Second confirmation on G.SKILL 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Laptop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBSQ. although i am having an issue with it, looking at cpu-z it appears to only be running at ~800mhz when its rated for !1600mhz does any know why this is? maybe because its in a dual channel config?

that's just how cpuz reports it.
ddr1333 reports as 666 -
starting from 12.7 beta, opengl now runs on the dgpu when set on high performance, just like directx games. that's why there was more heat
if you want it to run on igp, you have to set to power saving. -

Sorry if this is dumb question (I'm new to overclocking in general)
It seems most people have set P0-P6 in different clock speed with diff voltages.
But is it safe to put all the P-State in same speed as well as voltages? Also, if it is then is it really worth it?
I want my laptop to stay at fastest speed even when I'm surfing web or loading programs.
I got a stable P0 state and I have tested that same speed and volt at P6 with Prime95 and it stayed stable just as if it was at P0. -

Does anybody know if DDR3-1600 will work with the dv6-6135dx model? I had contacted G.SKILL about what memory was correct for it and they said the DDR3-1333 I was thinking of was indeed the correct model: Newegg.com - G.SKILL 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Laptop Memory Model F3-10666CL9D-8GBSQ
Just wondering if anybody has tried the 1600. -
guys, please help me,does somebody know where to order a dv6z amd quad replacement fan besides from HP?i bought one at amazon and its really crapy.
the metal thingy part of the motor where the fan blade is attached to is full of rust that when i rotate the fan it feels rough and dust particles from the rust falls off and its supposed to be new.
can somebody help me,i don't wanna order one again that i wont be able to use. -
What drivers are everyone running for Guild wars2?
-
1600 only works with MX chips - with an M chip I think it just gets treated as 1333. You might as well save your money.
I have the dv6-6135dx with the A8-3530MX and my 2 x 8gb of G.Skill ddr3-1600 works - although it is the bigger (2 x 8gb) and slower (CL 10).
This is what I have:

Hi. I made a thread about overclocking my Asus A53Z but so far no one has responded. So I figured I'd ask here.
Right now, I'm running PRIME95 and my K10STAT is set to a P0 of 2150 Mhz and 1.075 voltage. The torture test has been running for about 3 minutes and 50 seconds. Temps are around 55-56 C for each core, and 54-55 C for the THRM (I think this is the computer in general?).
Does this sound alright so far? Or are the temps too high? I read in the first post that anything under 85 is okay but isn't that extremely high for overclocking? I'm trying to hopefully get 2.4ghz as the stock clock speed on this laptop, so that it doesn't have to boost to get to it since it doesn't seem to boost on its own anyway. Is that dangerous? Will it adversely affect the life I can expect out this machine?
Thanks. -

I'm confused over something:
I own 2 llano laptops, one has the a8-3500m, the other has a8-3530mx. I assume the mx's run better (have higher stock clocks) than the m's. But after overclocking both I discover that the 3500m has a higher max voltage (1.3250V) than the 3530mx (1.2875V). After stability testing I also discover the 3500m can run at the same frequencies as the 3530mx AT LOWER VOLTAGES
ex. 2.0 GHz: 1.0125 V for the 3530mx, 0.975 V for 3500m
ex. 2: 500 MHz: 0.7125 V for 3530mx, 0.65 V for 3500m
So is the 3500m supposed to overclock better than the 3530mx? Or did I get a golden a8-3500m? Or a crappy 3530mx? -
Heck, many of the A6's clock as well as the A8's. I was volt limited on my A8-3510MX and was a bit disappointed because of it. The only real advantage of the MX over the M is the MX can accommodate 1600MHz RAM whereas the M has max 1333MHz.
-
So for overclocking/undervolting the m's are preferred over the mx's?

