These laptop speakers have actually surprised me quite of bit with their range and bass. Better than most laptops speakers I've heard. I wish there was a on-screen volume indicator though.

Ok in contiuation to my previous post, I found out that age of empires does not support a buncha' vid cards, with the one I have being one of them.
Now if you go to microsoft KB and check the vid issues with aoe 3, they list pages and pages of video cards that will not be supported. What is this supposed to mean? Microsoft's playing a smartass again, looks like they only want to support nvidia cards.. anyway, guess i wasn't meant to play age of empires and so i will rubbish it off :)

So, a question on the DV6000 - On the inbuilt vid card machine, can we, at a later stage, put the nvidia vid card or the option has not been provided? Anyone any clue?

You can configure a DV6000 with the Nvidia card (go 7400)

waverider, are you sure that some agp or an equivalent slot is given on a motherboard that is not already configered for the nvidia on the dv6130's?

Mine is right now the intel inbuilt 128 MB shared vid card.

hi waverider, I meant after buying the dv6000 with inbuilt, can we put in the nvidia card at a later date and disable the onboard video?

I did not get the option in circuit city to get an nvidia configured dv6000 for that price, but i was wondering if that flexibility is offered.

Hi, just wanted to know if any dv/v6000 series owners can settle this question (I've heard 2 conflicting answers). Is it possible to get an HP laptop from this series where the frame surrounding the LCD screen has a matte finish?

According to a user on this board it is possible- if I get the standard imprint finish. When I spoke to the HP customer service rep, however, I was told that all current HP laptops have glossy frames surrounding the LCD screen, regardless of whether the actual screen is glossy or matte, or if standard or IMPRINT finish is chosen.

No you can't upgrade your card. i thought you ment before buying a DV6000. You can custom configure them before you buy them on line.

I LOVE this machine! Got it for Christmas (from my husband, but I ordered/configured myself. This is what I got:

    - HP Pavilion dv6000t CTO NB
    - FREE Upgrade to Genuine Windows XP Media Center!!
    - Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo processor T7200 (2.0 GHz)
    - FREE Upgrade to 15.4" WXGA BrightView Widescreen!!
    - 256MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7400
    - HP Imprint Finish + Microphone + Webcam
    - 2048MB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    - 120GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
    - FREE Upgrade: 8X DVD+/-R/RW w/Double Layer Support
    - Combo including DigitalMedia Deluxe & MyDVD Deluxe
    - Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network w/Bluetooth
    - No TV Tuner w/remote control
    - 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
    - Microsoft(R) Works/Money
    - Norton Internet Security(TM) 2007 - 15 Months
    - System Recovery DVD w/Windows XP Media Center

My only regret is that I didn't get the 12 cell (I may order separately). So far its quiet, runs cool, and is FAST--I do lots of photo editing and multi-tasking, and I'm very, very pleased. Also wish I had a bigger hard drive.

As for the bloatware...can I get into trouble if I just start removing the various programs?

This is my family's third laptop. We have a Dell (runs HOT and sluggish) a Qosimo GA25...(unbelievable machine, but a desktop replacement/media machine and NOT useful for me working due to a terrible keyboard and my husband and son are always playing games on it). Really, just love this machine and have had no problems yet!

Welcome to the club!! I got the same machine with almost the same configuration other then the fact I pushed for the 160gb drive and the 12 cell battery with a TV Tuner. Oh FYI the TV tuner is almost a useless appendage to this laptop unless you have it plugged into cable in the wall. I was hoping it would pick up off air stations in my travels , but with a moderate size wire antenna I picked like two local channels that were still fuzzy. So I think its one of those things I might never use. Until I figure out how to use the video inputs on the dongle to feed other sources in so maybe use it for capturing stuff but right now its a waste of $100. Otherwise this Laptop is real slick.
Do you guys notice that the fan tends to kick on and off when the machine is idle? I had it in the bedroom on over night and it was a bit noisy to keep in there during the night. Wonder if there is a setting to minimize fan noise .

    >>Welcome to the club!! I got the same machine with almost the same configuration other then the fact I pushed for the 160gb drive and the 12 cell battery with a TV Tuner.

Good choices on the 160gb and the 12 cell; I can get the 12 cell separately and I'll just have to store some of my media on my home machine.

    >>Oh FYI the TV tuner is almost a useless appendage to this laptop unless you have it plugged into cable in the wall...

I didn't get one because we did get one with the Qosimo, and it IS almost totally useless. I have a TV Tuner on my home computer with an over-the air antenna which only gets 3 channels well, but I DO use it to "tivo" a few shows that I watch that my fammily doesn't but I knew I didn't need the same on the dv6000t.

