They do offer small coupons for the Envys around $50. It's better to use a student/EPP discount.
-
Thanks. So student/EPP + ebates would be the best price for now. Is there much of a point to holding off and waiting for a bigger discount, or is that pretty unlikely?
-
I would say to buy now with the Student/EPP and enjoy it, rather than wait for something that may or may not even come. That's just me though, so do what you feel like is best.
-
Mine is in greer SC right now... hopefully will get it soon... hopefully

Hey guys, I added a quick Youtube Video with some initial impressions after using my Envy 14 for ~5days. I compare it a bit with a Macbook Pro 13 (thickness, screen, etc.) and show the Envy 14's "unique" feature to output to 2 external monitors at once:
YouTube - HP Envy 14 Initial Impressions
Please check it out and if you're interested here's an unboxing video I made too:

Thanks for watching! -
Last update: Jul 31, 2010 3:30 AM Departed FedEx location MEMPHIS, TN
I told Tom Hanks not to get on my Fedex plane!!! -
What's going on? My status is still "Departed FedEx location" from Memphis, TN... Its been 16 hours.
-
it's probably at the same place as mine don't worry.
simpletracking shows it's in LA, CA.
Monday then. *sigh* -
My simple tracking just says:
7/31/2010 5:11:00 AM MEMPHIS, TN, US Left FedEx Sort Facility -
Where everyone's ETA tuesday?
-
Nope. I called the resolution line. I got a price match on a config matching mine except for the screen.
I'm not reordering! And hopefully not RMAing -
What config? On the HP website? I don't understand how you got a $100 price match if you ordered before they upped the price on the Radiance.
-
Mine's still sitting around, hasn't moved in over 24 hours. I assumed it would have come to local FedEx facility yesterday, as the FedEx rep assumed it would.
Man, I bet they actually expect to deliver it on August 3rd.
Well, if it comes to my local FedEx facility tomorrow, be assured, I'm going to go get it. -
I'm curious, I haven't ordered an Envy 14 yet but plan to in the next week. Of course, I'm a bit pissed that they raised the price of the screen since that's the whole reason I wanted this over the handful of other 14-15" laptops with Radeon 5650. What exactly is the process for price matching, and would it be possible for me to "price match" with their earlier price for the configuration that I want?
Also, it currently says something like estimated build date August 10, how long after the build date does it take to get to your house? I'm in California if that makes a difference. Classes start on the 26th for me so I need to be sure I get it around that timeframe. -
Wall of Voodoo Notebook Consultant
Good luck with "price matching" if you didn't have any previous orders. As for shipping...my first unit arrived 10 days after ordering with free 5-7 business day shipping; it was officially delayed one day after shipping. The second unit arrived in 11 days with free 2 business day shipping. Not sure if there's going to be a third unit. -
Yeah, my status is still "Departed FedEx location" Memphis, TN. Its been like that for 31 hours...
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
it's probably not going anywhere til monday virtuous.
or it's being held somewhere before being scanned monday morning.
edit: the reason why others had stuff happen on saturday is that some fedex local areas work on saturday, others don't. -
Mine has been sitting an hour away from me for almost 36 hours.
It seriously better be here tomorrow, at least at the local facility so I can pick it up... -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
well when mine got to memphis on a thursday night it got to my door by 1 pm that friday.
my door was in florida so...I expect you to get yours monday. -
The rep configured an envy exactly like the one I ordered and it came out to ~$96 less than what I paid (I'm guessing she left the screen default). I didn't ask her to, I was asking about fedex at first then I asked when I'd get the $50 battery price match credited to my card and she mentioned that the Envy line had its prices changed and asked if I wanted to see if I could get more money off. I politely agreed
I like being offered potential money
-
Call the FedEx store in Greer, SC today asking them if i could come and pick it up... They got some kind of attitude with me and said "Sir, You had no need to call us, we are putting your computer on a truck and it is being sorted still. We will deliver your package, you just wait." Of coarse that sounds nice typed out but it wasnt... they were really rude.
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
guy was having a bad day.
though I think it also is fedex policy to try to deliver it once before you can pick it up from their place. *shrugs* -
I really hope mine gets delivered tomorrow... The non-updated status makes it seem like it wont.
-
I think I'll be going to bed early tonight, so I can get up and wait.
I might still end up having to wait until 6PM if they can't get it out for delivery.
Will have to remember to put a note on my door for them to leave it, just in case. Many times they don't even ring the doorbell here, they just put the door tag on, it's ridiculous. -
Simple Tracking:
8/1/2010 4:30:00 PM LOS ANGELES, CA, US Arrived at FedEx Ramp
FedEx: "Departed FedEx location" Memphis,TN -
Mine is still chilling at the sort facility.
-
Hopefully ours will get to our local FedEx facilities by today.
-
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
I have my ENVY!
It is in almost perfect condition. There are no marks, scratches or dents. The screen viewing angles are perfect side to side, and pretty good top to bottom. The HP logo is perfectly lit, all speakers work and everything else seems fine, except for 1 thing.
