didnt work -
Thank you so much.. i have a dv9500t with vista home prem 32 bit, followed the instructions and everything worked as planed. I used to have the problem where when using yahoo IM, my freind could see me and himself, but i could only see him, and my webcam displayed a black screen for me, not anymore!
i hated having to turn on hp quickplay to turn on the camera, then have yahoo see it, then turn off quickplay again..... i couldnt even turn on my webcam without using quickplay! but im so happy its all working fine right now.
just a note, hp quickplay still recognizes my camera, so i see no disadvantage to this driver.
Thankyou so much for taking the risk for all of us by installing a non supported driver, and fixing more problems with the hp webcam than hp could.......sad, but probably true. -
Just becasue, i decided to automatically search for a driver after installing the acer driver, and it installed a microsoft driver for the webcam. This is still a driver for the acer webcam, as it says it under device manager, and it works fine... you might want to add this to the front page incase it fixes some problems for people who haven't been as lucky with the driver..
-
Man this guide rocks...
Done install n no problem at all now with my webcam..
Thanks a lot.. -
I have an HP dv6426us laptop with Vista Home Premium and Chicony web cam. Installed the acer driver and it works like a charm! I can now switch from one program to another using web cam without rebooting. Works in every program that I've tried so far too. Thanks Dylan.
-
You need to reinstall the Realtec RTL8101 driver from your recovery manager.
This is the webcam driver for HP laptops even though you would not think so.
It works having myself spent many hours trying to resolve this problem. -
Ok, I have read this thread start to finish a hundred times in desperation. My DV2175ea's webcam refused to do anything and I was cheesed off, to put it mildly. I had tried everything. Everything from this forum, everything I could find off the internet. I even lost my marbles and started downloading things off the HP website, I know, how stupid can you get?!
Nothing worked for me. The acer software, the firmware patch, Vista's SP1, nada. My camera, like others on here had fallen off the face of my device manager list.
In UTTER despair I pretended to be an American and used HPs online technician chat program. 'Sylvia' rumbled me right away but offered to help me anyway. Why didn't I call the UK helpline? Because they are a useless bunch of no brainers.
Sylvia's steps to fix it worked for me, even if the countless restarting became tedious. I dont think my webcam has worked for a YEAR but it works now! I am going to paste Sylvia's words of wisdom here for anyone who is still thoroughly stumped (its literally a copy and paste job, so blame everything on Sylvia!). I didnt copy Step 1, which was to uninstall the camera in device manager if it was present. Mine was not present so I went straight to stage 2:
Sylvia: Step 2:
Sylvia: Install the BIOs Update from the link given below:
Sylvia: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp36501-37000/sp36869.exe
Sylvia: Please copy the entire URL and paste it in a new window of Internet Explorer. Then open the link from there.
Sylvia: Step 3:
Sylvia: And download and install the below two files. These are essential updates for Vista which enables the webcam in vista.
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp36001-36500/sp36128.exe
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp36501-37000/sp36935.exe
Double click on downloaded sp36128.exe and follow the on screen instructions to install it. And also install the sp36935.exe
Once you install the above two files, you need to restart the Notebook.
Sylvia: Step 4:
Sylvia: Resetting the Bios.
1. Restart the notebook.
2. Tap the F10 key as soon as the HP logo appears.
3. Using the arrow keys, navigate to Exit Menu, select "Load Setup Defaults" and select "Exit Saving Changes"
Sylvia: Step 5:
Sylvia: Downloading and installing the latest drivers for web cam.
Click on the below link to start downloading the webcam drivers.
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp34501-35000/sp34746.exe
Once you click on the above link, Save the file on the desktop. Do not install it onlin.
Once you download the file, you need to restart the Notebook. Double click on the downloaded file(sp34746.exe) which is on the desktop and follow the on screen instructions to install it. After you complete the installation, restart the notebook once again.
Sylvia: Step 6:
Now start using the web cam in Quickplay.
Here are the steps to use the webcam in Quickplay:
1. Click on Start button, select All Programs and click on Quickplay.
2. Within the Quickplay application, click the Video icon (Icon resembles, camera, music, and film).
3. Double click on "HP Web cam" or "USB Video device" in the Source column.
4. Now you would see your self on the screen
Sylvia: I am done providing all the required steps to fix the Webcam issue.
Now, as a quick point, the Quickplay thing didnt work for me, but i never use quickplay anyway. Instead I used the webcam demo programme because i remembered it took little snapshots of you and made you the demo in an MSN conversation while it played. And it WORKED. I have also tried it in MSN messenger (windows Live messenger) and it WORKS!!! I've literally run here after fixing it so i don't know if its fixed forever or if it's going to do that silly, silly thing that caused us all to come here in the first place, but I wanted to share a solution with those whose cams have fallen off device manager for those who have tried every other trick on this entire thread and had it fail. Good luck!
I sound ridiculously over excited, I am aware of that! -
You're my hero!! The original post from Dylan worked - I've got a hp dv9825nr and running Vista Ultimate 64 bit. The camera works in all applications. Thank you for saving me from (1) calling tech support (2) reinstalling Vista or (3) taking my brand new laptop back to the the Geek Squad at Best Buy. You've saved me a TON of time!!!
-
can you post that driver? I deleted my recovery partition without a back..
I know...pretty studip.
thanks -
I saw some people saying that couldn't solve this problem, (TACOMA) and i couldn't solve this either. But today is my bright day, couse i finaly solve that.
For the ones who tryied every thing and still didnt fix this, i have the solution.
I was trying to install the webcam with a Vista version who was 613MB. Today i installed one Vista version who is 2.13GB (torrent file, it took 3 days downloading this, but it worth it).
After install this vista version, i didn't have to try to install the webcam, it installed itself.
People, -
OMG!!! Man, you are a GOD!!!! seriously iv been trying to get this damn webcam to work for years, and then found a link from the hp forums to this!