i know this is my first post, but i think i messed up bad.
I used this guide to overclock my a8-3520M, in a HP DV6
everything was great until I installed and ran Cool Sense, i know i know, but at the time it sounded like a great idea, i didnt know it would mess with this BIOS
i dont think i can control my clocks anymore, i certainly cant lock my p states
I can set the limit of GHz, but i cant lock it from within,
meaning i can set the limit to go 2.7 GHz max, but I can lock it at 1.8GHz and then have 2.7 as a max threshold.
i did a system restore so cool sense is gone but its settings is still in the BIOS and my laptop runs 10C higher now, even idling.
maybe if i can flash the BIOS again ..
so thats where im at now, I actually started all this with a fresh install of Windows 7 over an SSD drive (crucial m4)
i used one of the drivers on HP's page to flash the BIOS but it actually downgraded me from F18 to F17
i tried to install the newest BIOS version, F21 but the flash program from HP (InstantFlash????( wouldnt let me update.
i think im stuck, I hate the way my clocks at acting right now, everything was great before cool sense.
any help, ideas, sugguestions? -
Just go in to bios and select set default. -
As soon as I installed Cool Sense, my CPU went from 3% idling to 20% idling and i could hear my fans and see the temps rise so i knew something was wrong.
After the system restore, it seemed to do the trick, but I did what you said and set the BIOS to default just now.
Im going to try again and get my BIOS from F17 to F21 and then try the MSI tool to tweak the iGPU, im thinking I will get better results from that tool if I upgrade the stock 6GB, take out the 2 GB stick and put in a 4GB DDR3 or a 8DDR3 stick in its place for a total of 12GB RAM.
I think this unit the a8-3520M allows upto 16GB RAM Max, according to Crucial's scan of the unit -
Need a bit of assistance with my overclocks. I have mine at [email protected], tested stable at 30min on prime95. Works great with Dark Souls. However when I try it with GW2, I occasionally get massive frame rate drops, almost down to 5fps. I played in windowed-mode and noticed that the clocks occasionally dip down to the lowest 800mhz state, then back up to smooth 2.8ghz. I'm pretty sure it's not throttling because of the heat, which just hovers around 80-82, and it doesn't happen when I play Dark Souls.
I don't have the same problem when I play GW2 on my 2.0ghz profile. Sure it's not as buttery smooth as my 2.8ghz, but it's consistent with no fps drop, even on small skirmishes on WvWvW. But my 2.8ghz drops to 5fps when just running through the world. What's going on? -
My laptop throttles on skyrim once I get past 80C. I see consistent drops in frame rates.
How is your laptop so cool @ 2.8 ghz? mine hit 80 around 2.4 ghz. Did ya mod it? -
Because there is throttle due to power draw, just do prime95 + furmark/kombustor, you will see instant throttle to your lowest p state.
-
-
you can set same pstate across the list, but i would say just use 2.0-2.4ghz (which dun throttle much with moderate GPU use and 2.2-2.4ghz is around a low end SB i5, probably gpu bottleneck before cpu bottleneck) as the board is not decided for that kind of load.
Safe bet would be set like 2.2-2.6ish across the list of pstate and see if it get rids off the horrible dips. -
after 2 days, this is what I have....
this is my setup
One SSD drive (Crucial m4)
One standard HDD (5400)
PS: SSD helps keep the temps cooler (barely)
my clocks
#1 Medium
This was the first clock I started with, im pretty sure it had higher marks that were stressed with prime95, then scaled back when I improved my later profiles. This will idle at 800mhz most of the time, when playing SD content it will stay at 800, and will allow seemless HD playback as it transitions to 2Ghz.
#2 "SuperIntensity"
This was first stressed with prime95 for 30 minutes and then adjusted later for max performance.
You would think this is for gaming, but its really for video encoding. With this, I was able to
Rip a 21 minute Tv show from a Blu-Ray disc and encode from the 1080p video off the disc to a 720p MP4 in 35 minutes. With stock clocks, this process would take 43-50 minutes.
Its also able to rip a 42 minute TV show from a DVD and encode it to a SD file (720 x 402) in 11 minutes.
This settings where I got my high temps, when I scaled it to 2.8Ghz the temps rose past 86C so i scaled down to 2.7Ghz mac and got an average of 79C to 83C mac during its highest point of operation.
Protip: Try Ganged Mode in this setting for single thread/dual core applications.
#3 "HighIntensity"
This is a spinoff if you will of the #2, but with a lower p6 state should the CPU start throttling, it will go to the lowest p6 state to get your temps down while trying to keep a good FPS rate, on more demanding games, I suggest using #2 and watching your temps closely.
#4 "Undervolt"
This profile is used when the battery is unplugged, gives me an average of 3 1/2 to 4 hours battery life while web browsing and playing the occasional streaming video. The volts on this are as low as it gets i think, i went below 7 volts once and got a hanging screen within seconds.
Careful of this setting is your streaming HD video, it tends to stutter on 1080p. So if you experience that, shift back to Medium. This works well for web broswing though and will extend battery life.
Temps
Heres my temps (currently while idling/web surfing at the #1 "Medium" setting)
i honestly have no idea how it reached 92C, im assuming while ripping the DVD on the #2 setting because its the only time i wasnt watching the temps closer, only the time of the task.
Its been pretty stable, only one BSOD ever, which I obviously scaled back after. CPU can idle at 1% but feel free to stress test. -
just want everyone to know you have to KEEP TWEAKING your settings, ive already made several voltage tweaks to #1 and #4 settings and while underpowering #2 and stabilizing #3
every setup is different and each post is meant to be an example or starting point not a defacto standard -
I'm currently running the AMD Catalyst 12.x (9.001 display driver) drivers and have noticed a decent boost in FPS. Here's the link to them: AMD Catalyst 12.x (9.001 September 4) Unofficial - Guru3D.com Forums
As usual, I'd make a system restore point before you do stuff with drivers. That way if you mess up you can just roll back to the restore point.
Something interesting about these drivers is that if you have ULPS on, the clocks of the dGPU are set down to 0/0 instead of 100/whatever when it's not being used. Also, I wouldn't bother overclocking these drivers as the performance difference between these and whatever you probably have installed and overclocked is moot. You'd probably have better performance even without the overclock. -
anyone specifically know where the topic that had the benchmarks for overclocked RAM in a Llano is?
to be more specific, it had some fancy chart pics and explained in detail the different between a boost in speed for 1333 mhz and 1600 mhz RAM sticks while overclocking the GPU
Gonna buy a 8GB RAM stick so I wanted to look at the benchmarks to see the best type of RAM to buy and where the improvements would be -
im trying to ugdate my bios from f17 to newer f21 but im having a insydeflash bios program error, says this bios is not for your notebook PC. the version of rom files isn't newer than that of BIOS...any help please.....