As far as the fan noise, I haven't noticed it yet I Do get some but it is less than both of my other laptops, so I'm happy.

your not going to get the dvd burner? if you don't have one you'll regret it later. might also want to consider the 12 cell battery since it adds almost double the battery time at just $39 more. if you can spring it get a bigger drive too since an 80 gig will be more like 65 gig once you factor in recovery partition and os files. other wise its a great set up.

i dont think i need a dvd burner.... i wont really use it....
and i dont need a 12 cell battery either, i know it only lasts like 2 hours with the 6 cell, but i wont be traveling with it too much, ill usually have it plugged in, and plus, the 12 cell adds weight to it, and makes it more bulky...
ill try to get more hard drive if i can... i only have $1115, so im not sure if i can, although there is a $50 rebate which im of course doin...
It comes out to be $1,116.95 - $50 rebate, so it is:
    $1,066.95
so i dont think i have enough dough to get more hard drive... :/
i noticed that the hard drive goes up by 20 gb increments, and goes up by $25 for each 20 gb, until it gets to 100 gb, it goes up by $50...
so i think this is the best deal i can get for my money...
i might be able to get bluetooth... do you think i need it?

    Thanks.

Hey everyone i just received my dv6000t...its beautiful. But i ordered an 80GB 5400RPM hard drive and it saids my total capacity is 61.7GB. I am pretty sure its cause all the crap it has on it, i am just wondering if everyone has this same problem? And if i delete all the crap would the capacity become 80?So far its great. The glossy screen is beautiful at home use. Also does every one here use limewire as their video and music downloads? thanks for ur time! :)

Hello, be free to email me to reply
I have been reading reviews about this laptop for over a month and i have decided to order it end of this month jan/2007
HOWEVER i still have a few concerns which maybe yall might be able to resolve as owners,
I live in the caribbean and investing in a $1600 US laptop is alot it actually equates to over $4000 EC (my currency) which does not include shipping and customs duties (they not friendly)

    MY POTENTIAL ORDER

Operating System Genuine Windows XP Media Center!!
    Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo processor T7200 (2.0 GHz)
    Display 15.4" WXGA BrightView Widescreen!!
    Graphics Card 256MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7400
Personalization HP Imprint Finish + Microphone + Webcam
    Memory 2048MB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
Hard Drive 80GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
Primary CD/DVD Drive Super Multi 8X DVD+/-R/RW w/Double Layer Support
    Networking Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network w/Bluetooth
TV & Entertainment Experience HP ExpressCard Analog TV Tuner w/remote control
Primary Battery 12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery

    1. I have read on some reviews that the bright view screen is not recommended for using the laptop in bright sunlight, because of the glare, i wanted to know if that was true and yall views on it, since we always have sunshine here.

    2. Hp does not recommend purchasing the tv card and the remote together. I am thinking of buying the tv card as i will want to watch televison at work, would u agree with HP and not buy the remote control if am already getting the tv card.

    3. Some reviews state that the laptop comes with a 5 in 1 media card reader which is not mentioned in the specifications. I was wondering if that card reader came with the Nvidia 7400 or is it only with the Intel GPU as HP indicates

    4. Does this laptop only come with 2 usb ports and NO firewire :( , ( i have already ordered a Dlink hub just in case)

    5. SOme reviews state that the beeping coming from the media buttons at the top of the keyboard can not be disabled, is that true or is there an update to fix such an issue

    6. What is the range and power of the laptops wifi capabilities and what version of bluetooth comes with it.

    7. How long does the 12 cell battery last on normal use.

So i just received my dv6000t and its sexy and great performance wise.
I am alittle disapointed that the junk ware takes almost 20GB of the hard drive..Does anyone know why watching DVD movies on the dv6000t not look clear as i hoped? Doesn't the geforce 7400 make watching movies very clear?
FIV the bright view screen is beautiful at home use. I have the 12 cell and i heard it lasts more than 4 to 6 hours depending on the task. Thanks 4 everyones time!

Ok I'll take a quick stab at these questions

    1. I have read on some reviews that the bright view screen is not recommended for using the laptop in bright sunlight, because of the glare, i wanted to know if that was true and yall views on it, since we always have sunshine here.
    Yes it has glare.

    2. Hp does not recommend purchasing the tv card and the remote together. I am thinking of buying the tv card as i will want to watch televison at work, would u agree with HP and not buy the remote control if am already getting the tv card.
The TV card is useless unless you have a a cable TV antenna to plug into

    3. Some reviews state that the laptop comes with a 5 in 1 media card reader which is not mentioned in the specifications. I was wondering if that card reader came with the Nvidia 7400 or is it only with the Intel GPU as HP indicates .

Card reader comes with Nvidia 7400 too.

    4. Does this laptop only come with 2 usb ports and NO firewire :( , ( i have already ordered a Dlink hub just in case)

Laptop comes with Three USB and one Firewire port if you get Nvidea 7400 even though it does not say this in specs.

