed Macbook Pro 15" with 128 GB SSD and upgraded resolution costs $2200.
So for $1250 more I'd get... OSX, a smaller SSD, and a substantially weaker graphics card? I despise OSX (use it every day at work) so I'd run mostly off of Windows, therefore the battery life doesn't make a difference to me. Build quality is about the same as far as I can tell (read Apple's support forums and you'd come away thinking they're plagued by issues too).
The Envy just seems like a better value rather than a status symbol. -
Dang it. I wish you'd said your ship date was today so that I can have an excuse to call tomorrow too! Oh well, at least that means I can depend on you for a free status update tomorrow if it's true our Envy notebooks are shipping together!
-
Simple.. We choose the envy for low cost-performance. Don't get me wrong, the MBP is sexy, and osx is a nice os, but when it come down to it, alot of us don't have/doesn't want to spend an extra grand for looks.
The envy 14 is prolly the only pc lappy that has somewhat of a chance against the mbp.
But that's just me
Besides that, I'm a pc.
You bet your I'm calling tomorrow.. Haha and everyday after that if nothing has changed. I need to know what's goin on with my machine that I spent 1000 on. -
Mine should ship sometime today, I'll check again tonight and wait until tomorrow to see if it shipped. The laptop seems to be built already, probably just waiting for the other BCB customer that have 23rd as the ship date.
-
Yeah, same here. A Mac Pro 15 specced out the same as my Envy is $2500! My Envy came to $1500, and I didn't even get the Bing discount. Plus I'm actually not the biggest fan of OS X; it just doesn't jive with me. And the Apple has no HDMI port. And Apple in general doesn't like it's customers to tinker with things. I like to tinker.
-
I'd say that it has more than a chance! Not that its an indicator of everything, but the i7-620 Macbook Pro scores 6,699 on PCMark Vantage (in BootCamp). After a clean install, my Envy scored 6,819!
Plus the 5650, despite being under-volted/under-clocked/under-whatevered in the E14, is a better card than the Nvidia 330. -
Has anyone here had their laptop ship out on a day other than Monday? It seems like so far the 12th and 19th were the golden dates and that all of ours will ship out on the 26th.
-
If it ends up shipping on the 26th, can anyone enlighten me as to when I can expect to get my notebook? I live in the LA/OC, California area and am taking off early in the morning on the 4th of August. Any chance a 26th shipping date would count as a delay?
I'd really like a chance to test this baby out for a couple of days, possibly even try ironing out any potential issues. -
Mine is still in production and I ordered on the 12th...Supposed to be shipped today.

I see Apple as a snobby, unethical business that is in the business of creating an image, not providing quality computer hardware and software at a reasonable price. Their hardware is legendarily overpriced with suspect quality, but due to their admittedly attractive industrial design, people look past this. They select cheaper, lower end parts and often subpar cooling even in their high end MBPs because the 'reality distortion field' means that people are buying it because it has an Apple on it, and is aesthetically pleasing.
Their software and firmware is laden with limitations. I eventually ditched my iPhone because of one of the simplest reasons - Apple did not support copy/paste mass storage connectivity as the industry standard for transferring media. They even went the extra mile and made a complicated encrypted database on the iPhone and iPod Touch so that 3rd party programs could not easily and properly place music on the device without a (currently illegal under the DMCA) hack. No, they wanted you to use iTunes and nothing else. In addition, they did not support the free and open source codecs like FLAC and Vorbis that would have cost them nothing to implement, when the vast majority of my music resides in the former. Could the oh-so-perfect iTunes handle seamlessly transcoding FLAC to Apple's proprietary lossless codec, if they were going to insist upon this? NO! Hell, iTunes music player won't even see FLAC, even if you have the codecs on the PC. Apple provides a walled garden, an insular world where there is naught but what Apple deems important enough to enter.
This is a perfect example of Apple's motto "We Know Better Than You (tm)". Apple comes down from on high to create a "user experience" and you are an idiot from trying to deviate from it. It is the Apple way, or the highway. This has been exemplified hundreds of times over the years from when the original iPhone releasing without 3G support prompted Jobs to say "All YOU need is EDGE. Nobody needs anything more", to the recent "You're holding the iPhone4 wrong", Apple and Jobs' arrogance is unmatched. Even their iPhone4 "apology" speech had the tone of "But it isn't really our fault anyway look all our competitors phones can behave the same way if you grip them like you're trying to strangle a chicken but we'll indulge your whiny asses anyway and give you a bumper look how benevolent we are".
