$1400, jeez. Since the price went up $100bucks essentially, E14 doesnt seem like a good deal anymore... Do you think they'll pricematch the original CDW deal?

    Hi all,
Apologies for asking a question that's probably been beaten to death in the last 500 pages, but I read in the earlier pages that mentioning the Windows 7 student discount (Pro for $30) would help me knock down the price on the Envy if I got in touch with a sales associate. I chatted with someone, and they said that they could not knock down the price. To anyone who was able to successfully negotiate this, how did you go about it? Any tricks?

Funny story...I had a dream I received my second Envy 14 and it was totally screwed up. The screen was bendy and the laptop looked like it had bullet holes in it. I guess you could call it a nightmare.

I'm trying to get them to knock off some money from the full build - I actually have an unused Windows 7 Ultimate license that I received for free from school. The minimum I can go when putting in my order is Win7 Home.

I might buy the Envy 14, but I have some questions about the shipping if anyone could please answer them.

After i customize it (only a processor upgrade to i5) the build date says August 17th i think. How accurate is the build date? Will it be delayed? I need the laptop before the 27th of August which is why i'm wondering.

    Thanks for the help

My first one shipped one day before the estimated ship date and got to my house in like 4 days. The second one I ordered beat the estimated ship date again and I am waiting for it now. It will most likely get to your place before August 27th.

Unless you ordered windows7 pro or any other edition of windows 7 and are asking for some money back because you're a student and can order it directly from MS for cheaper, they're not going to give you money back.

They are pretty accurate. My first envy came 2 days earlier than the estimated delivery date which is build date + (5-7days).

That sums it up. I am a student and can get Win7 pro for $30. The 10% student discount they're offering is basically worthless since I am forced to pay full price for a version of Windows 7 with the laptop.

You can't really ask them to "Oh hey, I got a copy of windows 7 already, so don't load a copy of windows and while you're at it, give me some money back since you're not loading a copy of windows."

You can only get money back on things that are not standard. Windows 7 pro is an upgrade. Windows7 home is not, so it would not make sense for you to ask for some money back on something that comes standard.

And the person who complained to HP upgraded to windows7 pro and asked for a partial refund since he can get windows7 pro from MS for $30. You're not doing the same. You're asking for money back on windows7 home, so you can't use him as an example to justify getting money back.

So it's been a while since I've checked E14 prices/deals. What's the current good deal since the price dropped dropping Radiance screen? Anything for as close to $1000 as possible with a 450m?

FedEx has really been slacking on the shipping this time around. My first Envy 14 arrived at the destination sort center in around 2 days. The one I'm currently waiting on has taken 2 days just to get to anchorage. It actually arrived in Anchorage last night and has just been sitting there all day today.

    @dookie11
id say the cheapest now is to order from hp with the EPP discount. Its ten percent off so base price comes down to 899+50 for i5+shipping+tax(depending on the state)

I didnt feel like paying for shipping or tax so i bought from newegg for 1,125. it comes with 6 gb RAM, 500 gb HDD, and an i5 450. If u price that out on hp's site its around 2 grand plus tax. So i personally thought that was the best deal. (However its sad that i made the omission of the radiance screen)

or u can always buy a refurb envy15 off their site for cheap?

anyone expecting for a promotion/discount something on envy 14 in coming days? i badly miss Bing cashback :(..
Actually i am getting my scholarship cheque next week and planning to buy Envy 14..
Since i am based in Lahore, Pakistan will my visa card work at hp's online store? Also how many days it takes Envy from order to arrive at home? Actually an uncle of mine is coming from NY on 27th and i am planning to ship at his house so that he can bring it here..
Also is it possible that the store price in NY could be lower than online? which one is the cheapest?
Currently with my configuration Envy 14 comes to $1,290 which i want lower than $1100 (Cannot leave that radiance display :S)

It's possible a coupon might come around. Just hold off until the last minute - that's what i'm doing for the Envy 14. The worst that can happen is you waited a few weeks. The best that can happen is you save at least a hundred bucks. With all the negative press about HP and their ceo, they might need to boost sales by putting out better coupon codes. I remember I used a 30% off coupon on my dv5 2 years back at the end of august/early september. I'm hoping they will do something similar this year. Fiscal year also ends end of September, so I think there's a good chance coupons will come out. But if those coupons will be for the Envy, I don't know.

actually 1200+ is too much for me because 1 Dollar is equal to 86.5 Pak rupees these days which after currency coversion comes out to be 100,000+ rupees which is a lot to spend here in Pakistan considering the buying
power of majority of people. I want to save money for other things

damn I have to trade off between either a few months or current high price :(

"Oh wow" - that's literally what I said when I saw that my laptop has shipped. It's an exchange for my first E14 whose touchpad wasn't flush and had an irritable whine. I sent the first one back on the 8/2 and the replacement was just shipped today 8/9 11:20pm Shanghai time.

So hopefully I can get it by end of this week thanks to HP bumping me up to 2day delivery without me asking for it =D.

So what it seems is that the average order to receive period is 11-12 days. Ummm Guys can't I get an envy straight from some hp store in NY? I just need that radiance screen with i5 which Is missing in the quick ship model. I'm located out of USA and will get that envy via a uncle who is coming to my country from USA in end of month. Also what tips you can give me regarding checking of envy in USA by my uncle before bringing here because once it gets here it would be difficult for me to send it back for an exchange.

No stores in the US carry the envy14 right now. What you can do is ask your uncle to go to Canada which I assume is not that far from him and pick one up there.

If he does decide to go this route, have him check whether the display light on the lid is centered, whether there is a dead pixel, the touchpad being flushed and centered, major dings, and finally the CPU whine.

Did you notify Bing about your exchange?

I notified them twice because they were taking their sweet time getting back to me. I think it took them 5days. The first response was that my cash back wasn't cancelled. However, the second response said my cash back was cancelled and I should email them my orders with exchange numbers and what not. If they do cancel, I will just have to raise hell.

I'm sorry but I am new to some of this stuff so i have a few questions
    1. What is a display led?
    2. What do you mean by touchpad being flushed and centered?

And Canada is quite possible because my aunt lives near Toronto. For how much I can get one with i5 and radiance screen and 500 hdd? :)

Hey tr1p7s. What was your estimated build date?

I ask because I just sent my Envy 14 for RMA on 8/6 and received an estimated ship date of 8/24. Want to see if they gave you an extremely long estimate as well, but shipped it much earlier.

    1. The Display LED that he is referring to, I believe, is the HP Logo that lights up on the bottom left of the lid on the laptop. A lot of people have been complaining that the light isn't uniform throughout the whole logo. http://www.logichp.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/hp_envy_13_logo-closeup.jpg

    2. Another thing that people have been complaining about is that the Touchpad isn't flush with the palmrest that surrounds it. Meaning, the touchpad is slightly raised compared to the palmrest. It really is a very minor issue, but a lot of people have been complaining.

No idea, you would have to ask them to go to the shop and check. I hear Bestbuy and Futureshop sells them, but don't hold me to it. I live in California and Canada is a long drive from here.

I'm currently in the "Order in production" stage. I have an estimated ship date of August 17th and I ordered on August 7th.

Most likely you will be in the order in production stage next, what comes after that, I don't know.
