Thanks Evancg for the coupon code. I used it last night and my order is cheaper than ordering from Costco.com. Costco has 3 months for return and extends the warranty to 2 years but it costs $170 more. I have to make sure my laptop trouble-free for the first year. I had a HP ZV6000 for more than 2 years already and it's still running like a rock. If I have to ship my laptop to HP for repair during the first year, do I have to pay for the shipping fee? Does it worth to pay for extended warranty from HP? From my experience with my own desktops and laptops (at work or at home), if it works without any problem in 1 year, it will work till you want to throw it to the trash can. I still have a Compaq 2100 laptop that my wife bought it 10 years ago. It has K6 AMD CPU and 64M RAM. It's still running with Windows ME and surfing the net thru wireless USB.

Hello.
I Finally bought the dv6000t.
How can I Install the windows from beginning(from the recovery partition).
I made some mistake on the first installation.
thanks. -
I'm expecting my dv6000t to arrive any day now and I have a few questions...
* How does the high-capacity 6 cell battery (which I ordered) compare to the standard 6 cell and the 12 cell (e.g. hours of use, amps/volts, etc.)?
* I have an external usb hdd I want to boot from temporarily. Does the stock BIOS support this?
* Will my two internal mics support stereo recording or just monophonic?
* Why do I feel like a child on Christmas Eve waiting for the damned thing to arrive? -
also:
Does Lightscribe drive print on standard dvds or do you need to buy special dvds? -
You need special Lightscribe discs.

Is there a big performance difference between the T2250 and the T5200? Just wondering. Also, how long has it taken everyone to get their laptops? Mine says the estimated date is April 18th...but it says "Order in production" right now. Maybe it'll come sooner!
-
Does anyone know how i can find out my motherboard name/type and model number? thanks
-
Short of opening up the notebook, I've heard good things about this program:
http://www.astra32.com/
or freeware:
http://www.testmyhardware.com/ -
Just ordered a DV6000t yesterday. Unfortunately it says it isnt estimated to ship until April 25th and then it is 5-7 shipping days until I get it
over 3 weeks I got to wait. Does it always take this long? I used to work for Dell Home Sales so I know we were told we had to say the estimated shipping date was ON or BEFORE the date the computer would spit out to us based on product availability. But I am hoping some of you can tell me if you really had to wait that long or if they say that and it ships sooner. Im anxious.
Also I screwed up and clicked on the Core Duo instead of the Core 2 Duo. Called and they said it would take 5-7 days to receive a refund and then I would have to re-order it. So I just told her I would take the Core Duo instead of having to re-order the whole thing. I was thinking they could just change the order before it got to the factory for building but I guess not. I hope that it isnt a HUGE difference in power. I got 2GB of RAM and I read that Core DUO is more battery friendly to Notebooks than the Core 2 DUO because it takes less power consumption.
Anyway ... any word on average build times would be appreciated. I am really excited to get my new toy!!! JUST like X-Mas -
@A.
the differences between the 6-cell and 12-cell are: about a 80% battery life increase (my estimate) and a larger physical size. The electrical potential and current are the same; the change is only measurable in Watts/Hours, not milliamps, etc. because the current is the same... although I cannot vouch for the 6-cell, the 12-cell has 95 watt/hours. I assume the 6-cell is about half of that number. Rule of thumb- if you're going to use your notebook as a mobile device (not a desktop replacement) then get the 12 cell, as the 6-cell has notably bad life. I have also heard that the "high-capacity 6-cell" has no appreciable advantage to the standard 6-cell, so I wouldn't recommend it.
the BIOS supports boot from USB devices (usb floppy, flash drive, hdd, etc.) You'll have to modify the boot order, though.
The mic-in jack and built-in microphones are both stereo, and the sound card supports stereo microphone-in recording. Be advised that the built-in mics suck, and the sound card itself isn't great either (no ASIO, terrible buffer latency, etc.).
@rokshox
You can burn the recovery disks to dvd-r or dvd+r; mine are TY dvd-r's and I've recovered from them twice. The program also supports CD-r and DL dvd+r disks.
@keady2
Luckily, the socket is the same for core duo and core 2 duo processors; buy a core 2 duo later if you're looking for performance increases. -

