are your fans completely off then they come on for 10 seconds every minute? if so then i think the problem is with your fans. Or do you mean the fans go onto max every minute for 10 seconds?

Received my dv6000t and everything is great! No troublesome noises. Vista is easy to use and programs install easily. I'm very pleased at how easy it is to get things going. I'm a novice and this sure is much easier to set up compared to my old desktop...that's progress!

Thanks to everyone who posted information to direct me to my decision.

Please do the group a favor and post your configuration and BIOS version?
Also, if you would be so kind as to sit in a very quiet room and run a few programs, ala multitask and wirless? And then report again on the noise issue?

    Thanks

I'm not seeing anyone's specifications here with the 200Gb SATA hdd. Has anyone else ordered this drive? I've recorded many hours of TV on mine, so it's worked out quite well for me.

As I mentioned several pages back, I ordered an Orange County Choppers laptop skin from skinit.com. Installed it today. Looks pretty good.

I posted a little description of my experience and pictures here, if you want to take a look:

In a totally quiet room I frequently here a very soft fan/blower purr, about 20-30% of the loudness of light typing on the keys; often, the machine will go totally quiet and sometimes, when there are several programs opening and closing at the same time the machine revs up for 5-10 seconds to a volume 4-5 times the volume of typing keys. The fan sounds are the only sounds other than typing keys and the "clicking" of the computer working (I don't know technically if this is the sound of a drive, or what.) The clicking sound is also louder than the "normal" level of fan noise. None of the fan noise is bothersome to me or even usually noticeable; the occasional reving-up is certainly noticeable, but not bothersome.
Hope I've given you some sense of it.
I don't know my BIOS version or where to find it.
    Thanks again for your help.

the processor is different, and the 6375 comes with a tv card.
    6275 gets 2mb L2 cache/6375 gets 4mb L2 cache.
You can see further on J@R music world. I don't remember all of the specifics, but I know the price difference was about 100 to 150 dollars.
I game alot and rip dvd's, and stuff so i wanted the processor, plus i watch tv a lot to..

Only the processor is different. The dv6275us also comes with a TV tuner card.

BTW, the $1099.99 price at J and R for a refurbished one looks pretty attractive: http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=4170212

I have been working with my new dv6000t and found it to be a pretty nice machine! I have the cpu and ram gagues up on the sidebar. So far I have noticed about 52% ram usage max. I had numerous windows up and playing a video. I sure am glad I opted for the 2GB of ram or I have a feeling that I would have maxed out with 1GB.

I HIGHLY recommend anybody buying a new laptop to opt for the 2GB of ram as Vista is a memory hog! With 2GB ram (idle) my system uses 37%

    Peace!

dv6000t or as HP update referred to it.... dv6200cto...

I have a 500Gb external Maxtor too (in case I fill up the 200Gb internal).

I use Windows Media Center to record and watch and have it hooked up to cable. I get plenty of channels and WMP works surprisingly well.

I use the HP expresscard tuner and I watch the shows on the notebook screen. I love having a portable TIVO. I've got about thirty hours of programming stockpiled at the moment for whenever I get around to watching it. I use it more as a DVR than as a computer these days.

oh ok .. so I take it you can pick up a good amount of channels... Do u use ur antenna inside or outside. When inside, I don't get much channels..I get more channels when the antenna is outside.

I have mine hooked up to cable.

The tuner does come with a small antenna if I wanted to use it outside. There's not much reception in my area anyway, so I don't bother with that.

Is it just me or is ripping cd's EXTREMELY SLOW. Do I just have a faulty optic drive because it takes forever just to rip a cd. I'm guessing like a good 2:30 per song. My 4 year old desktop is faster. Anyone else experiencing the same thing? Is it sometihng worth sending it back over?

While reading through this thread, I noticed some of you have the matte version of the screen. How did you get that option as when I build a system online, there isnt an option? Did you have to call and order directly to get it?

    Thanks

Another question I have, is Vista Home Premium worth the upgrade over Basic? I honestly could care less about Vista and quite honestly, will probably reload it with XP pro once I get it.

What does Premium have that Basic doesnt? For $35 in getting it over Basic, could I put that $35 elswhere, like for the 12cell battery or 2gb ram for example.

I am working on a budget and trying to decide if the which options are truly necessary and which can be upgraded at a later time when my budget has changed? I dont want to spend for frivolous addons and upgrades if I dont have to, But I don want to get the must haves.

    Thanks for any input.

PS, the current configuration I am looking at getting:

    # – Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit)
    # – Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo T5300(1.73GHz/2MB L2Cache)
    # – 15.4" WXGA BrightView Widescreen (1280x800)
    # – 256MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7400
    # – HP Imprint Finish + Microphone
    # – FREE Upgrade from 512MB to 1GB DDR2 (2x512MB)!!
    # – 80GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
    # – FREE Upgrade: 8X DVD+/-R/RW w/Double Layer Support
    # – Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection
    # – No TV Tuner w/remote control
    # – 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
    # – Microsoft(R) Works 8.0

    = $853 before taxes.

    Thanks for the link.

I guess I was asking more from a users standpoint. If people have used both versions and could comment on "ya x feature is definitely worth it" or "no x feature is just user preference".

I am excited. My first non-handmedown laptop!

So after I placed my order, I noticed that they changed their special offers, which included a free upgrade to 120gb from 80gb. So I called and asked if that could be applied to my order. The lady was very nice and said no, they cant modify existing orders, but she offered me a $50 rebate.

I took the rebate since I need the PC asap.