YES!!!! I am sooo glad that a friend of my found this information. I had been so very frustrated with my built in HP web cam, not properly working on my HP DV9500. I followed these instructions, downloaded and installed the new driver and presto!!! no errors, no annoying messages that there is 'no web cam connected' ... sure my laptop now thinks it has an Acer web cam, but who cares!!! IT WORKS!!!!
and it works for all the different chat clients that I use. THANKS for this fix !!!

I just wanna share this. I have a dv6000 with Vista Home Premium 32 and I've searched for a solution for users who do not have Chicony but a Ricoh. I've tried the different HP webcam drivers available and finally got the perfect driver! It's a driver for Windows XP and it worked like charm for my computer. I hope this could help for Ricoh webcams

Hi,
Yesterday, I have changed the OS of my computer to windows XP.
During a months ago, I have had Vista business and I could use my webcam easily, but after changing OS, my webcam has become out of order. My laptob is Sony VGN-SZ740
what should I do to install my webcam in my computer.
Thanks in advance. -
I have a dv6500, and this worked for mine too, after many frustrating months of restarting just to get the webcam to work! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! Good detective work...
-
Thank you. This worked for me!!! I have a Ricoh webcam on a dv6000 series notbook, and I installed clean Vista32 Ultimate overwriting preinstalled XP.
Note for Step 2 that if you don't have a dv2000 series notebook, then you need a different bios update file. You should be able to find it on the hp site by searching for your product and following the link to "software and driver downloads". Also sp34746 worked (and updated firmware) but the latest one(mentioned before in thread) didn't.

Hello Dylan!
I have a problem with my web cam, i've tried to carry out what u've said, but it didn't work for me,
12. Chose "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
13. Unchecked the "Show compatible hardware" checkbox.
14. Scrolled down to the Chicony manufacturer.
When i unchecked the "Show compatible hardware checkbox, no new driver appear, why??
I have a HP pavilion dv6000 and windows XP Professionnel SP3
plz help me
Thank you very much -
ok yeah i cant use this stuff the cam is not even coming up in the device manager... the truth is its my girlfriends computer and shes like 300miles away from me... but she did a chat with one of the techs and they had her reinstall the bios and the driver for the cam and then she talked to a person today because its not coming up in the DM so they told her she has to take it to a bestbuy or a computer place to fix it... so i have no idea what to do...

My DV2122 webcam stopped working suddenly. i followed your steps its perfectly working fine now great

