I hope I am wrong.![]()
Anyways if anyone cares this is the dv6000t configuration that I ordered:
Genuine Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (Was free so what tha hell)
Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo processor T7200 (2.00 GHz)
15.4" WXGA BrightView Widescreen!
256MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7400
HP IMPRINT Finish + Microphone + Webcam
2.0GB DDR2 SDRAM (2x1024MB)
120 GB 5400 RPM SATA Hard Drive

Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network w/Bluetooth
TV Tuner w/remote control
6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
Microsoft(R) Works/Money
HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope
I highly suggest getting 2 gigs of ram with a Core 2 Duo, I have shopped around and found that for $200 you can't go wrong with this upgrade, and it really isn't that much cheaper anywhere else.
Good Luck everyone with yours, this truely is the most beautiful notebook I have owned.
-
-
why not the 7200rpm HDD vs. the 5400?
is there an HDMI slot in it? -
Airman--
I'm assuming you've received your dv6000 (you're speaking of it's beauty)
Question: when did you order it, and when did you get it? Oh, and while you're at it, what form of shipping did you get? -
Hello everyone, athreya there is no HDMI port on it I think only the dv9000t has one, and read back in the pages about the 7200 RPM HD. I ordered mine on August 30th, it took forever so I called them up, and they offered the 2 day shipping free. After I recieved it finally on the 16th. They ended up reducing the price as most of you know, so I called them back up again and hassled them, they refunded some of my money, not sure how much though because I haven't yet recieved this months bank statement.
Hopefully it was for the right amount. I must say though it was worth the wait because it's amazing! I will try and post some pics and give a brief review when I find the time to do so. College and work have been keeping me busy lately. Anyways take care everyone,
-Aaron -

Hi Friends
I ordered one a while back, and asked HP to put QDS screen in. They did not promise but they note my account. It was supposed to ship on 20th of September, but is shipped on 18th (19th China Standard Time) and now is in Anchorage, Alaska.
I bought it for $1527.00 and then the price cut happened two days ago, so I called and got $213.21 refunded. It came up to be $1313.00 which is not bad considering the features. I don’t know how long it would take from Alaska to California, but I am waiting. I will see the screen and the build quality and then decide on either keeping or returning.
Before buying it I considered Asus W3J and up coming V1J, but they either don’t have Meron yet or in the case of V1J, is a master piece but not available in States. I looked at Sony but build quality kept me away from it, even though I have a lot of respect for other Sony products.

FunkyMunky-When I talked with the sales rep about exchanging my notebook, I happened to mention that I was going to change out the hard drive to a 7200 rpm model once it arrived and I asked if the motherboard supported it and he said yes although he contradicted himself a bit when I asked why it wasn't an option when ordering it...now he did not say anything about it voiding the warranty. I think I will find that out for sure before doing it. If I can actually pin down a true answer from someone there in the tech dept, I will post their answer here. Your gonna love this laptop! The design and feel of this thing is just incredible. Let us know what you think.
-
ColonelMustard--
I would be interested in hearing your rep's reply myself. I straight out asked the sales rep I was dealing with, 'cause I can't afford to make such a costly error. She told me in no uncertain terms that it would void the warranty. Even if I had an authorized HP technician install it.
Now maybe somehow she doesn't know what she's talking about, but that's what she said. And my plans immediately changed upon hearing this. -
*sings*
Love is in the air -
called them in and saved $142, pretty good, should come here on the 22nd.
can anyone put up some pictures of their dv6000t's?? and a mini review would be nice too -
Hi everyone I received my dv6000t the 15th and I just called about getting a refund and they said that I coudn't get anything back, that "once it is purchaed its purchased, prices may vary, but we can't change the price". so what number did you call and what did you say?
-
nevermind I figured it out and I'm getting $141 back
-
Well fellas, I tried my very best to squeeze any and all information out of 4 different HP reps, all of which still said that the dv6000t "will not support a 7200 RPM HD".
Even more interesting is the fact that Compal CEO; Ray Chen announced during a Compal board meeting that HP among other PC companies will be offering free Windows Vista Upgrade Certificates/Coupons starting in Q4 of this year (October) "with the purchase of a Microsoft Windows Vista Capable, or Premium Ready PC. The PC companies have been keeping this very under wraps as to not effect sales in the current Q3. I did get a confirmation that this is true from a HP rep, however that is all she knew. She didn't know when it would start exactly. I spoke to 4-5 other reps and they were retarded and had no clue as to what Compal even was. Anyways, fellow dv6000t owners, when HP finally does decide to come out with this- don't forget to get yours!
Peace
-Aaron -
What!?
Do you think that those of us who just currently ordered will be able to get one of these Vista Upgrade coupons? -
I sure hope so, it might take alittle hasseling though when they finally come out.
