it wont be a surprise santa rosa would be pretty expensive on release, it depends on when you want a laptop, like they say, you can never really be caught up with technology and computers.

I guess your right it will be more expensive, how much I wonder..$50? or $150which is too much for me since I went with the most I can afford. Still it is annoying since it coming out next month and I can wait, so already I will be outdated!!! I wonder what the core 2 duo cost when it came out compared to the plain duo core.
Also wondering if I would have been better off with a 12 cell battery instead of the extended 6 cell. Does notebook not lie flat with the 12? I would like about 3-4 hrs without the plug.

In use the keyboard will appear sloped with a 12-cell.

Changes are usually incremental. I doubt there will be that much of an improvement by Santa Rosa over C2D.

If you want 3-4 hrs away from an outlet, you will have to go with the 12-cell battery. It makes the notebook sit up at an angle which makes for a nice typing position.

    Best,
    Bill

Does anyone know what the max CD write speed is on the lightscribe Super Multi 8X DVD/R(W) drive that's built into the retail store models of dv6000ts?

I'm wondering because I burned an iso on Roxio Basic, and it only went up to 10x writing the CD, which seemed... well... slow. Did they compromise on CD Write speed to get both CD and DVD writing abilities built in??

once again, it all depends if you want to buy new top of the line stuff, or soon to be out of date laptops that are usually at its cheapest in april. Its all price and personal preference in the end imo.

I just run the crap out of the units as is, but for disabling some of the startup programs.
Durring the 30 day trial period, I don't register any of the trial programs (Especially Norton) or put any personal information in like email accounts or do any bill paying. I use them like its a rental car, and if she runs and sounds OK right before my return period is up I am good to go. Don't forget to burn a few DVD and CD's.
I have made mistakes in the past years loading a new pc up with my programs, settings, personal info and accounts only to find somthing later as a cause for returning it. If there is somthing the machine is required to run to qualify for me keeping it I load it but that's it.
I let my 9 yearold have at it on this one and she is good to go. Speech Over. :chatterbox:

the battery, i have found so far, is horrible. it discharges very fast if left unplugged for any period of time. I left it in my car(cold outside) fully charged and shut down for about 5-7 hours yesterday then started 'er up and i only had 33% battery left.

Ive read throught most of this, but was wondering if anyone was still experiencing the high pitch whining noise. I ordred my DV6000t with the following specs, and when I turned it on the whining noise began immediately. I lasted a week, but couldnt take it so called HP. They are sending me a new one, so hopefully this will solve the problem. Has anyone got one of these without the whining noise?

    - Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium
    - Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo T7200 (2.0GHz/4MB L2Cache)
    - 15.4" WXGA BrightView Widescreen (1280x800)
    - 256MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7400
    - HP Imprint Finish + Microphone
    - 2GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    - 120GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
    - LightScribe Super Multi 8X DVD+/-RW w/Double Layer
    - Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection
    - No TV Tuner w/remote control
    - 12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
    - Microsoft(R) Office Home and Student 2007

all u need is a program that takes care of that...im pretty sure the new ones you get will have it too. This is known to be a intel 2 core duo matter. My friend has a dv9000t and his does it too...go to page 110 of this forum to get the program.. Once you follow the instructions, the whine is gone.

gma950 is integrated, it should only be used if you dont plan on gaming, photoshop, etc. persnally id get the geforce go 7400, as a gamer myself, it is not bad as a graphics card getting around 60fps in counterstrike source. With the Intel gma 950, good luck getting 10.

    http://www.notebookcheck.com/NVIDIA-GeForce-Go-7200.1701.0.html

heres a chart of the differences..
look at just how bad intel gma is compared to dedicated cards.

Don't scrimp on the video card. If you get an integrated card you loose the flash card reader and the Gigabit WAN port. Maybe more.

I can't believe that people are still asking about the whine....? It's been answered how many times in this forum?

    1: Update bios
this should fix it, if for some reason it doesn't
    2: Clock utility
This will fix it definitely, but you shouldn't even need it with Bios update 16

Even so, the whine can only be heard when in a very quiet room, and usually is ignorable unless you're listening for it.

im running firefox 2.0 on vista, and i have no problems with it, except sometimes when you open a hyperlink on another program, IE7 will pop up even if you had set your default browser as firefox. this is because its BIG BILL'S way of forcing its people to use its own microsoft programs. This only happens with me on AIM and windows messenger when you click on a hyperlink.

Finally ordered my DV6000t tonight to replace a dying emachines M6807 (it's been a great three years little buddy!), but I have a couple of quick questions:

I only ordered with 1GB ram, but I'm assuming both memory slots are user accessible? Figure in the future, I can grab a couple of 1gb for the same price (or less) than HP charges and upgrade the fiances laptop with one of my old 512s...

Also, until then, I'd like to disable the shared video memory since I ordered with the GeForce 7400 and it already has 128mb of memory. Is this possible? Or does Aero benefit more from the extra (albiet shared) video memory vs system memory?

The memory is easily accessible. I wouldn't mess with the shared video memory, even if you can. At least you don't have the Intel 950 GPU accessing all 256MB of precious RAM.

I called HP just now. :( They won't let me modify my order and it'll take 3 business days for the money to hit my card again, so I guess I'm not cancelling. Oh well, I could have upgraded to the T7200 for about the same price. :(

    hi all

my newly purchased-vista based 6000t gets usually hot, and it is annoying typing while part of your hand is resting on the hot surface, i was thinking of returning the laptop because of that problem, but everything else in the laptop is perfect but this one issue

anybody knows of any solution? like something in the market to put on the surface for example just to shield the my hand from the warm surface?

    thnx in advance

Mine get a little warm on the left side but I wouldn't call it hot. Can you hear the fan running? You should feel heat coming out the left underside too.

The problem was my earlier order was through APP and this coupon will not work with a APP login. I had to do it freshly and it worked. I am returning my dv6000t as HP said it is not possible to refund me the 200$ and ordering a new one. Funny thing is HP reps cant get the coupon to work with or without APP.
