My first post with the dv6275us.

I liberated the new lappy from its box about an hour ago. Setup was so easy that when it was finished I asked, "Is that all?"

It looks as though I have the infamous SEC (Samsung) display. If this is a poor display, I would like to see the good ones. It is bright and the colors are rich. Of course, I am coming from a 4-year-old HP whose display has obviously seen its better days.

Nevertheless, my initial reaction is positive. Firefox is downloading and next my applications. Everything seems very quick and responsive. Other than the fact that the fact that the keys are a bit louder than I like, everything is good.

Even the glossy display, which does reflect light (in this case a glass door is behind me, looks really nice. It will take a bit to get used to, but I like it better than matte.

Speaking of the keyboard, I like the layout of the del, home, pg up, pg down, and end keys along the right side. This is preferable to me than my older HP at the top.

Hi Everyone, I just joined and here is my story and a few questions.

Three years ago next month I bought a Presario R3000t. It had a Mobile P4 3.0mhz chip, 512mb mem, 64meg Ati 9600pro videocard, 80gig HD and CD/DVD combo drive. Luckly I got the 3yr accident protection plan. I paid about $1700 for it.

Last month it was wrecked and sent for repairs. HP case manager called me back and said it could not be fixed and they would have to order me a brand new lappie. They wanted to send me a Presario V6000t with intel 950 intergrated graphics. Needless to say I argured with them for two weeks that I played games on my laptop and demanded something equal to my old Ati 9600pro.

I finally convinced them to order me an HP dv6000t with the Go7400. This is what I talked them into after 2 weeks of debate.

    – Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium
    – Intel(R) Core(TM) Duo T5600 (1.83 GHz/2MB L2Cache)
    – 15.4" WXGA Widescreen with BRIGHTVIEW (1280x800)
    – NVIDIA 256mb GeForce™ Go 7400
    – HP Imprint Finish + Microphone + Webcam
    – 2048MB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    – 120 GB SATA Hard Drive
    – LightScribe DVD/CD Burner
    – Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection, with BLUETOOTH
    - 6 Cell and 12 Cell Lithium Ion Batteries
    - Recovery disk for Vista Home Premium

It is due this week and I have a few questions please.

1 - Is the go7400 better or worse than my old 9600pro ?

    2 - How does the T5600 compare to the P4 3.0 ?

3 - I wanted to stay with XP home but got stuck with Vista. If I buy an XP Home restore disk from HP parts for a dv6000t can I RESTORE my new dv6000t to XP using my keycode from my old R3000t XP disk ? The dv6000t's they were shipping last month have the same hardware as this month except for Vista. Is this possible ????

The dv6000t looks like a nice laptop and I hope it works for me.

    Thanks

Talk about getting lucky. Nothuing like getting a brand new laptop almost free to replace a three year old junker. The dv6000t is a very nice lappy. Vista isn't so bad.
I can only answer one of your questions. Yes the Core Duo is going to be much better then a Pentium 4 chip due to the dual core. Almost like having two processors. Enjoy !

Wow! That's something akin to the notebook lottery. I can only say as waverider that your new processor (the same as I have on mine) will be faster than your old Pentium 4. Also, I like Vista Home Premium better than the XP Pro that I have on my old Pavilion. I've read all the Microsoft naysayers bashing Vista, but there's no way I would replace it with XP Home.

Any thoughts on the tuner yet, Bill? Sounds like you are enjoying the laptop, that't great.

I have the digital tv tuner and all I can say its a great improvement over the analog version. I was only able to pull in like three channels with the rabit ear on the analog with static and fading. With the digital tuner and the included mini antenna I'm pulling around seven local channels in pure HD digital bliss no static or fading. so in that regards digital is way to go. you just have to let it configure your local channels first and your set to go for ota hd.

Thanks, waverider, for answering Dave's question. I haven't gotten to the tuner yet. It's taking me a while to get all my necessary apps loaded and data transfered. I will say that I am growing in my fondness for the notebook.