-
I was wondering what you guys use to lean the outside of the labtop and the screen with?
-
well they are under no obligation to give us such. I cant believe I had such a brainfart and bought a dv2000t today when I had heard of the vista program before.
-
hey guys Im kind of ignorant when it comes to computer stuff. So i would apprciate your opinions. I m about to receive my dv6000t, but i did not order it with the 256MB NVIDIA graphics card...
is there anything i can do to upgrade it later? like buy it seperatly?
how much would that cost me? n where would i get it from?
thanks for any input -
Sadly, you can't upgrade the graphics card (if you could, laptop makers would sell a lot less laptops in a lot of cases....).
-
should i return my dv6000t with 1.83 core 2 t56000 for one with core 2 2.0 t7200 processor and lightscribe? i would save 50 bucks. or just get 150 bucks back and keep the one i have now?
-
Nikeshoes, if I were you I would return the laptop and upgrade the graphics card without a doubt. There can be no upgrading at all, once you get it, you are stuck with it, see if they will let you exchange it for another with the Go 7400, 256 MB graphics card.
Mega, yes I would also return yours, the Lightscribe is alright and not a requirement, however you would notice a big difference between the T5600, and the T7200 because if you choose to upgrade to the T7200 it will have 4 MB of L2 cache, as opposed to 2 MB L2 cache, aswell as being 17 MHZ faster. -
Does 2 MB Ram on it make a big difference? what are the best specs for spending under 1500 for a dv600t?
im prolly sending mine back and getting a cheaper one with better specs.
Can you use any dvd with the light scribe? or does it have to be a special dvd?
im confused. i dont know what i should do. -
I'm spamming this board to hell lol,
If you get the Core 2 Duo Processor with 4 MB L2 Cache (T7200-T7600), then yes 2 Gigs of ram will make a big difference on memory intensive applications. A Core 2 Duo Processor with 2 MB L2 Cache will still be faster with 2 Gigs of ram, but won't be able to process it as fast. Memory intensive applications such as; most games, Photoshop and espescially audio/video encoding, decoding, and editing.
As far as Lightscribe goes, I think most will be best off with the Dual Layer DVD Burner, to burn Lightscribe Discs you have to buy special Lightscribe CD/DVDs that have a special coating on the top to burn the image onto them. It is pretty cool, but not required for most people.
Anyways, keep the questions comming, it's better to ask them now, than wait and get stuck with something you don't need or want later.
Peace,
-Aaron -

I NEED HELP WITH THIS ONE.
should i get 2 gb ram, with the top processor, what is the most important thing? I could keep the notebook that i have now and get 150 bucks back. what about getting 20 gb more hard drive? i just want a pc that can multi task and do a lot of apps at the same time and be very fast. also, is the DVD Multi better than lightscribe because it has 8X DVD+/-R/RW instead of 8X DVD+/-RW. any suggestions? I need replys asap, i gotta do this in the next 10 hours!! -
I have returned to save the day!
well sort of, anyways the only difference between the DVD/CD Drive that you have and the Lightscribe drive is that the Lightscribe drive can burn images into the tops of special CD/DVD-R/Ws, thats it. If you want to multi-task I would say get the 2.0 GHZ Core 2 Duo for sure. 1 GB of ram should be fine, but if you have the extra cash to throw down I would get 2 GB, because if you ever want to upgrade down the road you will end up having to buy (2) 1 GB sticks of ram to get 2 Gigs, which is quite costly. As far as HD space goes, 80 Gigs should be plenty, though keep in mind that there is bloatware preinstalled. Hope that helps you out, and good luck.
-Aaron -
can i upgrade the 6000t with this memory? http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7644196&type=product&id=1134699426321&ref=06&loc=01
-
Um, I am actually wondering the same thing. I think it should work, but I have heard some aweful RAM upgrade posts on this fourm....
-
Yes that will work, however for 2- (1 GIG) sticks it will cost you $360.00 where as if you just get it from HP it will only be $200.00 and probably alittle faster.
-
fine fine since im bored ill give you one haha jk you've been of great help especially since im gettin money back from hp
-
They had a sell for the same ram....100 bucks a stick. 0.o
Oh well. -
the ram from best buy was $100 two days ago. i guess they changed the price. i bought mine though and it works
-
yea, I missed it.
-
Hey I was wondering if hp charges shipping for RMA.
-
-
hey guys thanks for answering my previous questions, I just recieved it today and I noticed a new issue, but i need to double check with you.
I noticed that the little sticker/tag says" centrino duo" with no "2" on it... and i know i ordered the 2 it even says so on the packing receipt.
it is supposed to be there right? -
ok i just checked on the general properties and it said Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU
is that right? -
yea it is. I think all of the notebooks say centrino duo although its acutally a core 2 duo on the inside. Kinda sucks that we didn't get that cool sticker though...
