Redirecting to another address costs extra.
Another solution is to ask a neighbour to receive it for you. That's what I did one time. I just left a note on my door telling the driver to deliver next door. It worked great.
Since then I get all UPS/Fedex deliveries at work.

I started it up just now, so far it's been running fine. The screen is definitely way better than most laptops I have seen : it's crisp, rich and pixels are sharp.
Because of the Envy's glass finish glare is still there but not as much an issue.
I am at work, so I can't sit in front of it all the time xD. I'll check it some more tonight as I don't see obvious flaws so far. -
on a side note from all this shipping talk and stuff, does anyone know of any good deals on 4gb upgrades for the hp envy? I am looking forward to maxing out the ram on it pretty much asap
-
-
i think ill pass lol. Ill wait till they come down a little more. I remember when i got my 1005ha, it was like 20$ for the 2gb, i guess this price makes sense. But still, maybe ill wait a bit to see if i really need it
-
Sooooo I ended up opening the thing and no regrets and no defects!!! It is one beautiful machine!
Super tempted to buy an SSD for it...there is an OCZ Vertex 2 120GB on newegg for 169.99 after rebate. Haven't pulled the trigger yet. -
120gb is a bit too small for me, I'll wait for the 256 to get a bit cheaper.
So I can get some use out of this 500gb HDD before retiring it to backup my files (through USB adapters). -
---HP Email ----
From: Cto-esc Hpshopping <[email protected]
So I checked the part# in the HP parts store, and while it looks like it is available it is actually not.
HP Parts Store - HP Computer Parts - HP Printer Parts - Compaq Parts
I called and spoke to a rep and he said that the part is on back order and is going to be taken off their site. It is just taking some time to have that done.
---End HP email ---- -
Received mine today in Chicago, ordered 1/15 as previously posted. Radiance, 6 GB, i5-560.
Initial reactions: wowed by the keyboard and apparent chassis build quality even more than the screen; this is a most comfortable machine. No noticeable keyboard flex, touchpad tilt, or unevenness in lighting. My thanks to the forums for tipping me in this direction.
Initial problem: "no battery is detected" in system tray. Specifically, battery #1, not present, battery #2, not present. I am of course sure there is the expected 8 cell inside (still on first boot, so haven't powered off to replace).
I see at least one mention of this on an older HP machine in the forums. Anyone else have this issue / recommendation on fix? -
Mine's still 'in production' for February 1st... that's tomorrow just in case you were wondering HP!!!
-
It should ship like 4am est I would say. At least thats when I got my email saying it was shipped. All our laptops will most likely be on the same flight out of shanghai because mine is saying "Package received after FedEx cutoff" which essentially means "sorry your package missed the flight". So dont worry, I am pretty sure all our packages should be on the same flight

