So the HP logo didn't light up in the video, hope it stay that way...
-
question: (I dont own a dv6/envy so this is something i would like to know) Why do peopl hate the hp logo lighting up? Isnt that just suppose to be a cool feature? what am i missing lol
-
Yeah, I like the light-up logo, same with the one on the back of Apples.
-
It's bright if you leave it on in your room at night, it consumes more power on battery...
-
Yeah.. it may very well turn out to be just like FireWire but it's a neat feature non the less..
-
is there a way to turn it off if on battery or like turn off after an hr or somethign?
-
No way, forever on. :/
-
It is on even if you close the lid. As long as it isn't sleep/hib/shut down, it is on.
-
Yes it'll remain on even if you close the lid.
-
Only way so far to disable that light is to completely unplug the white led.
If HP could make it manually selectable it would be great. -
maybe im just an idiot but if you close the lid doesnt the comp go to sleep?
-
The close lid action can be set to do nothing instead of sleep. For many, they have changed the action to somethign else.
-
Is it just me or do the g-series laptops have always had the vga port placed too close to the vents? I have a dv7 and wished either screwless vga cables would be invented already or have the vga and hdmi ports distanced apart from each other so I can try out a triple-monitor setup. I was thinking of having the ethernet in between the vga and hdmi ports because LOL WHO USES ETHERNET ON LAPTOPS?!
-
For those who want to know the exact specs, here's your deal:
HP let slip a three Ivy Bridge notebook models by VR-Zone.com -
2012 Envy 15 = top-notch build quality compareable to the MBP. Better screen panel with IPS. ATI graphics (personal preference).
2012 Pavilion dv6/dv7 = refreshing design that doesn't steal design cues from the Macbook. Inferior build quality is a given because of lower pricing.
I'd be more than happy with both to be honest. Just can't decide which one I should finally get is all. Guess it'll be up to the reviews. -
Nice. Wonder if they will offer an upgraded screen on the 14 inch model? It'd be nice to see a 1600x900 option, and sure hope there is the 650m available for the DV6 otherwise it will be quite disappointing. I'm sure there will be.
And looks like no backlit keyboard for the 14 inch either. -
I didn't think it was possible to use three monitors with a laptop unless one or more of the display outputs was displayport, embedded displayport, or usb. (I do hope embedded displayport becomes ubiquitous soon.)
I've used ethernet with my laptop...when I was putting off the purchase of a new wireless router, when I couldn't get the wireless adapter to work for a little while, and when I've been chained to a desk (so to speak).
I've seen a few new articles up on the web such as this one, but they don't share anything that's not already in this thread. They all list the Thailand HP url I shared as the source, or LaptopReviews.com, which has this thread as the source. -
man this sucks. I received my dv7 late january, didn't have the patience for these ones. How much of a difference do we expect with the 650m compared to the 7690? Games are fine, but can't stand those hiccups radeons seem to have. And the design quality has some obvious issues, i see spaces in the chasis. And yeah, it feels weird not to have a backlit keyboard on a 1200 dollar laptop. Should i sell my current laptop and grab this one?
-
My guess is that the 650m is at least 35% faster, maybe 40 or 45%. The 640m, of which there are benchmarks available, is already 20%, maybe 25%, faster than the 7690m.
[edit] Nevermind. Maybe the 640m isn't that much faster; it depends on the benchmark. It looks like the 640m is about the same speed in most games.
[edit2] Aack! It's complicated by the availability of both GDDR3 and GDDR5 for the 640m and 650m. I forgot about that. So the 650m, (with GDDR5, which is what HP will offer), still might be significantly faster than the 7690m. -
Lol yeah it is. But, according to my order sheet, the 7690m also on GDDR5
-
Ahhh, I spent close to 1300 dollars last month. I was not expecting a drastic jump in the GPU, knew about the Ivy Bridge. That's the reason I pulled the trigger. Much rather have an nvidia than deal with Radeon and the various opengl issues it has.
-
do u think it might be possible that the dv6 will have gtx 660m or the radeon equiv in envy 15?
-
Here is the 3DMark11 score of GT 650M with the DDR3 memory:
The 7690M with GDDR5 score P1550. So a GT 650M with DDR3 memory score about 40% better. There will also be a GDDR5 version of GT 650M.
