LOL. I know. I felt bad, but I laughed at her when she said that, and then......I asked to speak to her supervisor.

If I order the laptop today, the build date is July 21st, so when would be the ship date and when should it arrive at my house in the states?

    Thanks!

Nobody knows. My build date was yesterday and today it is "clearing customs" so I'll get a tracking number tomorrow. I'm totally skeptical of that, though, because apparently there is a hard drive shortage or soemthing?

I hope I got my over 250+ off my base with the student disc already. I called and wanted to change my components like a day after and said they couldnt..which i doubt it cause they probably hadnt even started building mine since mine is also delayed another 5 days. So I got 100 credit with that. 25$ for the processor change and 25 for the delay which i got credited back. I also did a price match and got 128 back from that. I hope they all come through

Of course, it makes perfect sense that HP would have a shortage of HDDs. HDDs are an extremely rare commodity with so few manufacturers and suppliers that shortages are commonplace, especially in a small-market country like China with very few industries in general.

It couldn't be that SSDs are more expensive and represent greater profit for HP and that HP is choosing to serve those customers first. Why would a profit-seeking entity do that?!? And certainly there couldn't be a shortage of one of the rarer components of the laptop, like the premium screen or chassis. Heavens, I can't even imagine such a thing!

I just said can i get a price match on the amazon model, so they subtracted the 2 prices and said ok putting in a form for 128 something, and i was just like....ok. She was singing the whole time she was doing this by the way. Doubt she was into the job

Well i assumed it was that 1199 model, but if theres others then no i guess not, I even asked about if they would match the tax cause amazon doesnt have any, and there were like no you have to fill out a tax waiver form or something. But the 2 prices she supposedly subtracted included the tax on mine so w/e it worked out. Others have done this already, they said they dont check specs at all. Mine were the same specs though so it was legit

what Hard drives are people getting that they say are delayed?

    I plan on getting the 500GB 7200RPM.

Also, Since I live in Canada, I will be using a US credit card, and shipping it to a US address, so can if I call HP, will they give me a student discount since I am going to college in September in Canada? I can only pick it from the states. Or should I just say that I am going to any college in the states?

    Thanks!

Just say your going to any college in the states if your college isn't there. HP's not gonna go call the school and make sure your enrolled.

    320 and 500 were delayed.

    160 and 256 ssd weren't.

was there a 640gig, I don't really remember. Not sure if anyone picked it if there was.

edit: keep in mind that this is all unofficial because HP won't explicitly state what it is.

it's just when the ssd ones ship and the hdd ones don't and everything else is the same...well yeah.

    no.

    we're not sure.

it's just a guess from what has and has not shipped.

it could be something else like a connector for the HDDs (maybe it's different from the SSD connector)

There's no conclusive evidence that hard drives are delaying orders.

At a minimum, there is just as much evidence that more expensive orders are being prioritized over less expensive orders.

True. They could just be having a delay in the factory and are sending out the more expensive ones first.

Well I am from Canada, but my Aunt lives in FLorida, and will be leaving for Toronto august 1st, so I can order it to her house and she will bring it up for me.

    Best thing is:

-I can get the laptop from the states for a much cheaper price than from Canada
-I can get the academic discount, just getting one of my family members school information down there
-Its only 6% tax in Florida
    -no customs
    -no 13% tax
    -BCB
Here is the HP envy 14 in Canada:

HP Envy 14.5-Inch Laptop (Brushed Aluminium): Amazon.ca: Electronics

almost $2000 for a 430M and non radiance screen. NO WAY would I ever pay that. They just waste their time putting that on amazon.ca with that price.

I've now called 3 times and each time has been resoundingly successful. Each time I spoke with what sounded like an Indian woman, although their English was very acceptable.

1.) First I called to see if I could change to the 450m from the 520m, they said I couldn't, but credited me with $100 instead.

2.) Called a second time for the $22.50 price adjustment on the processor and she came back saying the configuration differed by $45 and she would credit me that difference. I dunno where she came up with that math, but that works out great for me.

