    I just got the cancellation notice - ordered on Jan. 15

    It's dumb that they didn't explain anything in the email - and even worse that they took orders after the first 400. The CSR I talked to said 270 orders have been cancelled so far, and more are coming.

    Well if it really is that their screen provider failed them it's not really their fault.

    Its not like they are taking your money and sending you a worse screen with out telling you.

    I'm still pissed they cancelled but I got them to upgrade me to an SSD and Single Dimm 4GB instead of 2d Dimm for $70.

    TO ALL PEOPLE ABOUT TO CALL IN-

    They WILL give you the $500 plus a $200 off so pretty much $700 off an envy build. Don't cave in. Plus 2 day shipping

    New Build

    * Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    * Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-560M Dual Core Processor (2.66 GHz, 3MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 3.2GHz
    * 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 5650 switchable graphics [HDMI] - For Dual Core Processors
    * 4GB DDR3 System Memory (1 Dimm)
    * 256GB (Solid State Drive Flash Module)
    * No Additional Office Software
    * 8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery (standard) - Up to 6.0 hours of battery life +++
    * 14.5" diagonal High Definition HP BrightView Infinity LED Display (1366x768)
    * SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support
    * HP TrueVision HD Webcam and Dual Digital Integrated Microphones
    * Intel Wireless-N Card with Bluetooth
    * Backlit Keyboard
    * Adobe(R) Photoshop(R) Elements 8 & Adobe Premiere(R) Elements 8
    * HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope

    $1644.99 + $39 for 2 day. So $1683

    Came out to $960 something.

    Wait, so you got them to take off the Radiance and give you $200 back, keep the $500 off coupon, and a SSD + single dimm for $70?

    So your entire build was like $850? With SSD?

    If so, you won.

    To clarify,

    I called the standard HP rep # 800-BUY-MYHP and told them my story of what happened nicely. The guy was really apologetic and told me that something had to be done to fix the order and then he was going to forward me to his supervisor.

    He told me story to the supervisor and then placed me on the line with her. Right away she said they will honor the $500 coupon and that they will credit me the $200 for the screen and that I can select upgrades for that $200. I WAS NOT happy with that in the slightest. I said the only thing that would make up for it would be an SSD. She put me on hold for 2 min. Told me that they could not cover the SSD but she could give me a slight discount and give me an additional $200 credit and 2 day shipping. I agreed, and built as shown in my previous post for the price I listed. Good luck to all.

    I have to wonder if they did in fact find a new manufacturer what the wait time would be for the new supply. If they cancel my order, I may request a $500 off coupon that I can use the next time they get Radiance displays in stock.

    I'm trying to decide if any other upgrade / discount will make up for the radiance display, as that is really the reason I ordered the Envy 14 to begin with. Is the standard display good quality? Other than the reduced resolution, how is the brightness, contrast quality in general?

    scrapped the radiance display and added the slim battery for the same price. She put in a credit of $539 to still use that 500 coupon code and also added the 39 for shipping. I originally had standard shipping. The only thing that sucks is my build date went from february 1st to february 25

    A $200 discount on top of the removal of the Radiance display (a $200 option) sounds like a pretty good deal. I'm still trying to figure out how HockeyDr09 managed to get an Envy 14 with an SSD for under $1,000. :eek:

    Yeah, I'd reconsider this, were I you. They just made you spend $200 on something you didn't want and upgraded your shipping to get you a laptop a month after you were supposed to get it...

    Persistence :laugh:. Honestly I have no idea what she did. She had to of given me $739 off, plus lowered the price of SSD. Remember when you call that they fully have it within their power to at the very least credit you an additional $200 and free 2 day shipping. As for the discounted SSD, it's probably the luck of the draw mixed with some persuasion tactics.

    My order was inexplicably cancelled today. I talked to online chat person and they said it was a parts shortage. I can only imagine it was the Radiance display.

    I called the HP customer service line that the person gave me in chat and got some lady I could barely understand, but she said I would be getting an e-mail about what the deal is soon.

    I understand the frustration from all of you, but let me try to make you feel a little better and give back to this forum. This comes from a guy who ordered the standard BV from Amazon before Radiance was "back" and got *really* frustrated when the $500 off + Radiance offer came in (which would've made me get a better spec'd machine for less), but I couldn't just cancel from Amazon and order from HP like most of you. You see, I'm not from the US.

    First, I got really pissed off I couldn't get the Radiance after it came back. But you know, it was never an option for me in the first place, and yet I was pretty happy to get an Envy 14. I'm a tech guy, I'm a software developer, so I did my research very well (that's how I got to this forums actually). Looked at all the Dell's, the Toshiba's, the Vaio's. Then I stumbled upon the Envy. Let me tell you, regardless of the screen, *none* of the other brands offered anything that looks and feels as high end as an Envy, with the exception of the extremely overpriced Macbooks. Most of the Windows laptops look and feel cheap, no thought on the design process, materials, most look bloated. No "wow" factor at all.

    So, let me be emphatic about this, you are still getting a great laptop, regardless of the display. HP's customer support and marketing "mishaps" suck, that's for sure, and you have every right to blame them and be mad a them. But the Envy is still one of the best laptops around in terms of overall specs/build quality/price you can get, if not the best. Wired magazine didn't name it "Computer of the Year" just because of the screen.