There are some minor adjustments, such as the keyboard layout, but nothing major. I suspect a lot of disgruntlement ensues from a person's failure to realize that a little flexibility is required to use and appreciate a really good product.

This thing is fast and responsive, the BrightView display is great (the old SEC!), and Vista Home Premium (much to the chagrin of Microsoft bashers) is really good, better IMO than XP.

    No doubt--it's a keeper.

Is anyone else having issues where on a black scren the LCD looks too backlit. The blacks are kinda gray specially when viewing from top angle. I thought its the contrast but I can't find adjutment for that in Vista / Nvideia screen

Isn't that just the way a display washes out when viewed from a top angle, or am I missing what you are saying? For instance, when I look at the navy strip at the top of the display where the page information and such are located, it is deep dark when viewed straight on but turns a lighter blue if I tilt the screen towards me or if I view it from a "taller" position.

My "blacks" turn "gray" if I tilt the screen towards me, but I think that's normal.

Welcome to the wonderful world of LCD technology. One of the disadvantages is that it is impossible for an LCD to produce a true black because the backlight is always on. Some are better than others, but a black screen will always look some shade of gray. Viewing angles accentuate this on some displays, especially the HPs.

I do not play games, but you will probably want to replace on of the 512MB RAM modules with a 1GB. I think it will help your performance. Hope you get it soon and enjoy it.

Well guys, I am going to return this laptop for the 9000. I really need to get the best video card available... I do alot of video editing and some gaming, and I am able to get a 512MB Nvidia 7600 card with a slower processor, but same ram for the same price I bought this. I think that Vista is going to be alot better with the extra video memory, too. I am so grateful to Costco for letting me buy a laptop and really have no worries at all. I think this is the right decision. i hope

    hey all,
I am debating between the hp dv 6000t and hp dv 2000t. I would like to play games like HL 2 or doom 3 on med settings w/o a problem. I am also a little concerned about the size difference. I am a student so is there a big discrepency between the 2000 and 6000 size and weight? The 6000 has a better graphics card but If I will be able to play doom 3 or HL2 w/o a problem on the 2000 with a nvidia 7200, I would rather have that since it is smaller.
    Thanks

I have just played Doom 3 and HL2 on my hp dv6000t with a go7400, on medium settings without a problem.

If you are going to be bringing it to school everyday, then just get the 2000. You will be much happier! ;)

Are all of the driver issues I have been reading about prevalent on all Vista models of the dv6000t or just with people who upgraded and then had driver problems. Everything working properly for people with Vista on their machine right out of the box?

There isn't much control over color options and contrast with the current Vista drivers for the Go 7400. This is on a Vista Pre-Installed Lappie

    Just bough one:
    - Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium
    - Intel(R) Core(TM) Duo T2250 (1.73 GHz/2MB L2Cache)
    - 15.4" WXGA Widescreen (1280x800)
    - 256MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7400
    - HP Imprint Finish + Microphone + Webcam
    - 1024MB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    - FREE Upgrade from 60GB 5400RPM to 80GB 5400RPM!!
    - FREE Upgrade: 8X DVD+/-R/RW w/Double Layer Support
    - Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection
    - No TV Tuner w/remote control
    - 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
    - Microsoft(R) Works 8.0

core duo, not core 2duo, no need for 64bit program. Like matte screen for eye protection

go 7400 is too good for me since I am no gamer. But intel GMA is too bad. Wish HP provided some like go7200 or go7300.

Anyone has idea about the data transfer from desktop to laptop? by USB port or very slow serial port?

Vista has something incorporated called "Easy Transfer" or something like that to transfer apps and files from the older XP computer to Vista. Unfortunately, you have to buy a particular USB cable made for the task. Belkin sells one by that name. Because it sells for about $40 and would be a one-time use for me, I simply reinstalled my old apps and am transferring files using my iPod as an external drive and a flash drive.