I have a slight CPU whine, but it does not bother me as much as I thought it would. The CPU whine was my biggest fear, but after hearing it, it does not bother me at all. I can hear it when the room is dead silent. The sound gets louder the odd time, so I can hear it, but it doesn't bother me. It just sound like another computer noise along with the fans, cd drive and hard drive.
Other than the whine, the laptop is amazing. I LOVE the screen, it is so bight and full of color.
My touchpad is also slightly raised on the right, but does not bother me at all. I also have keyboard flex around P and E keys, but is unnoticable while typing.
Expect a full review in a day or 2, with a lot of pictures, benchies and comparisons by me. -
Well, I'm glad to see that my Envy 14 is out on the truck for delivery!
I left a note on the door just in case they decide not to ring the doorbell, and just drop the signature tag, as they do sometimes.
Now I'm just playing the waiting game!
Looking forward to it! -
Mine made it to the local FedEx facility this morning, but wasn't put on a truck. It's still on target for delivery tomorrow.
Has anyone been able to successfully pick up their Envy in that kind of a situation?
Edited to add: Heh, never mind. FedEx just updated the tracking to show that, two hours ago, they put it on a truck for delivery. Hooray! -
omgomgomg! finally shipped from shang hai. Question, if it says received after cutoff, then does that mean it has to go on another plane tomorrow?
-
Yeah, if it's received after cutoff, it's probably going to actually leave the next day or so.
It happened to us too.
Mine is currently on the truck for delivery! Could be here any minute! -
Mine too...but knowing how fedex runs in Phladelphia...I may not get inuntil about 12 tonight because I have to go to work
-
The new phone book's here! The new phone book's here!!!
Er, I mean...
Now to go through the process of creating the recovery discs, then I can run the Minimal Image Recovery.
The box seems a bit beat up, but hey, it's what's inside that counts, right?
Can't wait to see how this thing runs! -
Mine too! It's about time. Hopefully all of ours are in perfect condition.
-
Got mine this morning at about 9. In good condition: no cpu whine, minimal keyboard flex, touch pad level, hp light is fine, but a few little nicks around the frame but nothing even close to having me send it back in. As of right now I'm loving it.
-
do you notice any defects?
-
Still waiting... Ugh...
-
It came.
Appears to be perfect!
EDIT:
Initial impressions after poweron:
oooooooooh shiny!
well that wasn't that loud... (dvd drive)
oooooooooh shiny! -
Still waiting for the truck.
-
Mine is here! So far it appears to be in perfect condition!
We'll see after a bit. First thing I noticed, the build quality feels rock solid. The screen is amazing thus far! -
No gaps, no yellow, the dvd drive doesn't sound like it's exploding upon bootup, touchpad is great so far (though a bit slow)
I'll have to get used to the keyboard, but I always do
EDIT: WiFi reception is excellent! -
YAY! Same here
The only issue I have with mine is the lack of a fn key numpad (which I can make a replacement for) -
I am glad you guys received yours in great condition. Looking forward to opening mine.
-
I'm running through the Recovery Media Creation process now. I glanced over the system though, looking for any of the bevy of problems that people reported in the initial batches.
- The DVD drive seems flush, no sag on the slot that I've seen in some of the case shots.
- None of that weird yellow/white gunk that seems to show up on some of the earlier systems
- There are no alignment issues with the HP logo on the back of the display
- There's no noticeable CPU whine
- Screen looks great so far, no dust under the screen, and no dead/stuck pixels that I can see. The display on this thing is GORGEOUS.
- Trackpad seems flush with no problems (aside from my needing to tweak it)
Now, the minor bits. I do have some keyboard flux under the P and the Q, but it doesn't seem as bad as I've noticed in some of the early unboxing videos. And I only notice it when I'm actively looking at it. When I'm typing, it's not an issue and I don't notice it.
Also, there's a tiny bit of the seam that's not quite as flush as it should be. It's the seam between the underbody and the trackpad. It's right above the purposeless silver rectangle
(Re-reading that, I can see how that makes no sense... but hopefully someone understands it).
So far though, I'm really digging this. The two minor issues aren't worth sending this back for. My initial impression of the laptop has me very pleased. It's a solid machine and I really like how polished it is.
Still need to finish the Recovery Media Creation process, then I can do a recovery and start installing games.
-
Received mine overall it's in perfect condition. It's silent for the most part and even with the core i7 it only gets to be lukewarm
-
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
I figured out that the whine on mine was caused by the bluetooth. I disabled it and it is dead silent. I have had bluetooth on my 2 year old laptop and never used it, so this is perfect.
Not that the whine was bothing me (I could only hear it with my ear right against the keyboard, and who uses a computer like that), but it's nice to know what was causing it. -
I hope the truck doesn't come too late in the afternoon... really anxious to see the condition of mine after all of your posts.
-
Got it!
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
That's where the bluetooth radio is at and mine has a little bit of seam there too, but well...I think a tiny seam there is normal. A larger seam, not so much.
