Is there a way to customly define what third-finger scrolling left/right pair do? Trying to get Spaces-like feature working on my Envy 14 with three-finger swiping to work.

But that only allows a couple of different commands. Is there a way to make a three-finger swipe do anything else?

Well, you can set your other program to respond to those shortcuts. Or you can go and modify the code to suit your needs

It's current for the 1XXX series Envies. For the 2XXX series, just omit the "broken" driver and just get Reil's.

My touchpad still does not scroll on my envy 15-3000. I have the reils app and the latest driver for the touchpad but still no go.

Can someone put a step by step guide on removing and installing the drivers and software to make this work properly?

Also can they include the proper settings to use between the Synaptics software and Reils?

I am sure there are others in the same boat and this would really help us out.

Otherwise everything else is working great.

Thanks for any help on this one problem.

Will this program allow my touchpad pointer speed to be different than my external mouse speed? I always hate having to adjust the speeds when I switch between the two.

I recommend you activate also the "chiral" scrolling, perhaps the best idea of the whole drivers pack.

Hello all. I'm new to the boards here, but I'm considering getting the new Envy 15. I tried the touchpad at the store and it worked just ok, but I'm of the old guard that likes to rest my left index finger at the bottom left portion of the touchpad and use it just for left-clicking (and right-clicking). With all the posts and drivers, etc... can someone tell me if there is any drivers or combination of drivers that will allow me to use the touchpad in this old way? PS... I don't care if I lose all the swiping or side-scrolling capabilities in the process. Thanks!

I know on my Envy 14-1000 you can sort of get that to work but it is finicky and if you don't make the Palmcheck-Enhanced ACM zone properly it'll mess up and think you have two fingers on the touchpad.

...still it's finicky and I just mainly use the area to create a deadzone so that while I type my fingers don't trigger the touchpad like it did when I first got the laptop.

I just tried resting my thumb on the button and it worked a bit but then it didn't when my thumb moved some so you'd have to almost turn much more than just the button area into a "don't initially use this as a touch or tap zone"

Probably like half the bottom..which would defeat the purpose of the touchpad most likely. Also all bets are off once you move out of the "you can touch/tap here zone" or if you accidentally move into that zone from the outside.

I really liked the improvement after loading the latest drivers for my new Envy 15 3XXX. Very fluid and accurate two finger scrolling, but now the pinch to zoom is really sensitive. It was much more usable before the driver update.

Anyone know if that pinch to zoom sensitivity can be adjusted? Thx

Have you tried turning UAC off?

Reil's is incompatible with most other programs until you either give it admin access or turn UAC off.

What about the 'broken' drivers are broken? Honestly, I've had the most success using the broken drivers without upgrading them via windows update. What issues if any will I run into?

    "broken" but not really broken.

They just allow clicking/2 finger clicking/3 finger clicking outside of the designated button areas on the touchpad.

Yeah, basically, they're broken from Synaptics' standpoint. These drivers fail to properly identify the model of trackpad your computer has, and reports any trackpad as one of the new ClickPads. This unlocks more software features.

"Make sure to disable the 1-finger tapping in Reil's. If you leave it on, then both the Synaptics drivers and Reil's will trigger a click when tapping, inputting 2 mouse clicks per tap." :)

Has anyone been able to use Reil's touchpad on Windows 8 Consumer Preview? I have all the dependencies installed, but I get "Unable to initialize touchpad! exiting..."

Even tried Win 7 compatibility with Admin rights.

Nevermind, solved the two issues I originally had.

The first one was not being able to leave a finger resting at the bottom of the trackpad without disrupting the trackpad's functioning. Even though I'd tried the original driver, broken driver, updated driver, and reil's touchpad, I still couldn't get it to work. Then I tried one last update and got a "Fatal error". When I restart the computer it magically worked the way I wanted it to.

The second issue is the trackpad wouldn't move the cursor if a key was depressed. I knew there used to be a 'palmcheck' option but I couldn't fit it in the settings. I guess it's now what is labeled as "Smartsense" so once I turned that off it worked fine. (Although now I have palmcheck issues, so I'll probably only turn this off when I want to game.)

Apologies for the bump, but is there any way to simply disable the touchpad over the region of the two buttons at the bottom? (Sorry if that doesn't make any sense.)