There is probably a better way, but this works.

This item would be useful if it actually and trully transfered installed apps. Sometimes we loose the install disks or product keys to stuff installed on a PC over time. If this thing actually copied over programs with all their settings that would be great but I do not think it will do that correcly. Am I correct here?

Unfortunately, I think you are correct. It looks as though it is everything but apps:

You can transfer most files and program settings. Specifically:

Files and folders. Everything within the Documents, Pictures, and Shared Documents folders. Using advanced options, you can select additional files and folders to transfer.

E‑mail settings, contacts, and messages. Messages, account settings, and address books from Microsoft Outlook Express, Outlook, Windows Mail, and other e‑mail programs.

Program settings. Settings that keep your programs configured as you had them on your old computer. You must first install the programs on your new computer, because Windows Easy Transfer does not transfer the programs themselves. Some programs might not work on this version of Windows, including security programs, antivirus programs, firewall programs (your new computer should already have a firewall running to help ensure safety during the transfer), and programs with software drivers.

User accounts and settings. Color schemes, desktop backgrounds, network connections, screen savers, fonts, Start menu options, taskbar options, folders, specific files, network printers and drives, and accessibility options.

Internet settings and favorites. Internet connection settings, favorites, and cookies.

Music. Electronic music files, playlists, and album art.

Pictures and video. Pictures—which includes any visual file type (for example, .jpg, .bmp, .gif)—and personal videos.

I have 2 questions for you computer tech savvy ppl.
    1. I have a Hp Dv6244us and I have a Cannon PIXIUM mp160 Printer and I was just wondering if it is possible to make the printer wireless to the laptop because I don't want to buy a USB 2.0 cable for this printer if its not needed. The printer needs to have this in order for me to print from my laptop. If there's a way to make it wireless please tell me.
    2. I want to get a Lock for my computer that is not too expensive and it can go right into the slot for the lock that is built into the computer. i am getting this computer today at circuitcity. ok if you have an answer that would be great

    1) You would need to buy a usb wireless print server like these for example http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=371 and then it should work but no guarantees as some printers just don't like being networked (most are fine)

    2) I've looked all over my dv6000t for a kensington lock slot and can't find one anywhere. Are you sure your new laptop even has a lock slot?

I am debating between the hp dv 6000t and hp dv 6000z.

I'm trying to stay below $1000, so I will buy at a store like Circuit City or Best Buy (where they have weekly sales and rebates) or at Costco (where the 6000z, a Turionx2, will be $899 next week with 2 GB Ram). Buying at these stores limits me to onboard graphics, but I don't play games.

Circuit City has my perfect configuration now for $1199, so I'll probably have to sacrifice something. (I understand that the Core 2 Duo is better than the Turionx2 but costs $100-200 more. And increasing RAM to 2 GB later will cost $200.)

I have read many noise complaints about the Intel models and heat complaints about the AMDs. Is that true? or just a coincidence and both have both problems?

I have a dv6275us which has the Intel processor. I hear a soft high-pitched noise at times but I think nothing of it. It certainly doesn't bother me, and I'm pretty picky.

If keeping your purchase below $1000 is an absolute must (and I admire folks who think about budgets in our credit-happy culture), I would go with the best configuration I could with the AMD Turion x2 processor. The memory-sharing graphics card is reputed better than the Intel 950, and I've read posters who had not noticed a heat problem.

I suggest that you buy the HP with the AMD Turion x2 that you said Costco will sell next week for $899. If it has 2GB RAM and a sufficient-sized hard drive, that's a great price. What's the rest of the configuration? The reason I suggest Costco is that they have the most generous return policy I've read about--6 months to return for whatever reason. Try it out for a few weeks and see if the heat is an issue.

    Hope you the best.

I'm planning to get it, too. I'm slightly disappointed that I couldn't get Bluetooth with it, but I'm quite sure that if I wanted to, I could order the module from HP parts ($65), or deal with an USB dongle.