Hi!
I want to say thx to your guide, it was very helpfull.
I have my Laptop for over 3 months and I was able to clock it to 2,867ghz stable with 1.3125v (played hours of games without crashing)
Today I overclocked the GPU to 680/950 and it seems stable so far(stock voltage)
The problem I have is temp. My CPU raises to 89 and my GPU about 82.
It doesn't throttle yet, but I'd like to lower the temps a bit.
I bought that one NotePal U Stand [3-port USB HUB] - Cooler Master - Leading Provider of Computer Case, Cooler, Power Supply, Laptop Cooling, Gaming Peripherals but it was barely 2 degrees cooler.
Suggestion would be appreciated thx
EDIT: those temps are only with BF3, other games don't go above 80 -
wow!
I received my Notepal U3 today, and my temps with BF3 went down by approxymatly :
8 degrees for CPU (81 full load after 1h)
7 degrees for GPU (75 full load after 1h)
I haven't received my 3 others fans yet, nor applying new thermal paste(still original)
So far for 30$ it's pretty good, are very quit  -
Please give me an advice, which bios i could use for my dv7-6b04er (video - 6755G2, 6620G & discrete 6750M) - Musho's BIOS or camolil's BIOS? Somebody tryes them for the such note as my?
Thank you. -
-
I just upgraded to Windows 8 and found out that K10stat was removed from the start-up options. Does it mean that it doesn't work with Windows 8? I tried to run it again but for some reason it didn't work.
-
Been happily playing Guild Wars 2 and just want to squeeze out more fps, especially for the WvW. I'm still using 12.1a and wondering if I should finally update to 12.10 (or is it 12.11) so I can use the Guild Wars 2 crossfire Application Profile.
I'm also interested in overclocking the integrated 6620g like this guy did here. Has anyone tried doing crossfire with both overclocked iGPU and dGPU? -
iGPU OC doesn't work ,don't brother, the clock on afterburner/kombustor lies ~~
CAP helps as long as there is update for game, not necessarily crossfire. Newer driver should help as well, but don't expect much. Also, driver and cap profile do not need to match. you can use old driver and new cap. 12.10 is pretty much bug free and stable as far as I know of though.
Make sure to make a restore point(windows one is fine) before upgrading since AMD driver upgrade is kind of meh . -
greetings .. first i want to say thank you all for this great thread. its in my favorites and ive read through it several times and have used the tweaks. i particularly use the fusion tweaker and rev up things to 2.3ghz. i have a hp dv6-6135dx i have the gpu at 740 880 using the special bios made by camilo i think its called which is in the beginning of this thread. the cpu is an a8-3500m. i upgraded the ram to corsair cmsx4gx3m1a1600c9 1600mhz 8gb. but the cpu isnt capable of anything more than 1333mhz. i bought an a10-4600m hoping the laptop would accept it. it does.not. although the cpu fits it apparently isnt the same archetecture. it wont boot. sadly i cant use this faster cpu unless someone here knows a fix. maybe there is a bios update? hp should come out with a bios to enable this cpu cause it would bring the performance and value up by several hundred bucks. i also upgraded the wiresless n to a killer 1202 so i can have blutooth.. and im ordering a samsung ssd. i do have a 750gb 7200rpm model wd7500bpkt00pk4t0 hdd that i put in. the factory hd is just too slow.
also i use a heatsink grease called phobya hegrease extreme. its a really good compound and works! i was going into 60degrees idle and no cpu tweaks just gpu tweak..and using the cheap white crap you get at radio shack. this new stuff brings everything down to 35 degrees idle. this grease is rated highest marks. i recomend it.
until there is a fix for this laptop to accept the a10 ill stick with the a8. upgrading to an a8-3550mx is not worth the cost vs performance unless i can find one for 50bucks.
thanks for your responses.
lets see if we can get hp to make a bios to allow the a10 cpu.
cheers! -
trinity is not swapable, it had been said thousand of time ~~ xD

