I'm pretty sure the last thing kf_man needs is financial advice from some anonymous dude on the 'net.
Of course, unless it happens to you and you'd do the same thing. Don't bother saying you wouldn't, it's passé at this point.

I know it sucks to get cancelled but that's the luck of the draw (as it seems random).
As long as HP gives your money back in full, and they surely will , you have no ground for complaints with the BBB or in court. BBB will close the case as soon as they see your refund and courts will probably just dismiss it.
On top of that you even get a nice little perk, a $500 off coupon which nobody else can have (until the next one) -
After trying to get a $500 coupon code due to my order cancellation, I was shot down and they told me they had to process the order over the phone. This kills the deal as cash back websites has 5% cash back which is about $50+. If I place the order before hand and they adjust it, I will have to pay about $70 more in tax as I live in California. Screw HP!
-
They would not allow you to use the payment method you want ?
-
They wouldn't give you a coupon code so when you add to your cart it deducts $500 like the original one...
-
They give coupon codes on promo websites for everyone to grab, of course only when they are available.
In your case I am thinking it's not a coupon but a complimentary discount given as compensation for your canceled order. It can only be activated by a sales rep.
It would be silly to create a coupon code just for one user. Ordering over the phone is a bit slower but since you get $500 I don't see why not use it, especially if you want to buy something. -
Did you guys actually check your CC activity to see if you ever got charged? I never did and I ordered the 16th...
OMG this means they KNEW they had supply shortages AND they STILL let me order! Let's sue them over this too!
(where's the eyeroll smiley...) -
when you see how corporations are organised, a small mistake can create this kind of problems.
They have so many different services, sales, marketing, CR, IT, development, production, website, chain supply , etc... that *any* communication and logistics errors can create big messes.
Like reporting having more radiance screen than they actually ordered... -
Has anyone received additional cancellation letters today?
-
-
.
-
are they done w/ the cancellation list?
-
-
I ended up buying a refurb Envy 14 with the radiance display for 300 more than the new one I had canceled. Hope it looks nice. Sucks because I ordered on the 15th and still had mine canceled. Ohh well.
-
-
If I get cancelled, I may get a Lenovo or Asus (they seem to be the only makers that have similarly spec'd, sized and priced laptops, aside from the screen) -
If there's another round of cancellations, they're really cutting it close to the Feb. 1 projected ship date...
I would much rather just have them tell me now, if they're planing on canceling my order. -
-
I'm sorry to everyone who has been cancelled, this is definitely a fiasco but I don't think you need to contact the BBB. They're attempting to make things right by refunding and giving another $500 coupon, even if that's not adequate for most of us to continue to want the Envy 14. As someone else said, they'll see the refund and that they even offered a similar coupon and most likely won't file your claim.
I for one believe the new coupon should last more than a week and a half but they legitimately could offer no other compensation and there'd be no recourse for them.
It's just a bad situation all around for everyone who's been cancelled -
Configuring the dv6tqe to hit $1,399.99 is easy enough and you can get a sweet little notebook out of that!

Let me say it one more time, unequivocally, but still only IMO: The Envy 14 Radiance display is a once in a year or two feature that, in a world of me-toos with ever increasing electronic enhancements (which 90% of us don't need), distinguishes the E14/Radiance as an overwhelmingly best in class product vs. a "nicely done" notebook to compete with 75 others that are essentially its equal. It's not about resolution only, it's about brightness, contrast and amazing color gamut. Unless your use of a notebook is for text-only, there is no remotely comparable experience at this size class, except the SONY Z, which is nearly twice the price (more if you want more than 128 gig SSD) and has a 13" screen, which is arguably too small for this high res. Oh, yeah, then there are those ones made by the A-company. What do they know - about the importance of phenomenal screens - that the rest don't? Even at 1280X800, the MBP display blows the HP Brightview away; it's far more than the resolution. Of course, if you've never experienced a great laptop display, you are none the wiser. -
Was that little orgasm you just had therapeutic?
A laptop screen isn't going to change your life, dude. -
Im using the Brightview right now.. its not going to kill you.
-
-
What's going to happen to those who get the Rad Screen and there's a problem.... Dont think they will have extra to do warranty.
-
I'm guessing they order extra that are left aside in case they have to do any kind of warranty work.
-
I had the bright veiw and its like driving around in 2001 honda civic. It does was it was made to do no more no less. You don't look at it and say wow that is awesome. Many people are content with a regular screen like they are a regular car that gets them from point A to point B. Some of us like more than that. Its doesn't make us better or worse just different. When we buy something its going to be the best. I like looking at what i buy and being as happy as possible w/ that purchase. I like the experience to be the best possible or i'm left feeling like i'm missing something.
Thats the reason i sent my beats back the first hour i saw the "radiance is back" thread. Just like some people can't fathom a person buying a $50,000 mercedes that in principle will do the same thing a civic will, the bright veiw isn't enough for me. It left me feeling like my laptop had a flaw. -
Btw: For those putting their faith in the BBB, this is great viewing:

