I'm not really sure if they are coming out Monday...

In the news I read they all seemed to point out that they would be up for preorder sometime like a week before release and we haven't seen any of that.

sounds possible to me, considering there are people in China who already got the new model... hell even with the Ivy Bridge! http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...5-hp-dv6-7002tx-available-china-reviewed.html

and the 3Dmark06 score proves the GT 650m GDDR5 will be a nice card considering it's as fast as GTX 560m

Looks nice.. though not a fan of the chrome surrounding the outside perimeter of the laptop.

My current notebook had that setup and it chips fairly easily. Hopefully it's made better.

I'm guessing either tomorrow or the 29th. Tomorrow is the paper launch and the 29th is the retail launch, so it could be either.

"the HP Pavilion dv6 is expected to be available in Singapore from 29 April at a starting price of SG$1,299. Local pricing and availability for the HP Pavilion dv7 will be announced at a later stage. As for the specs, we have not yet to receive information on this and will share this with everyone once we receive it."

I just got word that HP is extending all of their current coupons that were set to expire on 4/24 to 4/29 expiration instead. It would seem that HP Singapore and HP U.S. are on the same release schedule and we should now expect the 28th/29th as the date to be able to buy.

    One more week still...

Would the coupons be valid for when the dv6 ivy gets released .?
If not after how much time would we see the coupons back .?

I wanna buy a good deal for dv6 with coupons ...

Not sure - the current coupons will most likely expire when the new dv6 and dv7 notebooks become available. I would be surprised if HP releases good coupons for notebooks that were just released.

OK, need some advice, should I wait for these new models to go onsale and if they do have coupons buy these? Or wait for these new models and purchase the older models IF the there is huge price drop?
I really need to get rid of my DM3, it's way too slow, and the tax refund is burning me. :D What to do? What to do?

It would depend on your budget but if there are some decent coupons for the newer laptops, and it doesn't kill your budget, I would go for the newer ones. The mashup of an Nvidia-Intel should provide a more stable environment than the current AMD-Intel offering, at least in my opinion. While Ivy Bridge is at best an incremental upgrade in comparison to Sandy Bridge, the review coming out for the HD4000 make it a worthwhile update for certain tasks and some low detailed gaming. If the aforementioned isn't important to you (speaking as an Nvidia fanboy) and the old models take a price hit, then by all means, purchase the Sandy Bridge version of these models.

This is only my opinion based on the current DV6t which I currently own and am typing this message on. While a great laptop, there are a few things it missed off the mark and the newer models look like a definite improvement.

I myself am currently within the 21 day return period so if everything goes according to plan, I'll exchange this model with a new DV6, price concerns not withstanding.

Thanks for the reply. I'm going to use the notebook for running virtual machines (Linux, developing for Android), and some gaming (Microsoft Flight Simulator X, Battlefield 2, etc) Graphic intensive games as such.
I don't mind purchasing the Sandy Bridge machines, but I don't want it to kill my budget and or be a total dud like my DM3 neither. I'm planning on spending about $700, give or take another $100 for taxes and such.

I don't have any preference over graphics chips, but the I've always used Intel chips and do not want to move away, considering an i7 over an i5 just to be safe and future proof.

Just an estimate, would these current models go down considerably or just low enough where they'll clear inventory slowly over time?

    Thanks again.

As for the first part of your comment, you'll find the Sandy Bridges very powerful for VM's, you'll only run into RAM issues as with any VM so you'll want to up for something better than the 2670QM in my current laptop, this CPU IIRC can only handle 16gb and doesn't have VT-d (not that important). Look at the attachment for a pic of what I'm doing right now (messing with Xcode).

As for the second part of your comment, most likely just low enough to clear inventory.

It depends, last year the ENVY 15 and ENVY 17 got almost immediate coupons. However, the ENVY 14 Spectre is still exempt from any type of coupon and it came out in January. I don't think you'd see coupons right at release, but within a few weeks if not sooner.

seems pretty good, a 3DMark11 of 2,289 means it might just a tad faster than the GTX 560m when it comes to DX11 games, too bad they didn't include anything about the temperatures or more details on the Battery life test they did(was it on normal? power saver? etc...)

either ways this looks like it can be next laptop if the price is right :)
I hope this model will be available in my country :(
backlit keyboard + 1080p matte + medium BF3@1080p average 37fps is enough for me :p

although I wouldn't mind it on 768p as well :)

can't wait to replace my aging "Oven" :p

quick question, the game FPS samplies on Notebookcheck. how do we know at which resolution they were tested? for instance http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-560M.48313.0.html it says Battlefield 3 Medium 48.3-49.3 at which resolution is that?

