Mine was 1646 total shipped to Ill. That included a $50 off coupon that I used a few days before the $400 off one came out.
I called and got the extra $100 off because I was upset about that.
Then with shipping delays I called and got another 10% off.
So total cost to me was 1400.
This is my 5th or 6th laptop. I have bought from Dell, Asus,Toshiba, Sager, And now HP.
IN ALL CASES it pays to call....the online chat thing is useless. Also if you do not like what you hear be polite and keep pressing. The thing is the folks you talk too are people too and they respond (sometimes) to suger more than anger.
Worst case you pay what you originally agreed to. If you get a better deal...well that is icing on the cake!

...it's weird that some people got pushed back less than a week while others who ordered on the same date got pushed back 2 weeks. -

i think what im gonna do is play around with the new laptop and return it before jan 15. so i have a month to play with it. Then with the 15% coupon and HPA I will order another one with 8GB ram but more than 400$ off. -
i thought about doing that too. Really want the 8gb ram, but i got an extra $100 off so my 15 percent can't really beat $500 off anymore. I can add an extra 4gb card later. still have my 96gb kingston ssd with built-in garbage collection ready to install.

I should mention that I used BillMeLater so technically I've already fully paid for my laptop whereas credit card users aren't paying until time of shipping. So, I wonder if they try to get out BillMeLater customers first.

For instance, I placed my order on 11/11 and it still shows pending on BillMeLater.
It is in their best interest to get those orders out ASAP, in order to collect. -

My credit card was charged upon order for the laptop which makes it even more ridiculous that I haven't received it yet (many retailers don't charge the card until it ships).
I ordered my Envy 17 3D (upgrade to 8GB ram, + extra battery) on 11/1/2010 and like some of you, I got the delay notification after the initial build-by date. Original date was 11/12 and I got the delay message on 11/15 that it would be delayed until around 11/29.
I started chat-help/phone help around the 12th periodically bugging them for status and I kept getting told stuff like "check back in 24 hours, check back next business day, etc" and once I was even told that it had already shipped but that fedex just hadn't updated me yet because it was a saturday. Anyways, the overall feeling was that the folks at the indian call-center (which if I can believe the guy i talked to, are actually all HP employees and not some contract company) really dropped the ball on the customer support side.
After finding out about the delay I started trying to get the 10% discount that some of you were getting as a courtesy for the delay. They initially pretended not to know about it then admitted that I wasn't offered it because I had gotten the $400 off on the coupon code. I told them that was unacceptable because they were basically telling me that I deserved less courtesy than someone who paid full price. They conferred with manager and offered me a $50 credit which I took while I appealed the decision. After some further bungling on their part and talking to the call center agent's manager directly, I got shot down for the 10% but I got the email address they sent the request to so I could pursue it upwards myself. I got a short reply saying they had approved the 10% coupon and they were sorry about the problems I had with my order.
I spelled out all the faults that occurred (delayed info updates, product delay, phone agents lying/being useless and poorly trained) but I got the impression that they just approved the 10% to shut me up and don't plan on trying to improve the customer support or reprimand the various people who dropped the ball along the way.
If anyone wants that email address I used, I can send it to you if you send me a message. (I think this forum supports that). I guess for myself I'm satisfied with how HP handled it but I kinda fear for the rest of you and anyone that didn't even think to complain at all and just bent over and took it. I tend to argue with customer support often when I buy things and they mess up somehow and it's often more for the principle of the thing versus the actual monetary value i could get. In that sense, I don't think I won today because though I got the money, I don't think they plan on fixing it so they don't treat other people that way and force them to deal with a horribly inefficient support process.
edit: To clarify, I used the $400 coupon code AND got the 10% off coupon for the delay. (total savings around $540) The $50 I got offered in interim was removed in favor of the 10% off. I still somehow got that 15% off on future purchase thing which was bull because I had initially refused it but whatever. I will update when I get a shipping confirmation.
edit2: Ok wow, I missed a second reply from that HP person:
"Yes I will definitely bring up your concerns in our next customer service review. We appreciate your feedback so we can make improvements when they are needed."
That makes me a bit more hopeful that the next time I need their support, it won't suck so bad. -

I could write a book about how terrible my experience has been with HP in the past month - all of this unrelated to how long it's going to take to wait for this last order - so I won't bore you with any of the details.
Needless to say, I pray and hope that nothing goes wrong with this machine once I finally get it because if I ever have to call and speak to their Home & Office customer support or customer resolution people, I'm going to shoot myself in the face.
Support for technical issues are all nice and helpful. Also quite obviously local to the States. Dealing with returns, replacements, etc, etc, with those guys in India is nothing short of a full blown nightmare, however.
It's difficult to gain empathy from someone that probably has to work for a full year to earn what we spend on these computers though. That's at least how I see it. It doesn't help that there is a constant language barrier, which often times is setting the whole thing up for failure from the get go.
HP's outsourcing practices alone are enough to almost make me not want to do business with them. But then again, there are no options really, as far as that goes since everyone does it. -

Courtesy, logical arguments, and proper english will actually be appreciated here as it seems to be someone intelligent with a good command of the language. Hard to believe eh? I suggest you logically point out any actual failings of the system or things the call center peeps did wrong. Maybe they'll fix it if people complain enough... -

I just watched the 2 demo videos in 3D and they looked very sharp and clear. The NBA one is very cool Smooth and I really got the impression of depth. -

lol that youtube vid review has some errors. Core i9? lol are you kidding me? The screen even says Core i5, which isn't available for the Envy 17 3D at all.
Can't wait to see some pics/reviews/feedback/vids of this laptop once yal get some delivered. I've been waiting to pull the trigger on this laptop because I want someone to throughly review it first. Anandtech normally does a good job at their laptop reviews. I'm hoping they will review the Envy 17 3D. Maybe I'll buy it and send it to them to review, lol.