For those of you who customized on HP.com, does it come with the micro-fiber towel and expresscard remote or what? Thanks

newbie question here does the
*FREE Upgrade from 60GB 5400 RPM to 80GB 5400 RPM
on HP dv6000t model have a 80GB 5400 SATA on it
or just 80GB 5400RPM. thanks -
Quick question about the Recovery DVD. Is this a good idea with Vista Home Premium? What exactly will this do for me? Will I be able to clean install with this disk or what? Does it come with a copy of Vista for clean install? Is a clean install worth all of the trouble? Thanks.

Hey guys i have a question. I updated my graphics driver a couple of days back to a driver from laptopvideo2go and my laptop went berserk.. I was playing HALO on LAN with a couple of guys at work. (bored) and it usually runs on full detail at 1280x800 with vsync on and its as decent as halo can get. After the update, my graphics card went mad and couldnt handle HALO. So i tried downgrading and it didnt. finally, i admitted defeat and reloaded the OS. Now ive installed the old drivers but earlier my windows experience subscore for my graphics card was 3.3 now it wont go over 3.2 do you think the card still isnt working fine? any suggestions, comments? Thanks
-
When I "upgraded" my NVIDIA driver to the one which HP directed me to on their site, my subscore went down from 3.3 to 3.2. Who knows?

how many USB ports does this laptop have? the specs page on their website says 2, but everyone else says its 3, it even shows show on this site's review page. So is there an option to make it 3 or the HP website made a mistake?
Thank you -

Hello guys,
Just bought a dv6282 a couple of days ago.
Seems like a sweet machine, although rather delicate and not too sturdy.
there is flex at the left upper corner and the joints seem loose there. Btw the first time i pressed the esc key, it stayed stuck! cute...
But the worrying issue for me is the heath produced by this machine: cores are cool enough according to Speedfan, but the HD (a Fujistu mhv something) is after some 30-45 min constantly at 47 48c, while doing nothing in particular.
It seems to hot to me, or is it normal and that's also the case with yours machines?
Fans are of course a lot if not constantly working, wich by the way does'nt disturb me, as this is a discrete sound.
Thank's for your attention,
Alain. -

mine does seem a little warm, but as far as durability, mine seems extremely sturdy!
On another note, can we upgrade our video cards? I'm pretty positive the 7400 is attached to the motherboard, but i read something about installing another card into the PCI-Express slot and running from that one. Don't really do much gaming, but some friends are wanting me to get counterstrike to play them online, will the 7400 be good enough? -
@longhorn
The 7400 will be plenty for Counter-Strike.
@jingy
3 Usb ports, two on the front left that are easily accessible and one at the back right. -

Maybe flex is'nt the right word; when i press on the upper left side, on the sort of grid covering the speakers, it cracks a little. Nothing terrible.
About the heat problem, even at 48 the left palm's rest is'nt hot really, just somehow warm. The base of the laptop is warmer though, it should be quite nice to have it on your lap during long winter nights... But these are the HD temperatures themselves that seem high.
Do you know what are yours? -
Mine make a little "creaky" sound when I press the speaker grill cover, but I had never thought to press that.
I really consider the build of the dv6000t series among the best of consumer notebooks.
Concerning the heat, our computers have the same processor and GPU, so heat production would be similar, I would think. Like I said, mine gets a little warm under the left palm rest and it may be just a tad warmer on the bottom of the computer, but nothing nearing uncomfortable at all. I haven't measured my hard drive temperature. Is there a free program that's Vista supported?
Bill -
Did any of you spring for the "free after mail in rebate" all-in-one printer? I did and just sent in the rebate today. It was incredible how much paper I had to gather and mail to them! All of it was data they already have too, seems a little silly.
Has anyone actually seen a check?

