We'll soon have the bestest health care, just like Canada thanks to those of you who voted for the current regime. I can't wait for the tax hikes so I can help subsidize health care for those that don't want it and are forced to have it or penalized. There will be nothing like waiting 8 months for a routine appointment. Welcome to AmeriKa where the lack of innovation and mediocrity will be the new norm. Oh yes they did...
My bad...it's already in place. Just look at the Envy 14 owners that accept the Envy's pitiful quality. Had to keep it on topic.
-
ahaaha, lol what's wrong with your envy? I'm guessing it's still better than the self destructing m11x hinges? lol
-
Thanks, got the weight but cant seem to find the box dimensions. But that will do to get a rough shipping cost estimation.
-
Well im glad the radiance screen option is back up, but im not to happy about the screen being 100 bux more. I thought 200 was enough, glad its back up still..
-
What cash back, if any, (ebates/fatwallet/other) rebate works with HPA (student)?
-
Question for you guys: it seems like this screen option has been disappearing and reappearing quite a few times just within the past week. Do you think it is going to continue to do this and at one point may drop off altogether? And if I were to order it right now with the higher res screen, would it take quite a while to process and ship because it seems like they are in EXTREMELY low stock
-
everything people will tell you is all going to be speculations. IMO, They probably are using the same supplier and due to the price increase for them, it cascaded to the customers, therefore the 300 dollar price. You can keep waiting, but you are taking a risk for another stock shortage or another price hike. People waited for another 30% BCB and, in return, they had to pay an extra 200 compared to if they would have just bought it.
-
F0ck HP for this price increase. $ 300 for a 14.5" is a bit too much.
Its those FU*KIN Dr. Dre ads promoting Beats Audio, they are capitalizing on the demand for the Envy.
I'd say wait till the 'Back to School' season is done, I'm certain there'd be a coupon / price drop that'd apply to the model.
Since BCB is no more, I can wait, since I'd be paying near retail... but if they do price increase again (on the screen) they can go 2 hell. -
Size 17" x 13" x 7".
-
$300 for a screen upgrade is incredibly absurd.
-
If you think that's bad, check out the MacBook SSD upgrade prices. Yikes!!!!
-
Only other one is Sony, and only the Z, which runs from $1900-$4000+. I'd consider paying that if I felt it would last, but I don't get that feeling with Sony products.
-
I think the RGB screen up on the Dell Studio 16" was also $300. People wanted it, but not enough to make it worthwhile, so the only option was to discontinue it.
-
I thought they discontinued it because it used too much power, resulting in both poor battery life and severe throttling issues.
-
Im guessing its 300 right now because they have a very low supply and a high demand. Thus a high price. Probably with in the next month when they get more, its will be back to just 200, which is really just 100 (+200-100).
-
I would like to see results between 1366x768 screen and radiance screen battery life. I don't know that it will make a significant difference in the HP, considering most people are getting > 4hrs with the Radiance screen. Now there's no reason they couldn't go with a higher res, just not RGBLED. I would have taken a decent quality 1080p over the Radiance @ 900p to be honest with you.
-
I think they're gonna keep the 300 price. Theres no competition on the windows side against apple and its still cheaper than apple IMO
-
At $300, I am going to skip the envy 14 and go to a dv6t:SE, and then buy an aftermarket LCD for $100-200 with 1600x900 or better resolution. I can buy 2 of the screens (different models) to experiment with for the upgrade price on the envy 14.
-
Yeah, it's really an under reported trend how awful screens have gotten on the PC side over the past few years. I was fooling around on a nearly a decade old budget Compaq Presario last night and was blown away at how beautiful the screen was compared to the typical consumer displays of today. Now that Win7 has kind of neutralized any os advantage OSX had, I really think the screens are a big part of what is driving Apple's success in the laptop market. And the way Best Buy displays computers really helps Apple too. I was looking around this weekend at a store, and none of the PC laptops even had sample pictures loaded in to Windows. The plain Windows desktop was literally the only way you could try to gauge the quality of the display. Meanwhile, a few feet over you have the beautiful MacBookPro screens being demoed in all their fully functional glory.
Bottom line- given the current state of the market, $300 is not a "rip off". Screen quality in the PC world is at all time low, and with almost no one willing to offer decent upgrades, the few that do are going to be able to charge a heavy premium. -
1366x768 is HORRIBLE. Yes it is "720p HD resolution", but computer monitors should have far more pixels than a TV.
-
Where do you find aftermarket screens? Maybe I can buy the envy 14 with 1366x768 and get an aftermarket screen for it.
-
I thought of this as well but Ebay turned up empty handed. Could be an interesting alternative.
