Dammit. Have the 28th shipments been split up?

HAHA I WIN!!! (10char) -
Spec for spec, your notebook seems better balanced out. I believe the Quadro GPU is for business stuff, so I can't say for certain whether it's really worse than the 5650 beyond what notebookcheck seems to say.
Anyone care to comment on build construction and display quality for the Elitebooks? -
You're on this flight to Newark:
FlightAware > Federal Express Corporation #80 -
So nobody knows what "Held at Sort Facility" means?
-
I don't know about that particular Quadro model, but my understanding is that especially for CUDA/Modeling/Matlab kinda stuff, the Quadro and ATI's equivalent, the FireGL cards, will run rings around "Normal/gaming" cards. That's why they're so expensive - they're made specifically for that kind of rendering and are based off consumer cards, but with incredible precision and power in limited apps. You /can/ still game with them and whatnot, but it won't give you the kind of performance the normal gaming variant of the card has.
If that is a new Quadro, and from the looks of the rest of the specs it may be, his could be more powerful but ONLY for "Professional" use. Can't understand the anemic 2gb RAM though - usually if you're going to the trouble of putting a FireGL/Quadro in a PC, you put a ton of RAM into it. -
I think so..
Maybe for whatever region you live in the states.
I'm in Cali and it still says int'l shipment release on my status -
wow amazing news! Im in CT so thats pretty damn close. I thought it would make a ton of stops all over the place.
~5 hours till it gets to NJ. Maybe the first fedex guy wasnt lying about the 26th delivery date. -
If it's true the Quadra's really that much better, his friend still paid $550 for a negligibly better CPU, the Quadro, less RAM, and a smaller hard drive. Without knowing anything about build construction and display quality (hard to believe there's a better one than the Radiance display in HP's lineup), it's a matter of saying whether the i5 upgrade and the GPU are worth that much plus the sacrifices mentioned. -
can i come to the party
mine ships 27

Makes sense. California's but a few hour flight away from Alaska and LA about 400 miles from Oakland. I assume (hopefully correctly) from the way the eastward US shipments spent no more than 4 hours in Alaska before taking off for Newark that our notebooks won't encounter any clearance delays the early orders encountered. As long as it gets to my place at least on time, I'm not complaining...at least not too loudly! -

On the same plane as me! -
Yea me too!
Here's to hoping for the 28th by 430 or sooner!! -
me too!!! It's final destination is Boston, but I am actually heading to New York tomorrow, maybe I can pick it up in New Jersey..?
-
Start your own exclusive secret society. -
Hmm, the flight to Oakland left 30 min ago but there's no shipping update on my Fedex page.
Any other CA people departed from AK yet? -
lmao i think im the only one on this forum getting it then.
-
Nice! mine should be on that same flight!
Actually the Quadros and FireGLs are the same. You are only really paying for the actual quadros and firegl bios and software on these cards. They have the same performance as "normal/gaming" cards except they are optimized for AUTOCAD and etc. So if a new Quadros came out it would be based on one of the current highend or mainstream Fermi cards. So in essence you could flash the bios with a high-end or mainstream fermi card if you knew which card it was. But otherwise with those 2 prospective bios the Quadros would lose to the its brother consumer fermi in game performance, while the consumer fermi would lose to the Quadros in bussiness auto cad and all those engineering softwares. They have both been the same card just with different softwares flashed onto the card for what it is used for. -
It might go to Memphis first, then Oakland. Since we're on the 5-7 day shipping it might be more economical. Don't ask me why lol
-
.
.
Nope. -
Da*m! Mine arrived in Anchorage today at 1:49pm, then got a Status Scan at 2:45pm, and now it is still sitting there. Supposed to arrive here in Washington State on the 28th. Hopefully it'll get here sooner. Alaska isn't that far away.......