The akward thing for me is how to set it on my lap w/o blocking the heat fan..... lol. I noticed my fan was running CONSTANTLY, then i realized i was closing the damn vent with my thigh.
-
The fact is the HD rises to high temperatures only after an hour or so of use.
I have heard that the Fujitsu hard drives are problematic concerning the heath dissipation.
Two free HD temp monitors: Speedfan of course, and a sweet little prog called HDD thermometer: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/hddthermometer.html
both of them fully vista compatible. -
Thanks for the program names. HDD Thermometer gives a 45C reading for my Hitachi hard drive. It's been on for at least an hour and has 7 FireFox tabs open as well as Outlook Express and Nota Bene. The left palm rest is only a little warm.
Best,
Bill -
I guess after an hour i would be at 46-47, not much difference...
Well, maybe its not so terrible after all.
Best,
Alain -
i get around 46-47...isnt that considered normal?
-
-
I just tried using the code and it says it invalid? NB4455
thanks for the help
Frank -
Some HDDs do run hotter than others, usually some trend can be some across brands too. The difference, however, is negligible; you should never need to worry about one HDD being too hot if another works in the same PC configuration. Overheating is almost always caused by cooling issues in the case, not the HDD itself.

I ordered mine on April 13th. It came out to $860 after the $200 coupon, but a stupid tax to NY added $60 to the final price. But $920 was pretty good. I also just ordered 2x1GB Crucial DDR667 ram from newegg (with a $15 coupon) for $110 (cheaper than $125, and i'll be able to sell the one that comes with the laptop). I also ordered through fatwallet and a citi dividend card, so I should be able to get $40 and $9, respectively, back from each.
Only thing I wonder is whether it was a good idea to get such a fast cpu and be limited by a 5400 rpm hard drive. And also whether I might have wanted a 12 cell battery, though I really don't like the idea of it protruding.
It is estimated to be shipped on April 24th, so I guess I'll be thinking about this until I get it. Waiting is the hardest part.

I do large camera RAW file editing with PS CS2 and the CS3 Beta and it's great. The new NVIDIA driver from tweaksRus add a really nice improvement in that area.
Buyers guides recommend getting a better HDD after purchase because the after markets are better for the money.
If you do lots of on-battery usage you may miss the 12cell. Reports hare are the 6 cell is barley adequate.
But you got in at a pretty good rate, congrat's. If HP is late you may be in for a $50.00 coupon to spend on their site if you inquire about it the day it is supposed to ship. I got a nice new case with mine.
Drive it like a borrowed mule for the first 25 days! Don't forget to work the burner. -
Hi can you tell me how you used the coupon, when I enter code it say's invalid. Did you have any problems using it. -
HP ended the coupon early. It was supposed to be good through the 21st but they cut it off to the first 200 or 300 purchases unfortunately.
-
Ahh ok thanks, a dollar short and a day late the story of my life LOL -
I know how you feel. I went to order the day after it "expired". THey should actually put in print that they were doing it this way. Not fair to those of us who go by expiration date.
-
I hear that, my other story is like isn't fair
maybe they will offer it again -
Without a doubt they will offer it again. I am just not willing to wait around for that day. I would like a lappy sooner rather than later, and definitely need one by July. So it looks like I will just be using the student discount and living with that.
-
how much is student discount? do you have to be a full time student? -
If you're not in a terrible hurry it is better off to probably wait til June or so when HP's notebook line will get a refresh and the new computing technology will be implemented. There won't be vast improvements but might be worth the wait.
The student discount on the dv6000t is 6% off. You can sign up here, although once you sign up, you can not use $200 off coupons on that account, it is either student discount OR the $200 off, not both. So if you sign up and decide not to buy, you may need to make another account with a different e-mail address if you decide to wait and purchase when another $200 off comes around. Hope this helps. -
