Or give all canceled orders a rain check for $500 off the refreshed envy's ?

My order is still not cancelled, but I placed it early on the 15th.

lol are you serious? a stronger cpu, graphics AND radiance display for under a $1000. The deal at $980 taxed and shipped after the $500 off coupon was such a hit because that price is unheard of. A 256gb ssd is pretty expensive and even with that and the ram it comes out to close to $1750 and some change. That's a 40% cut off retail price. id say its a damn good deal for a corporate screw up which happens all the time. At least the radiance screen doesnt lose it signal when you hold it a certain way *ahem. design flaw.

I don't recommend the Sony EB, it doesn't even come close to Envy-level build quality. I think the only thing remotely comparable to the Envy14+radiance would be the Dell XPS 14 with the $80 screen swap (for a 1600x900 screen).

If my Envy 14 order is canceled (specs ordered on sig), I don't know what to do.. I really don't want the dell XPS and I don't want the pavillion dv6t quad with its crappy screen... maybe they will at least offer a new envy model soon

Guys I just called and found out how many orders were cancelled. 376 orders were cancelled because of the lack of displays available. There is a list of order numbers that are on the cancel list. The csr checked if my number was on the list and it was not!! So as of now my order has not been cancelled. She told me this may change as a new list may come out. So if you guys are curious about the status of your order just call hp resolutions team and ask them to check your order number on that list. By the way i ordered my laptop on Jan 15. But this means that there are 376 disappointed customers.

My order has not been cancelled yet, here's my configuration/price:

    - Intel Core i5-580M
    - 8GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    - 256GB (Solid State Drive Flash Module)
    - Radiance Display
    - Everything else default

I did not order 2 day shipping, warranty, or anything else. Other than that and the i7, I've pretty much maxed out my Envy 14 build. FYI, I paid by credit card early in the morning of the 17th (12:30 AM).

With the $500 off coupon and tax, my total comes out to $1,616.49. Earlier I read that perhaps they aren't cancelling any high-priced orders, so if mine gets cancelled we'll know that isn't true (but HP, please don't use me as an example!).

I'm not sure how reliable CSRs are. I was told that once "in production" my order cannot be canceled. And that if my order was not on the list, it won't be put on it at a later date.

I hear where you're coming from. If 1366 x 768 on a 14.5 inch screen wasn't bad enough, those pixels are now stretched across 15.6 inches!!

Do you think it's better to get the dv7t QE with the 1600 x 900 resolution instead? The primary purpose of the laptop will be docked on my desk connected to an external monitor for 90% of it's life anyways...

    I just received this email:

    Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for your recent computer order. Due to an overwhelming response to our Envy 14 series and Radiance Technology we are unable to build your notebook as ordered. Unfortunately, the Radiance display is no longer being made by our supplier. As a result of this supply situation, we have had to cancel the notebook portion of your order. We regret this occurred and sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

If you ordered any peripheral products (printers, cameras, monitors, etc.) they have not been affected and most likely have already been shipped to you. You will be receiving an email confirmation of the cancellation. Your credit will be processed immediately and electronically transmitted to your bank and will reflect in 3-5 business days.

To compensate you for this cancellation, we are offering a $500 discount off the price of another Pavilion PC or Envy 14 priced at $1399 or higher (excluding the Envy 17) if you choose to reorder by February 4, 2011. We will also cover the cost of express shipping. To place a new notebook order, we have three options available to you:
    • Place a qualifying new order on our website ( www.hpshopping.com) and respond to this email with your order # (starts with H). If you have any questions you can chat with one of our agents at www.shopping.hp.com/shop/liveassistance. A credit at order shipment will be issued.
    • Respond to this email and request one of our specialists call you. Please provide a recommended day, time, and contact number.
    • Call our Sales Center at your convenience at 866-217-6014.
Our apologies that this issue occurred as we value your business. We hope to hear from you soon.

If you aren't moving it around, why not.

Personally, I am waiting for Feb. 20th when the more mainstream i5 SB processors are shipped and hoping someone else steps up, HP is now on my never buy list. Hopefully the Sony SA will be comparable and maybe the Samsung 9 series wont debut at $1,700 like its rumored to.

You will find wildly varying opinions about the quality of the BV display, ranging from it being one of the best 1366x768 displays on the market to it being an embarrassment. I would say that most people seem to be satisfied with it, but it's definitely one of those things where you need to see it with your own eyes and make your own decision about it and the relative value of the Radiance. My personal experience with it is that the brightness, contract and clarity are all poor compared not only with the Radiance, not only with other brands' 1366x768 displays, but with HP's own 1366x768 displays on non-Envy notebooks. For me, none of the offered upgrades fully make up for the Radiance display, but they do represent enough additional value that, when coupled with the Envy's other positive attributes, makes it an easy decision to stick with the Envy rather than going with another model or brand.

Totally agree with you. I made a lot of search and comparison from many sites and manufacturers. I can tell you that there is nothing which could beat the envy 14 because of the excellent balance of Envy 14.

Its only possible opponent may be the Macbook 15: excellent designed, excellent screen, excellent mobility, excellent battery life, but it lacks the most important parts: performance, graphic card, price.