Mines left Alaska a few hours ago
Located in SD
-
Yours is going to Memphis
FlightAware > Federal Express Corporation #26
Looks like crm was right about us CA people being shipped there first. -
I'm in Cali and mine hasn't departed Anchorage either.
-
how did you guys search up the flights?
did you manually searched all flights and just matched the 5:44pm departure time or something -
Yeah, you can look at all the flights match the time
FlightAware > Flight Finder > Anchorage Intl - Memphis Intl (PANC-KMEM) -
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
What did u say to get that email? When I asked 2 guys to send me an email, they wouldn't.
So you gou $100 off? do u also have 2 day shipping, or did they give u that free?
Thanks! -
My package still says "Int'l shipment release" but no departure yet.
Ok, it's the weekend though, and should ship out by Monday I'm sure. I almost hate knowing this much detail. Can drive you nuts. Well, I'm already there, but a bigger nut I guess.
-
I don't get it. My notebook was with your shipment!
Same here. -
Oh is that so? I Thought that ended with the 8800 Nvidia/ 3000 ATI series and they actually made different boards these days.
-
I was going to comment on this, and I believe Lucis is right.
Generally, ATI and NVIDIA just flash the card with a special FireGL or Quadro BIOS respectively.
I have also heard said BIOS results in poor game performance, as it's designed for CAD/modeling/rendering with special programs. Not sure if that's true. -
my Envy had to leave your party haha. sucks how it's going from AK to TE, when Memphis is 1800 miles northeast of san diego, CA
-
I'm in Sacramento, CA.
Left AK as of Jul 24, 2010 9:01 PM.
It is looking like Monday/Tuesday. Hope the flight is either to Oakland, CA or Sacramento, CA- both have major Fedex sort faculties. Quite a amazing turn around, considering 24 hours ago I hadn't received notice of build status or shipping. -
Mines the same flight as yours!
Would fedex even deliver early? I'm asking because I've never dealt with fedex.. Mostly dhl and ups and USPS.. -
some of the impatience here is amusing...
Jul 24, 2010 9:01 PM Departed FedEx location ANCHORAGE, AK -
I'm not impatient, though I DO have a strict schedule. Just baffled. What's going on here? Seems as though there are at least 3 different FedEx planes leaving Alaska!
Update: FedEx plane left Alaska at 9:01pm
Okey dokes. Looks like there were no clearance delays. Now all that's left is worrying about whiney CPUs.
EDIT: Will look for flight to follow. -
Yeah, a couple months ago some people had some luck flashing 275GTX over to the 4800FX Quadro.
Anyways I just wanted to say that they both relatively equal, but the quadro is more optimized for CAD programs + it has more ram to utilized since these programs are usually processing intensive these workstation cards basically take over the processing from the processor since it can more efficiently and complete these tasks with its optimized software and firmware, So while it may run the circles around the mainstream cards in those programs because of its optimization the mainstream cards will do the same with them in gaming since their software doesn't work too well with the way games use them. -
I doubt it. I live in the midwest and mine left the same time as yours.
Probably Memphis
-
Mine updated...(going to west coast)
Jul 24, 2010 5:44 PM - Departed FedEx location - ANCHORAGE, AK
Which flight that mu E14 use? -
Let me get this straight. Do FedEx's MD11s first go to Memphis International before hitting California?
Seems a bit counterintuitive, don't you think?
EDIT: Also, how do we know it's not Flight #76 if the answer to my question is a "yes?"
EDIT2: I'm a dummy. My package left after his did. Never mind.
-
In Cali; mine left AK at 9:01PM as well.
-
Yeah, they are sending them to Memphis first on multiple planes. Flight 76 would be the one for the 9:01 people.
Mine is shipping to CA and I haven't even left yet so I'm probably on the last plane that's leaving tonight in a few minutes. -
Then it's Flight 76 you will want to track. FlightAware has a plane logged at a departure time of 9:02pm.
If not that, Flight 74 left at 9:25pm and Flight 72 left at 8:30pm. -
Don't ask me why but its to save Fedex money, since Memphis is the "superhub", its more economical to bulk up on CA orders there then fly all of them to CA at once. That's the way I see it
and yeah its flight 76
http://flightaware.com/live/flight/FDX76 -
Yup, such a bummer it has to go all the way to Memphis.
I'm in the Bay Area too (Sunnyvale). Where are you? -
Haha!! I lived in Sunnyvale for a while! small world eh? Haha.
-
Just got an update that mine departed at 9:24 so flight 74 for me.
FlightAware > Federal Express Corporation #74 -
A few weeks ago my dv6tse went to Indianapolis from Alaska. Looks like this E14 is going to Memphis along with the others on FDX76.