this is how i fixed my webcam.
i followed steps 1-8 in the guide above because step by step didnt work
it just made more problems for me
note: i have hp pavillion dv 6838tx
1. Downloaded the file.
2. Unzipped it to a folder on my desktop.
3. Ran the "Setup.exe" file in the folder that got unzipped.
4. Went through the installer until it got to the end and then let it restart my computer.
5. Waited for my computer to restart.
6. It popped up something saying it was installing the drivers for my webcam. Waited until it was done.
7. Opened the Control Panel.
8. Opened the Device Manager.
then instead of going to image devices go to usb controlls.
and right click Sonix ST50220 USB Video Camera
1 Right-clicked on my webcam and chose "Update Driver Software..."
2 Chose "Browse my computer for driver software"
3 Chose "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
4 select USB Composite Device
5 that should be it. after i did that it worked
my webcam is now listed in the device manager under image devices and is working fine
if the original post doesnt help try the steps i took because it worked fine for me -
Hello,
I m new here and i came exactly cause i didnt knew where else to adress regarding this problem.I Have tried the solution with acer drivers but i sad to say that the problem is NOT FIXED.i own a HP PAVILION DV7-1130EV FV063EA
.The problem,is tha same, msn crashes when i m trying to use the webcam.
I have installed acer drivres, and do exaclty the steps in the first thread, but an ERROR appears while i m installing tha acer drivers. The installation CANT COMPLETE,cause the windows prevent it.Then,in the device manager the camera appears as ACER CRYSTAL EYE.Then i tried to gather drivers from internet for the camera now is called acer crystal eye,and then the webcam played ONLY ONCE,then i restarted my pc and same happens....webcam does not working again....
i dont know what to do,i have serched a lot,and the conclusion from what i have read from many forums is that msn and vista are making things worse when they are together.
of course if can someone can explain how to solve this,i would stanf treats many wines.... -
my webcam works, its just that the mic doesnt work
-
I'm sorry all of us have this problem but i found out something.
I have a tx1000 version tx1410us
My camera start failing 1 month after i got it and then 13 months later of course my warranty expired so this is the story.
1. I call HP to find a solution
The reply was ... we have a service plan for $xx amount
i said is there anything free it's just a web cam
rep replied ... no there's no support free you are on your own if you don't get the service
2. i started to look for a solution
i saw every single possible forum in all internet
some very bold solutions but seem to work for some people
i keep asking myself why is this happening to so many models so often
i follow some of this steps and nothing
untill i found the problem after a system restore.....
most of your cameras have never been damage or with HARDWARE problems
there's an update send by HP to microsoft of a USB device ( sonix in some cases or HLRK... etc etc in some others.
If you are using vista or XP it's the same situation.
Once your model is 1 year old or more you will get this update ( i'm not saying is conspiracy don't be so naive) that will make the usb device in your laptop to change the driver that will change your camera driver that will end in your camera not working.
I spoke with a friend of mine in HP in a higher position IN MIAMI by the airport where there are some headquarters.
They do this to make people pay for the support a few bucks PERIOD.
If you are not an advanced user better pay for it because it's not so simple.
If you are an advanced user this is the solution ... ( you should know by logic where and what I'm talking about in the following paragraph )
WORKS IN XP and VISTA any version
1. Look into system restore or try to remember the last time the camera as working.
2. Either .
a. go to that period of time and bum you camera works again
a.1 i don't recommend this because there will be an update and you will be back to the situation. AND IT TAKES TIME
b. see when the update of the USB device had place and see what's the name of the device usually is ... SONIX or HLRK** something i don't remember well because ( GUESS WHAT BEFORE THE UPDATE I HAD SONIX AFTER HE UPDATE I HAD HLRK**** , THIS MIGHT HAPPEN TO YOU SO BE CAREFUL TO REMEMBER BECAUSE WINDOWS UPDATE WILL TRY TO UPDATE THE DEVICE AGAIN AND BUM NOT WORKING AGAIN SO JUST REMEMBER IN WHAT POSITION THE USB WAS SO YOU CAN DO THE NEXT STEP.
c. left click in the device click update driver select from the list USB COMPOSITE DEVICE .... then ok.
d. all of a sudden you should have the imaging device coming up after refreshing.
e. bum your camera works
3. Reboot just for fun and security you know how windows is
4. Run WindowsUpdate
5. Review that everythins is working
a.1 if it's not working look for the USB again and select composite again
b. make sure you have the camera imaging device and if not you can install adding the camera thru imaging devices it should be there ( IF NOT you need to go back in time with your computer and do a system restore )
6. If nothing works reinstall your computer to original by defect
7. If it still doesn't work IT'S your hardware PERIOD.
I hope this can be of help for someone around there looking for a sane solution like me.
I i personally have to say.
I will not buy HP ever again.
And keep using as a main OS Linux as it's more reliable.
May the good spirits give you light in your quest and speed up your money making tools.
God speed
Exenfris -
it works. I just did it, thank you very much
-
Thanks for the detailed instructions for the acer webcam...
I have an HP dv9612ca (piece of cra*!!!) -
I followed your instructions to a "T" - and it all went as you said - except that I cannot find the "webcam" program anywhere -
Quickplay comes up - - however - it is a DVD player only - the camera symbol/icon that used to be on the quickplay page is gone -
Even in the HP quickplay program folder/files - tehre is a HPwebcam icon - but no associated program
Note - I had downloaded HP's quickplay version 3.xx upgrade -
any ideas / solutions??
thanks
GH -
Exenfris, thank you very much! Your solution solved my problems. I'm really pleased now. Your paragraph 5 worked very well and it solve my problems with my webcam. My notebook is HP dv6386eu and my os is Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit SP1. Now I can use Microsoft USB Video or Chinony's drivers. Probably I will not buy HP notebooks in the future due many problems with my notebook. Acer, Lenovo or Fujitsu Siemens fell better choises just now.
Greetings from Finland!