    Coming from a third-world country where customer support is pretty much close to none, I must remind you that you should cherish that HP even answers the phone, not to mention that they offer you good deals to atone for their mistakes. We can try to guess what happened here, we'll never know for sure, but it might not even be their fault. Let's just hope that someday they can offer the Radiance again for sure.

    Hope this helps you ease things a little bit :)

    I just got off the phone with them, they said that they are canceling all orders because they are updating the specifications for the ENVY 14. It's possible that they are putting Intel Sandy Bridge CPUs and Radeon HD 6xxxM Series GPUs in the newer notebooks. One can only hope that a 1600x900 or higher resolution will be part of the deal. But I doubt I'll be able to use the same $500 coupon, although I will try. They said they will be calling me tomorrow to see if I still want to buy the notebook with the updated specs.

    Very true, we are a bit spoiled here in the US.

    Coming from Europe, I know it's near impossible to return a product that has no flaws just because you don't like it. And even with a flaw, you are more likely to only get an exchange/repair and no refund.

    If all the orders are cancelled we would all get the same notice at roughly the same time. It seems they cancel orders on a on case per case basis as supplies dwindle?

    Well mine just got canceled =( Ordered Jan 17th, this is the email i got.

    Dear Valued Customer,

    Thank you for your recent computer order. Due to an overwhelming response to our Envy 14 series and Radiance Technology we are unable to build your notebook as ordered. Unfortunately, the Radiance display is no longer being made by our supplier. As a result of this supply situation, we have had to cancel the notebook portion of your order. We regret this occurred and sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

    If you ordered any peripheral products (printers, cameras, monitors, etc.) they have not been affected and most likely have already been shipped to you. You will be receiving an email confirmation of the cancellation. Your credit will be processed immediately and electronically transmitted to your bank and will reflect in 3-5 business days.

    To compensate you for this cancellation, we are offering a $500 discount off the price of another Pavilion PC or Envy 14 priced at $1399 or higher (excluding the Envy 17) if you choose to reorder by February 4, 2011. We will also cover the cost of express shipping. To place a new notebook order, we have three options available to you:

    * Place a qualifying new order on our website ( www.hpshopping.com) and respond to this email with your order # (starts with H). If you have any questions you can chat with one of our agents at www.shopping.hp.com/shop/liveassistance. A credit at order shipment will be issued.
    * Respond to this email and request one of our specialists call you. Please provide a recommended day, time, and contact number.
    * Call our Sales Center at your convenience at 866-217-6014.

    Our apologies that this issue occurred as we value your business. We hope to hear from you soon.

    ANDDDDDDDDD.... cancelled.
    Their offer is that I get $500 off any HP product or Envy priced $1399 or higher )(except Envy) which is the same offer I started off to begin with. So essentially they want me to go ahead and order the same thing, wait MORE time for the brightview. Freakin ridiculous.

    I'm fighting for an SSD instead of the radiance.

    For anyone who has seen my previous posts...

    HP ENVY 14 customizable Notebook PC
    • Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    • Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-560M Dual Core Processor (2.66 GHz, 3MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 3.2GHz
    • 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 5650 switchable graphics [HDMI] - For Dual Core Processors

    • Intel Wireless-N Card with Bluetooth
    • Backlit Keyboard
    • Adobe(R) Photoshop(R) Elements 8 & Adobe Premiere(R) Elements 8
    • HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelop

    My build
    I just received all the details of the order

    $1644.99 - $500 brings it to $1144.99
    They added $39 for shipping +$103 for NY tax
    This brought the bill to $1287 total.

    After the fee was charged I was credited $239 bringing my final order price to

    $1048.

    Accounting for how much of that is NY sales tax I am probably looking at a final pre-tax price of $962

    Make sure you call and use my case as evidence, as it proves it is within the realm of possibility.

    * Disclaimer
    I had an issue with Bill me later, they have to wait a day to finalize the billing because it takes a day to process the refund. There is still a chance I may be screwed, but I wrote everything down to a T, so I don't think I will have any problems. Good luck.

    I havent got an email either. If they had no radiance at ALL , all orders would have been cancelled. Unless each cancellation is done one by one.

    It would be silly to offer the Radiance for a few days and actually have none in stock or order.

    Has anyone thought of getting the Dell XPS 15 instead? From what I've read the 1080p display is stunning. I'm thinking of this since most of the time I'm looking at my laptops display and not at the case. Don't get me wrong, nice asthetics is good and all but laptops with 1366x768 resolution are a dime a dozen. It's the display which really makes the Envy special AFAIC

    14.5" is the biggest i can go for. I have a good desktop at home, so anything bigger is silly for me.
    I need something portable with a +4h battery and decent gaming capabilities. The envy 14 fits my needs and pricing range beautifully.

    For such a big company and large financial pockets...it bogs me that HP did not confirm that they had the radiance display or contract with the supplier before they allowed this to go on the web. Now they are going to suffer such a black eye from all the poor press. This sucks and i'm frustrated at them. Even with a SSD substitution and 1 ram slot upgrade as a consolation...it's still not that good of a deal. The biggest selling point was the radiance display. I can't believe with all the technology out there that there's nobody else that makes radiance display. The only saving grace iis for them to announce that they have a new envy 14 refresh with stronger cpu, graphics card, radiance display for $1000 in 2 months. Anything longer than that is unacceptable.

    I wonder if anyones going to get fired over this. It's quite a decent sales lose.