3.) Just called about the delay to get my $25 coupon as credit instead, saying that I don't intend to make another small purchase, and the coupon really wasn't valuable compensation for me. She credited my account the $25 and assured me that all delays have been given priority shipping.

I couldn't be happier with the way I've been treated by HP customer service. I don't know if I'm just lucky, but they really do have some fantastic reps if you just call the right numbers.

I have a quick, probably stupid question.

Will the 10% academic discount be applied before tax or after tax?

I am making a program that will accept input for various purchasing options to show whether it will be cheaper to order from that guy on ebay with bcb and the other discounts or from hp with my academic discount.

Looking to buy the envy within the month. Question was do you guys think there will realistically be any discounts within that time frame? And even if there are will I be able to use them with the student discount? Or should I just go ahead and buy it now because I will need it at the latest August 14 when I head off to college.

Often, coupon codes come out in time for back to school. No guarantees or like a prospectus would say, "past performance is not indicative of future results."

Would I be able to use those codes in addition to the student discount or would I have to choose between one of the two? Because I remember reading somewhere that you can't combine the student discount with any other offer and would that count as an "offer"?

So there'd really would be no point of waiting unless there's a coupon over 10% off. Still I'll prolly end up waiting just in case. My vostro can last another month :D

Well, you got really lucky! I've called for similar issues.
1.) To get the 520m changed to 450m after 18 hours. She said they couldn't..end of story. She offered nothing in return, even when I said I'd cancel.

2.) I got $24.24 back, to the penny. I'm not complaining about this..this was the smoothest.

3.) Called to get the $25 credited to account. She said that there was no possible way for that to happen, and she couldn't even give me free shipping for a $30 order.

I was extremely nice on the phone. I called up a few days ago to see if mine was delayed, and she assured me that it was in customs that day and would be shipped the next day; she hadn't even heard of the delays. A few hours later I got the delay email.

I'm not sure if I should try calling back in a few days to speak with a manager or not...

I also went with the super polite approach. I must have just gotten nice reps (or was talking to someone in a different department or something).

I'd definitely call back - the squeaky wheel gets the grease. They obviously CAN do it, you just need a rep with some balls and a bit of know-how.

I called shortly after ordering when we weren't sure whether or not the $200 battery option was actually the slice. They couldn't tell me, so they gave me $100 off there. I called again today to see about getting the $25 coupon credited retroactively to the sleeve I purchased and scored with no pain whatsoever. However, when I asked (in the same call) about the processor price change, she just mentioned the $100 off I got for the battery issue and told me (in a tone of voice that said "don't press your luck") that she couldn't apply the processor discount. Fair enough, if you ask me.

I'm a student and was planning to avail the student discount. Would you guys know if the credit card I'll be using should be my own credit card? (Cause I have none and my parent's credit cards are all maxed out) I'm planning to use my uncle's credit card though and will just pay him the monthly dues.

So I ordered mine yesterday with 450m, 4gb 1 Dimm, and everything else stock. Used my student discount along with the 3% at fatwallet for a final price of ~$1170 after CA taxes. I called hp today because I decided I wanted the 160gb SSD but apparently they can't change any orders. I started talking about cancelling my order to reorder and the guy offered me a 500gb external hard drive for free. I asked if I could get credit instead and he offered $100 back so now my real final price is about $1070. Pretty happy about that price and I can just buy an SSD later on.

Well I've been gone since this past Sunday on vacation. I've been trying to read all the pages I missed but after a few I realize that would take hours.

So I ordered on the 27th, and my order was delayed from the 7th to the 9th. I have a 160gb, 520m, and 4gb 1 dimm upgrades. I got the $25 coupon too.

I looked up the slice battery on the parts store and I'm intrigued. $150 with 10% academic discount and a $25 off coupon would make it either $110 or $112.5 depending on which they did first.

Did I miss anything big other than those two things this week?
