I combined both Reil's and Clickpad14 (enables the double-tap to disable touchpad) and it works like a charm.
-
Where can you find clickpad14? I searched for it a while ago and then today and I can't seem to find it. Do you want me to add it to the front page? (with credit, ofc)
-
-
The frontpage thing works for some people but not others, so I'd wait for clickpad14. It doesn't work for me, either.
-
HKCU\Software\Synaptics\SynTP\TouchPadS2_3\
Change ClickPadButtonMode to 3 to enable click anywhere+2 and 3 finger PRESS for right and middle click. set to 1 for traditional.
I have 1,2,3 finger click anywhere, reils tapping, and top left trackpad disabling right now.
(Requires restarting the process or restarting the computer to take effect) -
Sure, I'll try that. I'll see if I can pinpoint any more by looking through the registry when I'm changing the settings in the GUI version
-
, but I'm grateful).
eafd, if you can add it to the front page so people can benefit from it too. -
Anyone know if Reil's touchpad solution works with the 2nd gen sandy bridge Envy 14? I know that the SB Envy 14 has a new touchpad so will the new hardware conflict with Reil's software?
I'm scared to try it. -
It depends on the Synaptics SDK, which hasn't changed since version 1. It should work
-
Ugh. I'm really scared. I need to back up my system before trying this on my Envy 14 SB.
My driver version is 15.3.1.4 and I have the Series 3 clickpad. For all those wondering. -
It's not like it'll break anything....
Reil's runs off of the Synaptics SDK, which is automatically installed with every version of the Synaptics driver. It's a standalone .exe, you don't even need to install it. The driver at the top is for the original Envy, the 2XXX series doesn't need it because you have the series 3. (But the driver will work with the series 3. The reason the driver enables anywhere clicking for the 1 series is because it incorrectly identifies the pad as the series 3.)
Reil's merely pulls finger data off of the SDK and parses it, when it detects that 2 fingers are attempting to scroll (by looking at the SDK output), it'll send a command to scroll. Reil's will work with any Synaptics pad, but multi-finger gestures will only work on multitouch pads. -
So is Synaptics clueless or what's going on here? has there been no improvement in the new clickpad over the previous flavor (now present on the SB Envy 17)? why does it take after market talent to produce something that works?
kingp1ng how do you know you have the series 3 clickpad and not the series 1.5? -

I've just gotten use to the envy 14's basic stuff (no reil). the scrolling isn't that bad.
the giant pseudo deadzone thanks to the advanced palm control is nice (reil's breaks this). And I dun care about double/triple tapping -
In comparison to my elder eeePC 1000h (a netbook far cheap) I have 2 complains:
- The pad does not recognize the fingers individually if they are close to each other.
- The scroll gesture fails 20% of the time.
-
For those with SB, dont install the old "broken" drivers. The new stock driver works just fine with reils. Works almost as good as macs now.
-
^ Yup confirmed. Just keep your normal original drivers. With Reil's it is almost equal to a mac except inertial movement. If you scroll with too much pressure the inertia won't work. But that's perfectly ok since the scrolling is amazingggg.
Btw.
What settings is everyone using for tapping? Should I just keep my tapping thresholds as default? -
These might be the defaults, but IDK. I've had them too long to remember what the defaults are.

can somebody (archenemy) give a screen shot of their clickpad14 settings and their reils settings? I'm still looking for the disable at the top left along with click-to-click (not tapping). Thanks
Running on HP Envy 14 SB Beats, I have reils installed and am looking for a way to turn on/off the touchpad without using tapping. -
-
Does anyone have more information on how the new HP Imagepad works on the HP Envy 14? I am interested in this because it might be the dealbreaker if they bring it to the HP Envy 17 3D. The clickpad sucks and I welcome any improvement.

