This is the schedule you can expect especially until it departs alaska. this is from from first order in nov but the times are within mins apart from my current order. This central time. I set it at "destination" so all the times you see are central time not the time it is at the place the package is. I figured this may help some people.

I placed my order for my Envy 14 with Radiance display on 1/15, 11:15am PST and received a confirmation email today that my computer has been built and is ready to ship.

I just closed the "order status" page on HP's website and my tracking number has been posted, with Fedex tracking telling me my package is "in transit" and has been picked up in Shanghai.

I hope I don't have any issues and I hope everyone else's come in!

Thats interesting, I posted on hp's facebook Welcome to Facebook and they asked for my contact info to make it right. They called me today, (gal from idaho named Kira) and she gave me the exact same build minus the radiance display for 764.00 shipped.(originally my order was 1132.96) She was nice as could be, and gave me her direct #. So if i do have any problems w/ order I dont have to deal with the country of Iran.

it was actually 982.84, after $500.00 off w/radiance, and with 7 day shipping. So basically instead of having to configure it to 1399.00 she just credited me the difference + the free 2 day shipping.

    Hi everyone,

I've been following this thread ever since I hear about the cancellations from another friend that ordered.

I ordered mine on January 16th at around 4pm est time, and it has not been cancelled. My order status shows that it is still in production.

I can't wait to get my shipping information. This is my first non-Apple computer purchase and I am extremely dissapointed at HP and their customer service. Hopefully everyone that got screwed can get some sort of resolution.

    Hello Everyone,

I just received a call form an HP rep and offered me basically the same HP 14 build I placed, minus the radiance display. The total charge + free shipping was $794.00. I really wanted the Radiance Display, but I took the deal because a computer with the upgrades (I7, hard drive and ram upgrades) for under $800 is a great deal. The basic Envy 14, with no upgrades, was $900 everywhere else.

I love Apple computers and it was so much easier to afford them when I used to work for them. Additionally, with the release of Windows 7, the difference in my opinion is not enough to garner a price difference between Apple computers and regular PC's.

In my house I have a 24" iMac, Macbook Pro 15" (latest model), iPad, 4 iPods, and just recently built a new gaming PC. The stats for that one are:

    ASUS P6X58 D Premium MB
    Intel Core i7-930
    Radion HD 5870
    OCZ 6GB Ram
    Samsung F3 1TB

Finally, the addition of the Envy will round the group out. lol

You guys have any advice on an SSD both for my gaming PC and as a second HD for the Envy?

I'm been reading about some problems with Envy 14s. I'm wondering if these issues still exist?

    Keyboard flex
HP logo half lit (misplaced light source)
    CPU high pitched whine

In addition, I'm reading that HP clocked the GPU clocked at 450mhz, while most 5650 are clocked at 550, or even up to 650mhz. Is this still the case, how safe is it to overclock to 550, and 650mhz?

    Thanks!

I haven't seen any of those issues since November so I'm assuming they fixed it, but no garuntees...and yea the GPU is underclocked, pretty sure you could safely overclock it back to 550 though

Is the underclocked 5650 in the envy 14 less quality? Or are all ati 5650 the same?

not all 5650's are underclocked, the ones in the Acer notebooks are clocked at the standard 550..I guess HP underclocked it to reduce heat and power..not sure if I would call it less quality though since you can still overlock it, but im not sure if it can overclock as far as the standard 5650 is capable of

Ugh I just received my printer that I purchased with my Envy (non-radiance because, well, you all know why...) and guess what? The glass on the scanner is broken and there is glass EVERYWHERE!!!

So I called HP and not once did the CS rep say sorry. She sounded annoyed with me as she was processing my exchange. At this point, after going through the Envy cancellation and broken printer, HP should at least be providing me a free printer. I've never had such a terrible experience with any one company. This is just ridiculous.

    Sorry guys. End rant.

Has anyone in this thread had first hand experience with the regular display? How are the colors/black levels/viewing angles on it?

HP called me and offered the same deal as the gentleman above, I got the Envy I had ordered sans Radiance for $779. I went ahead and took the offer since it's a pretty good deal for that level of a laptop and figured I'd see what I thought of the regular screen once I receive it.

I canceled my Apple order and am going to hold off until the Envy arrives to evaluate it. Just afraid it's going to be a low quality screen and/or I won't like the resolution (I am coming from a Dell Inspiron 9300 with a 1920 x 1200 LG LCD which was an EXCELLENT display). If that's the case either the 15' Macbook Pro or Dell XPS 15 w/1080p display with be my fallbacks.

I had a beats edition which i was extremely happy with. The bright view is fine. It's nothing crazy but there isn't anything bad about it by any means. The veiwing angles are fine. Color and brightness aren't bad. Of course i jumped at the radiance only because i could trade my laptop and get radiance and extra ram for the same price. Don't listen to anyone say it's horrible because its not. Its a good screen imo. Won't turn heads but also people won't make fun of it either. I had a very detailed background image and my roomate (granted he has a 2008 compaq) was amazed.
For that price i think you made the right decision. Form your own opinion on it because there is so many negative posts on it from folks that most probably haven't even seen one. sorry for the rant and you may disagree with me as ive never seen the radiance to compare the two.

