Is anyone else considering returning/selling their envy 14 w/radiance IF they do get it? I'm seriously starting to think you could get a decent profit if you used the 500$ coupon, and people do seem to be pushing for the radiance. I'm honestly starting to wonder if 'pulling the trigger' was the right thing to do with HP...

I'm betting they'll be doing it separately, I think if they planned on doing a simultaneously they would've announced the 14 w/ the 17 at CES.

I wonder if the screen problem is what kept them from announcing a new 14.

I stand corrected. Kind of silly to put it under "colors" instead of "display", isn't it? :). It can be selected on a less expensive model too.

Can I feel safe since mines have been in production for a full week? I'm sure if it says in production they have all the necessary parts.

what about a Studio XPS 16. You would have to call Dell to order but the base price with an i5 450m, and ATi 5730, and a 1600x900 HD+ display is 1049.99. Someone check though because they were out of stock December.

For those interested, it looks like the Toshiba Tecra M11 has a 14" 1600x900 option. The price and design leave a bit to be desired though...

yep and its pricey. Toshiba doesnt seem to have anything with a dedicated video card that's below 15". It's disappointing considering Toshiba has one of the lowest failure rates.

    http://www.buy.com/prod/toshiba-tec...ghz/q/sellerid/2083092/loc/101/216018130.html

Thing that kills it for me is no HDMI. I want to use my laptop as an HTPC when traveling.

Here is a lower end one with good screen for $1000 same price as my former/undelivered envy was :(

the nvs 2100m is not a very good video card, it scores less than half of the 5650.

So I rather go for the U35JC with a g310m that only costs $750 at costco.

I'm very tempted by the Lenovo 460p.

    Spec wise +/-/o:
    + SB i7-2630QM
    + 8gb 1333 RAM
    + 750gb HD std (optional 32gb msata)
    + BR-R/DVD-RW option
    + Available msata port (w/o 32gb sata)
    + 4 USB (1 esata/usb)
    + 4.8lbs v 5.6lbs

    - intel wi-n 1000 wlan (vs 6200)
    - bluetooth 2.1+edr (v 3.0)
    - (likely) 5400rpm hdd (only a neg. if the 32gb ssd isn't opted for)
    - 1yr incl. warranty
    - single headphone port
    - no slice battery option
    - keyboard

    o dedicated volume/mute buttons
o slot loading v tray loading
    o 14.0 1366x768 led
o Lenovo lists an express card slot, but I only see it on the 15" (not often used anyway)
o physical mouse buttons v larger click pad (these two draw even, I don't like the click pads)

I really like the brushed aluminum lid (they say "finish" so it may be plasic :/). The keyboard isn't the popular (and for good reason) 'island' style chicklet keyboard. Actually the arrow keys are oddly flat, while the rest are standard. I like the look of the slot loading drives, but the tray loaders are so much easier to service. The wlan is easily, and cheaply upgraded to a 6200 adv. card for $30 on ebay. The slice is another niche option - nice, but not really needed for me. I like dedicated vol/mute buttons, but they do take more space away from the keyboard. The display is the same resolution, but smaller, so more dense. However, the 14.5" is also larger, and a great sweet-spot for me. It is also a more standard size, so is easily upgraded to a 900p display. You can opt for, or buy separately an msata ssd module that is easily accessible for a dual-drive protable! Unfortunately, msata only runs at sata1 speeds, and the current modules have a write speed of 70MBps v the Samsung's 200MBps.

    There are a ton of high-res close-ups of the y460p here: http://product.pcpop.com/000301150/OriginalPic/004224985.html

Thanks for putting me through this again HP. Oh, Lenovo has FAR better customer service and reliability.

Mine in still in production for Feb. 1.

I've called another CSR, and she has also assured me that my envy is not on the list for "cancellation" and that once it is "in production" it cannot be canceled.

I wish they would just let me know now. And start looking at other laptops.

One week has gone by since I ordred and I'm still there. If I survive another week, I should be golden.

One poster said that there is a list of 376 orders to be canceled. If that really is true, maybe they have made it through it now.

I haven't seen anyone post that they were canceled over the weekend. I am hoping, but certainly not holding my breath. I suspect more cancellations will start tomorrow, but only time will tell...

My sister placed her order early January 16th. Her credit card was charged and her system was in production. It was canceled.

I would think they'd try and get the cancellations out before the weekend but they could be waiting till monday since the weekend most people don't have work and have more time to call and complain. Only time will tell. The suspense is killing me.

For those confused, the upcoming Sony SA series looks really interesting. Lots of power in a 13 inch package with a slice-type battery addon. Of course, it's a Vaio so pricing may me annoying but it looks like it will be cheaper than the Z series.

Sony's are pricy but they make good computers. However some series are rather affordable but cannot match the deal you get with an Envy 14 & a fat coupon.

I wouldn't really care if the envy 14 got a SB i5/i7, but i would really care if the envy 14 got a better GPU such as the 6570 with ddr5, and im willing to pay more. I have a feeling that the radiance is going to be back on shortly since in personalize, it still says HP TrueVision HD Webcam and Dual Digital Integrated Microphones [For Radiance Display]

That's mosty likely due to an error on the store. But I do think the Radiance will be back someday. C'mon, is hard to believe that no other company in the world (read: China) makes those displays. Specially when they sell so well.

Ordered mine on the 17th and haven't been cancelled yet. I've got my fingers crossed. The only upcoming laptop that I was considering besides was the Samsung RC512. The specs and images for it finally popped up on Best Buy's web site today and I'm not impressed. Besides the Blu Ray player, and the SB i7-2630, it can't beat the Envy w/ Radiance, especially when you include that $500 coupon.

Wait, so what's peoples' beef with the Lenovo Y460P? It has a Sandy Bridge i7, 8 gig DDR3, 6550, 720 gig hdd, optical drive, bluetooth, not to mention it's from the second highest ranked laptop maker in the world (behind Apple) and you can get it for sub-1000 with a coupon. Oh, and it weights around 4.5 lbs.

Are we just ing about the screen res? Cause, to be honest, I'm gonna be tethered to my monitor anyway, and i don't need a 1080P screen on the go.

    Thoughts? Criticisms? Bueller?

    I don't understand, it's still lighter than a Envy 14.

I'm just beginning to wonder if we've all become a little obsessed with Radiance for no reason, does anyone honestly need this much resolution on a 14 inch?

Word. It makes a ton of sense to drop $200 on a 14 inch screen when you could buy a 24 inch 1080P monitor for less.

As I have a good desktop at home, I plan to use the envy 14 as a laptop. I'll carry it around and need the battery life.
So the radiance is a nice little perk to have. But I won't die if my order gets cancelled.

The y460p is lighter (not by much) because it's 0.5" smaller and it has a 6 cell battery.

I just checked out the Samsung RC512 at BestBuy.The display was not impressive at all. Not only the lower resolution, but it wasn't even bright and sharp. IMO, the Dell Inspiron R laptops were much brighter and sharper.

But, from what I read on another thread, it lacks the one thing only the Envy provides (in the PC realm): build quality. I like my laptop to feel sturdy, compact, I wanna carry it around without fear of breaking it. It's supposed to be mobile after all. Plus, it looks gorgeus :D

To my understanding, only the Vaio's have the same build quality, hence the price. Never had one, though...

I wouldn't say "for no reason", but I agree. Let's face it, 1366x768 is the industry standard for 14'', like it or not. The Radiance is gone (again) and suddenly the Envy is crap. It still shines compared to what other brands has to offer IMHO, considering almost everyone else offers the same res, but I already elaborated on this topic a few pages back and I don't wanna do it again :D
