*Quasi-Official ENVY 14 discounts, delays, "mine is shipping" lounge*

Not much I can do to check that as right now i'm creating the back up dvd's which takes forever. I didn't find out about that bad speaker til i got back from class and unmuted the computer. Hopefully its a driver issue, but seeing as i've toyed with the stereo settings in windows with no success, i'm going to assume it isn't

 

Got mine an hour ago.

Should I wait for the battery to fully charge?

My latch is working fine--I wonder if some of you may have inadvertently broken it. When you slide the latch you have to make sure you aren't touching/holding the cover because the cover gets pushed down by the action of the latching mechanism.

 

wana post a pic on how to do it? or a short video? get mine tomorrow and i dont want to freak out if i dont know how to work it xD

Nah, my previous envy 14 with the 320gb was working perfectly. However, the latch isn't the only problem I have discovered with mines... I just noticed that the laptop doesn't even detect the battery (and yes there is a battery inside, I have checked)...

 

I'm worried that I might receive a defected one like the some of you. I would hate to wait 3 weeks and have to wait another 3 weeks...

 

How do I know if someone has replied to my posts? Do I have to just go back and find them?

 

damn HP and all their bloatware. Manually uninstalling it is taking forever -_- I don't have any blank DVD disks so i can't clean install

 

im doing the same. i think its safer since i havent gotten used to the laptop yet and its pretty much new in general.

 

Position the computer so the compartment side is away from you. The latch is firm so use both of your index fingers to slide the latch over.

The mechanism will slide the cover away from you and then the cover just lifts right off.

Hah. I timed it perfectly by accident. Ordered a 10-pack of DVDs on eBay on Thursday, got my notification of order later that day, got the blanks today!

 

Did they actually deliver it to the wrong address? Because it's happened that I've gotten a package that says "delivered" in the tracking but I couldn't find it anywhere. I called up HP and they sent a new one (it was speakers, not an entire laptop). A few days later Fedex delivered two packages - apparently they driver reported it as delivered but didn't actually leave it. So don't give up on it yet. Definitely call HP though, their customer service is quite helpful.

 

so after playing for couple of hours I gotta say it's a keeper despite minor imperfections. I am not picky as some people here, so I can live with most things that were previously reported. Touchpad is probably the biggest annoyance I have, but I think I'll get used to it.

 

Oh I forgot about buying dvds for the clean install. How big is this recovery stuff?

The HP order page says my ship date is July 22nd.
First it was the 22nd, then the 227th (???), then the 27th... now it goes back to the 22nd???

Woot. After having FedEx attempt to deliver at 215pm and my not being at home due to studying for finals, I finally have my E14!! I had to drive to the distribution center and wait an hour before the delivery truck that had my E14 came in.

Now I'm debating opening it right now or later since I have work at 7pm...

 

Open it now. The smell of a new HP Envy is a once in a lifetime experience!

 

I wish they had forgone the elaborate packaging and opted for the 550MHz GPU. That is my one and only gripe about this machine.

Packaging is really nice, but it's one time only. Playing games is more hours than I should experience!

 

Mine still is and always has been July 22, 2010. I got the email about the delay to the 27th but it never said the 27th on my order status on the HP website.

 

I agree with you completely. The packaging is just stored away or trashed... Useless.

 

I was really surprised by how nice the interior packaging is. The box almost feels like it's made out of wood. Also it has a "new car smell" when you open it.

 

Good thing I rarely use my optical drive. The squeaky noise that begins as soon as you start burning something is annoying!

 

so anyone with the stuck battery latch fix it?...does the latch go all the way covering the small battery sign?

OMG...its NOT broken ..i just didnt put enough pressure...lol...he was right..you need to put a decent amount of strength into it

 

Mine didn't cover the battery sign, it went up to it but that's about it.

On a similar topic, is anyone else's battery cover "loose"? Mine, even though it clicked to lock, it still wiggles, oh say 1mm.

 

Someone mentioned that many many pages back. Apparently sticking a piece close to the battery or next to the battery solves the problem.

I am returning mine. Touchpad is nowhere near flush. Terrible qc, I can see internal parts of computer through gap in touchpad. And now they are trying to take away my 100 credit saying that originally it would not cancel bing, but now they changed their policy?!? This is total bs

 

He did say someone signed for it. but yeah. that sucks.... esp on an expensive laptop

 

Got mine today and here's a quick unboxing video with quick size comparison between Envy 14 & Dell Latitude E4310/E6410, Acer Timeline 1810t, and Apple Macbook Pro 13" 2010 edition.

haven't had a chance to actually play with it much so will return with more impressions. Hope everyone else who got it today is enjoying their new "precious"!

 

basically HP is investigating and spoke to fedex who said the driver delivered to an unknown address and allowed somebody to sign for it with a different last name.. For Fedex sake I hope they resolve this tomorrow if not I will file a police report for theft against the driver.. I'm pretty sure it was inside job
