tk19, I ordered my 6226 and paid in full. They said I would have it before the end of the week. I will keep you posted.

HI guys, so i just got my dv6238ea and I love it but I'm having one little problem that is spoiling the party. I can't get my stupid conexant built in microphone to work... which is a shame as it's one of the reasons I bought the laptop!! it does work a little however with lots of static and interferance which makes it useless!!
So I have been searching all over for a driver that works but nothing seems to. I have spoken to HP and they have simply asked me to send it to them to be fixed (which I dont want to do because I just bought it and they are saying 8-10 days to return it!!).
i just wanted to know if others are having this problem with the microphone? my flatmate has the dv2228 and it seems to work for her. but i tried her drivers but it wont let me install them. i'm pretty sure it's not a hardware fault because i used the quickplay thing to record a video and it appears to work but with a bit of lag (but the sound is pretty good).
So i guess the question is do I send it to HP for fixing or are they just going to send it back to me and it'll have the same problme
Thanks
Alan
Ps. I'm on Vista Home Premium with a fresh install and on version 4.15.0.50 of the conexany high def audio driver. -
try to find a driver here:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3366718&lang=en&
You might also, if that doesn't work, try other dv6000 models that are close in numbering. Those drivers tend to be same or similar.
Might also be some changeable setting - try poking around in Control Panel's sound and audio devices options. -
Got it, love it
For those who find the touchpad to be too glidy and not responsive enough (because of the gloss) I highly suggest cranking up the sensativity. I did so and now it works really well. -
Disappointed at not getting the 6226, I did some more research and found that the 6205 is the same except (1) 512 MB instead of 1 GB of RAM (2) 80 GB Hard drive instead of 120 GB. As we've heard, 512 isn't enough for Vista. In the current Circuit City circular, it says that you can double the RAM from 512 to 1 for $70. So.. the HD size isn't a huge deal for me, so I can still get a 1GB RAM 6205 for $560 + $70, not a bad deal. -
I also saw the 6205 is only $540 at CompUSA, but not sure how much it would cost to upgrade the memory. -
I can't find the exact thread where a member recommended this bag for the dv6000t...does anyone know if it would accomodate it with the 12-cell battery pack?
-
I bought a medium Pinder bag for my dv6000. 12 cell battery fits fine in it.

Hi Dmbmarkt,
I am having the exact same problem with the HP Total Care Advisor. Blank screen on startup and "error has occured" on the PC Action Center tab. Mine is a Compaq v6210us. I noticed this problem occured about the same time that my Flash Player stopped working. Now, each time I visit a site with Flash Player features, I am asked if I want to allow a process which I assume is Flash Player. I allow it, but it asks me again the next time I visit the page. I attempted to resolve, but have not found any solutions that work for me. I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but they both happened on the same day. Prior to that, I uninstalled the Office 2007 trial vsn and installed Office 2000 Prof (without Outlook).
Does any of this sound familiar to you? I thought maybe if you had a similar configuration, we could figure it out.
If you have solved your issue, could you send me a note and let me know how you fixed it?
Thanks,
Jim -
Hey dmbmarkt, I corrected my problem(s)!!!
I was attempting to correct my Adobe Flash Player issue, when I noticed that had several Java versions enabled in my IE 7 add-ons. I disabled all 3 of the 1.6 vsns, then went to http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp to make sure I had the latest version of Java. I used the top link to download the latest windows version. Oddly enough, it now says that I have version 1.5.0_11. After that, I went to adobe.com and downloaded the Flash Player and this time it worked. After that, I went to the HP Total Care Advisor and it came up immediately. Problem solved. I'm not sure if I really needed to disable the 3 java's in the IE add-ons, but I did it anyway. We'll see what else it affected by doing this, but so far - so good. -
Has anyone removed the Yahoo search box from the taskbar? I didn't see a way to do it.

I was wondering, when you guys load up your computer, does your hard drive still spin for awhile, maybe like a good minute, before it stops blinking? im running vista premium. it seems like it takes forever for crap to load, but it isn't loading anything, the lights and the hard drive just spins..jus a curious observation. is everyone else's computer like this, or is this just how vista works?
-
i also only have hp stuff and drivers load from settings in msconfig, and thats about it besides stickies.