I don't see any 14,5 inch laptops offering 1600x900 resolution. Other manufacturer 15,6 inch laptops even have the 1366x768 resolution, which is inacceptable. Then, 4+ hours battery, ATI 5650 cards is mid-range card, but for a 14,5 inch laptop, it is very nice enough. Moreover we can play most of recent games with medium/high details, that is really sweat. So envy 14 is already an excellent even we don't have the radiance screen. Yeah, I say that because mine is not canceled yet, haha(well, who knows some days after).

As far as I am concerned, I bought mine from a ebay HP reseller called computerupgrade on 14/01/2011. It seems that only orders after 14/01/2011 may be canceled. Don't see any orders before 15/01 canceled. My config is pretty common: i5 580M + radiance. No coupon applyed because HP reseller didn't want to do that.

For all those people who suffer from the cancellation, think with another point of view. Maybe it is good thing for you. Maybe HP will refresh envy 14 very soon with SB CPU, graphic card upgraded, radiance coming back. Who knows.

Sorry for my horrible english. I am French.

Oh Man, I went over to Dell's site to price out an XPS 15 and the 1080p display is nowhere to be found.

I guess these high resolution displays must be hard to come by.

Sigh, mine was canceled as well. What a bummer way to start a weekend, I was so pumped about this. Wanted to order one way back when the radiance displays were available the first time around but didn't have the money. I think I will wait for the new round of laptops sporting Sandy Bridge and hope someone else offers something comparable with an awesome screen.

I already ordered a case, sleeve, and extra RAM for it. :(

My buddy ordered on the 15th late in the afternoon, he got the bare minimum to qualify for the coupon ($1399).
His order has not been cancelled "yet", so it seems HP does not cancel depending on how much people paid.

My order is a bit more and has not been cancelled either (yet).

hmm ship date Jan 25th..thats just 3 days away, it seems it would be too late to cancel now, I would be pissed if they canceled it 3 days before shipment

chatted with an HP rep and she said radiance went out of stock before they stopped taking orders (maybe because some arrived defective?) so most earlier orders wont be canceled (wouldnt give me an exact date) but they are trying to keep some of the later orders also, so the cancellations are spaced out I guess, but if you ordered earlier (before the $500 coupon I assume) there is less chance of your order being canceled. I asked her if there are new configurations coming out soon and she said she doesnt know

EDIT: says in other forums that HP told them that all orders with the $500 off coupon+radiance display are being canceled..

Ordered on the 15th around 8pm with the Slickdeals config for $900 plus tax. They charged my card almost immediately, I paid my credit card bill, and today I get the cancellation notice without so much as an explanation. The customer service people have not been great, wanting me to buy $200 more hardware to get the same price. Needless to say I'm not happy and worse, people who ordered after me haven't been cancelled yet.

The reps are clueless. I just called and tried to explain the situation. I was repeatedly told my order is in production and that I have nothing to worry about. I kindly explained many others were in the same boat and had orders cancelled and I just wanted to start working this now if my order was on the cancellation list.

No luck. Basically I was told HP would compensate me if I got a cancellation notice. I placed my order around 8PM on the 15th like many others who were canceled. I suspect it is only a matter of time. If so, I will fight for a SSD drive replacement.

Good luck to anyone whose order has not been canceled!

I've read the thread up until now! I think you guys who got rejected after ordering this, need to find an attorney!!!! The lawyer can negotiate a really good deal for you guys, seriously. The 2 options you are getting sucks, so you need a great deal, I mean seriously great deal.... You should be getting laptop for close to nothing or even free ones! You ordered, some paid, so yeah, HP owes you....

I recommend you do not accept any of their deals! Ask to be given time to get back to them, and get a free consultation from a good attorney...!!!! Good luck guys. I think you can really benefit from HP's screw up. :p

You can also skip the lawyer and file yourself, here's a guide specifically on suing HP. I've used it before to great effect:

If you don't want to go that far, I at least reccomend you use the "email the ceo" function on HP, someone will definitely get back to you within about a business day.

Also, for everyone jumping on HP's offer to use the coupon on pricier build, why not just buy this unit from amazon? It's everything that really matters (radiance aside) for sub 900, with no tax for many and no waiting.

I just posted how people here need to get an attorney asap!!!! I think you gusy might even get free computers... no kidding...HP is in serious trouble. do not take no for an answer!!!! I know an attorney you thought my business class you went to buy a tv advertised in the paper, but due to some wording, or the numbers they said they had, or didnt' have...they had to give me a freebie!!!! He told them he was attorney... hahah, he knows the laws.

I don't think people should be trying to take advantage of the situation, we don't deserve free computers. What we DO deserve is the product we've already paid for.

The amazon deal is so-so. Take me for example - for $100 more, my HP order included 2 more GB of ram, an i5-560, and radiance. Keep in mind there's no tax to VA from amazon and I have prime, so all three of those things are worth way more than $100 in my opinion. I wonder if contacting the CEO would make it easier for all those who have been canceled to shave $200 off the price and call it even.