Cheers
-
Yeah, im not buying one of these new laptops if they have only DDR3 650m's because ill feel ripped off.
-
Juggar DV7 will have 650M DDR5
HP Pavilion dv7-7000 Entertainment Notebook PC series specifications - HP Products for Home and Home Office products -
I am not so good with benchmark numbers, where does this put the gt 650m in terms of the 500ms
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I looked at the 3DMark11 score of the gtx 560m and its avg is 2051.5, the 650 with ddr3 is faster than gtx 560m??? I wonder what it will be with ddr5...unless i read the benchmark numbers wrong
-
GTX 560M and GT 650M scores just about equal in 3DMark11...
BUT GT 650M will only have a 128bit which means it will be slower than a GTX 560M in 1080p. But 650M will shine in 1366x768 and 1600x900 gaming.
And that HP Pastapvz is linking to is a GT 650M with GDDR5, which means much faster than the 650M tested above.
Kepler is a beast -
damn i wanted to be gaming at 1080p :|
-
The thing is that the GT 650M with GDDR5 will probably perform very good in 1080p too because it have a very fast memory that makes up for the small memory bus (128 bit). The memory is clocked way higher than the 500 series. That is why you see the GDDR5 GT 650M version with 1080p notebooks (Like Lenovo Y580)
Even the GT 650M with DDR3 might be good enough to play some games @ 1080p. Heck it might play many if you lower the detail settings. But for god sakes go for GDDR5 version if you have the chance -
yay there is hope LOL. how well/easily do u think the cards will overclock
-
That is an unknown quantity at this point. Too early to tell but I guess as with recent cards, good chance of high OC.
-
How much do you guys think these new laptops will be? I want a i7,1080p and 650m.
-
interesting interesting... I am happy now that I didnt pull the trigger for the asus g53sw deal on black friday.
-
this is nice! I was gonna get a dv6 deal on Staples last week...guess I'm gonna wait until this comes out.
-
Yeah, I saw that score before. Maybe I should have thought to share it, but I think Nvidia's new GPUs will score better on 3dMark 11 than on games compared to AMD's GPUs or Nvidia's older ones.
For example, when Anandtech.com reviewed the Acer with the 640m with GDDR3, it had 90% of the 560m's 3dMark 11 score, but was generally well behind that in games. -
That's because Kepler is optimised for DX11 features more than Fermi was.
-
That was because A) The 3DMark11 score was GPU based, and, B) The game FPS performance comparison you saw was totally unfair because the GTX 560M was paired with a 45W Quad core while the GT 650M was paired with a 17W Dual core.
If the GT 640M setup had also a Quad you would have seen much more even results
Cheers
-
Good point. I forgot how much the CPU would affect the scores differently. I've really been out of it today. I should wait until I've got a clear head before I post...
-
so when do u guys think these new laptops are gonna be out for sale?
-
April 8 order, April 29 ship date.
-
any words on base price on dv6 and dv7?
-
probably around the same as the present models, or maybe at the very beginning a bit more expensive but after that around the same.
-
Yeah I would say around the same base price (so $600-ish). I don't see HP raising the price since all the premium features (e.g. backlit keyboard) are probably optional.
-
Man don`t be so hard on yourself. Easy to miss those details.
-
What are your guys guesses on the heat generated by these models? I know HP fix the overheating issues with the last models but from what i read they still ran pretty warm. Do you guys think the gt 650m will run cooler the HD 6770/7690m? Nvidia seems to be pushing for that but it should be a significantly stronger chip.
-
HP cooling solutions are mostly designed exactly to the TDP and hardly have allowance for any more heat. Especially those high end ones.
-
So heat shouldn't be much of any concern. Still I'm curious how hot these gpus get in comparison. Nvidia said that they are greatly increasing the performance per power consumption. Can one then assume that the amount of heat generate will also decrease for the same performance as previous generations.
-
any news if the envy is getting the same refresh on the 8th?
-
Well, the 660m will be available in the Lenovo Y580, which has only a slightly larger chassis than the dv6, so I'm not all that worried about heat. I just wish HP provided some options for undervolting.