Hey, I have a custom ordered pavillion DV6000t which ive had for a few months now, which it is a great laptop. I only ordered 512 of ram and now I want to get 1.5 gb of ram. I am going to get 1 gb of it, and was wondering what ram you guys have upgraded to and waht works the best. I know that the memory is 2-256 mbs of hynix DDR2 SDRAM DDR2-667 5-5-5 PC5300. Will this work fine? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145012I will be taking out 1-256mb stick and replacing it with the 1gb stick to make it 1.5 gbs of ram. Thanks.
-
Bill -
oh yeah, it should be sufficient though right? Would the extra ram help much?
-
You should see quite a difference adding a GB. However, my understanding is that the Core 2 Duo works most efficiently with paired RAM modules. If you can afford it, I would replace the 512MB with 2GB Dual Channel Kit: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145157.

Hey guys, just opened mine up! What all do i need to do as far as removing the bloatware(which programs) and basically optimising it?
-
yeah please list some bloatware that is not needed, does anyone know if NVIDIA MEDIA CENTER, HP HEALTH CHECK SCHEDULER, and HP CONNECTIONS are needed at startup? My computer's hard drive spins for a long time before becoming idle on startup, and so many people seem to be ignoring my one question. Thanks.

I tried to pick up my dv6226us at circuit city today and they said that it wasnt coming in. I had a talk with the manager and he offered me a dv6324us for the same price. I was wondering what you thought about AMD? and is this a good deal for $700.00? I will be using this computer for basic home computing. I just dont know the difference between AMD and Intel.
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Cust...sm/oid/175652/rpem/ccd/productDetailReview.do
Thanks for your help. -
I would get the dv63234us. The AMD processor is fine and I would prefer the AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-50 in it than the Intel Dual Core T2060 in the dv6226us.
Bill -
i wouldn't get amd. they are not so good for battery life, and if you do read other articles, intel 2 core owns the sh*t out of the amd mobile processors. they are good for desktops, but id stay away for laptops imo.
-
), battery life with AMD is a bit better than with Intel. Besides, who is getting decent battery life with an Intel processor in an HP notebook. I'm not, but I rarely have to use a battery anyway.
As far as AMD not making good notebook chips, I've plenty of reviews to the contrary. Also, I'm still running a four-year-old HP Pavilion notebook with an AMD processor.
In addition, the dv6324us has the NVIDIA GeForce go 6150 graphics processor, a much better GPU than the Intel 950 that comes in the dv6226us.
Neither of the notebooks are gaming notebooks. They will both do applications which most people use computers for. For my money, the dv6324us is the better buy.
Best,
Bill -
Thank you so much for your reply, Im going crazy trying to figure out what to buy. I dont know enough about this to make this decision on my own (a little bit of knowledge can get you in trouble). Because the manager from Circuit City is trying to work with me I am looking at what they offer at the store. I really like th HP but I found a couple of Toshiba models that I think he might give me the same deal on. What do you think of these?
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Spec...5/rpem/ccd/productDetailSpecification.do#tabs
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Spec...3/rpem/ccd/productDetailSpecification.do#tabs
I still like the HP, but if the Toshiba is better because of the core 2 duo I will go that way. The HP that I am looking at is the DV6324us. I am not sure what graphics chip the Toshiba has. I cant find the A205 on there web sight.
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Spec...2/rpem/ccd/productDetailSpecification.do#tabs
Thanks again for your help, I really value all of your opinions. -
well Core 2 Duos are superior to AMD's, but HP's build quality is better than the Toshibas. Its up to you I guess. An HP with a core 2 would be the best option.
-
From my research, the HP is a better built computer than the Toshiba. That's one of the reasons I chose to replace my old HP with another a couple of months ago. Of the choices you've put forth, I would still go with the dv6324us. Lots of folks posting on NBR have bought HP's with AMD chips and like them. I seriously doubt you will see any difference whatsoever between an Intel or an AMD processor in real world applications. Unless you're getting into intensive gaming apps, I doubt there's a dime's worth of difference between the two processor brands rated at the same speeds.
One little point--a feature which the HP will have that the Toshiba doesn't is the ability to turn off the mouse pad with the pressing of a button. That comes in handy if you're doing a lot of typing and don't want the cursor to jump to another place due to a careless thumb!
It's good to research a major purchase, but don't analyze it to death. I think the CC manager is making a really good offer on the dv6324us. I would jump on it.
Best,
Bill -
Thanks again for all of your help, I was thinking that I like the HP also. You just helped me make up my mind and am more comfortable with this decision. I hope to get it today and my next post will be on my new laptop.
-
Glad to hear it. Let us know what you think about it after you get it up and running.
Bill -
From benchmarks and testing from many sites, you can bet there IS a difference with Amd and Intel 2 core duo. Here is an example, one site from many sites out there claiming Intel 2 won the battle in the laptop industry for performance, but amd did WIN in PRICING.
http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2006/07/27/core_2_duo_vs_athlon_64_fx-62/page3.html -
And by all means, I am no Amd-hater, my desktop pc is packed with a Amd 64 3700, and by far, it runs a lot nicer in gaming compared to my other 1.6 HTT pentium 4 chip.
-
I agree that benchmark tests show the Intel C2D faster than the AMD Turion X2 Duo. My point, though, given the options the HELP is looking at, he's not going to see any real difference. Don't you agree that the NVIDIA GPU in the dv6324us at the least offsets any advantage of the Intel C2D processor in the dv6226us with the Intel 950 GPU?
You and I cannot be too far apart in our thinking---we both have the same HP!

