The student discount is from HP - you have to sign up for their Academy Purchase Program, it's available to students (of higher education I believe), faculty, and alumni. The other discounts people are talking about are generally from calling HP - some are price matches (with the Amazon model), some are empty cancellation threats (cancelling the order costs HP money), and some are from legitimate concerns, such as "I spent $100 more on an i5-520 when I'd be just as happy with an i5-450 now that I know how they stack up against each other".

As for E14-specific issues, nothing has been reported yet, but it's only made its way into the hands of a few consumers, so we'll have to wait for wider distribution to really know.

 

Seriously, I dont know what's holding me back from ordering...Wonder if HP will be looseygoosey on pricematching. Does anyone know if they pricematch AND let ya use academic discounts+LOGICBUY's coupon?

 

I tried to use the Logicbuy coupon with the academic discount at checkout, but I couldn't get it to work. No idea why. It's worth a shot, though. I'm not positive, but I think either the fatwallet or ebates 3% cashback works. Right, guys?

Rather than get a price match up front at the time of ordering, it looks like most people are calling in and getting (or trying to get) credits for the price match after the fact. But...it's worth a shot if you don't mind calling in to place the order. I created an account on the HP site, configured it how I wanted it, and the HP sales rep was able to access the configuration from there. Might be the way to go. If you do try it, let us know what they say.

 

I called in and tried getting the difference from the processor price drop, but wasn't able to get any funds back because I added the $1 norton special on my original order, which they no longer offer. so when they reconfigured my specs with the new prices (everything has to be the same) the new config actually priced out to be more! I also tried calling in to cancel my order just to see if they'd offer me anything but to no avail, they told me since it was in production they couldn't and if I still wanted to return it after I received it I had 21 days (nothing new there).

 

I just decided to order, and if anything new comes along, or a big discount, I have 2 weeks production time + 21 days to return it and order with the discount or different color or what not... I told myself the most I was willing to wait was a month, so this works perfect for me.

 

July 11th now......yet to be noticed if it has been shipped, or delayed. Was supposed to ship on the 9th

 

If I have an academic discount,when does it show the discount at check out?
Edit: Nevermind I already found it,it was because I opened a configuration I made before I signed for the discount.

I'm waiting for something better than 25% myself. I'll have funds available by this Wednesday, and if anything above 10% comes along I'll probably bite. Plus you can always cancel or return if a better deal comes along. Or HP may match (well, probably not the 25% BCB). Looks like I may go with the 160GB SSD. Why not, it's a good deal, and can always sell it if it doesn't work out for me or find a rock bottom deal on a 240GB+ SSD (which would be ideal size for me).

 

Is there any type of cash back that can be stacked with the student discount?

Its funny. I ordered late on the 29th and they told me that my computer was already built and would ship on Monday. Seems like all those that ordered right away did not see any benefit from it, which really sucks.

BTW, Skhope, what coupon did you use? Could it be combined with a student discount?

I'm seriously considering canceling and reordering to take advantage of the Intel SSD price. Or for that matter, I may just go ahead and put in a second order with the SSD and use the first laptop until the second one shows up.

Before I do this, I was curious to see whether or not anyone had gotten an answer as to what model of SSD the 256GB is? I've read through most of the pages of this thread and I'm pretty sure nobody has gotten an answer to that question yet.

Mine has been stuck on "Shipment Exception" in Shanghai for 2 days now as well. HP thinks if they at least provide a tracking number that gullible customers wont realize that it isn't actually being moved.

 

She can order the exact same Envy 14 with my configs for $930! Which is almost 300 less than I paid. I want to see how much the SSD config will turn out to..I will most likely get the 160gb SSD

 

Same. On July 9th 7:34 PM it was picked up but Fedex says it was received after their cutoff time. Hopefully it will ship out on Monday.

they're about the same price range, but the dm4t would have an ssd. i'm mostly worried about how the 5450 will perform compared to the 5650. will it be able to run l4d2 and tf2 on medium settings at least? will the screen make that much of a difference? are there any other pros/cons, besides the display, gpu, and backlit keyboard?

 

Expect a review (I am a fairly critical person so will be focusing on flaws, if any) with tons of pictures. My friend recently purchased a SLR camera and is photo-crazy atm.
