Can anybody look at the very top of their screen panel (where it meets the gasket) & check if yours appears to have a slight gap? What caught my eye was something shiny about three inches in from the left & the same from the right. Upon closer inspection, it appears that I can see the top edge of the panel (& slightly behind it). You have to look straight on to see it.

I just received mine...burning recovery disk now, going to do clean install..backing up swsetup and wallpaper folder. What I can see for mine right now, there is really small scratches on the back of the HP logo. There is some tape leftover on the right bottom side (i will remove the tape residue by a small cutter) and a blemishes which when I rub it with my hand its gone. However there is some blemishes like a rust color on the left corner side...this blemishes wont go with rubbing it, so I might use some cleaning chemical. Not sure if I got the whine, definitely the keyboard and track pad is flushed and the fan is not loud like some of the person here says.
-
just got mine.. Im loving it! screen looks sick, cant hear any whine, its great. I thought my battery cover was stuck at first but I got it off. brb playing with it!
-
Upon opening the box, there is a compartment for the slice if you order it, so its totally make sense why they hold your order, since they dont want to spend more money sending you the slice from CN to your location seperately.
-
lol,me too...I thought mine stuck too...you need to understand the mechanic-ism to unlock and lock it correctly.
-
I just got off the phone w/ 3 different HP people. I want to reach through the phone and strangle the Indian CSRs with names like "Jack" that I've been talking to.
I spent a hour answering questions like:
"Did you receive the email indicating that there would be a delay?" Yes...that's why I'm calling... "The date in the email is when the system will be delayed until."
No one knows anything about why my system is delayed, no one can expedite anything, no one can do anything other than "refer to a specialist" and offer to "watch my file every day and email or call w/ updated status." As to why my system was delayed when other people who ordered after me are getting theirs, they refer to some mystical component shortage without any clue of WHAT component is short, why, or allowing me to modify my order to suit. VERY frustrating. -
did you order the slice battery by any chance?
-
No I have a pretty vanilla order (IMO):

No tracking number available -
Probably the 640GB HDD, if you read Envy 14 thread...almost no one order that, most people here go with 500GB or 160/254GB SSD
-
I guess I was wrong about the last BCB! Thought we'd get one more (although it's still possible).
Oh well. -
Sorry to hijack a bit, but i'm really wanting this laptop and i have to order within the next few days if i hope to get it on time.
So this batch of envies seems to not have the annoyingly loud cpu whine, am i right?
Aside from whine have there been any other huge quality control issues? I'm hoping to get i5-450m, 4gb 1 dimm and 160gb ssd. I am in the UK so any potential problems which i could not fix myself, i would like to know about beforehand
thanks in advance -
most likely not.
-
it came! /squeals in excitement
-
Got my Envy.
NO physical imperfections noticed so far unless you count a tiny nick at the edge of my screen lid. -
what do people mean exactly by nick... i have difficulty visualising it sorry
-
Started up my comp. Happy to report there's no audible whine noise though the fan may be drowning it out. I will see whether it is still audible with the fans turned off.
-
Tiny little paint chip about 1-1.5 mm long. Not a dealbreaker for me personally.
-
As of now, I'm pretty sure we may not be getting out Envys this week. Hopefully, I will be proven wrong.
-
On the brighter side of things, batch #2 appears to have fewer problems if the opinions of people posting here are representative.
-
My envy is in BERMUDA
will be receiving it tomorrow morning =) -
BTW...
Is there any way I can access quickweb and have Windows starting up in the background? The default option seems to be to go to quickweb and manually switch to Windows. I know I can turn it off, but quickweb seems like a nifty feature for slow boot times. -
Mine just arrived.
Happy to see that the box is in good shape with no dings.
-
I don't think it's possible to have Windows start up in the background. Might as well disable the quick access since your boot times should be fairly quick.
-
I feel like I gotten mine because of a good deal and not because I really wanted one, because I am not really anxious. Anyway mine should be arriving in about 2 hours, so I'll post if I have any issues with it.
-
IMO, that sucks. I would totally send it back. I would only be okay if I accidently did it..
-
just received mine.
overall build quality seems good. screen is awesome.
Two gripes I have are:
Lots of keyboard flex, centered around letter "p", even with normal typing, the whole area around "p" depresses slightly, and even more so obviously if you mash on it.
Track pad is not flush on the right side. Left side of track pad is pretty much flush with body of computer, but the right side of the trackpad is notably higer than the body of the laptop, creating a ridge you can easily feel when you run your finger over it.
I got 30% bing back on this guy, so if I RMA it, will that get in the way of bing??
Also, do you guys think these two issues warrant a RMA?
Other info - I got stock except for 500GB HD
No whine from my i3.
Fan is on a lot, but is really quite quiet. -
It took me three separate messages (not counting replies) and about 2.5 days for me to get that email.