-
urboianthony, would you recommend the upgrade to 2 GB of ram?
I have yet to recieve my laptop, but we have similar specs. -
Hey, im thinking of getting a DV6000 myself, this threads gotten rather long to sit through and look for all the info and suggestions.
What im needing a laptop for is mainly college. I think I can probably get the software (Xp pro, and office 2003) cheap through the school, and install those separately, or so I've been told by another student. Any truth to this? Im sure it varies from school to school.
I saw a discussion about which screen manufacturer to ask for. From what I read Phillips has had good feedback, so I should just mention this to the rep when I call?
Whats the difference between the three graphics card options? Im a WoW player, but likely wont use the laptop for that, especially if its going to cost more.
On the site, I can get a price a little under 900$ for what seems an OK setup. Thats mainly by skimping on the software packages (going to inquire at the school today about that), and not going with more then the C2D T2050 (1.60 GHz) processor. Thats also not taking into account a student discount, which for some reason the site just wont show even though I've done all the login stuff for it.
Has a free upgrade to 1gb RAM, and the Brightview display, which seems good. What do you guys think? Any other advice? -
hey all,
My new dv6000t is making a clicking noise from the harddrive area periodically. Is this normal? When I am playing World of Warcraft I hear it and the game hitches for just a moment, is this normal, hard drive clicking/tapping noise? -
is ur power cable flimsy when connect to the computer? let me be more specific... im talking about the part the power cable connect with the computer (blue ring lights up when connected). it's flimsy and it feels like its not securely in (it does click in) is it like that for all of u?
-
The hard drive clicking noice if it is somewhat loud or clanking then I would say to return it, it may be defective. Under normal operation they usually make a series of barely audible clicks but clanks or loud clicking is not normal.
My AC adapter when plugged into the notebook has very little play, if yours has a lot of play while it's locked in it should be fine, but down the road you could face problems with the mount breaking off the motherboard. If that were to happen your looking at a pain in the as task to soldier a new mount on or you will have to replace the motherboard. It's best to catch these things while you can still exchange your notebook. -
Hi
I have been looking for a new laptop for quite some time and while at Costco this evening they had the following laptop on Display. Is this a good deal?
Model: HPdv6174CL
Core2 duo T5500 1.66 speed
2gb of DDR 2 Ram
120 GB HD
Nividia GO7400 Video Card 256
The turebright screen
Duel Layer DVD/CDR
Web camera
Price: $1149.99
This is all that I wrote down.
Is this a good deal and is this processor speed all that is needed?
How good is HP support? Is has to be better than Dells.
I have really been considering the Asus W7J but the price of this laptop has given me second thoughts.
Your comments and suggestions are welcomed.
MGC -
yah thats a pretty good deal. What do you plan on using your laptop for?
I thought HP's support was very good and professional. -
Worked a little bit on my configuration, and noticed a couple things I dont care for. Like being forced to get the better Geforce card because I chose a C2D Processor...Why? Its an extra 70$. Then I had to get some wireless upgrade as well, Also I had to pay more for some special finish and a microphone. I didnt want a mic, or special finish, but it made me choose those options due to the graphics card. Nice way of making a 879$ deal go to 987$.
Anyways, heres the package I've chosen:
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) Duo processor T2050 (1.60 GHz)
Display FREE Upgrade to 15.4" WXGA BrightView Widescreen!!
Graphics Card 256MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7400
Personalization HP IMPRINT Finish + Microphone
Memory FREE Upgrade to 1.0GB DDR2 SDRAM (2x512MB)!!
Hard Drive FREE Upgrade from 60 GB 5400 RPM to 80 GB 5400 RPM
Primary CD/DVD Drive DVD/CD-RW Combo Drive
Networking Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection
TV & Entertainment Experience No TV Tuner w/remote control
Primary Battery Extra 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
I guess not bad for the price, especially with the free upgrades, most laptops with 1gb of RAM are over 1k. Im choosing 2 6-cell batteries unless someone can convince me a single 12-cell is better.
987$ before tax and student discount. -
So, has anyone gotten ballsy and ripped out their OEM 5,400 RPM Hard Drive to replace it with a 7,200 RPM model yet?
-
-
In an interesting turn of events, I spoke to an HP sales rep about the usage of a 7200 RPM hard drive in my dv6000t series notebook.
He said that you could use one, however because of the extra heat/energy usage that it could fry the motherboard. So I wouldn't recommend that anyone try this unless they are crazy like me.
I will just probably get a 160 GB hard drive for it, extra space vs extra speed, I'm going to stay of the safe side this time anyways. If anyone does end up adding one please let me know how it goes -
Anyone planning to do a review on the dv6000t?
-
i will do one eventually... busy with school work now days