Hey guys i just bought a HP DV2415nr used and when i bought it, it didnt come with drivers. So i first went to HP's website to download all of the drivers. There are two things that dont work 1. the webcam and 2. the front headphone jacks. Can someone please help me out i've spent 3 hours researching on how to get the webcam to work, from updating the drivers to upgrading to vista service pack 1. Is there way to figure out if its the drivers fault of a hardware problem?
Thanks
Here is the a screen shot of what i get when i try to update the driver.

Hello, I have a HP Dv9700 - dv9815ef (as recognized by hp softwares update on their site) that I've downgraded to xp professional from vista.
I've tried your solution to install my integrated webcam, but it's still not working, I can't find acer crystal eye when I'm at this step:
13. Unchecked the "Show compatible hardware" checkbox.
14. Scrolled down to the Chicony manufacturer.
15. Chose the "Acer Crystal Eye webcam.
Can somebody help me to install the dv 9700 hp webcam for XP?
I'm trying to solve this problem since one week.

Dylan, Thanks for the webcam solution - It worked liked a charm. My HP dv9000 camera has been down for over a year, with no real help from HP. Your instructions were right on the money.
-
Did you follow the same exact steps as listed on the first page? -
and i did everythign u said and whan my labtop started it didnt give me any messages that it installed anything whan i checked my
Device Manager there wasnt any imageing devices there . i didnt even see the word image devie can u help me on this please. ive been workign on this for 2 months now ;/ -
I stumbled on this after hours of searching and testing, and it seemed like my solution but I now realize it is probably not, since it is for a laptop. I bought a logitech webcam c600 for a vista desktop, a slimline s3421p by HP. When I try to use it, it says it is already in use by another application. Tried msconfig and selective startup twice, reinstall software twice, different usb ports, etc, etc, nothing works. Neither HP nor logitech is willing to try any harder, at this point. I assume that this acer driver is not for a webcam design that is so universal that logitech would use it, right?
Thanks much!

Hi i did exactly wat u told but it doesnt work

Greetings,
After so many troubles, solution was simple.
Mine HP Pailion dv6000 had integrated webcam trouble, Msn, Yahoo, Skype could not initialize webcam, so I've downloaded a lot of drivers and classic instalation did not solve problem. OS is Win7 x64.
Resolved problem after couple hours this way:
1. Downloaded driver: sp34746, and unpack it.
2. Open DEVICE MANAGER
3. Under Imaging device you'll see USB cam or something similar, right click and properties
4. Choose tab driver, then Update driver, Browse for driver software on computer
5. Let me pick driver, Have disk, then browse for extracted softpack (usually location is C:\SWSetup\SP34746\WCAMR)
6. select .inf file and let the magic beginyou'll see and choose HP PAVILION WEBCAM device to install.
7. I didnt even have to restart PC after instalation everything worked fine!!!
Regards and hope to see you happy for this solution. -

It would appear that I just had the same problem alot of you have had. After several sleepless hours of trying to fix the problem with basically NO help from HP, I discovered a very simple solution. Especially if your driver doesn't show up under Imaging Devices in the drivers list, but does have something showing up in the USB drivers list. Here's how I solved it:
Click on your start menu and then click on your computer. Once that pulls up go to the C drive and look for a folder that is labeled SW Setup.
Open that folder and look for one labeled WCAM 1. Don't open it yet.
Now you need to open your start menu and right click on your computer, then you click on properties. Next click on Device Manager and when that opens look under the Imaging Drivers section first; if it's there fine, otherwise scroll down to the USB Drivers section and open it. There should be a driver for a webcam there. At this point you want to right click on the driver ( no matter which place it was in. ) and MAKE SURE THAT YOU CHECK THE LITTLE BOX that says delete driver software for this device at which time you can confirm the unistallation.
Now you go back to the SW Setup folder and open the WCAM 1 folder. You should see an icon that says setup. Click on that and let the wizard do it's thing. Once it has completely finished you can then go back to the device manager and it should now show up under the Imaging Device list.... and you're good to go. After you verify it's there, I would suggest restarting the computer so that the setting stays properly.
I hope this helps some of you and if not.... I'm very sorry.
WEBCAM PROBLEM SOLVED!! (fingers crossed, here's to hoping...)