I want control of my hardware and software. I don't want an "Appliance" that I merely ask the great Lord Jobs 'Please sir, can I have some more?'. I don't want subpar components jammed into a pretty box. I'm none too happy of the Envy coming via HP - they're one of my least favorite PC companies, but I'll take the chance of having to send back a defective Envy over giving one bloody cent to Apple ever again. -
Performance wise ency wins all the way IMO.
But I was talking about physical-ness when or come ro having somewhat of a chance -
id say friday at the earliest, most likely monday. i dont believe it would count as a delay because if it arrived on monday that would mean it took 7 business days to get to you from when it should have shipped (22nd) which is within the 5-7 days for ground shipping.
-
Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
Maybe a bit invective, but I'm delighted by and agree with almost everything you have to say.
*starts slow clap* -
That basically sums up my thought process as well. I'm a contract developer and I make a living with my laptop, so I can't really afford to buy a PC based primarily on looks. The ENVY is however a PC that I considered after seeing how nice it actually looked. I've basically bought ThinkPads because they are as dependable as they come in the business class sector, highly upgradeable, and easy to repair.
Anyone know Why the i5-540m isn't an option? I can see how that processor could make the ENVY 15 a basic non option for most, but it's absence was a major disappointment. Add the i5-540m and drop the 520m and you have the ultimate in performance and portability. Logically you'd think HP would have gone with the i5-370m - i5-450m -i5-540m - i7-720QM and i7-840QM as your standard options for the ENVY 14. With those options, HP would have hit all the Energy efficient and Brute force sectors. -
Mine just got here. I ordered on the 9th with an estimated ship date of he 21st. It shipped on the 19th and showed up today (22nd) in the OC. So far I'm very happy with this laptop. There is a keyboard flex but like many have said it's not bad and you kinda have to apply an above normal amount of pressure to notice it. I just got an led backlit monitor for my desktop but this screen blows it out of the water. It's very bright, clear and the colors do really "pop".
-
My guess is the same as yours..
Regardless, I do believe us 'second batchers' are getting them no later than next week. (I hope) and if our lappys arrive later than that, it would count as a delay, and then maybe you can call HP for a free cookie.
-
Lllluuuucckkyy haha.. Good to hear you got yours relatively quick! I can only hope for everyone else who ordered around the time you did.
-
I, too, agree with most of what you have said.
-
I as well. BUT I do love my iPhone 4, only because it will soon be jailbroken, and I can do whatever I want with it.
-
Oh snap what kind of coookie? The same kind that hotel gives you when you check in (oven warm and niiiiice). I think it's Hilton?
-
Yeeeaa that kind!! I mean... Who wouldn't want a delay in exchange for a nice warm fresh cookie?
Shhhoooottt... -
But the Envy 14 comes with a cookie so NO DELAYS PLEASE!
-
FWIW I ordered on the 13th and have an "estimated ship date" of the 23rd (tomorrow). As others have mentioned (and based off info from a CSR) it would probably make more sense for HP to save money by shipping all the large influx of Envy 14 orderes received on the 12th,13th (from the 30% BCB sale) in one large international shipment from China vs shipping them in 2-3 separate shipments (for people with ship dates of 21st, 22nd, and 23rd for example). So perhaps the people who ordered on the 13th for 23rd shipping dates are "holding up" the people who ordered on the 11th/12th with ship dates of 21st/22nd, but HP will then "upgrade" those people to 2day shipping domestically to ensure they get it within the 7 business day window from time of shipment?
So basically HP saves on 2-3 extra international shipments and in turn pays a bit more for domestic shipping to make up for lost time (in the end still saving some $$ perhaps)? So maybe all of us 2nd batchers will ship tomorrow the 23rd (or Monday the 26th if delayed
).
-
Same here.
Plus they don't support HDMI and only has 2.0 USB ports. I laugh at everyone who buys a high end mbp at my school without knowing what they are really buying, except for the image of course