So , I tried it.
Sux. I really wished it would cause wow that would be awesome upgrade... -
I want to remove the whitelist of my BIOS (F21 version), so does it matter wich modded BIOS I choose, Musho's BIOS or Camolil's BIOS? I have a DV6-6170br and confirmed that it uses the same BIOS as DV6z-6100.
-
Only camolil bios with unlock menu have whitelist removal, but note that semi brick may happen out of random because it unlocked menu. Avoid intel card, get the killer 1102 or the generic version(athero 9382/AR5BHB116) if you are looking fro better signal/5ghz.
the semi brick happen more if windows fail to load or force power off, it wasnt a problem for me. (most is once/twice per month, pop cmos battery and good to go) intel card seem to have driver conflict and cause BSOD. -
-
use the non OC, the OC one freeze the machine. you need 3 antenna to get 450mb, so you need to route a extra antenna. (the dv6 come with 2)
semi-brick though, well it depends.. avoid going into bios and force shut during boot should be pretty much safe. You can always flash back to stock. -
Awesome! I will do that. The reason I want to get the 1103 is that it is 3x3 mimo too, so I think I will be okay. When you said the DV6 has 2 antenas, you mean the wireless adapter that comes with the DV6? Or the DV6 has actually two antenas inatalled?
-
It only have 2 antenna installed.
-
I did some reading and because I have a little experience I won't try install a third antenna. I will take a look on the 1102 or 1202 adapters. Thks.
-
DONT GET THE Killer N 1202.
It has bluetooth and as soon as you turn the laptop on it will not go past the bios screen that says... "your bluetooth device is not compatible. Please remove it"
SO Im gonna go with another model. Maybe 1102...
I found this out today when I goto it in the mail and installed it.
Also. Ive looked into an A10 Laptop with dual graphics
Best bang for thr buck is a laptop by Samsung with the A10-4600M and the graphics are 7660G + HD7670M. The 7660G is attached to the Cpu. The 7670m is dedicated. Sale is found HERE
So the price is $600.
I did some research and found that the 7670M is almost Identical to the 6750M that we are all overclocking. Here is the kicker. The 7670M doesnt have any bios overclocks at this time. So basically our 6750M overclocked ( I use the Camilo bios ) is actually faster! So then I look at the cpu to see if an upgrade to an A10-4600m is worth the money. I could keep my 3500m and overclock it to A10 Speeds. But wont get the 1600mhz memory speeds the A10 has. Also The gpu in it is not as fast as the A10 gpu. But If I go to the A8-3550mx I see a huge gain in cpu speed. plus I get the 1600mhz memory speeds. And when overclocking the A8-3550mx with the also overclocked 6750M I cant see any reason to buy an A10 laptop.
The A10 setup would yield a tad bit better results but not so much that I would get an entirely new laptop. If I do a simple CPU upgrade from the 3500M to the 3550Mx I might spend $150. That is way less than $600. Plus then Id have to sell the old laptop to get the money for the new A10 Laptop. And for what? The performance wont be all that different after the overclocks on the older A8 laptop
So Im gonna look into getting an A8-3550mx
and keep it till the A10-4600m with the dual graphics 7970m comes down in price. THAT would be a really great system.