    5. SOme reviews state that the beeping coming from the media buttons at the top of the keyboard can not be disabled, is that true or is there an update to fix such an issue

No easy way to disable beeping, but no big deal.

    6. What is the range and power of the laptops wifi capabilities and what version of bluetooth comes with it.

typical range for wireless G laptops

    7. How long does the 12 cell battery last on normal use.

    about 4-5 hrs.

    Hi FIV,

I dunno about the BIOS version you get, but from the BIOS I have, you can easily disable the beep sound of the media buttons, easy as that. But regardless of whether that BIOS is present in your machine or not, it's possible

For the glare on the screen, it's good to get it, coz it looks great and the colours really look stunning with the glare. Now, unless you plan to work on the laptop outdoors mostly, try and get the glare screen. (guess you really cant be outdoors much, what with the battery life)

I have an interesting case here that happened recently, although I am not sure what made it happen.
The video card is supporting resolutions of 1900*1400, as in I can set it at that resolution. The monitor does not support that much, but what happens is that it shows the screen at that resolution with only 1280*800 part visible.

The remaining part is seen if I drag the mouse below or left, as in it's more like a scrolling screen. I can scroll all over and see the entire 1900*1400 resolution (not in 1 go). I found this to be neat, but still I am unsure how it happened...Does anyone have any idea?

It's a DV6000 with intel inbuilt vid card (128 MBRAM)

Does anyone have a dv6000t without the annoying whine? Yes, I am aware of the fixes but this causes a drop in battery life. Is this a problem with many core 2 duo notebooks or just HP?

You would hear a whine when you processor is in an idle state. It sounds like a high pitched hiss sort of. It is extremely annoying and it doesn't sound anything like a fan.

I believe this is with the hp laptops. I can hear the noise on my dv6000t, but i use rightmark CPU clock to stop the noise. I had the same problem with my dv1010us,but I thought that was normal, but now I think it was the same noise as my dv6000t.

Thanks Gamermatt, though I was looking for some owner taken pictures, but it doesn't matter now - I managed to find one (albeit an older model, but same case) in a shop yesterday. It's beautiful! I love the volume control too.

    Ordering today. :)

man o man...this laptop i bought, (dv6000t) is AWESOME!%&PWNAGE!%& It looks so **** sexy and has great performance, i don't know what the high pitch sound is, i don't hear anything at all ? Anyway i HIGHLY RECOMMEND this laptop. I Certainly hate using this laptop to play counter strike.Banging or pushing alittle hard on this delicate keyboard pisses me off, it feels it would break anytime. Anyone recommend how to solve this problem?
(I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE 12 CELLLLLLL BATTERY!!!!!! THIS BATTERY LIFTS THE BACK OF THE LAPTOP BY MAYBE AN INCH,ALLOWING IT TO BREATH MUCH MORE EFFICIENT, ALSO DOUBLES THE BATTERY LIFE. O YEAH, IT ONLY COSTS 40 DOLLARS WHEN U BUY THE DV6000T) QUESTIONS?
Why are the movies on the dv6000t look blurry and not clear?
Why does the laptop look so sexy?
And finally why are all the technical support on the phone absolutly suk.. i mean the majority of them can't pronounce laptop...
THANKS 4 UR TIME!! PLEASE HELP!! I HOPE I HELPED ANYONE LOOKING TO PURCHASE THIS!

Support is just a treat. I had to call 6 times just to get them to replace a battery on my old Compaq Preserio. I almost was ready to have one of my Indian co-workers get on the phone with me and give those boys a run for there money over there in hopes that an Indian person can bring it home better then some gringo calling about his sappy problems.

yes this laptop rocks!! Only thing i don't like is the fan noise that turns on and off. Its such a treat when its not on and its silent (which only last so little).
Anyone have much luck with the express card TV tuner ? With out a cable signal (if you want off air reception) its slim pickins for performance . Also the windows media remote is a pain cause it requires and extra IR device to be plugged into your laptop. I'm ready to sell the TV stuff.

i decide to choose dv6000 but now still considering between AMD or Intel.
Whick one is making more heat, saving more power ?
about the battery life 6 cell or 12 ? 12 cell stick out a little behind the computer.
Anyone have some picture of dv6000 with 12 cell battery life.? i want to see how it looks with 12 cell battery.

i will be Dv6000 user. This laptop really really brilliant.

Sorry I've been away for awhile and still don't have a whole lot of time on my hands, when I do I will still get aroudn to the de-bloat guide.

Not just HPs have the whine lots of others do aswell, I posted a fix for it, but you'd hafta search for it.

Intel is much better than AMD, this also being the case in the dv6000notebook series.