I for one wish that somebody who has access to both BrightView AND Radiance made a video comparing them side by side, and clear this issue once and for all. Of course, if you watch it on a regular screen you won't see the real difference :D (but it should still make the point)

I had an Envy 14 with Brightview for about a week, I must say it's a fine screen.
As others said viewing angle, colors and contrast are good.

Only downside is the glare, but that's the problem of most laptops with a glass screen.

I jumped on the radiance because I could still return my previous order. Otherwise I would been fine with it.

I came from a 17" 1920 x 1200 display and honestly, the brightview screen isn't bad. I really like this laptop and the screen is by no means bad. viewing angles and everything seem fine. The radiance is just a better screen, that doesnt mean the brightview is bad.

I've had 1st hand experience with two Envy 14s with the regular display, and I thought that the colors, black levels, viewing angles and clarity were all below average for 1366x768 displays. I'm still not certain that there wasn't something defective with those 2 units, but another forum member has revealed that the Envy brightview infinity display is actually a matte display behind a glossy panel - i.e., you get the worst of both worlds - which would explain why it appears, at least to my eyes, to be below average. I also came from an excellent higher res display (Dell 1600x900 14") and I was really unhappy with the Envy brightview display. As others have pointed out, however YMMV and you might be more than happy with it as many others are.

Would overclocking be a bad idea with an Envy 14 than? Due to it's size / heat/ hardware config?

I had an envy for a few weeks (BV screen) and would give it a 5 on a rating of 1 to 10. Not terrible, but nothing special. The glare was horrendous in bright light (it does have a glass screen over it's matte panel, so it's to be expected.). Also, I am kind of a resolution Nazi, which is the reason I returned the order and opted for the radiance (which was cancelled), but the screen does the job. If I was not getting an SSD however, I probably would have went with something with a better resolution.

I can say that the build quality was excellent, I felt like I could slam the thing against a wall and the wall would cave in. It was a little on the heavy side, but what do you expect from something that could bust through my wall.

good comparison although the brightview is not on an Envy (people say that the Envy has a higher class brightview hence the name brightview infinity), I also noticed on my brightview how the whites look a little reddish...but not noticeable until compared to another screen

You have it wrong...the infinity BV is worst than the regular BV. I compared the Envy's screen with other HP BV at Microcenter. My BV has a speckle issue because they put a matted screen underneath the gloss. Dumb engineering.

Well, I have on hand a DV5 with the HP BV 1366x768 and Envy 14 with Radiance (post above is the photo). I also have an Envy 17 with the 1920 x1080 BV Infinity that has a spec of 300 nit versus the Radiance 350 nit. While I do like the 17 resolution (1920x1080), I have to say that the color saturation and brightness of the Radiance is much better. I wish they had a Radiance type screen for the 17, as well. The BV is a good screen but the Radiance is awesome.

I may be wrong on this one, but I believe the only difference between the infinity and the regular brightview is that the infinity goes edge to edge and uses a glass panel over the matte screen. The glass panel is awesome for protection/easier to clean, but is a glare magnet.

Honestly, by being a pain in the . It's unfortunate that that's what it takes for HP to man up and fix their mistake but so be it. After this comp dies (I am only buying it because it's $750 off, hypocritical I know), I am so far gone from HP it's not even funny. They have no idea how much business they lost between the people I've told, the people I will tell, and the people they will tell. Last company that crossed me was Enron, we all saw how that turned out. :)

I was NEVER contacted by HP. I received an email 4 days AFTER my order showed it was cancelled under order status. I contacted them by using the number on their home and office page.

I figured i'd take a look at the apple line-up, just for curiosities sake.

MacBook Pro uses one of the fastest memory technologies available today — 1066MHz, Double Data Rate (DDR3), synchronous dynamic random-access memory (SDRAM) — ensuring that the Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i5, or Core i7 processor is constantly fed with data without wasting clock cycles.

    4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
    8GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB [Add $400.00] HA!

Also tack on another $750 for a 256GB SSD, that's not as ridiculous, but it reminds me why I stay far far away from apple notebooks.

I was originally contacted the day after I initially ordered (Wednesday) by a nice gentleman who had "compelling offers" since I didn't get the radiance. He initially tried to get me a SSD as I requested and came back with a offer of giving me an SSD if I paid half the cost (which I turned down). I continued to push for the SSD at no cost to me, that's when he transferred me to resolutions which is where I hit a brick wall. Resolutions told me they'd send an email seeking authorization and contact me back in 3 days. I never heard from them so I called back on Tuesday directly to resolutions and got another foreign agent. I kept asking for the SSD and she kept shooting me down. Finally I just told her I'd take the laptop @ what I paid less the $200 for the Radiance. She tried a bunch of coupons and kept saying I needed to spend $1399 to get the coupon, so I finally gave up and just decided to forget about it.

Then Wednesday I got a call from the original gentleman (who's with the HP Home and Home Office Store). He said he saw the account notes where I was willing to take the computer for the price I paid less the $200 credit and that he had just gotten authorization from his supervisor to do it if I was still interested. I took him up on his offer and thanked him (super nice guy).

So to answer your question IMO be persistent (but be POLITE) and try to deal with the reps at the Home and Home Office store as they seem a lot more helpful.