-
I believe buying an after-market screen is what many of the UK buyers are planning on doing, seeing as we've been "stuck" with the option of only having the Brightview screen. HP Partsurfer has been mentioned but as of yet none of the HP parts have been available to buy yet
-
Doesn't really matter to me. I took the plunge yesterday. Waiting so long for a worth cashback (BCB) or some other awesome deal caused me to actually dish out MORE money in the end what with the $300 price hike. Lesson learned. Whatever! I paid less for this puppy than someone walking into an Apple store buying the same *semi* equal product. I'm sure I'll be happy when I get it. $1300 price tag won't seem SOOO bad. (Still, had to use two credit cards. eesh.)

I ordered my E14 with the Radiance screen on 8/17 during the 2-3 days that it became available again at the original price before "running out" and being, what we thought, was unavailable for good. After a couple of days I decided to cancel my order because I refused to be put into a position of possibly having to accept the standard screen in an exchange/swap if I had to RMA my E14 if it had non fixable problems. When it became clear that the problem was not an indefinate wait to find another supplier but just an adjustment of the price point to $300 for the Radiance option I called HP to see if I could un-cancel my order since I had not yet gotten an official cancelation notice and my order status said "in production". They said that they would try to un-cancel but most likely I had been too late on the original cancellation and it probably would ship but they would gladly submit the un-cancel request just in case. They also said that they would honor the $100 discount they had offered if I did not cancel when I called orginally to cancel. If it ends up shipping this will mean that not only will I still get the E14 with the Radiance screen as a $200 option instead of the current $300 but that with the extra $100 discount it will really cost me just $100 over the standard screen. This is all very good news. Now I just have to wait and see what happens. The estimated ship date is still 8/31 which is what it was when I ordered it. I'm glad I decided to keep it!
-
I ordered the other day and just got a call from HP wanting to make sure I was the one who ordered this. I assume that is normal? Just wanted to know if I initiated the order, I said yes, and he says "thanks, that's all we needed"
-
I got the same call.
-
same here.
-
Hi, I was able to find that with the Ship to order version, the dimensions are: Packaged: 17.0"(W) x 6.4"(D) x13.0"(H) and weight is Packaged: 11.0 lbs
-
when you say buy an aftermarket screen, are you talking about a standalone screen to use at home, or one to put in the dv6 in place of the brightview?
If the latter.. how easy are such replacement screens to find/install? -
i think he means installing it on it.
-
Ship-by date was August 31st, but my order just shipped! I ordered on the 17th.
-
see below:
-
I ordered mine on the exact date and it also shipped from the factory today.
-
Mine shipped yesterday morning at 8 am. will have it by 10:30 am on Thursday the 26th. not bad for free 5-7 day shipping
-
Dude! I think HP gave us free two-day shipping. Nice!
-
Mine was shipped with free 2-day also.. Aug. 26th/before 10:30am arrival. I guess they made all of the recent Radiance orders in one batch.
-
Not mine, which is fantastic because its now been almost 2 months since ordering my first envy and I still don't have anything to show for it. But all bitterness aside, I'm happy for you all
and hope the recent build quality issues have been addressed in some way. Its a fantastic system, it just needs a little more spit and polish on the QA end.
-
I ordered my Envy on Saturday when they came back with the Radiance screen ($300 price tag hurt a bit). My build date is September 2nd though... sucks =/
-
It'll be sooner.
-
My build date was Aug 30 - it's on its way and should be delivered 26 Aug.

Radiance Gone Again
-
This just sucks.
Was going to by the german model three weeks ago but saw a listing for the upcoming 14-1100 that would release tomorrow. Decided to wait for that as it was same price as as the old version but with bigger HD and faster CPU.
Today when I was going to place the order they had changed the specs from Radiance to Brightview.
Decided to buy the 14-1000 with Radiance that also was supposed to turn up in stock tomorrow. Phoned in the order only to be told it was no longer available. I just hate when companies can't get the specifications correct.
Last chance to grab a radiance version would be to place a US order and off course, its no longer available. Seems like faith, Im not supposed to get a Envy 14
-
And I was just waiting for a deal on envy
-
Wow, this one time I was lucky to be an early adopter!
-
I bet they are going to raise the price by $100 AGAIN. This would be the 4th time... First they said radiance would be standard on every envy for a base price of $1000, but it launched at $1100. Second time, they lowered the initial price to $1000 but made radiance on it a +$200 option. Then they removed it as an option for a while and brought it back as +$300. Fourth time is right now... so get ready for a +$400 radiance display. Also notice they removed the 160GB SSD drive option, but added a few more CPU options. The 256GB SSD price was slightly lowered, it used to be +$565
-
So this is probably just temporary due to stock, right? I was planning on ordering an Envy 14 a week from now with the radiance display. They wouldn't take it away for good?
EDIT: I just talked to a sales rep. The company that made the Radiance displays went out of business. Option is gone for good. -
I'm thinking of pulling the trigger
$999 base model + $300 = $1299 minus $129 for the student discount = $1170 + $100 tax would put me at $1270 final price.
Or should I wait for more deals. Btw are there any other expenses I'm forgetting about?
Radiance display no longer an option for envy??