The dv6338se is a good deal?
-
@Help
Benchmark test results are nice, but I agree totally with Broadus that in real-world applications they are not 100% accurate for predicting performance differences. Comparing products between the two major brands (i.e Intel/AMD, ATI/NVidia, etc.) always results in a pretty fair distribution, since if one was REALLY that much better, the other would be forced to lower prices for higher-end products to make competitive performance/price ratios, or risk losing a lot of business. It really comes to personal preference and availability more than anything else, and any difference pales in comparison to the performance gains from dedicated video, more RAM, and a faster HDD spindle.
@rockshox
Vista's new SuperFetch feature, coupled with the new ram-dump-to-HDD shutdown procedure, result in the computer loading a great deal of HDD data into RAM when the computer is started up. This is the activity you see; the time can be lessened by getting a faster spindle speed HDD or by using a ReadyBoost device (as long as you leave the device in).
@microphone questions
The built in microphones are not of very good quality and have noticeably low sensitivity; I highly recommend buying a cheap microphone or headset to replace them if you want good audio-in. They work fine for most applications if you position yourself close enough, but this is usually uncomfortable and impractical. -

Hey guys! So is there any help to exactly which bloatware to remove and stuff? also, i notice my computer is running at around 20-30% of RAM when it is at idle, is this normal?
Basically, PLEASE help me optimize this thing! lol -

i guess your are right broadus when you want to compare it that way, i guess in the end, it is about personal preference
@Ci-Daemon, thanks for the answer, ive been waiting for one for a long time
On another subject, has anyone been using rightmark cpu clock utility. I noticed that my hard drive, or cpu has been making clicking sounds when it is on idle every 45-55 seconds. So i checked on the RIGHTMARK Cpu clock utility and this is what i found out the computer has been doing. This laptop has jus been 13 days old, and I don't recall hearing sounds like this the first couple of days...
everytime the clicking happens, the cpu throttle seems to spike.
I know this might be too technical, but i guess it doesn't hurt to ask you guys anyways if you guys have any idea what this could be doing. Thanks. -
If you are doing basic tasks, if will do well. The only downside is that it has only 1GB RAM. 2GB RAM is optimal for Vista Home Premium, but I've seen 1GB do well enough.
Bill -
in fact, if you're getting only 20% of RAM running, that's better than mine and i'm wondering what your secret is! lol! -
When I look in task managers resource monitor, at idle after start up with the wireless connected I am @ 0 to 2% CPU usage and 525MB of memory usage.
