the Dell will be available with gt630m and gt640m both with gddr5, full hd matte display with gorrilla glass ( i don't know how to have glass with matte). but this is sort of off-topic.

i thought the 640 was only ddr3? and the xps is suppose to be their premium notebook right? that is actually kinda disappointing if it only has 640m. where did u get that info?

If it's gddr5 640m then it won't be far off from the 650m or 660m. After all they all use the same core.

True, but they could disable cores with the 650m and 660m too. I don't think it'll be that big of a difference from the 650m coming with the next dv6 to make or break choosing one over the other.

That leaked image (provided it ends up being true) is quite amazing. Dell has always had ugly looking products IMO but that is quite gorgeous and even I couldn't deny being interested in that for a relative....

Have not had much experience with Dell customer service tho so I'd def have to do research in that arena...

I have yet to see any pictures or videos of the dv6/7 with the backlit keyboard enabled. Is there any more proof that these models will feature a backlit keyboard besides a couple of photos with an F# key that appears to be a backlit keyboard button?

I think it is an option because there is nothing on the f5 key not even an other logo. and since in the hp video it shows an backlit logo on the f5 key.

ya, but at 1:23-1:28 he's holding a dv7 I believe and if you look close you can see all F keys have symbols, which means the F5 should have the backlit-button

Guess this means the back-lit is an option

But if a backlit keyboard was really an option, wouldn't you think that they would want to showcase that feature and actually turn it on? I feel that it is something people would want to show off since it is such a sought after feature. I don't think there's gonna be one. No videos explicitly show it, and no spec sheets indicate it either.

The backlit keyboard on/off toggle is on the f5 button. You can see it in the video. HP might make some stupid decisions, i.e. unresponsive clickpads, i.e. removing backlit keyboard option, but they usually learn from them by the next computer release.

It probably doesn't show in that one scene at 1:18 because it's an upgrade and that was a different computer being filmed for that scene.

    The dv6-7017tx:

Whats is the consensus' best guess for price?

Its interesting how this is playing out in my situation; I received my DV6qe(2670qm, 7690 1gb, 750gb hybrid, 8gb, 1080p) last Friday. I'm exchanging for the new DV6, if all goes accordingly, this Monday.

I would think the pricing should be in line with the dv6/dv7 6000, 6100, and current series.

When the last major refresh was released with Sandy Bridge (the 6000 series, in march 2011) they offered 30% and 35% coupons off and on.

This is what I am waiting for before pulling the trigger on the 7000 series.

Oh, and it better have a backlit keyboard - or their engineers are doing too much special K.

hp is going to have the gdd5 gt 650m while asus only has the ddr3. if you dont mind that, i think the asus is better in everyaspect...from what is given anyway... the N56 series is actually a comparision to the Envy line because both are premium product lines. However, this also means extra cost u said you dont care about the cost so its going to come down to the gpu basically lol..

    something weird here
HP Pavilion g6-2000 Notebook PC series
if you look at the models of the new G6 it says(first one as example)
"Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4000 "
    yet on the processor it says : Processor Intel® Core™ i3-2350M (2.3 GHz 3 MB L3 cache ) "

and as far as I know HD 4000 is available on Ivy bridge (i3/5/7-3000s M)

so what gives? They didn't fully update the page or are they playing the "ivy bridge not released yet so we can't put that on the page" game? :p

I do like that the hp comes with a hybrid drive, that should boost performace a bit. At least speed up boot times. I wonder why the Asus doesnt have that.

Based on HP and ASUS selling prices here in Singapore,
    The HP DV6 would likely cost SGD1999 - 2099.
The ASUS would likely cost SGD 1899.

Yeah, July/August seems like a good time to place my order :) Even in that time frame it's still cheaper to buy from hp.com than from bestbuy, etc, right?

I had no idea they even existed! Let's hope hp leaves AMD/ATI as a configuration option this generation. I'd love to see some benches with trinity vs ivy brigde+650m :-D