I tried something similar to that. I installed the newer SB touchpad drivers and poked around in the registry, but I had a hard time finding the keys mike was talking about, so I ended up going back to the old drivers.
BTW, the new SB drivers will work on the Envy old. Maybe it was my registry fiddling, but after the second restart my pointer wouldn't move with the touchpad, but I could still click. I'll try it again sometime -
I am trying reil's app now. My pinch to zoom isn't working properly, it gets mixed up with the two finger scroll. (disabled synaptics 2 finger scroll, using reil's at the moment).
-
Is there a guide somewhere showing how to take the touchpad apart? My daughter (somehow) got something sticky on one corner, and the right mouse click now is not working correctly.
-
I would link to the service manual, but it's down right now.
I've uploaded it here: envy14 service manual.pdf
Basically take off the palm rest assembly, then you'll see there's 2 screws holding the arms of the touchpad onto the palm rest. Take those screws off and you can clean the edges. -

You're in HKLM
You need to be in HKCU -

I have version 8.0 of synaptics btw. -

Also it's really easy to rip the power button, keyboard data, keyboard light, and touchpad data cable as well.
They're all secured by tape as well.
main reason I'm saying this is 'cause I ripped my touchpad power cable by accident. (I was under warranty and managed to get HP to replace it by playing dumb but still. Wasn't fun) -
-
I'm looking for clicking, touchpad on/off, 3/4 finger flick, and two/three-finger click
Will be using reils for scrolling.
thanks. -
You can turn tapping off in synaptics...
There's also a reil's setting for tapping.
Have you turned them both off? -
-
You can have touchpad on/off and still have tapping disabled.
(unless HP changed that in later driver versions, disabling tapping only disables clicking when tapping)
Reil's has no effect on driver-level functions. It functions above the driver, and thus cannot disable tapping if tapping is on in the driver. -
ok well on my 8.0 driver disabling tapping also disables the on/off toggle. any driver suggestions? keep in mind i still want the touchpad clicking anywhere, two finger right click and 3/4 flicks. I was thinking maybe 7.4?
-
Try installing the latest drivers from the Synaptics website
synaptics.com/support/drivers -
uninstalled current drivers just like the synaptics install told me, installed the drivers from site and presto.
Its now 15.2.20 instead of 15.3.1.4 -
Well after 3 hours of updating and downgrading drivers i'm done. If anyone with the new hp envy14 can solve how to get touchpad on/off working without having tapping on please let me know. Drivers are fully updated atm: synaptics 8.0 on 15.3.1.4
Thanks -
Just as a note to everyone: I re-pasted my CPU two weeks ago, and while reassembling I misplaced a couple of screws in the wrong location, and once I clicked my touchpad, it got STUCK (clickpad sinks in, and won't raise). Make sure when you disassemble your E14 you put them screws back in their right places.

It disables tapping for those areas while still keeping tapping on. There is the occasional tap still being registered, but it should not be too common.
Be sure to disable tapping in Reil's in addition to those tap zone settings. -
which driver is that?
-
Oh.
It's the driver off of Synaptics', but do you have something similar to that?
Look for a setting called tap zones -
I believe its the "broken" 15.2.16.6 (18/04/2011). This panel is not intended to show up on the Envy, but notebooks having the new clickpad series 3, but Synaptic made a mistake while publishing the driver.
Edit: sorry @eafd, you're fast -
BTW: looking at this and the huge difference Reil's program can achieve on the same hardware, its clear that Synaptics needs to improve their drivers and stop implementing new functions just to justify a hardware update.
Anyway after customization the only thing I miss in comparison to other multitouch pads is the two fingers recognition without the need to have a separation between fingers (again I'm not sure if there is a hardware limitation or only software). I bet most of the failed scroll gestures rely on this: its more difficult to tap two fingers at the same time if you have to spread them. -
Reil's could definitely improve on finger detection if the Synaptics SDK did not only provide the number of fingers and distance the fingers have traveled from their starting point. The 1XXX Envy can only detect the number of fingers and the movement of an overall average point. So even if you had 3 fingers, the SDK would provide one moving point and say that's the equivalent of 3 fingers on that spot.
The new Series 3 clickpads apparently have some sort of new sensor technology to improve finger detection. It tracks every finger independently, which makes me think that it gathers a bit more information than just the number of fingers on the pad and an overall point.
It's sort of surprising that synaptics would choose to hold back some of these simple features in their driver for higher end clickpads.
But yeah. I used a confusing way to explain that better finger detection would be a hardware limitation. -
and @eafd i'll post a screen cap of my driver page later because mine looks nothing like that. I did a windows update and it says mine is the up to date driver. -
The picture's from the driver on the first page, 15.2.7