In the middle towards the top click on "Notebook Gaming List" and you'll see exactly what Low, Medium, High and Ultra mean for each game...or just click here: Computer Games on Laptop Graphic Cards - Notebookcheck.net Tech

Battlefield 3 "Medium" is 1366x768, medium preset, no AA and 4xAF. Not bad but I plan to overclock the GT 650m so I could play 900p high or 1080p medium smoothly.

    thanks for the explanation+link :)

hmm, this is strange then, how come it scores a bit higher on 3Dmark11 yet have much lower FPS on BF3 then? GTX 560m has 37fps on high yet GT 650m has only 38fps on medium? doesn't sound right. I still say they tested it @1080p with medium settings since they mentioned: (and also it says on the table 1920X1080p for the HP 1366X768 for the comparing Acer)

"Comparing the dv6 against the Acer M3, which packs a slightly slower GeForce GT 640M, we found that the dv6 was unsurprisingly the faster chip in benchmarks such as 3DMark11. However, since it's running at a higher 1,920 x 1,080-pixel resolution (1,366 x 768-pixel for the Acer), the dv6 could find itself struggling to produce similar frame rates in more intensive games such as Battlefield 3. "

I hope this was the case

They did, the testing was in Full HD, so i'm pretty sure that FPS is slightly better then what the GTX 560m gets at 1080p. Ether way for a "technically" mid-grade GPU that's pretty darn good.

Yes, this is true if you run in native resolution, but gaming should not be a reason to pick a 15.6" 1366x768 display instead of a 15.6" 1920x1080 display. You will get some amount of blur from running in 1366x768 non-native resolution on a 1920x1080 display, but games will tend to look better running in non-native resolution on a 15.6" 1920x1080 display than they would look running in native resolution on a 15.6" 1366x768 display because of the significant differences in inherent display quality with regards to contrast and other aspects. Even despite this, don't trade off overall usefulness of your computer (multitasking and productivity) just to try to improve how good the outlines of a tree look inside of a game.

I know I've asked this before but, how is HP with exchanges?

I have no experiences with them, but from what i read while looking for a laptop to buy, for the most part hp is pretty good.

And i hate to be pessimistic about it, but remember how they said their will be non ivy bridge models released first around the 8th... ya that didn't happen yet.

Talked to an employee in BestBuy (Canada) today. Said he wasn't sure when HP was going to send them the new dv6's, he said it was all up to HP, whether they want to clear out the old models first, and when they'll start actually sending units to retailers, etc. He mentioned it could be as late as June until they get any.

I looked at the current dv6, a model with the 7690M XT and a 1366 x 768 display. Given a budget, I think I could make do with the non FHD display - I'm currently getting by on 1280 x 800, and the slightly extra width is actually nice, despite the decrease in height.
I like the outgoing dv6 overall, though there's definitely a lot of flex on the screen near the hinge, and these ridiculous bilingual keyboards just plain suck, shrinking the left shift key (as well as enter) is terrible for typing and gaming.

Can't wait to play around with the new models in store.

Very easy to deal with, you just call or use chat and if you want to make an exchange explain why, they email you an RMA label to attach to the laptop you have and they'll send out the model you want to exchange for. Doing a straight up return is easy too. No other manufacturer makes it easier or cheaper (no restocking fee). One reason why I'm such a big fan of HP.

Returning is as easy as exchange, or easier. You ask for an RMA within 21 days of receiving your laptop and pay no restocking fee. If you hold onto it for more than 21-days you don't get a full refund though, not sure what the policy is beyond that.

So, I'm pretty sold on these new dv6 models, they have everything I'm looking for and then some it seems. But I have to ask, what have folks here been comparing it to, is there something else coming out that gets close on specs? Main things I'm looking for are the 650m, 1080p, and blu-ray, doesn't seem like there's much to offer all of those.

anyone think a touchscreen has any hope on a HP Pavilion in this upcoming gen? Seems like Windows 8 could benefit from that.

Dell should come with the XPS series, Levono will have the Y580. Pretty much every manufacturer will move to Ivy bridge and will likely have the options that you need.
    Another option is the clevo/sage/malibal.