I wouldn't worry about the lack of Bluetooth. You can easily add its capabilities if you need it. Like I said, that's a great price. I would have waited a couple of weeks and bought the dv6253cl had I known about it. Get it and enjoy it. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

i think i'll go with the charcoal mouse, cause i've seen these in store and they're quiet comfortable even for my slightly big hands

that bluetooth headset from logitech, though, do i have to use the dongle? or can i use it w/o and let it sync with my onboard BT module? thanks!

btw my backpack came in today....its sexy as hell but its missing something...

    A LAPTOP inside :p

*edit* can someone supply a picture of the lock port? i cant find it on any pictures online....

    Free Shipping:
Mine shipped Friday 2-23-07 from Shanghai and arrived today Monday 2-26-07 in Nebraska, Wow, that is one business day from China! I used the free shipping. I missed the delivery guy though and I am on my way to fed-ex to pick it up.

I'm not sure. It may be okay, but I would probably replace one of the 512MB RAM modules with a 1GB module.

yeah i'm planning on upgrading the ram later. But in terms of the processor alone, with sufficient ram it should be fast it enough right?

I picked mine up last night and was playing with it until after midnight, some thoughts:

This is big! I am so glad that I did not get the 17in I was considering, I would have never traveled with it. I am flying Thursday and will find out, but this looks like a bit of a challenge to get under some airline seats. I know the specs clearly list the dimensions but this sure feels bigger than it sounded. It is an impressive piece.

The screen is great, I have not checked the manufacturer yet but there aren't any dead pixels that I could see. I turned the brightness way down to make it more comfortable is a slightly dark living room.

The high pitched wine is annoying, but not a deal breaker. It is only apparent in a quiet room.

The TV tuner is great. I am just learning how it all works but I enjoyed watching “Dirty Jobs” last night and recording some. It is a Digital/Analog tuner.

The little remote that comes with it is great for multimedia playback, it is a joy to use.

Overall fit and finish rivals any piece of computer hardware I have owned. The cover is a beautiful fingerprint magnet, it must be a known issue as it comes with a special HP fingerprint wiping cloth!

Vista set-up was a piece of cake although fully utilizing nearly any piece of software requires a broadband internet connection for updates and registration codes. The only disappointment is that Vista rated my graphics set-up a 3.3 this is the best you can score with this model as the 7400 card is the best option. Everything else was rated higher, the processor was a 4.8!

    - Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium
    - Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo T5600(1.83GHz/2MB L2Cache)
    - 15.4" WXGA BrightView Widescreen (1280x800)
    - 256MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7400
    - HP Imprint Finish + Microphone + Webcam
    - 1024MB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    - 80GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
    - FREE Upgrade: 8X DVD+/-R/RW w/Double Layer Support
    - Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network w/Bluetooth
    - HP Expresscard TV Tuner for Windows Vista Notebook
    - One 6 Cell and One 12 Cell Lithium Ion Batteries
    - Microsoft(R) Works 8.0

    Overall, I love it

Any thoughts on fully utilizing Aero? Is there any value or just fluff? I am tempted to turn all the Aero options off to speed up performance.

    Thanks
    Matt

Hi all, i have been lurking around 4 months and finally decided 2 join a few days ago. I have been in the market 4 a new notebook, and I finally decided on the HP dv6000t 15.4"W T5600 1.83GHz 2GB DDR2 160GB HDD from Costco. I have heard nothing but great things about this baby and the reviews here helped me in making my decision. I just have one thing that I would like 2 know, i keep hearing about the notebook not having a latch, so my question is how does it close? and when it's close does it stay that way or does it pop back open again? I intend on carrying it around with me alot and I really don't want 2 worry about it opening while in my bag. Hopefully you guys can answer my questions and put my feelings at ease, I really want this notebook. Thank u all in advance.