Testing right now drivers 16.0.1.0 found here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...xxx-dv5-2xxx-g32-cq32-envy-14-1xxx-intel.html

I've found two interesting things on the changelog
    -Applied Microsoft recommendations for scrolling.
    -Intertouch.

The last one seems related to this:
    InterTouch | Synaptics

Since the Envy14 oem ID triggers the old UI, I'm not sure if I'm missing something here, but the changelog also states:
-Removed the InterTouch related settings since this applies TurnOffMultiphy currently.

Perhaps someone with a Folio 13 or Spectre notebooks can check if there is something new?

So I installed this and I cant say it helped my Envy 14-1xxx that much. It still wont scroll Zune player, scrolls really slow in IE10 Metro, and 2 finger scroll still gets seen as being a palm and gets rejected from scrolling sometimes.

Well, is not clear what "Intertouch" means on this hardware, perhaps nothing. Reading the doc sounds more like new API than an improvement.

About the two-fingers scroll, a space between fingers is mandatory. I usually use the ring and middle finger and the scroll works pretty well.
I also set the "coasting" option, to keeps scrolling when I lift the hand.

About Windows 8, I heard that Synaptics is working with MS to bring a new set of drivers, more in par with the Touch Mouse experience.

I've got a weird issue when using twofingerscroll with one+one finger tap option for left click. After I do this, left mouse click is triggered, but the mouse cursor moves a little bit. I remember somehow fixing this, but I don't remember how. You have any ideas?

PS Just fixed it. I simply needed to use modded MacHater's vesion, not the vanilla one from Google Code.

Hey everyone, are there any third party programs that will enable me to unlock the touchpad while typing? I get that the disabling of the touchpad while typing is supposed to be a benefit, but I like to play games on my PC.

It's strange...for such an expensive laptop, I didn't expect the touchpad to be so finicky. I used to have a much cheaper laptop with a touchpad like a charm.

I don't have the Envy in front of me right now, but I believe that there is an option on Synaptics's contro panel: a slider you can move to disable the pad x seconds after a keystroke, and you can move it to zero.

Ahh...unfortunately I didn't see anything like that. The only thing that allows me to move the cursor upon typing is disabling SmartSense. Unfortunately, disabling it causes the cursor to tend to jump from place to place when my hand is accidentally nearby.

Guess I'll just turn it off whenever I want to play a game. Guess it isn't really a huge deal.

A while back someone posted a set of reg. files that allows you to use 3 finger flicks to navigate (forward/back) through windows explorer.

I've recently done a fresh install of win7 and installed the latest synaptics drivers (1.16.00 or something) and those reg files don't seem to work anymore.

    Can anyone confirm this?

    Thanks.

Is it possible to turn of the highlighting of a word or line with the envy touchpad third party software? Whenever I click on a page, it highlights either a word, a whole line, or the whole page. Seems like it is over sensitive. I tried uninstalling and re-installing the synaptics driver and that fixes the problem, but then I can't use the envy touchpad software. Thanks.

You seem to have your taps registering twice. Once in synaptics once in the touch pad software. Turn one off

    Hi,

I am a new envy user who just found this thread. Can anyone please tell me the best possible settings to use my touchpad with? I have scanned the front page but it seems to be written a long time ago and now with a lot of driver updates, im wondering if those drivers/app settings are still the preferred and best ones. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

I tried Reil's software for my Envy 17, and really liked the two finger scrolling settings recommended here ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...y-15-envy-17-envy-17-3d-282.html#post8180339), but I ultimately deleted it and went back to Synaptics 8.1 instead.

Why? The deal breaker is that if you rest your finger on the left click button, Synaptics works better. Reil senses two fingers touching and moving apart as the user trying to zoom. Synaptics is better at ignoring the finger resting on the button area and recognizes only the moving finger for cursor movement, which is exactly what I want.

While I think the quadratic scrolling looks nice, Reils kept freezing the mouse cursor in place if I ever rested my thumb on the left click button.

Also, Synaptics has pixel precision two finger scrolling, so even if it doesn't have the nice feeling of inertia, I think that it may look smoother when scrolling.

Agreed! I tried chiral scrolling for the first time, and it's awesome. Start by doing an edge scroll, and then you can twirl your finger in clockwise & counterclockwise circles to scroll infinitely. So much easier than lifting my fingers up and moving them down to initiate another page scroll.