Not all tradeoffs are created equal. A screen for many is a thing worth trading up for, it is the thing you look at day after day for years on end. Having that look sharper, crisper, produce better more vibrant color with less distortion with viewing angles is a massive quality of usage improvement.
This is over and above the improvement from say, an i7 over an i5 for many tasks in terms of perceptual differences in performance in every day use.
This is not important to everybody, in fact most people are probably more concerned over price. But having the OPTION for those who demand a better screen is a no brainer, and this supply issue or whatever hp is having with better quality screens is a huge annoyance.
You have people lined up, happy and willing to pay hundreds of dollars more for the same laptop for a nicer screen option, and they can't seem to fix the issue so far.
It's like paying good money for a brand new bmw, but with bmw running low on the components of their suspension system that allows for a smooth ride, and only leaving the option for the suspension system designed for the ford pinto...
It's a mismatch, it needs to be fixed, this has been an issue for MONTHS now. I am sure it will be in time, but for now, the product is far less than it could be. -

I'm just sad that I can't find a reasonably sized laptop (14-15) with a screen better than my 4 year old lenovo thinkpad that I got through my college program. 1440x900 was a sweet spot and I couldn't stand looking at a laptop with less than my older product. Heck, the coupon was great but all I was really adding was extra features that were nice but not necessary to reach the 1399.99 level. I probably would've pounced if it was just 1199.99 without ANY coupons. (base + 200 radiance screen) I just can't wait for friggin new models to flood ebay at 1500+ each from resellers who got lucky enough not to have there's canceled.
I simply don't understand why there isn't a nicely built laptop that I can buy that isn't a mac and a has a nice screen. It doesn't make sense in my head. -

Anyone know what SSD is being used / if it's any good? -
-
Or you could just max it out. I was trying to get it for the cheapest using the coupon, discount and $500 refund.
-
-
Wait, so, they are still doing the $500 discount? What?
on top of a (new?) $300 discount..?
-
I have registered an account with HP, but I was unaware of the student discount. Can I use my brother's .edu email for the discount, without having to create a whole new account in his name? Also, it was my understanding that the student discount does not stack with the coupons, which is why I never bothered to make a student account.
Thanks. -
I am going to try to use it with my $500 off email. It says to email them your order number and "a credit at order shipment will be issued". So maybe it will work. Since its not really a discount. I think the order just has to be over $1399 after the other discounts
-
Use NBSAVE300C and yes it is working with student discounts! Its actually a sick deal. It sucks you wont have the envy 14 screen but you get i7 sb and for $400 off! especially if they let us use the cancelled order credit its $900 off lol.
-
Thanks!
Ok already posted... -
Now I am wondering if I should wait to see if another coupon comes up for then envy 14!
-
the only laptop that coupon doesnt work on is the hp envy 14

I'm still having a hard time deciding between the envy and the dv6 quad =/ they both have the lame screen, all the quads hardware is better, bleh idk.
-
I see it like this. quad = better hardware for cheaper Envy = looks better.
-
Pending their approval of the $500 coupon, This would cost me roughly $1150. Good deal?