so far so good, no problems whatsoever. Seems to run smooth, no dead pixels, fan is not noisy and the screen is pristine.
I am pretty happy about the switchable graphics as well, it isn't hard to switch (a thing I feared originally).
I have not tested the battery life yet. I will tomorrow when I am at work and can let it stay idle.
Only one cosmetic thing that some people noticed before : the trackpad is slightly raised above the body. I noticed that because the i7 I returned had a flush trackpad. However, for me, it's a non-issue as I hardly ever use the trackpad.
Now, I will try to run some benchmarks on it and see how it compares to the i7-920. -
-
Edit: I'm insterested in your opinion because I recall you pretty convinced of getting a Lenovo if your Radiance was cancelled... so now that you've used both, it'd be interesting to know if you think you'd have kept the BV and be happy about it -
Just got my Envy 14 radiance today!
Having used both the BV and radiance envy 14s, I feel the radiance isnt a night and day difference. Sure it is a very good display, but I honestly think the mac displays are better. The radiance has a reddish tint that I noticed at bootup. The display didn't really wow me as much as I thought it would.
Also, I noticed that my trackpad is not completely flush. The right side a quite a bit higher than the left. Is this a common problem? -
Just opened mine up and messed around with it. Build quality is just as solid as my first (BV) Envy. The touchpad is slightly raised on the right side but I'm not going to worry about it as it's barely noticeable.
The radiance display is fantastic as everyone else can attest to. Colors are bright, resolution is great, etc. One thing that is a little weird on mine though is that if I look at the screen from a very extreme (almost parallel) angle left or right, there is what looks like a 'rainbow' discoloration in the center. It isn't the actual display as I can see the 'rainbow' whether the machine is on or off. It's 100% unnoticeable at any other angle than the very sides, so I'm not sure what this is. I would speculate that maybe the 'glass' isn't sitting perfectly over the display? I really hope it isn't moisture collected due to turning the laptop on while it was still cold (I let it sit at room temperature for 2 hours before powering on). -
Looks like this batch all had the raised touchpad problem. Bummer for me cause I hardly ever use a mouse. -
In anycase, I can't see it at all when using the laptop as normal.
EDIT: Actually on second thought, I am going to try to get a replacement screen for this if I can. blahhhhh -
-
-
The one thing I hate about getting new stuff is that I am constantly ocd about it, like picking on every minuscule detail
-
According to the guy it goes away over time. I'm not too worried about it anymore. -
-
The slightly raised trackpad shouldnt be a problem i think, as your fingers stay on the surface and not it's edge. Even then it should not affect precision as the trackpad itself is sturdily installed (has no play or movement).
I did some passmark benchmarks. For some reason the hard drive and the ram are ~5-6% faster than on the i7, which is surprising to me since the i7 is running at 1333 mhz and the i5 at 1066.
For the 3D test it stands 10% below the i7 and for the CPU it's 15% below the i7. So for a possible gain of 100% in battery life, I think it's pretty sweet !!!
Temperature wise the CPU reached 80C at the most, which is borderline OK. The GPU never got higher than 65C using furmark and an overclock up to 585.
The surface of the laptop did not get hot while doing regular tasks which is good. Only during gaming and CPU intensive tasks it got warm around the upper right corner.
The DVD drive is a bit noisy , but so was the i7. I hardly ever use it so it's not a problem.
As for the screen:
About the reddish tint, I don't really see it. I thought about it at 1st , but now I believe it's probably because the colors are richer. Colorwise, the blues are clearly blue, greens are green and so on.
The blacks are also excellent for a laptop LCD, the back light is well balanced so you don't see so much of it like on other laptops (many have haloed and uneven blacks).
All in all this screen is one of the best i have seen around.
The brightview is a decent alternative, I would have gone for it just because the Envy has exactly the hardware i need in a quality build and size (sub 15) that I need.
If my order would have been cancelled I would probably gone a Sandy Bridge Lenovo Y460P. Now that I have this one I am pretty happy as the Lenovo only had a 1366x768 display and mostly because Sandy Bridges are getting massively recalled by Intel !!!!
So I strongly feel this laptop is what I need for the coming few years. I am a gamer at heart (been PC gaming since 87') but I tend to play the same games for several years in a row, so I change my hardware only every 4-5 years. Right now this little beast plays Left 4 Dead and Killing Floor like a champ !! So I am happy
As I have a good desktop I won't use it every single day, so I hope it won't wear out too fast!! -
Am I the only one who is not ecstatic about the radiance display? I went to Best buy to check out the Macbook airs and I found the display on that much richer. The radiance still feels a little "bland".
-
I'll have to go and check the macbooks again to give a final opinion on this.
-
Well, I also got my Envy today, and it looks like there's a dead pixel!
Does anyone else have any dead pixels? Mine is nearly centered horizontally, about 2" from the bottom. Otherwise, I think the screen is beautiful! I'm not sure it'd be worth it to get a replacement though... Seems like the next screen could have the same problem, with well over a million pixels!
EDIT: I've been looking at this more, and it seems like it might actually be a spec of dirt/dust under the screen. *sigh* It looks a bit bigger than a pixel and isn't quite black... -
You should be able to get a repair from HP. But it may take a while.
-
ryanvid1a: yes I did get standard shipping. Im guessing you may have got 2 day shipping? I dont think it was worth the extra 40$ for it. My package is on the move again, currently in transit. It was sitting for about a day since it missed the cut off. I am excited, too bad I have a good amount of hw to do before friday
-
I'm going through the online chat right now to set up a repair. When I was looking for the product number, serial, etc. I saw it listed the warranty as 1y/1y/0y, when the website clearly says it comes with a 2 year warranty! Has anyone else noticed this?!
EDIT: The CSR assures me it was updated to 2 years in their records.
EDIT 2: The whole process is supposed to take 7-9 days. One thing I found amusing is the script they use:

Ok HP, you have less than 18 hours to ship out my laptop or else I'm calling and asking for a partial refund for the delay.
-
and mine still hasn't shipped! I'm really getting worried now that somehow I missed a cancellation email or phone call or something...
EDIT: same situation here darkprime... -
mine hasn't shipped either..did they make any shipments at all this morning? I haven't seen any "mine shipped" posts..
-
My unit, ordered on Thursday, just shipped. They upgraded me to 2-day shipping, which the email I got indicates, however FedEx says that estimated delivery is Feb 9. Did anyone else with 2 day shipping run into this issue?
Edit: Just realized this may have to do with Chinese New Years. If anyone else's ships soon, be prepared for a long "estimated delivery" wait. -

Has anyone checked their FedEx tracking number to see where their Envy 14 is shipping out of? For those that ordered the Envy 14, is yours shipping out of Shanghai, China?

lovelaptops MY FRIENDS CALL ME JEFF!
, to be bright, with excellent, accurate looking colors. FYI, if you check the review of the E14 with radiance in notebookcheck.net (they did a follow up with the BV screen, earlier with radiance) you'll see it has pretty much the exact same color gamut as the MBP 17, Dell Studio XPS RGBLED, and Adobe. It's the real deal.
