Good. From what I recall, if HP does not ship on time, you have a right to get an additional discount! Yeah, some people got at least 10% off their orders for delay. So, either way you win. Got to love HP for that.

I hope that's the case but.. I think they delay up to a week and give u 15% for another item but if it goes after 1 week u get I think 10-20% off.

I just got a call from 1800-492-3341 I think there resolution lines, and was offered my original order with the 450m slice battery and radiance at 950 for 750 essentially shipped. Subtracting the 200 off the order for the radiance screen not being available. I told them I was following the orders placed on a forum and noted that some people were able to get discounted SSD's in their models instead, however they acted like I was lieing, and that it's impossible to do so blah blah blah. And that'd they'd give me an extra 8 cell battery instead of the slice since it's not available at this time.
I asked that since I wasn't able to get alot of the items I originally ordered, if I could upgrade the processor and drop the slice and the 8 battery but then they were again pretty stubborn about changing my original config with the additional 200 off.
I might call back with a different rep and ask to see if I can just add the SSD and not get an extra battery with the 450m for 824.99 plus tax. Do you think the increased performance gains from the SSD and the low price make it worth enough to not have the radiance screen?
For those of you who had both models is the radiance screen just that much superior than the other that the BV isn't even worth considering? Or is the BV just a standard screen while the radiance is just the best on the market. I'm not sure what the best method to pursue with HP is.

Hp doesnt have the slice in stock anymore so they have to let you change the order. They offered me the same deal. I got 804.99 shipped taxes and 2 day shipping. tax was $110 here in ny so its a good deal. They let me upgrade to a I5 580m and 6gb of memory to replace the slim battery thats no longer in stock. You will see increased performance with an ssd but its something that can easily be upgraded so I went with the processor. I have a kingston 64gb ssd in this computer and the performance increase was very noticeable.
-
bigphil233, yeah. Call again, get a diff. rep. They are human afterall, and each has their own personality. Good luck finding a really cool one who will let you get the SSD, you deserve it after what HP put you and the rest though regarding the radiance screen fiasco, lol.
KJ -
I know your all prob like 64gb SSD thats nothing! lol. I've had it for a while and its only 20gb full. It comes with an external adapter for your old HDD so you can store all your music and pictures and anything else you want on the external drive. I've had no problems with it and it was like $70 so I will prob stick it in my envy when it comes. This is what you can expect from a cheap ssd. I just ran this a min ago. No safe mode or anything. This computer is a dv2550se 1.5 core 2 duo so my new envy will prob do better. I also dont tweak anything the ssd is just stuck in there.
-
somebody should run a test on an envy with ssd so we can see your numbers.
-
My Envy is currently in Alaska. Hurry up.
-
did anyone order the screen from the parts store?
-
-
bigwood212 I emailed back a response which was similar along the lines to what skor99 just said minus the SSD part and got a phone call directly telling me they have an AMAZING OFFERRRR FOR ME!! haha, so maybe shoot them an email in reply to the 500 dollar off one from a while back. Might be worth a shot. Good luck

it's now Feb 1st and my order is still in production

Do not take no for an answer! Lol.

I was told that my Envy had a build day of Feb 17th, after I accepted there deal without the Radiance Display ($794.00). The Envy actually shipped today and will arrive within two days.
-
-
Still in production.. build date/ship date is today, but I'll wait to complain until tomorrow since they have until midnight EST to ship my envy
-
Good luck! -
My envy is currently in Alaska!! I hope to visit the state, as well!

Ugh, they're adamant that they can't take off the 200 dollars from the total unless the radiance display was there originally on my offer. Aka I was saying alright take my envy 14 order with i5 450m remove the slice battery which isn't in stock and remove the radiance display add drop the price down to 746 (899 + tax - 200) w/ possibly an extra battery. Or pay the full retail for the SSD at 1024.99 plus tax with no upgrades. Essentially keep the laptop the same subtract 200, or use another 500 coupon.
He offered free express shipping and 25 bucks off the 1024.99 model. so basically down to 999.99 plus shipping.
What's the better deal?
Keep calling HP? haha -
You have nothing to lose, but I can't see how they would just say no. At least they will offer you a 10%-15% coupon on your next order, but I'd push for the 10% off this one....
KJ -
Yup mine is in Alaska so I guess all of ours are shipped in bunches and get split up later.
-
SSD ~$1000 is not bad..but other people were able to get an i5 560m plus the SSD for around the same price
-
They are subtracting my $200 now for not having the screen anymore but I am not replacing it with anything so all the 200 off really does is let me drop below the 1399 configuration limit on the coupon. I could've gotten the ssd for 999 again but I already have one anyway and can always upgrade that for around the same price. -
-
.

deleted sorry.
-
What's a better deal?
i5-580m for 750 or i5-460m with SSD for 999+ tax is what it comes down to. -

If you are not doing any Virtualization work, then you really aren't missing much from the i5-580M vs. i5-450M. They both get comparable performance that often doesn't justify the upgrade price to a i5-5xxM. The SSD is more worth it. HOWEVER, only if it is a high capacity one in this case. -
heres my equation:
The SSD is worth ~$500, so if you get the $750 deal, it will end up costing you ~$1250 to get to the same place
The i5 580M sells for like $300 on eBay, so if you get the $999 deal it well end up costing you $1300 to get to the same place, but changing CPU's can be complicated and plus you won't have warranty on it
getting the i5 580m and the SSD from HP will only cost ~$1150 to get to the same place
EDIT: Im assuming they're offering the 256GB SSD which is the only one HP offers now on their website -

That being said, if your sales agent does give you both upgrades for a little bit more than a grand, then take that! -
The most I'd be using the laptop for is casual gaming, and internet browsing, and occasional working remotely from home. Which I guess is virtualization right? If I log in remotely to another system that logs in remotely to another system? I can definitely upgrade to the i5-580m as it's still in constraints of the original coupon, I just don't know if it's worth the extra 150.
Oh the SSD is the 256gb version. -
-
it all comes up to personal preference.
You can always upgrade the ssd later. The processor you can not. Now will you ever fill up a 250gb ssd or will you ever want a slightly faster processor?
Its all up to you my friend. You can actually get a smaller ssd if your not using up the space anyway. Take a look at how much space your using now. See if you would need 256gb. If not I say upgrade other stuff and buy a smaller ssd for whatever you wanna pay later. -
I should note a lot of people expect the cost of an ssd to drop significantly in the next 6 months.
-
My build date is Feb. 21st, hopefully it will ship early as yours did. Have fun.

Just watched a few 720p and 1080p videos with the radiance screen. I noticed that the edges seem alittle jagged for some reason, but colors looked good. Can anyone else test this?
-
By edges do you mean the edges of the video or edges of things inside the video? -
I was recently offered by HP to keep the same build without the radiance display for $774. Is that a good price for an HP Envy 14 with: i5-580m, 4gb ram, 640gb 7200rpm HD, 1300x780 brightview? I wanted them to throw in the 8gb ram but they would budge. I still haven't ordered anything yet...i have until feb. 4th to make the decision. I haven't confirmed if this is all in after tax and everthing..or the base price. Please advise to let me know if this is an acceptable price for this build.