Mine is here. and it is 100% perfect
No whine, (even if my ear is at the keyboard)
No fan noise
No build Defects.
ITS SO PERFECT! (except that HP is a growing cancer inside my laptop that I will promptly kill with virtual fire.) -
out of interest, 1 or 2 dimm ram and why if you don't mind me asking?
-
i got the 1 dimm so I can install a 2GB I currently have. it was only 25 dollars extra and a 1x4gb is really expensive.. i know you didnt ask me but just incase you wanted to know
-
That's my plan, too. I'm getting a replacement from HP (dead/stuck pixel) and it should arrive the second week of August with extra.
-
I check the tracking update today at work and was excited that it would arrive today two days early. Needless to say I recheck when I get out of work to see someone signed for it even though; no one in my house got a ring or knock or anything. I called fedex who promised to get in contact with the driver. They never called me back, after I got home; I called again and this time they said the driver went home for the day. They will contact him tomorrow. The best part is someone signed off with wrong last name. Now I'm really pissed cause I'm pretty sure I will never see it. Their goes my bing cashback. What should I do??
-
I've purchased Madden 09 a couple of months ago. FedEx claimed it was delivered but I received it a few days.
Luckily it was only $2. Call FedEx. Call HP if you have to. Talk to the delivery guy. -
got mine no dings, but the quality is a lot worse than the first one I got. The top inside seems to be on incorrectly as there are random shifts in space between the two sheets. And it looks like the metal part has been beat up because there are scratches all around the edge of it. Keyboard flex is obvious, though not horrible, you can type well on it. The space bar is terrible though, it comes off very weird.
There is no CPU whine on my computer and the fans are quiet.
I will probably call and tell them to send me a new one. -
My initial impressions:
No noticeable build defects except the touchpad and keyboard flex issues mentioned by others.
Screen is awesome.
Fan seems to be running constantly but is fairly quiet and at a non-bothersome pitch to my ears. The way the screen blocks the rear vent reflects noise to you... without that it would have been really quiet.
I'm getting the CPU noise quite significantly and I have the i3-370m. The noise was the first thing I noticed when I started up the computer.
I hate the feel of the touchpad but I'll probably get used to it. The keyboard flex doesn't bother me.
edit:
The slightly loose battery compartment cover bothers me.
The sound quality through the headphone jack is really great and powerful. -
Just got mine. So far so good. This is probably as good as it gets in PC computers today. Nice screen (although not too bright as everyone claimed) Stylish looks and overall nice build quality. Fan is constantly on, but it's not intrusive unlike on m11x I had. I don't hear any whine either. Time to quit this thread
-
Nah. I'd rather not RMA only to find that it has other issues people have been posting. Touchpad's flush with the palmrest, no glue, no gaps/seams, rubber feet are balanced.
-
Anyhow...anyone got an alternative way to right-click? Can't two-finger click on the touchpad and I don't like two-finger clicking anyway. But I MUST say that clicking action is better with the Envy 14 than it is with the Macbook Pro 13 I temporarily owned. Doesn't require as much pressure.
-
just got mines, no nicks or large gaps.
but the damn hp logo led is not lineup right.
-
I called Hp, gotta waste my time getting police report! Fedex is horrible; if Hp resends me another laptop will I lose my bing cashback?
-
Just received my beautiful Envy 14 :d
I thought it was funny how my Delivery box was beaten up like crazy, but the Envy box is extremely sturdy and looked perfect.
There were some glue residue on the right side of my Envy but I just rubbed it off and they all disappeared.
So far no whine or dead/stuck pixels. I hear the fan but it doesn't bother me at all because my music and laptop fan is on 24/7 so I've gotten used to that sound.
I was hoping for some HP earphones again, or a screen wipe, but oh wells.
So far the Envy is near PERFECT!
Will update if any problems are discovered. -
wow that sucks :/
-
Sucks when everything seems perfect and then some stupid trivial issue comes up that makes you think about RMA'ing....
Thought mine was absolutely perfect....and it seems so....except one of my speakers doesn't work -
LOL. The nick is soooo tiny you have to come up close to see it. Otherwise no gaps, no glue, no misaligned logo, speakers seem fine, and no CPU whine. Damn. Best July ever.
1. I got accepted to my school!
2. I got my Envy!!
3. StarCraft 2 is coming tomorrow!!!!!!! -
What?!?!? your kidding :|
-
i wish i was.
-
i think mine is stuck too ..anyone know how to fix it?
-
WOW! Are you sure there isnt a driver problem? try smacking it or something.
-
wow... just got mine with the 160gb ssd and 30% bing. Everything seems to be perfect but the trigger to open the latch to access the battery/SSD is stuck..... I can't even open it.. I'm really disappointed and currently on the phone with HP to see if I can get a replacement and possibly keep my 30% bing..
-
Wow is the latch really that big of a problem? how bout u just dont open it? xD
